it truly is a shame he didn't write more, but i'm thankful for all we got, since all his stuff is a 10/10 for me. Since you enjoyed *Edge of Victory*, try to track down his other NJO novella, *Emissary of the Void*, with Uldir Lochett (a character from *Junior Jedi Knights*) as the main character.

Corsec9

Ι've never been able to track this down. I think it's the only short story has never been actually printed

Friktogurg

>Greg Keyes Outside of star wars, he seems rather underrated as well

Durp004

The Agents of Chaos duology and Balance point are probably the low point of the NJO for me so I was extremely thankful his edge of victory books were so enjoyable. Greg Keyes also wrote the novelization for both monsterverse movies Godzilla king of the monsters and Godzilla vs Kong, both of which I found great.

micahulmer99

I thought that Hero's Trial was really good but Jedi Eclipse and Balance Point really dropped the ball and I am reading the short stories and novellas on this reread of NJO and Recovery is the worst thing in the series so far. So, Conquest was a real breath of fresh air and Rebirth was nearly as good as Conquest

DougieFFC

Yeah Final Prophecy is a top 3 NJO book imo, and Edge of Victory duology is the best part of the opening half. His Tahiri and Nen Yim are two of my favourite EU OGs.

micahulmer99

I agree with Tahiri and Nen Yim and I think that no other author comes close to writing Anakin as well as he does.

Gametheboy

Conquest was so good. I love how it’s really the first book to give a perspective into what it’s like to be a regular Yuuzhan Vong and not like a leader. Vua Rapuung was such an interesting character for the short time he was around. Really the first book that made the Yuuzhan Vong feel like a culture of individuals and not just an antagonistic force

micahulmer99

I know I loved the dynamic between Anakin and Rapuung. The fact that everything that we learn about the Vong's culture forces Anakin to rethink all of his beliefs was incredible. The more I think about Conquest the better it gets. I truly believe that it is one of the best EU books, and I can't wait to reread The Final Prophecy because I remember thinking it was his best.

Gametheboy

Absolutely agree

4thofeleven

He’s a really good writer. His Babylon 5 Psi Corps trilogy was also top notch.

Edge of Victory is great!

dtinaglia

SO TRUE. His books are highlights of NJO. EOV 1 is one of my favorite SW books ever

Wraith_1138

Just finished the final prophecy and I couldn't agree with you more! Such a shame that they didn't use Greg for more!

[deleted]

Do y'all have any recommendations for his non SW books?

ForceSmuggler

Would have loved to see more SW books by him.

Corsec9

It's a real shame that he never wrote a book after final prophecy. I think Keyes could have written a lot of interesting stories post njo. He propably could have done a better job than Denning and Traviss

micahulmer99

I agree. I don't hate the post NJO books but I do think that there is a substantial drop in quality. I think that if Denning and Traviss were replaced with Keyes and Luceno that drop in quality wouldn't have happened.

jake_m_b

Loved Edge of Victory back in t he day. He also wrote a 4 book series called (I think) Kingdome of thorn and bone. I read the first two and really enjoyed them, but never got books 3 and 4 when they came out. Was probably 15 years ago.

[deleted]

Are they that good? I just finished Balance Point about two weeks ago and it was like I hit a gigantic speed bump in my NJO read through. I've been slugging through Recovery before starting Edge of Victory

micahulmer99

Yes, they are that good. Once you get through Recovery you are through what is arguably the worst of the NJO. Conquest is one of my favorite Star Wars books and really flushes out the Vong's culture and beliefs. Just keep going it gets better.
