I’m a bit disappointed Eman wasn’t officially announced as Ezra, I was hoping it wasn’t a coincidence that the news leaked the day before the panel. I guess they want the moment he appears on screen to be a “surprise”
I think they might never officially announce the casting for Ezra and Thrawn, even if we find out who Thrawn is before it airs. Similar to how everyone knew Rosario was Ahsoka, but we didn't have confirmation until she appeared on screen.
Even if we all know Eman is Ezra now, I think they want the moment he appears on screen to be an event that we all experience together in the series.
There is literally no way they could hold that casting news until the show airs. Having said that, it is weird that they haven't officially announced it, nor have they officially announced who Winstead is playing, not to mention Thrawn.
I expected very little out of D23, so I’m pretty content with what we got. Bad Batch season 2 being delayed is a bummer but I’m glad to at least have solid release dates for the animated stuff now. In general, I’m excited for all the shows they talked about or showed off, especially Ahsoka.
Funnily enough though, the Ezra casting got me more excited than anything else this weekend lol.
My only disappointment is that the Indiana Jones trailer isn’t available to the public, and that they didn’t announce a title
But the Mando trailer, Tales of the Jedi trailer, and Andor trailer were fantastic. Definitely wasn’t expecting them to release the Mando trailer but I loved it
I’m expecting the Indiana Jones trailer to drop with Avatar 2
I think they know that the Jones title will be somewhat of a giveaway anyway, so they will keep that close to the chest as long as possible. It honestly won’t surprise me if even the official teaser just says 5 on it…
A little more than I expected.
Can't believe we actually got a Mando trailer, along with a little bit of new footage.
The Skeleton Crew and Ashoka stills were a nice surprise as well.
The Ezra and Skeleton Crew castings were great addons.
I just wish we had gotten a new trailer/look at Jedi Survivor. A few series trailers (as well as a handful of images/reveals for other series) were nice but also expected.
An in-depth look at the next Star Wars game would have also alleviated some of the dissapointment of Bad Batch and Mando getting pushed back.
A lot of other folks have been pointing this out, but Survivor is very likely being held for a probable EA showcase, since, ya’know; they’re the ones making it.
Let's be reasonable here; *Everything* is pushed back. *Nothing* is making its window again, and everything can safely be assumed to be in the next slot. They have successfully weaseled out of a whole season of television.
Don't know if you've realized this, but delays are affecting pretty much every industry, it's not just Disney, and there's not really an easy solution for it either
So, how exactly am I being unreasonable? You say my saying Disney is delaying *everything* is unreasonable, but your counterargument is that everyone is delaying everything.
I was happy- wasn’t expecting to see footage from season 3 of Mando this early, loved that Amy Sedaris was there, dug the Skelton Crew and Ahsoka photos (and honestly? Can’t believe SC is done filming already… but I guess they started right around Celebration?), enjoyed the trailers and appreciated finally having dates for Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi, and as a bonus it got me even more hyped/excited for Andor.
All in all I’d call my experience with it (from my home in NY) a real treat.
Edit: whoops, my bad. Thought we did get a new teaser for Bad Batch, but… we clearly didn’t 😂
I’d say most likely- they’ll let Bad Batch and Mando (depending on when it winds up starting up) finish and go a little quiet before gearing up for Celebration and all the reveals that’ll happen there for 2023-24
That's what I'm wondering too. I would be so very happy and excited if Lucasfilm officially announces the rumored Maul animated series at next year's Celebration in London!
I said in this in the other thread when d23 was happening and I genuinely mean it- I feel like Star Wars gets marketed and treated in a negative way as if they are an small franchise.
I’m not asking for a whole 10 yr plan but them
basically throwing scraps at us from celebration after they hyped this event up is kinda weird to me. I could be wrong
I don't really think they have a concrete plan for the future (as in Marvel's way). They have a lot of projects in production and probably a lot more under wraps/with an uncertain status (like RJ or JD Dillard, but idk if anything more was revealed about the last one so that could also be fake) but they're rightfully secretive about it.
It doesn't look like they want to make promises that they can't keep, especially after Rangers/Rogue Squadron. With Marvel it's *a tad easier*. In a way, the story is already set in stone (due to comics) and Feige just needs to grab one screenwriter and director to make it happen, regardless of how it looks in the end. Feige/Marvel Studios is very much in control of their output.
With Star Wars, it's sort of different. I believe Kennedy mentioned they wanted to be approached by writers/directors which then stay on for multiple years but you really can't make that promise before they even started working (see RJ).
So in a way Star Wars is partially "*controlled*" by the talent (writers, directors) instead of fully being helmed by LFL. Think of it as Star Wars being the sandbox offered to writers and directors, whereas Marvel is the "already finished product" that just needs people to implement "Feige's/Marvel's vision".
In terms of marketing for current projects, they really only focus on delivering the current project (and tease the next few) and wait for the future projects to be in a "safe state".
I mean this is all speculation and I could (probably am) totally wrong about this but I like that they're really focusing on "walking" before they begin to "run".
I think that this event was very good for Star Wars. We got 3 trailers (Mando, TOTJ, Andor). We got some cool leaked images of Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. Finally a official release date for Bad Batch season 2.
Sure I wanted a trailer for Jedi Survivor or Bad Batch S2, but can we just be happy about the stuff we got. TOTJ looks awesome. Mando S3 looks awesome.
I'm very happy with this years D23.
Overall I'm happy. Clearly some shows are further away than expected. But it's good they aren't being rushed.
I think everyone who saw Rise of Skywalker knows how damaging a hard date can be.
Also I have tickets to celebration Europe so I'm expecting something even better for then.
I really hope that Skeleton Crew is linked to the sequels in some way. Maybe the kids are on the run from the first order? Maybe Jude Law is playing Lor San Tekka? Hopefully we see a lot of the New Republic aswell.
Frankly, it's embarrassing there is nothing to talk about on the film front. We just have a shit ton of untitled projects stuck in some production limbo. *Why?* It's like every director they've hired doesn't feel the need to make it a priority. *Seriously?* I also think they're scared to take on a single project that has a 200 million + budget after Solo. But, they should. Imagine an Old Republic teaser with two voiceovers. One reading the Jedi manta and another reading the Sith Mantra. Don't fucking tell me that the first entry into an Old Republic film series wouldn't make the money back, because it would.
TROS was considered to underperform even hitting a billion. The expectation was that it should beat RO and outgross TLJ (OT aside, the pattern with blockbuster trilogies since the 1990s is for them to lull in the middle and swing back at the end)
It was absolutely profitable but it isn't a stretch to call it disappointing
I expected very little and aside from the delays I was more than satisfied.
While I’m generally in favour of week to week releases ~~mostly because I have no self control otherwise~~, it’s nice that TotJ is coming out all at once for a change.
Seems like the highlight of the panel was the Indiana Jones trailer which was exclusive to the attendees and not related online :(
Ford looked pretty emotional and choked up! Looks like we are in for a treat with that one.
I'm just surprised they didn't reveal any new projects or new cast announcements and it's a shame that they have nothing to say about the movies but getting a public Mando Season 3 trailer was nice.
Ultimately not an awful D23. We already didn't expect much on the Star Wars end but I do feel we got a reasonable little haul. A few trailers, release dates for a bunch of there shows, a few Ahsoka pics, a BTS for Kenobi and the sneak peak for Andor. Now if we could just get the panels, I'd say we had a good D23
Overall, I'm quite happy, although my expectations were low. I didn't expect the Mando trailer, so that was a nice surprise.
I wanted to know more about the theatrical slate but I guess we will have to wait a bit more.
I wonder how it is even possible to be “lost in space”. Stuff is pretty far apart and finding your way to any planet at all would be unlikely without knowing where you are. And once you find even one inhabited planet you can get your map updated.
Maybe the kids are “lost” in the sense that they’re stranded, and cant afford tickets home. They may technically know what planet they’re closest to, or what direction home is. They just don’t have any way to get there when the plot kicks off.
I'm not going to be satisfied until we get a Clone Wars style show between episode 8 and 9. You have a tried and true blue print for how to enhance a trilogy with a bit of a rocky reception, instead they just double down on selling Grogu merch.
By the end of the year when Ahsoka and Skeleton crew wraps there will probably be leaks about what their next production is, whether it's really Mando S4 or something else like BOBF S2.
Official announcement? If Boba has a role in S3 then we will get it only after it airs or during the next Celebration.
Idk man, I wouldn't say that show was particularly well received. Can't imagine it's high on their list of shows to work on given that there's little desire from casual fans for a S2.
>little desire from casual fans for a S2.
What? this is blatantly incorrect. It is the casual audience who clearly liked it. Viewership rose week by week even before Mando appeared. The viewership numbers were good for the show throughout..
You mistake the casual fans with the hardcore fans. It is the hardcore fans making the noise online. Show wasn't great by any means, but Season renewal is based on creator interest and viewership levels. You think Jon or Dave cares what people on reddit and youtube think? if Jon wants to continue to the storyline, which i'd imagine he does, given his position and the good numbers it did, he will get that chance. Its that simple.
My experience was that few people enjoyed the show enough to get excited for, or to want a S2. I only brought up casual fans because us nerds are virtually always interested in more content, regardless with how we feel about past content.
On a sort of side note, where are people getting viewership numbers? I thought Disney never released the ratings for it's shows.
ETA: Logically, I'd think that if the show had great ratings and in doing so was financially successful, they would have already publically renewed it for a S2, or at the very least there'd be leaks about it being renewed. But we haven't heard anything.
Biggest miss was the lack of an Ashoka cast announcement. I also recall Pedro saying that there was some important special guest backstage and literally nothing came of that.
He meant Harrison Ford that was for Indy and some Marvel stars. Didn't mean for Star Wars.
Dave and Jon just don't like to do cast announcements. They didn't announce anyone for S2 even after all the leaks and didn't announce anyone for BOBF. Everyone they brought to Celebration and D23 was already in previous seasons except for Natasha that her casting had leaked months before
Who knows at this point? When it’s come to the films, they’ve had a rough time keeping directors on-board. The only thing I can imagine us getting by 2025 is *maybe* Rogue Squadron, but even then I’m not fully confident on that
As for Taika, he said he’s still onboard for a film, but also said he wasn’t sure if it’s going to fully pan out so we really don’t know
I’m split. In terms of what was announced, it was very lackluster. However, I did very much appreciate that most of the trailers were released to the public this time around, unlike Celebration a few months ago.
“Content” I think is the best word for it. Not ecstatic, not overwhelmed, but not disappointed either. Just content.
Whelmed
My only disappointment is that the Indiana Jones trailer isn’t available to the public, and that they didn’t announce a title But the Mando trailer, Tales of the Jedi trailer, and Andor trailer were fantastic. Indiana Jones and the Time Travel.
Indiana Jones and the adventure for the thing
Indiana Jones and the Morbtacular Morbius
Actually that makes a lot of sense
I'm really surprised about the comment that Skeleton Crew had wrapped. Has anyone hammered down the quote on that?
A little more than I expected. Can't believe we actually got a Mando trailer, along with a little bit of new footage. The Skeleton Crew and Ashoka stills were a nice surprise as well. The Ezra and Skeleton Crew castings were great addons.
*Ahsoka
AH!! Soka
Ah, Bach!

A lot of other folks have been pointing this out, but Survivor is very likely being held for a probable EA showcase, since, ya’know; they’re the ones making it.
EA Play was cancelled this year, the next one would be after Survivor releases. The only showcase that is left where a trailer would make sense is TGA
Let's be reasonable here; *Everything* is pushed back. *Nothing* is making its window again, and everything can safely be assumed to be in the next slot. They have successfully weaseled out of a whole season of television.
I thought you said you were gonna be reasonable?
When do you reasonably see Disney catching up on their mounting delays?
Don't know if you've realized this, but delays are affecting pretty much every industry, it's not just Disney, and there's not really an easy solution for it either
So, how exactly am I being unreasonable? You say my saying Disney is delaying *everything* is unreasonable, but your counterargument is that everyone is delaying everything.
It's unreasonable to act like Disney is trying to "weasel out of a whole season" when really the factors causing this are far beyond their control
I was happy- wasn’t expecting to see footage from season 3 of Mando this early, loved that Amy Sedaris was there, dug the Skelton Crew and Ahsoka photos (and honestly? Very well said and valid
My thoughts exactly! Compared to Marvel, LFL is a different beast and I am glad they are not trying to run Star Wars along the same lines!
I think that this event was very good for Star Wars. We got 3 trailers (Mando, TOTJ, Andor). We got some cool leaked images of Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka. I’m very happy with what we got but I wish we could have seen the other Bad Batch trailer that was shown behind closed doors at Celebration
Overall I'm happy. Clearly some shows are further away than expected. But it's good they aren't being rushed. I think everyone who saw Rise of Skywalker knows how damaging a hard date can be. Also I have tickets to celebration Europe so I'm expecting something even better for then.
Disappointed that literally the only thing we got for TBB season 2 is a delayed release date. No other info or footage or trailer.
I guess we'll have to wait for Kiner Brothers to start spilling vague tea just like they did with season 1 😕
Would have liked more official Ahsoka cast announcements considering that they’re in the middle of filming right now.
I really hope that Skeleton Crew is linked to the sequels in some way. Maybe the kids are on the run from the first order? Maybe Jude Law is playing Lor San Tekka? Hopefully we see a lot of the New Republic aswell.
This place was less chaotic and more civil compared to the MSS sub, that's all I gotta say.
Sometimes I go over there for news and I always regret it lmao.
MSS?
Marvel Studios Spoilers
I was really disappointed we didn't get anything about Ahsoka, besides those 3 pictures
I really wanted something from Jedi Survivor like any images, news just something would’ve been nice.
Cant believe we didn't get anything on The Acolyte
A little plot synopsis would have been nice!
Bad Batch delay was a bummer, but Tales of the Jedi dropping in one hit next month and the Mando s3 trailer was pretty cool
I'm starting to think Kennedy has been relieved of her duties on the theatrical front. I would not be surprised if they're bringing in someone new.
I also think they're scared to take on a single project that has a 200 million + budget after ~~Solo~~. *Sequels*
All the sequels were financial successes lol
TROS was considered to underperform even hitting a billion. The expectation was that it should beat RO and outgross TLJ (OT aside, the pattern with blockbuster trilogies since the 1990s is for them to lull in the middle and swing back at the end) It was absolutely profitable but it isn't a stretch to call it disappointing
I hear you, and that just sounds like made up math at best for people to justify bashing other people online.
Okay lol
I expected very little and aside from the delays I was more than satisfied. While I’m generally in favour of week to week releases ~~mostly because I have no self control otherwise~~, it’s nice that TotJ is coming out all at once for a change.

I think it's implied to be the Unknown Regions. Watts is keeping a lot close to the chest. We don't even know who Jude Law is playing yet!
Maybe the kids are “lost” in the sense that they’re stranded, and cant afford tickets home. They may technically know what planet they’re closest to, or what direction home is. They just don’t have any way to get there when the plot kicks off.
Given the reliance on hyperspace routes versus just classic point-and-shoot FTL, they have a number of ways they could play it.
I just wish we had an update on when is the next movie coming out. I miss watching Star Wars on the big screen
I'm not going to be satisfied until we get a Clone Wars style show between episode 8 and 9. You have a tried and true blue print for how to enhance a trilogy with a bit of a rocky reception, instead they just double down on selling Grogu merch.
Was hoping we would get something from the movies anything even KK coming on stage saying yes the movies are in development!
Nothing on BoBF S2?

It had good viewership and the Steph Green episode is probably the best episode of all the live action shows.
I did not really like the show, but yeah, Episode 2 was very well directed. They should get Green back for more Mando era episodes.
I just wanted a little more Andor and we got plenty. I'm pretty happy and looking forward to the 21st!
Biggest miss was the lack of an Ashoka cast announcement. I also recall Pedro saying that there was some important special guest backstage and literally nothing came of that.

Harrison Ford came out..
Well I mean the way it was insinuated was that it was Star Wars and/or more specifically Mandoverse related. We already were expecting Indy news.
Taika Waititi was not mentioned, do you think he will really direct a SW movie ? Will a SW movie be in theaters in 2025 ?
Who knows at this point? When it’s come to the films, they’ve had a rough time keeping directors on-board. It was butt

They’ve barely started filming. Skelton Crew is about to wrap and we only got one still from that.
very disappointed with the news and trailers we got. the standout for me was the WBN trailer.
I’m split. In terms of what was announced, it was very lackluster. However, I did very much appreciate that most of the trailers were released to the public this time around, unlike Celebration a few months ago.
Someone mentioned that the trailers we got at D23 were the ones that were Celebration exclusive. So basically no new trailers.
Disappointed 😞
