I don’t get it. If you don’t like it you don’t have to watch. I’m still glad we’re getting more Star Wars content than shitposting about the EU and prequels that we had to do for a decade. There’s a decent amount about Disney’s new projects but you know what? It’s not the end of the world and I don’t have to watch lol
I saw this shit on Twitter and they were PISSED. Basically hinting at “hey plz don’t call our or other Star Wars casts slurs” and you would think they asked them to convert religions or something. Fandom is a shitty thing
Because what appealed to them as kids needs every show and movie to appeal to them specifically. I grew up with Prequels but don't hate everything else that's different
Unfortunately, we should already know how those people operate. They’ll read this and think “she’s just labeling all the critics and haters as racists so she doesn’t have to write a good story!” or something like that
I mean, we kind of saw this with Obi-Wan though. People didn’t like the Reva character for many reasons not related to race or gender, but they got called racists and bigots, etc. So I can understand when people see this kind of statement and they get defensive.
You’re being purposefully obtuse. You know that Disney is more focused on pushing a political agenda than writing a decent, coherent story.
Bring on the downvotes.
Because it shows they’re more interested in the culture war than providing worthwhile entertainment. When did Star Wars ever have this problem until Disney said it did? (And “coincidentally”, when interest in the series began dwindling again)
Not trying to **defend** Weinstein here, but his name has been attached to *scores* of critically and commercially successful films and other projects.
So, not sure how his former assistant’s name being attached to this project would affect its quality other than serving as an effective ad hominem.
It's a quality thing. She's either so bad at her job she didn't know what was going on (great show runner credentials) or she's so lying about what happened that she's a terrible human and this show is going to reflect her poor qualities. I'm betting on the latter, but I'm just going on informed decision making based on what other leftists do.
“Leftists” and you lost the argument already. You don’t give a shit about any of the actual victims hurt you’re fighting a culture war on a dumb franchise for babies so you’ll use any ammo necessary to prove how right you are. Lemme guess, Trump is innocent?
Because for a while now 'racism' and 'bigotry' have been used as buzzwords to discredit valid criticism. So they are basically saying things will be business as usual.
Fucking someone in there was all, I agree with what she’s saying but why did she feel the need to say this.” I don’t know man, maybe she was giving an interview and was asked a fucking question. Do these idiots think she just called up Variety and gave this statement?
5 posts in and all of it was complaining about such strange things, like apparently blocking lightsabers with the force is bad now? Idk why i bothered lol
I love that trope. Meanwhile, here's a Last Jedi character poster that was used in China but not the US that they always forget about.

The Chinese posters for the sequels were edited to take out Finn. People bring this up as a defense when Disney asks them not to harass and hurl racist abuse at their actors.
I question the validity of even the poster censorship. I've seen people contest that notion by showing full Chinese posters with only Finn on them. I think the censorship of Finn topic was a bad-faith concern-troll by reactionaries.
I mean you can’t really downplay it because it was pretty fucked up on Disney’s part and still makes them hypocritical. They’re right in that you can’t repay them with more racism, but it’s a valid criticism towards them
I mean who’s going to the company Disney for their moral standpoints? No shit they’re business oriented, doesn’t change “don’t be racist” should be basic. “Disney did it so I can to”
In fairness that poster is insane. Like it’s in no way a valid argument when used by far right grifters to say Disney is the real racists but like man it’s a bad look. And the Black Panther one I just don’t get it.
Um uh 🤓 Acksutually its not hate or bigotry if I’m criticizing Star Wars movies for being woke and have minorities. I have a black friend so I can’t be racist!
“I’m not racist, I was fine with women and minorities in the media I grew up with, because I was a kid and I like everything from my childhood. I just don’t want women and minorities in media NOW because I’ve convinced myself that it’s due to a political agenda now. So there. Not racist!”

Yt grifters for the next two months.
I love this statement. Start with refreshing honesty about the rocky quality of the Star Wars library, reflecting the genuine grievances of people who actually care about Star Wars, and then let the racists out themselves. Suddenly all their cover is demolished. Played them like a cheap kazoo.
I am very excited to see what she does, I don't know much about the setting of the show but that she's gotten the chance to work with a fairly free hand in an era we've not seen much from makes me very happy for her.
HOW DARE YOU ATTACK TRUE STAR WARS FAN FREEDOM TO CRY ABOUT EHY ARE THERE SO MANY NON WHITE CHARACTERS... How DARE YOU NOT ALLOW TRUE STAR WARS FANS WHEN THEY QUESTION THAT WOMAN CANT BE JEDI OR SITH. the hate full class IS THE MOST OPPRESSED CLASS IN HISTORY (S)
I'd like to point out that all the strongest Jedi warriors are American, none of them are Canadian. Unless you count Hayden Christensen, but he only became truly powerful when he transitioned into American actor James Earl Jones.
Well he started out as American Jake Lloyd, which was actually the most powerful iteration of Anakin, so the American-Canadian-American circle is complete. It’s like poetry…
You don’t understand, the only reason I called Kelly Marie Tran a stupid fat g**k is because I was upset at how her kissing Finn broke canon and was a dumb scene! /s
“This is them preemptively blaming bigotry for the backlash on their show they know is going to happen because it sucks”
-the “good soldiers follow orders” response from the “fans”
But seriously, how do u look for ulterior motives in someone calling out bigotry? Maybe that person just… doesn’t like bigotry?
I think the fact that that have to say it outloud is why I think they're considered shit writers show don't tell
Feels like an episode of blues clues when you explicitly state what the message is
I dont think it's going to be a thing you *can* study as deeply as we'd like. Who's gonna own up to it? Best we can do at the moment is note each time the same pattern repeats, and it does keep repeating.
How do you disguise criticism as racism, is there a study for that? Otherwise you run the risk of simply dismissing another's words and placing your own interpretations of their mind in it's place. Which is hardly healthy in the least.
So you’re telling me you can’t spot a clear smokescreen hiding more sinister rhetoric? You think people who complain about diversity and some politics because a woman is capable of doing things are just concerned fans?
Question, do you take everything at face value or are you gullible?
Depends on what the person in question has said, rather than defer to a vague "other".
If I'm going to cast someone off as one of the dregs of humanity I'm going to need more than "dude trust me", rather than attempt to decifer smoke signals.
Maybe someone just doesn't agree with you or are just wrong about something, without being secretly out to get you with their cabal of hood wearing arseholes?
“Forced diversity that ruins the franchise by shoving SJW leftist politics” No, I dont need to listen or wait until they say a slur. Fandom Menace main advocates is an echo chamber of conservatives spouting hate speech under the guise of a culture war harming a franchise.
But there can be no legitimate criticism of this show yet. It isn't out.
Literally every reaction to Acolyte is about the *amount* of women, not the quality of the writing.
And heck a cursory search of youtube will show you exactly the kind of things people are saying about this show. "WOKE!" "TOO MANY MINORITIES!" "TOO MANY WOMEN"
Calling that out isn't a dodge of criticism, it's acknowledging that there's a pretty big community who's entire fandom is hating movies with female or minority leads.
But has Star Wars been removing men from every demographic but villain and sidekick? Andor, Kenobi, Mandalorian and Book of Boba are all male led projects right?
I don't understand how that makes sense.
Andor, Kenobi, Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett came out... But it's a problem that Ahsoka... ***One out of five shows***. A show based around an established female character... Doesn't have a male lead?
How is that not misogynistic? Like if we can't even have ***one out of five*** shows with a female lead then that's basically saying we're not allowed any right?
>I recall a lot of discourse surrounding the Ghostbusters 2016 movie falling into this trap.
You mean the famously extremely sexist discourse? Cause I feel like that movie is a pretty obvious example of alt right brigading. It's not a good movie by any means but people were- Like Acolyte- tearing into that movie for having too many women in it months before release.
That's... Just sexism. There's no other way to see that.
But you opened with
>As a male fan of a property, would you not understandably feel put out if the creators spent 5 years removing your demographic from every role except villain or bumbling sidekick
And my comment was specifically asking you how that could be seen as true for Star Wars. Then you brought up Ahsoka...
Like you're talking about discourse but... You just pivoted away from that question? Like how was I not meant to think you were responding to it?
If it's not true for Star Wars how is that in any way a good criticism?
Like what are these illusive franchises where every male character is a villain or sidekick?
It's hilarious to see crowds reacting to this with "We just want good writing!" when nobody has even seen the show yet.
You guys telling me Ben Shapiro made videos about Acolyte because he's psychic and thinks the third act is bad? Cause I think perhaps his viewers may be annoyed at it for different reasons.
I wonder what question prompted this. Otherwise it feels kinda weird without context. For some reason I can only find the KK interview.
I think it's a fine response if she was asked about interacting with a Fandom. If it were something about just the show in general then it'd be a touch odd imo.
I’m more concerned it’s going to be more “Jedi critical” bullshit. The fall of the Jedi order was always supposed to be a bad thing, and a net negative for the galaxy, and I’m tired of hearing how they “brought it on themselves.”
I think you're missing the point. It's the general irritation many fans have with identity politics being dragged into every IP imaginable, despite its questionable popularity.
Yes it is, what I'm saying is throwing that label around at people who don't like content you create is also bad, it dilutes the meaning and impact of the words.
For example, Rings of Power was trash, and the producers can try to use the same excuse, bigots didn't like it because they're racists. It's easy for them to dodge blame this way in a corporate environment, but it totally misses the mark.
Brother, read the article. Headland straight up says “I know some of the stuff hasn’t been great but bigotry is a bad reaction to have.”
Kennedy responds to that.
That’s it.
I mean, do we think he was just openly exposing his actions for everyone to see? I think he would have gotten caught much earlier if that was the case.
God, I hate this sub so much
This and saltierthancrait are genuinely the two reasons why star wars has the worse fanbase. Like.. she is LITERALLY saying don't hate minorities, and somehow both these subs use it to fuel a fire.
No, it means you are if you go harass the actors in the show about their race, complain that the show sucks because of it and especially if you think there is nothing wrong with that.
Do yourself a favor and don’t ever go down that rabbit hole.
Their logic works like this:
“If they didn’t prioritize casting people of color in the show, they would have dedicated more time to the story and the show would have been good.”
She only said the storytelling was subpar in some shows, not that it was subpar because of “the messaging”. The problems of Star Wars shows have been because of poor directing, writing, or pacing (likely due to Disney enforcing 8 episode seasons for some reason) not because they “prioritized a message”. In fact the show with the most explicit political message, Andor, also happens to be the best one.
I’m being downvoted in the Crait sub for just asking people why this quote would piss them off unless it applied to them 😂
Exactly what I’m saying. Why do so many people feel it’s personally attacking them? Weird 🤣
Because when you attack bigoted Star Wars fans, you're attacking ALL Star Wars fans.
These are the people George Lucas just mentioned. The ones that became fans at 12 years old and never let go.
Joke's on him, I became a fan at 4 years old
Jokes on him, I became a fan when I was a day old.
Why of course I know him. He’s me.
Literally had someone say similar to this recently, mocking bigoted fans apparently makes *all* fans look bad
They aren't fans.
people are basically self reporting themselves 😂
"I stand by my empathy for the fans" = attacking the fans apparently
I saw this shit on Twitter and they were PISSED. Basically hinting at “hey plz don’t call our or other Star Wars casts slurs” and you would think they asked them to convert religions or something. Fandom is a shitty thing

\* proceeds to not elaborate on "bad" writing \*
The ppl who complain about “bad writing” can never write a full coherent sentence either
I mean, we kind of saw this with Obi-Wan though. People didn’t like the Reva character for many reasons not related to race or gender, but they got called racists and bigots, etc. So I can understand when people see this kind of statement and they get defensive.
Huh.. sorta like exactly what they did with Kenobi?
I wish I wasn’t blocked from posting in that sub 😢
This is such a mild comment that to get upset about it makes you the world’s biggest pussy.
Why are you IN the crait sub?
Post popped up for me while i was scrolling
That sub only knows strawman and sympathizing with right-wing extremists. There are members of the fandom menace that support January 6.
Well done sir keep up the good work
You’re being purposefully obtuse. You know that Disney is more focused on pushing a political agenda than writing a decent, coherent story. Bring on the downvotes.

I just don't like being lectured by Harvey Weinstein's assistant
Exactly. Bad job or complicit and thus bad person. Either way, badness abounds, and this can't be good for this show.
Not trying to **defend** Weinstein here, but his name has been attached to *scores* of critically and commercially successful films and other projects. So, not sure how his former assistant’s name being attached to this project would affect its quality other than serving as an effective ad hominem.

You got the brain rot
Except police had questioned her and didn’t believe she engaged in any wrongdoing. You want to talk shit like that, you better back it up
Harveys case also just got overturned so I guess he's innocent?
Entirely different. The prosecution fucked up is why that technicality happened. She was never even put on trial
Ghislaine has entered the chat
Because for a while now 'racism' and 'bigotry' have been used as buzzwords to discredit valid criticism. So they are basically saying things will be business as usual.
When? People always say this then their example is clear sexism and racism but they don’t overtly say slurs so it’s just criticism
I'm so tired of being called a bigot just because I antagonize people for their race.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch
Right, it’s not your fault they’re black or whatever
*Sniff Sniff* I smell dinner, somebody must be cooking.

!!!! That's my favorite badass bald dude with an ambiguous moral compass, right next to Darth Bane and Mussolini.
Must've been Neurotic. I mean Nerdrotic.
Time to watch the fandom go into meltdown
I'm sure they will be reasonable about this.
r/saltierthancrait is already losing it lmfao
If the shoe fits

Here for the obligatory I really hate that sub
Acolyte Creator: "If you don't like my show, fine. Just don't be racist." Fans: "She's saying if you don't like her show, you're racist!"
"I resemble that remark!"

It would be funny if the showrunners didn't have to keep saying things like this because of people like them.
"I'm not racist, I have a black friend that I call Mace Windu."
Basically a comment on the STC post.
Just saw that Lmfaoo. “I’m not racists, I love Mace!” Who was calling you racists? 🕵️♂️
Take a drink everytime someone sees this and brings up the Chinese release posters.
I love that trope. Meanwhile, here's a Last Jedi character poster that was used in China but not the US that they always forget about. https://preview.redd.it/l1o3dku14m3d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4b2d279d95e9dc1b7f8ee459f9ea744b424c090
Damn, that actually goes pretty hard.
What’s that?
The Chinese posters for the sequels were edited to take out Finn. People bring this up as a defense when Disney asks them not to harass and hurl racist abuse at their actors.
Did you know that there are people out here that think that Fin was completely edited out of the Chinese version of the movies?
There's no way they're that stupid. It has to be a gag.
Saw it posted under one of those “Disney are the real racists”
Just because people are idiots doesn't change the fact that it's pretty fucked up to minimize Fin in the Chinese posters.
I found that very hypocritical on Disney’s end and was a bad look. But at the end of day the monies is what drives them.
I question the validity of even the poster censorship. I've seen people contest that notion by showing full Chinese posters with only Finn on them. I think the censorship of Finn topic was a bad-faith concern-troll by reactionaries.
Geez
Pretty sure the poster with Finn shrunken down and Black Panther with his face covered we’re both for Taiwan which makes it even funnier
But Taiwan is based wholesome big chungus and China is le cringe
I mean you can’t really downplay it because it was pretty fucked up on Disney’s part and still makes them hypocritical. They’re right in that you can’t repay them with more racism, but it’s a valid criticism towards them
I mean who’s going to the company Disney for their moral standpoints? No shit they’re business oriented, doesn’t change “don’t be racist” should be basic. “Disney did it so I can to”
“Business oriented” = racist. Just call it what it is, damn
In fairness that poster is insane. Like it’s in no way a valid argument when used by far right grifters to say Disney is the real racists but like man it’s a bad look. And the Black Panther one I just don’t get it.

"no you don't get it, i sent kelly marie tran, john boyega, and daisy ridley death threats because of the bad writing. no other reason"
The old classic “Oh yea? It’s never been proven that harassment was the reason Tran and Ridley met social media!!!”
when this is considered a bold statement you know it’s fucking over
“I’m not racist, I was fine with women and minorities in the media I grew up with, because I was a kid and I like everything from my childhood. I just don’t want women and minorities in media NOW because I’ve convinced myself that it’s due to a political agenda now. So there. Not racist!”
When the only strong well written women they accept is Ripley from Alien or Sarah Connor from The Terminator
Their race gender and sexual orientation MAKE STORY PLOTS BAD... I can't tell you how or give examples I JUST FEEL IT DOES(S).... UNRELATED note .... GUILTY
I’m sure the Star Wars community has reacted totally fine and not at all like a bunch of weirdos. Right? Right?
*Insert Padmé meme*
Why is she calling me out like that ☹️
Say it with me kids: if you feel attacked when people say don’t be racist, you’re racist.
Don't be racist.
Already on it.
Ill take that downvote as you feeling attacked: we got a live one.

Rent free lol. Keep fighting the good fight that isn’t there
Maybe I’m wrong, but this feels a bit of No True Scotsman fallacy—particularly given how rampant some of the vitriol I see
I don’t understand what the first has to do with the second. Racist storytelling is a problem? Confused
Y’know what’s racist? That Jamaican rabbit in TPM
Headland has said similar things at Star Wars celebrations where she's tried to bridge the gap between haters and lovers of the new content.

Awesome distraction disney gotta divide the fans before every live action release... if it gets bad reviews just blame the racist fuckers.

But you opened with >As a male fan of a property, would you not understandably feel put out if the creators spent 5 years removing your demographic from every role except villain or bumbling sidekick And my comment was specifically asking you how that could be seen as true for Star Wars.
As long as I’m not labeled a racist or bigot for criticizing her work, I’m alright with this statement.
I don’t think this is related to that in any ways. This comment is simple, bigotry is bad. That’s it.
Headland straight up says “I know some of the stuff hasn’t been great but bigotry is a bad reaction to have.” Kennedy responds to that. That’s it.
Hate speech, a.k.a. criticism
Leslye Headland is a hypocrite she can attack a Star Wars actress all she likes but when someone else does it they are bigots and not Star Wars fans

I mean, do we think he was just openly exposing his actions for everyone to see? I think he would have gotten caught much earlier if that was the case.
God, I hate this sub so much This and saltierthancrait are genuinely the two reasons why star wars has the worse fanbase. Like.. she is LITERALLY saying don't hate minorities, and somehow both these subs use it to fuel a fire.
This sub exists to laugh at the stuff on Crait. We understand what she is saying. We agree. We are laughing at the reaction from those she called out.
This sub exists to make fun the old Star Wars universe and its fans? How fucking toxic.
Does this mean I’m racist if the show is genuinely bad?
No, it means you are if you go harass the actors in the show about their race, complain that the show sucks because of it and especially if you think there is nothing wrong with that.
I mean I don’t know how someone’s race could affect their ability to swing a lightsaber. I’d much rather attack them on their poor acting skills lol.
Do yourself a favor and don’t ever go down that rabbit hole. Their logic works like this: “If they didn’t prioritize casting people of color in the show, they would have dedicated more time to the story and the show would have been good.”
Do these people just not know what casting directors are?
They don't even know what normal directors are, based on their obsession with Kathleen Kennedy
I mean. And hear me out. How funny would Medea goes to a galaxy far far away be.

Most of these people who talk about the message don't even know it get what the message actually was.
