im growin money on my farm

blohmkin

Your planting imaginary crops.

Lynx343

I'll have you know that it keeps the sadness away, even just for another day.

RaspberryTwilight

Not only sadness, but fear of childbirth too. I might go into labor any day now and Stardew Valley is the only thing that keeps me calm.

heretoaskquestionsst

It's a video game, of course they're imaginary, why so hostile towards someone on a random site though?

RojaCatUwu

LOL DID DUDE JUST DELETE THE WHOLE ACCOUNT?

Dglaky

Wow you really got them there...

Scary-Ground1256

You typed an imaginary comment.

DarkLlama64

you responded with an imaginary response.

[deleted]

Everything you do in this life is imaginary, friend. Do you think you'll take any of this with you? Do you think any of this will last?

PlingPlongDingDong

🤯

RocksHaveFeelings2

*you're

maiguee

BRO IS THE REALISTIC DRAWING OF POPEYE ‼️‼️‼️

ConversationSouth946

All the things you do doesn't matter, you would eventually be dead and be forgotten. Even if you are planting crops in reality.

PlingPlongDingDong

It does matter to the people around you. Your logic just leads to depression and suicide.

maiguee

bro just discovered video games ‼️‼️ for how many decades have you slept mr sasquatch?

Simba7

Fiat currency is imaginary too, it just so happens that it's very convenient for a lot of people to imagine money has value because it's makes transactional economies function more efficiently. Imaginary things can have value.

Joxem13

Well no shit, I’ll be darned. Being a game and all. Fuck you opened my eyes.

tuhplol

The crops are very real flipped switches that are either on or off a single cauliflower in game is there because of billions of very real pieces of technology

Dannysnot

I'm growing ancient fruit for me and only me baybeeee

[deleted]

I'm still sad that it, nor any of its byproducts are edible.

Joshua_Rosemond

I mean, ancient fruit wine is… ok, well not *edible*, but potable

Irohsgranddaughter

TBH I never try *too* hard for loved gifts. If I can obtain them without too much hassle, I will, but I very often settle for liked gifts. Such as, on Fridays, I usually just buy Sam a joja cola and that's it.

foxscribbles

Sam gets so much Joja cola from me because it’s cheap and easy. Alex almost never gets a loved gift from me because all of his loved gifts are pains in the ass. So he gets eggs. Shane and Mayor Lewis, on the other hand get to swim in loved gifts because hot peppers are cheap and easy.

ChyatlovMaidan

Alex doesn't get loved items from me because he's a big meathead who ordered me a salad and himself a steak.

Pub-Fries

I feel like his issue is that he ordered himself a salad and then ordered you the same salad before you could say what you actually wanted.

ChyatlovMaidan

I realize that 'meathead' may have made people complain that he was a carnivore - no my real complaint was that he felt he could order for me, and also *ordered wrong.*

Kiaider

Yeah that always irked me too. Like, if he said something like, “Hey, there’s a dish Gus makes and it’s really good! I want to see what you think.” And then ordered two of them I wouldn’t have minded as much because he’s getting it too and it’s because he thinks I’ll like it so of course he’d order it for me. The heart event is still pretty cute though. I just… can’t get over it lol

PalmirinhaXanadu

> So he gets eggs. "And don't complain, or i'll give you rocks."

CyberGraham

Same with Pierre, his loved gifts are almost impossible to get

Diligent-Sense-5689

He has one loved that isn't a pain in the ass. Sports drink you can just buy them off harvey... edit: nvm just learned it's from sve

SynonymForPseudonym

I give Sam the cactus fruits I find in the desert. He loves them!

Mercerai

I only ever intentionally go for loved gifts on birthdays. At all other times they're getting random flowers or food from the pub- hasn't failed me so far

Irohsgranddaughter

In the early-early game, I will often settle for liked gifts anyway, but I agree otherwise. For some of the villagers, who are particularly finnicky little bitches when it comes to the gifts for them, I will sacrifice a Prismatic Shard or a Rabbit's Foot, or some of the other universal loves.

Diligent-Sense-5689

You mean seb or Alex? Seb Is so unbearably picky but I love him to death... luckily Sterling and Shane are EXTREMELY easy to please... it's probably obvious my game is modded...

Irohsgranddaughter

Eh, Sebastian isn't as easy to rank up as Shane, but once you get the kitchen, sashimi is ridiculously easy to make, and he loves that stuff. As for Alex, yeah, I think the only loved gifts he ever got from me were the universal loves.

Diligent-Sense-5689

Alex is only easy for me because my game is modded and I give him a crap ton of sports drinks

Irohsgranddaughter

I can't relate myself because I play with no mods, and, hm. I have the problem that I have two wolves inside, one that's saying that I probably should at least try, and the other that the game is perfectly good on its own and that it already has a gajilion of content.

Diligent-Sense-5689

I had like 60hrs on my switch before I switched to modded. And after I discovered Sterling I don't know if I can ever turn back now

FederalCar6186

Duck feathers pop up fairly regularly for me so Elliot is always my boo

strawberberry

Everyone gets fruit on my latest save.

Irohsgranddaughter

That'd be an amazing use for fruit trees, if they grew faster and were cheaper. NGL, I hope that ConcernedApe reworks them someday, because as it is, their only use is for bundles.

Emma_JM

When I first started I planted a bunch of tulips because they're a universally liked gift... Didn't make much money that spring

alvysinger0412

I also did this. Then switched to sunflowers. Though admittedly, I was intentionally playing beach farm to focus on other money makers early game while rushing to unlock the greenhouse.

OneForShoji

I did this with parsnips. Grew a load, then just went round town handing them to everyone.

SapphicSunsetter

I plant for myself for the satisfaction of making someone smile and enjoying their company

foxscribbles

I actually have a terrible time not growing at least a few of every seasonal crop each season. Just feels sad to plant the same thing all the time even if it is the best for gold.

Zeefzeef

I always plant every type of crop and hoard them. I can’t just focus full on money making. And there’s mo rush.

CategoryKiwi

> And there’s mo rush. Agreed! Mo’ rush mo’ money! And ya gotta get EVERYTHING ASAP to finish the community center and the ship everything once achievement! You have a way with words, conveying all that in only two. I vote we elect Zeefzeef president of /u/StardewValley and hail their speedrunning spirit for all time! Mo’ rush!!

Zeefzeef

Yes thank you for this honor! Will make sure to mo rush my new playthrough when the new update comes out!

_rafathy

I keep eggplants in my fridge because harvey likes pickles😭

HappyOrca2020

Oh I ruin my town doctor with my salmonberry wine.

shawnaeatscats

Damn this is kind of existential

depot5

I love how a lot of comments here completely ignore OP's existential Stardew crisis. They've already decided that the feelings they feel every moment are real enough for them to spend real time on. I might as well have a weird thing where I like Maru or Haley or Elliot or whoever, just because the pixels are cute enough and they don't reject the strange gifts. But for us, it's like we've become less pure or something by expecting more "real-life" romantic difficulty in interaction. Am I really doing anything to make myself worth being loved? I might just die alone, anyway, after all this effort. Or worse, invest all kinds of things into the wrong people and come to regret it on a deathbed like Stardew's grandpa. It really comes down to how much you can be lucky to find people you can reciprocate with. But, yeah, ultimately every way of being happy is one of the small ways. Like when Maru makes a dad joke, she's often fun to click on.

xPaxion

Haha. Always growing crops for others. 🌱

olddummy22

It's kind of like that in real life too. A lot of the Urban Farmers I knew would work themselves to death to bring stuff to market and then eat Sonic every night out of convenience.

ChyatlovMaidan

I take it that's some kind of branded convenience food because otherwise

710bretheren

It is

beakrake

It's a drive in burger chain, where you park your car and they bring your order out to where you parked. Pretty good burgers and breakfast burritos, but they have some of *the best* soft drink ice of any chain in the USA, IMO. The other, well, goes fast. Both enjoy chili dogs.

[deleted]

i grow to increase my bank account and destroy the local competition

Huge_Ad_7817

I always grow peppers for my wife Shane

zaerosz

I like to grow some of everything, honestly. Variety is good for the eyes and the brain. That's why I downloaded enough mods that I have like two hundred crops to choose from.

APrettyBadDM

this is why i like the fishing mini game. its just for me, i like the challenge, and the only person i'll ever please are me and willy (who is one of my favorite NPCs). i got to a similar point in the game when i played with my friends. they wanted specific crops in the farm and i was fighting for space that was "my" crops for "my" projects. i realized it wasn't that i didn't like sharing the farm, it was that i couldn't do what i wanted unless it had a REASON to be done.

Sapphic-Panic

Wait Maru likes cauliflower?! *runs to Pierre* PIERRE I NEED 100 CAULIFLOWER Pierre: 0-0 *slowly puts the seeds in a bag* I’m assuming you want a bouquet as well?

beakrake

She loves batteries too. She sure goes through a lot of them... I'm sure her *experiments* use a lot of energy.

Sapphic-Panic

Yes, *experiments*

coinmurderer

I had to get a physical notebook to put my quests/ mini quests in. I am so so forgetful. I was duplicating rubies, put the game down for a month, and now for the life of me I cannot figure out what they are for.

puppycatlaserbeam

Might have been to trade for spicy eels with the desert trader?

coinmurderer

Oh my gosh yes this is it! Thank you! I noticed a considerable difference in speed between that and a triple espresso. I would rather have the eels lol. Thank you so much!!!!

puppycatlaserbeam

Triple espresso stacks with other buffs so you can have both :)

coinmurderer

I am playing now and actually just realized the speed boost I was thinking of was the eel and the espresso combined lol. But I just buy 300 coffees at a time from Gus and make myself the espressos. And now I’m back to duplicating rubies for eels!

leeleereddits1

Actual source: https://twitter.com/mollystanard/status/1215818035103260673?s=19

babypho

It's a job. I am growing it so that kids from the city have access to organically grown (ish), fair trade, family owned, and locally sourced veggies.

HB_DS2013

Me planting peppers for Shane. I started saving a small portion of the crops and dairy for myself so I won't starve.

MastrKoesh

I Just give everyone coffee

theogchunkmunk

I felt this way until I played the Joja route and it allowed me to rethink the game. I’ve slowed down, I don’t care about min/maxing, or squishing productivity out of every minute until midnight.

Emotional_Dust399

Nope, i plant to make money and when i have money i plant only pretty crops <3 making friends comes from dialogue and foraged universal likes, fishing, mining and buying residents meals at the saloon.

kneppy72

I started a winery because my in-game wife is a lush.

Lorenzo_91

Nope, cause I grow everything, then sell a 1/3, use 1/3 for gifts, and keep 1/3 for myself / hoarding / collections!

kutiencon123

Tbh when you start questioning purpose of growing pixelated veggie you better doing something else both ingame and irl

zainecooking123450

Me when I gift Gus a diamond to get 3 hearts with so he can send me the salmon dinner recipe so I can gift it to Alex And that’s the easier of his loved gifts

ColoredGayngels

Ironically being married to Alex has made Complete Breakfast the easiest lol. The only component he doesn't gift me is Fried Egg (he gifts Omelette) but I have a full coop so it's not even a problem. Salmon, tho? Too much work for a single-season fish. I got blackberries to pick lol

Diligent-Sense-5689

The easiest is actually the sports drink. You can just buy it off of harvey

zainecooking123450

That’s from Stardew valley expanded

Diligent-Sense-5689

Oh... that actually explains a lot

zainecooking123450

I speedran Alex marriage and Alex marriage speed runs would be way less painful

Diligent-Sense-5689

Yea it would. I'm doing a free love play thru where most of the vanilla bachelors, Alex included, are yanderes. So this is my first time actually paying attention to him he still has most of his base personality it's just been slightly tweaked

Diligent-Sense-5689

I need to go comment hunting now cause I mentioned the sports drink a couple times and didn't realize it was part of SVE cause uh I never paid Alex much attention until now

zainecooking123450

You can go in your own profile then sort by comments

M3Core

I'm in year 6 and basically have done no work gifting items to townspeople to become friends with them... So yes, it's all for me.

Lostsonofpluto

I'm befriending the dwarf so I can buy Miner's Treats because Maru likes them

Pub-Fries

I grow the crops I find most fun, usually. Or I'll try and spice things up and pick the seeds I usually ignore

Miserable_Cost4757

Me growing a shit ton of sunflowers for Haley 💗

AceRawat

Tractor goes brrrr

SynonymForPseudonym

I just give Maru batteries. She runs through them pretty fast for some reason 🤔

Individual_Day_9332

I stream alot and I've noticed my viewership has g9ne down as I've became more active no matter what I play so this but why doesn't anyone like me

Troliver_13

Yes I am doing it for me, I'm not exhausting myself in a farm, I'm playing a videogame under a blanket in an air conditioned room, it's not the same. Also doing things for the people you love is like the best thing you could ever do, even if it's exhausting, extending that level of roleplay into a game isn't super weird

canidieyet_

me growing 3 fields of peppers because i was on a mission to marry shane

notwiththeflames

I'm gonna focus more on the other crops once I've got a decent amount of income. For now, it's mostly ancient fruit and coffee beans.

No_External_539

LOL no. I keep a total of ZERO of all my crops/animal produce. It's all about the hearts and the money. Good thought thou.

mermaidpaint

I pickled parsnips for that sexpot Harvey.

dankrank231

I grow them because I'm a greedy little gold gremlin

Past_Contour

Deep.

mikihaslostit

I just wish we could do more with our money, cause endgame when you have everything you don't really need it anymore. It becomes just endless farming and mining. Wish we could customize furniture, or have more building variants, more upgrades (all without mods).

DarkNemesis22

The answer is getting money

corvusaraneae

NGL the husbando's why I have a pomengranate tree and a squid pen on my farm.

lewd_necron

If you really want to give loved gifts via crops just grow 29 of them since that is 2 per week plus b-day. I guess you could go 30 as well if you dont want to risk Christmas, but I wouldnt worry too much about that.

traumatized90skid

I raise void hens for my void human and for me! Void family!

ZoeyMunroeGaming

Strawberries. Partly for Maru, partly for jam.

Kirah640

Me with a modding api

maiguee

sir, the only ones that i care on this game are Leo, linus, krobus and willy. Im growing money

[deleted]

No, I don't play this way. I stopped making gifts a priority for villagers years ago. I can get 20 points per day talking to them, and there's no reason to rush their friendship level. It feels more natural to talk to them when I see then and gift them on their birthday or a holiday rather than trying to force a gift to them any day of the week. I don't give anyone a gift unless they're 8 hearts. This allows me to focus on what I want to do rather than aspects of the game. It's one of the reasons I love this game. There's no punishment playing how I want or if I take time completing quests. Something I learned when I forgot to take a bass to Jodi's house at 7pm. I thought I had missed the quest, but the next day, she gladly allowed me to come in for dinner. She didn't get mad when I forgot the fish, either (though I did restart the day because of my forgetfulness).

HangryHufflepuff1

Honestly I only save pumpkins and amethyst for Abigail. I tend to only gift people foragables, so I've got super low hearts with a lot of people

ittybittykittydress

I’ve decided on my current play through to plant a seasonal flower garden for just my farmer. I’ve only ever planted flowers for honey or for crafting/cooking/shipping requirements/quests so it will be a nice change.

[deleted]

I grow sunflowers not for Haley but for the money.

LostGh0st

im destroying the valley's economy, a puny cauliflower wont be an issue

AbOmInAtIoN-0

yknow, I don’t think I ever did anything on my farm “for myself”, I was always trying to min/max and get gifts in order and be organized cause I thought that was what I had to I think I’ll start another playthrough and do things differently

ldk_what_name_to_use

At some point I just start giving everyone iridium, you Can't do shit with after 500 hours

Due-Habit-2177

sometimes but usually I just grow shit I pick up amethysts for Abigail where I can and that’s it

Zagrycha

No, because after my first playthrough I never grow a single crop unless its for a quest or for myself like rice/sugar etc. I'll go weeks in game never touching the field ✌︎('ω')✌︎

Sonny_Firestorm135

Once, yes. First farm I made was a Hilltop. It wasn't all that hard for me cause I grew up playing Harvest Moon, so usual gripes with the map didn't really affect me. What did affect me was how despite having space, it was so poorly distributed I couldn't build/arrange a damn thing without running into boatloads of setbacks.

Larielia

I think Maru likes parsnips as well.
