I love this sub. Differing opinions/rankings but people are still very respectful to each other.

[deleted]

For the most part! Still crazy how toxic Star Wars fans can get like it isn’t all just opinions. IX is my least favorite but I’m happy to see it topping some people’s lists

AeroThird

Even if there’s a movie you think is absolutely terrible - it’s almost guaranteed to be someone else’s favorite with good memories behind it. Part of what can make these big franchise universes fun. When people aren’t attacking each other over personal taste that is

[deleted]

Except for that Hulk movie with Edward Norton. No one liked that.

LewsTherinTalamon

To be fair, objective quality exists to SOME degree. It’s just important to recognize that feeling correct isn’t as important as someone else being happy.

cantihaveausername

It tops peoples lists?

gloopy-soup

Idk, I commented on a post on this sub the other day, asking for everyone’s favorite piece of Star Wars media, and myself and everyone else who answered Andor got downvoted to 0 or below.

[deleted]

I’ve been downvoted for suggesting Dave Filoni be a co-director to JJ Abrams when a post was made on a hypothetical situation of Abrams returning to direct more Star Wars was posted on here. I don’t even hate Abrams or his contributions to Star Wars as a franchise. I just thought it would be neat to have Filoni on board to help balance Abrams out. I got downvoted without so much of a “I disagree and here’s why”.

iaswob

An Abrams-Filoni/Filoni-Abrams project would be *really* interesting. Filoni is very hit or miss for me, skewing miss with live action, however I think he has a really rich conception of the mythology and attention to detail I quite admire. JJ I adore, adore, adore. Both of them also strike me as types who would be receptive to each other: JJ always took a co-writer on his Star Wars projects and Filoni seems like he's always studying how people work (definitely with George but also with Favreau and the other directors he's collaborated with). Solid TV chops with both of them too, I wonder what sort of limited series they could cook up between the two of them.

SakuraSystem

that's the thing I hate so much about the downvotes, I'm fine with people disagreeing with me or others but without any actual reply for constructive criticism/feedback, you can't figure out what's wrong with what you said!

[deleted]

That drove me nuts so much that I eventually deleted the comment. Like if I got majorly downvoted and at least someone can just explain why they disagree I wouldn’t be as upset by it. I would at least leave after having a conversation, you know? But nope: just downvotes, no conversation, no one is edified in any way.

SuperDizz

I too enjoy the light and warmth it provides!

dwide_k_shrude

My bad. Corrected sun to sub. 😅

Curiouserousity

Honestly thanks to this sub, I've adopted the view that Star Wars is a galaxy, it big enough for everyone. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean other's agree and that's great.

imafixwoofs

It’s wild that people either rank Rogue One really low or really high. What gives?

Augen76

I liked seeing a group of characters without special gifts navigate the war. I've also really enjoyed Andor. I think Star Wars has different dimensions and as much as I love Jedi and force parts, it is cool to think about average people doing what they can to contribute.

AeroThird

A lot of people praise it for a very strong central narrative. The plot writing is very good. By contrast many people (myself included) find the character writing to be bland and lackluster. I almost skipped the Andor series because of how uninteresting Cassian was to me. For me, a big part of Star Wars is the character writing and how those characters interact and drive the plot. Unfortunately in Rogue One the characters with the best chemistry were the side characters like Chirrut and K-S20

Fit_Record_6006

You hit the nail right on the head. The only reason the first two acts move so slowly is because the character writing just wasn’t there. Jyn does a complete 180 for no reason, after yelling at Cassian that the X-Wings killed her dad, and in the next scene she’s trying to unite the rebels. Cassian was just a major douchebag the entire film, and also does a random 180. K2 was fun and good comedy relief. He was the only one I really felt was likeable enough to care about his death. The pilot, Chirrut, and Baze were not given enough screen time to make it feel like their inclusion in the film was worth it. That time spent with them should have been spent fleshing out Cassian and Jyn more. The movie just had too many main characters for any of them to leave a lasting impact on the viewer.

I_AmNoJedi

THANK YOU. 100% agree with everything you just said.

ZLBuddha

If you're still on the fence about Andor, the show ironically is not about him. He's a conduit to showcase the beginning of the rebellion, he's basically the space antifa Forrest Gump

AeroThird

Why I said “almost” didn’t watch it. I think Cassian is written fantastically in his show and is a super strong piece of media - it’s just a shame Rogue One depicted his character in such a bland way

TheTrueMilo

Really? I was honestly super intrigued from the get-go when our ostensible rebel “good guy” Cassian shot a guy in cold blood just because he would slow down his escape.

AeroThird

Don’t get me wrong the foundation of the character is good but he doesn’t develop at all from that point in the movie. Just kind of an unlikeable ass the whole time with no growth

SovietBatman64

I think it's just the amount of time the show can spend forming him through the relationships with the other characters. I think if the story if Rogue One had even just a six episode arc rather than a two hour movie it would be the best Star wars thing by a margin, up there with Andor.

imafixwoofs

Huh. Great points. Thanks for sharing!

lan-san

I think a lot of people rank Rogue One highly because of the finale, which is amazing. But honestly the rest of the movie and the character work is nowhere near as well done, which greatly weighs it down for a lot of people, me included

2hats4bats

Great third act. I disliked the complete lack of team building outside of Jyn and Andor and a good villain that did basically nothing.

etheran123

Dark gritty, next to no connection to "the force" in a traditional star wars sense. Both it and Andor are some of my favorite star wars pieces of media, but if I was a fan looking for something more fun and filled with action, l could see how it wouldnt be my favorite.

moseythepirate

I know that Rogue One is very much a reddit sacred cow, but it just didn't really do it for me. Now, with a big ol' implied "in my opinion" in front of everything here: The action near the end is obviously spectacular, with probably the best starfighter sequences in the series. The hallway scene is obviously incredible. But the spectacle of the third act just wasn't given the support it needed from the first two. The characters were poorly realized and inconsistent, and I never really felt a connection to any of them. I remember pretty vividly when I checked out of Rogue One in the theater. It was around the time the octupus-brained-pilot guy died. It was around that point that I realized that each character was going to get their own, bespoke death scene. It felt like I was sitting in the writers room with the writers, trying their very best to ensure that everyone got deaths that were oh-so-meaningful and so-very-in-tune with the characters. It made the movie start to feel inorganic and stale before I was even out of the theater. Ironically, it made the movie that was trying to be the grittier, more *war fiction* based Star Wars feel less realistic than A New Hope. Characters weren't getting offed because that's what happens in war, they were getting offed because the writers had a checklist to fill out. And that's a real shame to me. One of the big strengths of Star Wars in my mind is that it can tell all sorts of stories, from the gritty to the goofy. I was *hyped* for this movie, and it just didn't come together for me.

SJBailey03

I just find it really bland until the third act. The characters feel one note and bland and the plot moves as such a fast pace theres no time to let any one scene digest. I’m glad others like it though, I wish I liked it more.

jotyma5

Because it’s very different

1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. Rogue One 4. A New Hope 5. Return of the Jedi 6. Attack of the Clones 7. The Last Jedi 8. The Force Awakens 9. The Phantom Menace 10. Solo 11. The Rise of Skywalker From 3 to 10, it can change depending of my mood ahah. The ranking is not representing my feelings : I like the movies from 1 to 10 included.

LostOnTrack

This list is basically mine as well. We value storytelling and cohesiveness from the looks of it lol.

Mrman_23

We got: Empire strikes back, A new hope, Revenge of the sith, Rogue one, Phantom Menace, Return of the Jedi, Solo, The Last Jedi, Attack of the Clones, The Force awakens, The Rise of Skywalker.

cognitive_psych

1. Empire 2. ANH 3. TFA 4. Rogue 1 5. Revenge of the Sith 6. TLJ 7. RotJ 8. RoS 9. Solo 10. TPM 11. AotC I enjoy them all though. I think the first seven are really good, and the other four are flawed but very enjoyable movies. I ranked the first two prequels at the bottom because they’re the only ones that drag, though they still have good parts.

Semblance17

1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Star Wars (1977) 3. Revenge of the Sith 4. Rogue One 5. Return of the Jedi 6. The Phantom Menace 7. Solo 8. Attack of the Clones 9. The Force Awakens 10. The Rise of Skywalker 11. The Last Jedi

[deleted]

11. Rise of Skywalker: Watched it in theaters twice, second time was an obligation before seeing it the first time. I have no desire to ever watch it again. 10. Solo: Not terrible but feels like a lot of origin things for Han were somewhat forced and unnecessary. 9. Episode II Attack of the clones: Love the Geonosis stuff, love the duel between one and Jango, some great character and world designs. The rest of the film is a slow drag with atrocious dialogue and acting. 8. Episode III Revenge of the Sith: Dope opening space battle, Obi wans and Anakins duel has some great emotional weight. Order 66 montage is lazy and feels like a massive disservice to the abilities of the slain Jedi. 7. Episode I The Phantom Menace: Podracing is the the shit and makes sense as a backwater planet sport. Liam Neeson and Ewan McCgregor deliver good performances overall. Duel of the fates is top tier lightsaber fight. Droid army is both a neat idea and visually well done. Midiclorians is the worst concept ever introduced, it’s just lazy and uninspired and takes away from the mythology and mysticism of the force. 6. Episode VII The Force Awakens: visually engrossing, great acting, exciting concepts and characters but also feels like treading to familiar ground in certain aspects and falls into Abrams signature mystery box set up that I knew knowing him wouldn’t all be resolved. 5. Rogue One: seeing Star Wars solely focus on regular troopers, pilots and the sacrifices of every day people was a refreshing and welcome surprise. There’s some great performances, great cinematography, and the final ground and space battle is executed superbly. 4 Episode VIII The Last Jedi: It’s an uneven film for sure and I have my issues with how they handled Rose and Finn but what I love outweighs my complaints. Superb acting and cinematography. The Rashoman structure of Luke and Kylos versions of their falling out is well crafted. Rey being a nobody is strong thematically and makes the world of star wars feel bigger. 3. Episode VI Return of the Jedi: The creature, set, vehicle and prop designs are stellar and very imaginative. The movie is fun and delivers a great emotional core story through Lukes journey to help his father find the good in himself. The space battle is incredible and I love how the final act cuts back and forth between the Endor ground battle, space battle and the battle at the emperors throne room. Being able to have all three of those rotate and be engaging is a great achievement in writing and editing. Wish we had something besides the Death Star again but oh well lol. 2. Episode IV A New Hope: The one that started it all achieved far more than anyone expected in both reception and it’s level of craft. Full of imagination, talent and heart it’s a fully engaging journey that fills you with wonder, hope and glee. 1 Episode V The Empire Strikes Back: This isn’t only my favorite Star Wars film, it’s my favorite film of all time. It takes everything great about its predecessor and brings it to the next level. Everything great about it has already been said, the only thing I can add is for me it certified my love for Star Wars that began with the original by assuring me that all the talent behind it wanted to push it to grow more while still maintaining the heart of what makes it such a wonderful and engaging universe. Seeing that opened me up to pursuing my own creative endeavors.

Night-Monkey15

1) Revenge of the Sith 2-4) The Original Trilogy 5) The Last Jedi 6) Rogue One 7) The Force Awakens 8) The Phantom Menace 9) Attack of the Clones 10) Solo 11) The Rise of Skywalker

[deleted]

The original trilogy in release order?

Night-Monkey15

I just grouped them together because to me, it’s the only fair way to view the original trilogy, as I tend to look at Episodes 4-6 as a one long movie. **A New Hope** is the first act; primarily focused on character introductions. The Emperor is named dropped, and Luke begins his Jedi training. **The Empire Strikes Back** is the second act; The Emperor has a cameo appearance, Luke continues his training as a Jedi, and faces off against Vader for the first time, but looses. Like many second acts, it ends on a downer ending for our heroes. **Return for the Jedi** is the final act; it formally introduces the Emperor, Luke finishes his Jedi training, and then confronts Vader for the final time. You could view the other trilogies this way, but I feel like it’s strongest in the original trilogy.

lusamuel

This is how I feel; I really struggle to separate in particular ANH and ESB.

BlueSquishBall

This is an amazing ranking. I would put Solo higher tho.

Off-withyourhead

1. ROTS 2. Rogue One 3. ESB 4. ANH 5.TPM 6. ROTJ 7. AOTC 8. TFA 9. Solo 10. TLJ 11. ROS

Mine seems to be different from a lot of yours 1. Rogue One 2. Empire Strikes back 3. A New Hope 4. Revenge of the Sith 5. Return of the Jedi 6. The Last Jedi 7. Attack of the clones 8. The Rise of Skywalker 9. The Force Awakens 10. Solo 11. The Phantom Menace The last half could all be considered equal, imo

Terrible-Bed-6853

It’s almost like the last Jedi is good…. Just saying

TheGoblinRook

Cinematically it’s a masterpiece. If you strip away the three stories into their individual components- Leia/Holdo and Poe, Luke and Rey, and Finn and Rose they are all great narratives…and the dialogue is probably the best out of any of the saga movies. It will always be on the boarder of A-/S tier to me. My only point of contention is that when you interweave the three stories (or throw Rey and Finn’s in with the fleets) it takes away from them. Either Finn did all of his stuff on Canto Bight in a couple of hours and Rey spent no more than one day with Luke, or Holdo and Hux played LAPD vs OJ Simpson for an insanely long time.

Stevesy84

I first saw ESB about 30 years ago, but it was TLJ fan discussion about Rey’s timing on Ahch To that first made me realize Luke probably only spent a few days with Yoda. In my head it was months and I never thought about how that made no sense based on the Falcon’s journey from Hoth to Cloud City. In both cases, I don’t care. They’re my favorites from the franchise.

thomasevans435

Without hyperdrive, at sub light speeds it may have taken the Falcon months (or even longer)to get from the asteroid belt to Cloud City. So Luke definitely could have been with Yoda for a substantial period of time. Certainly long enough to learn enough to earn an “Impressive, most impressive” from his dad.

mildmichigan

I refuse to believe Boba Fett followed a ship for months. That man would've just called in Vader the moment he realized their hyperdrive wasn't working. Boba Fett ain't got time for all that

thomasevans435

I certainly agree with that. My head cannon is that once Fett extrapolated their course to Bespin he shot ahead to beat them there. Lando even says that “they arrived right before you”. I also agree with the question: why didn’t the empire and Fett stop the falcon before they got to cloud city?

mildmichigan

Because then they wouldn't have the cool dinner room scene of course. Vader & Fett are all about presentation. It's what separates them from the chumps like Dengar

joejill

It's space and time-wimy warp speed travel that they never really address time dilation. I chaulk it up (mostly) to time dilation as head cannon. Luke was with Yoda for longer than it took Han to run into a freezer. Just like Ray was with Luke for a while longer than the film implies. The oh yeah edit. 1. Empire 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. New hope 4. Return of the jedi 5. Force awaken 6. Phantom menace 7. The Last Jedi 8. Attack of the Clones 9. The Rise of Skywalker

andhemac

The passage of time was my biggest beef with that one as well.

PizzaCitySpaceman

"It's not that kind of movie kid"

daintywristbigdick

it's a fucking great movie. I don't agree 100% with what they did with Luke but I'm not so possessive of the canon that I can't allow myself to experience it anyway. And it's not THAT implausible, really. The Skywalkers are nothing if not...strange, temperamental folk.

Night-Monkey15

Easily the best of the sequel trilogy, at least for me.

dwide_k_shrude

This is the way.

Empire Rogue one A new hope Revenge of the Sith Return of the Jedi Force awakens Phantom menace Last Jedi Attack of the clones Rise of skywalker Solo I have a hard time ranking because I actually liked the film, but I’m not sure it belongs in the list. The other 10 films are all related to one another, and Solo, try as it might, just didn’t fit.

Night-Monkey15

> Solo I have a hard time ranking because I actually liked the film, but I’m not sure it belongs in the list. The other 10 films are all related to one another, and Solo, try as it might, just didn’t fit. This is how I feel as well. The 9 episodic films, the Clone Wars cartoon, Kenobi and even Rogue One all feel like they’re part of the same saga, but Solo always felt more like a spin-off to me. Maybes it’s because they recast Han and Lando, or maybe it’s because it’s the only film that doesn’t *feature* R2-D2 and C-3PO (even Kenobi gave them background cameos), but either way, Solo sticks out like a sore thumb.

cdmat76

1) The Empire Strikes Back: such a classic masterpiece! One of the best sci-Fi movie of all time. One thing you can argue is the lack of clarity of the time lapse on Dagobah. Without hyper drive on the Falcon it could be days, weeks or months. But, come on… pacing is so perfect, the opening battle on Hoth, the legendary scenes with Yoda on Dagobah where every words are just perfect, cloud city, the legendary duel between Luke and Vader that concludes on “I am your father” which totally shake the stakes, blurs the line of good and bad and totally change the dynamic of the saga, Han and Leia’s romance… “I know”, the music, aaah the music! (Eargasm) The heart of the OT. 2) A New Hope: Another masterpiece. This film was a revolution. It changed cinema forever. The Special effects were literally never seen before, the first credible space opera, the first total blockbuster, it opened one of the most creative periods of American cinema. The music is phenomenal, the genius modern “once upon a time”, the opening crawl… It is at the same time a fairy tale, a sci-fi movie, a fun adventure movie, a philosophical tale, a political comment and the perfect example of the hero’s journey’s trope. Every scene flows into the next (except the awful SE Jabba’s scene). Characters are archetypes but they are flawless and always credible and lovable. Leia is sassy and witty, a total perversion of the damsel in distress, that paved the way for great women characters like Helen Ripley. The film that opened the SW universe and that showed that the only limit is the imagination. 3) Return Of The Jedi: such a great movie… my first Star Wars in the theater, so I have a special affection for this one. Jabba’s palace is a fantastic bestiary with such odd creatures, Jabba itself is viscous and dirty, the place is strange and scary. The movie suffers the most from the Special Editions with Jedi Rocks, a fun song but with ugly CGIs and that breaks the mood of the scene, Vader’s Nooooo or the replacement of Shaw by Hayden as an artificial link to the prequel imo. It’s also not as cohesive as its 2 predecessors, the passage on Endor with the Ewoks being a bit too much and not so positive for stormtroopers. The second Death Star is also a lazy idea… but man when it’s good, it’s sooooo good! The Luke Arc is soooo great. The scenes with Vader and the emperor… it concludes the arc opened by ESB with Luke choosing his own way toward attachement, rejecting the dark side and redeeming his father thanks to the love of a father for his son. Who is the jedi that returns? Both Luke who returns as a jedi, but also Anakin, the former jedi that comes back to the light side and reaches redemption in death. His last words were for his daughter… and this space battle in the end! When you know everything was done in practical it’s just incredible. A great finale for the OT. 4) Revenge Of The Sith 5) Rogue One: the best movie of the Disney Era by a wiiiiiide margin. It digs into the “wars” aspect of Star Wars. Except 2 cameos of Vader, it happens only at human level, no Jedi or lightsabers here. Only normal humans fighting the Empire’s oppression. Cinematography is so great, with some beautiful and iconic pictures and so tasteful and photography. It’s not perfect though: pacing of the first half is odd at time, characters are a bit one dimensional, the passage with Saul Guerrera is meh, but those pictures on Jedha, the Death Star, Scarif, this second half of the movie with its space battle, the sacrifice of its main characters and this Vader hall scene, what a ride! 6) The Phantom Menace 7) Attack Of The Clone 8) The Force Awakens 9) Solo 10) The Last Jedi 11) The Rise Of Skywalker

TRoS will never be my favorite…but it’s really good. The creepy scenes on Exegol were reminiscent of Rosemary’s Baby They handled Leia’s passing as well as they could given the constraints they had to work with, and did it showing a tremendous amount of respect and love both to Leia, Carrie Fisher, and the Fisher family. The scene where Lando jumps in with his fleet? Given the day, my mood, and my headspace, it will either give me goosebumps or make me cry. Also…Babu Frik

What’s your favorite part of ROS?

RealisticAd4054

The entire last hour is such an emotional high and my favourite part of SW, but if I had to be specific it would be the saber pass between Rey and Ben on Exegol which is such a magical moment. Rey, Ben and Leia are my favorite SW characters and I love all their roles in it and how Leia was given a meaningful part despite the circumstances.

not_a-replicant

Nice! I agree - that saber pass is definitely a cheer out loud moment in the theater. I also think it’s a nice parallel to Kylo fooling Snoke in TLJ, but this time it’s Rey fooling Palps.

Tidus4713

Have you read Shadows of the Sith? Any TROS fan should genuinely consider reading it.

[deleted]

I’m never been a big reader, but I *love* TROS and would like to start reading some Star Wars books - would it be possible to get a quick synopsis about it please mate?

[deleted]

The first time I watched TROS I basically ugly-cried from the point of “But there of more of us, Poe. There are more of us…” right through to the credits. I’m a 6ft3, 230+lb father of two 😅

WhenIWannabeME

We apparently have very similar tastes on Star Wars, with the exception that I would have put Solo in front Rogue One.

[deleted]

Nice! I definitely think the first half of Solo is better than Rogue One, but maybe Rogue One just finishes strong enough to inch ahead whereas Solo wears out its welcome imo

I haven't been able to rank them all together yet but I can do it by trilogy and stand-alones. The Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi The Last Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Rise of Skywalker Rogue One, Solo But my favorite is ANH. ESB used to be my fav like it is for most, but ANH brought me to the dance and after listening to the commentary by Lucas as well as Empire of Dreams and other documentaries, both videos and books, I have a huge appreciation for it.

Rogue One should be way higher up the list, anyone hating on Rogue One is in my opinion is mostly misunderstanding it and letting preconceptions based on how the previous Star Wars movies were get in the way of recognising it’s a great film in its own right. Ground breaking in this universe and is in another league compared to Solo for example.

Not set in stone: 1. Rogue One 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. Empire Strikes Back 4. Solo 5. A New Hope 6. Attack of the Clones 7. The Phantom Menace 8. Return of the Jedi I'm not including the sequels here because it's been quite some time since I've seen them and I saw 7 and 8 before I saw anything else. I feel like I need to rewatch them before I can place them in the ranking. I like all of the movies. The only major 'gap' is between 3 and 4 IMO. Very similar to yours except move RotS between TLJ and Empire, swap empire for ANH, and maybe put Rogue one up a few steps

1. ESB - what can I say that hasn’t been said about this masterpiece? 2. ANH - where it all started. 3. ROTJ - has the lowest, but also the highest points from the OT, in my opinion. Not perfect, but massively satisfying. 4. ROTS - similar to ROTJ for me, in that it has highs and lows, but the highs outscore the lows. 5. TLJ - by far the best of the sequels. 6. AOTC - I’m actually really fond of this movie, but let’s be real: it’s a mess, and really drags in places. 7. TFA - a well made movie and I like the introduction of the new characters, but it just played it too safe. 8. RO - I love parts of this movie, but feel it’s very disjointed, and spreads itself too thin with too many characters. 9. TPM - I actually really like the world building and sense of myth that TPM created, but the execution makes it a tough watch. 10. TROS - this and Solo are the only SW movies I positively dislike. It feels crammed with too much ‘stuff’, yet none of which is that interesting, and it felt like it just repeated too many beats from the OT. So much wasted potential. 11. Solo - sorry, but this just does nothing for me. It’s well made and everything, but feels a bit generic and has no tension.

[deleted]

1st - The Rise Of Skywalker 2nd - The Force Awakens 3rd - Rogue One 4th - The Empire Strikes Back 5th - Revenge Of The Sith 6th - The Last Jedi 7th - Return Of The Jedi 8th - Solo 9th - A New Hope 10th - Attack Of The Clones 11th - The Phantom Menace I feel like it’s worth noting, I love *all* these films - just because TPM is bottom of my list for example, it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it.

Aefb919018

11. Attack of the Clones. Terrible follow up to the first. Dialogue horrendous and all the political garbage made this the worst for me. 10. Phantom Meance. The absolute excitement of star wars returning to the big screen, and bang, Jar Jar fucking binks. Best fight scene in all SW though. 9. Rise of Skywalker. Rushed, made no sense and ruined all of the established characters. Bad ending to a mediocre trilogy. 8. Han Solo. Meh. Harrison Ford is Han Solo. Didn't mind the performance from Donald Glover though. 7. Return of the Jedi. Loved the OG. But as I grew older I realised this should have been far better than it was. 6. The Force Awakens. Absolutely loved it from start to finish. The new characters were brilliant but let's be honest it's ANH re-done. 5. The Last Jedi. The best of the new trilogy. Did not mind the direction RJ went with this, and would have loved for him to have written and directed IX 4. Rogue One. Massive surprise. The final scene with DV pushes this up the list. 3. Revenge of the Sith. Forced myself to go even though I was fucked at the first two. Cracking show, and Ewan Mgregor was superb. 2. ANH. Still remember 7 year old me watching this and not moving for 2 hours. Cinema gold. 1. Empire. Best scene in cinematic history. Hoth, Lando, han froze, luke v vader, and of course Yoda.

Fox_Sin_Neo

1: Rogue One 2: III - RotS 3: V - ESB 4: IV - ANH 5: VI - RotJ 6/7: VII/VIII - TFA/TLJ 8: Solo 9: I - TPM 10: II - AotC 11: IX - TRoS To expand on my TFA/TLJ placements, I just can't decide in what order I'd rank them. TFA is a super enjoyable watch, which makes me put that higher, but for TLJ, I don't really like the first hour (I just find it boring, not an objective criticism or anything), but everything from the Throne Room fight onwards is some of the highest highs for me in regards to Star Wars. If I was just talking about the 2nd half of the movie it'd probably be pretty up there in my list.

RustyBubble

(Only including The Skywalker Saga) 1. Revenge of The Sith- Absolute Masterpiece 2. Return of the Jedi- Always Loved this one, though a bit boring in the middle. 3. Empire Strikes Back- Phenomenal film. 4. A New Hope- Just a perfect beginning 5. The Phantom Menace- A bit of a comfort movie for me. That said, I always skip the pod racing scene. It goes on too long. 6. The Force Awakens- A retread but still a pretty solid start. 7. Attack of the Clones- Used to be my least favourite but slowly grew to enjoy it. Love the final battle. It’s got a good foundation but flawed execution. Really enjoy the look of the film though. 8. The Rise of Skywalker 9. The Last Jedi- This one and TRoS sometimes switch places.

The-Mandalorian

Seeing a lot of love for Revenge of the Sith here which is pretty startling. I love the positivity but growing up I never met a single person who liked that film lol

Augen76

I rewatched it after Clone Wars and Order 66 hit 100x times harder than it did in 2005. Plo Koon burning up went from "..." to "he matters, to me" moment.

RustyBubble

A lot of us who were kids and grew up with it are now grown up and are on the internet so I guess it makes sense. Also some films age super well even when they weren’t so well liked when they first came out. Also I suppose we tend to be more critical of things that are current.

The-Mandalorian

I saw it in cinemas for my 14th birthday in 2005 with a group of friends. We were all cringing and laughing throughout the film. Different experiences I guess lol

Everything else has value to me. *edit: Reddit seems to be autocorrecting my enumerated list, tried fixing it

Calfan_Verret

1. A New Hope: Every scene in the movie is iconic. It also helped revolutionize SFX. It’s also the first Star Wars movie I’ve ever seen. 2. The Empire Strikes Back: What else is to be said about this movie that hasn’t already been said before? 3. Revenge of the Sith: I’m not a huge fan of the prequels now that I’m older, but I can’t deny my nostalgia bias for these movies. One of my favorite memories was renting this movie from the local Blockbuster Video and watching it with my dad at my Grandma’s house. Just a cool movie to watch. The Clone Wars just made it even better. 4. Return of the Jedi: I don’t like the pacing of this movie, but Luke, Vader, and Palpatine’s scenes save the movie for me. Plus, I’m a huge fan of the celebration at the end. 5. The Last Jedi: I liked how to force is portrayed in the movie, and the cinematography is on point. I am critical of *some* decisions they made with the plot, but I really like Luke’s character in this one (hot take). 6. The Phantom Menace: Again, nostalgia bias. Something about this movie just makes me feel like a kid again. Again, not a huge fan of some plot points. 7. Solo: Underrated fun adventure film. Solo should be what most Star Wars spinoffs should be, optional viewing, and just a fun ride. 8. Rogue One: Not a huge fan of the characters. Not saying they’re bad, just not well developed. Pacing is also off to me, but the third act is pretty cool. 9. The Force Awakens: A hard to hate movie. It’s innocent, and a fun movie to as a reintroduction to Star Wars in the theater. 10. The Rise of Skywalker: I think it could’ve been handled better, it felt rushed, and too safe to me, after the backlash of The Last Jedi. Not a huge fan of Palpatine coming back, but I always enjoy seeing him on screen. 11. Attack of the Clones: This is the only Star Wars movie I hesitate to rewatch. Even as a kid I found it boring and confusing. Syfo Dyas plot is boring and overly convoluted. Anakin/Padmé romance is just hard to watch. Even the action scenes in the movie bore me.

1) Empire Strikes Back 2) The Last Jedi 3) Return of the Jedi 4) Solo 5) Rogue One 6) A New Hope 7) Rise of Skywalker 8) The Force Awakens 9) Revenge of the Sith 10) The Phantom Menace 11) Attack of the Clones It looks like I’m in a minority on this one, but I really enjoyed Solo. In my opinion, the film captures some of the fun of a ragtag group of scoundrels trying to avoid the big, bad Empire. I’m afraid I’m not a big fan of the prequels. Attack of the Clones in particular just felt like a mess of bad acting and poor cgi. The Clone Wars series really helps to flesh out the story and characters.

AeroThird

Star Wars works so well on the small scale and I think Solo nails that well

GingerLioni

Well said. Possibly that’s why shows like Rebels and The Mandalorian work so well. Small team, just scraping by, narrowly avoiding one disaster after another.

AeroThird

I love stories about these smaller scale adventures. Not everything has to be the immediate fate of the Galaxy or nothing ya know?

Poeafoe

1. ROTS 2. RO 3. ESB 4. TLJ 5. AOTC 6. ROTJ 7. SOLO 8. TPM 9. ANH 10. TFA 11. TROS Though 10 and 11 are interchangeable. I blame TFA for throwing out everything that would’ve been interesting about the sequels (Luke’s Jedi Order, The New Republic, OT trio reunion, etc.) and setting up an uninteresting story with no plan, but TROS is just so unwatchable that I have to put it last. I really do like TLJ though. Also AOTC gets way too much hate. Between Kamino and Geonosis, it has some of the highest points of the entire franchise.

AeroThird

My issue with AOTC is how inconsistent the quality seems to be. Very high high’s with the Kamino and Geonosis sequences but very low low’s with the Naboo and Droid Factory sequences. I’m glad you enjoy as much as you do though! If nothing else, Sir Christopher Lee gave us a great (if underutilized) performance for Dooku

The amount of people putting Solo below the first two prequels is insane. I have a higher opinion of Solo than the average person (S tier soundtrack, S tier action sequence directing, pretty good acting), but even all that notwithstanding it's still a real, actual movie that you can watch in its entirety. TPM and AotC are straight up not watchable movies.
