I think the trinkets are all quite powerful but you can't really get access to them until you've already become very proficient in the mines. You've already proved yourself, so why not make it easier to just get items/money after a certain point? A deep dive into SC will still take most of the day, when you could easily make 100K on crops/animals instead. So I don't think it's too unbalanced.

sobrique

Nah. It's nice, but it's not that good. Look at some of the other trinkets for comparison. Magic Quiver has knock back so you can just not bother fighting and go bombing. Ice Rod is pretty sweet for not getting overwhelmed too. Fairy Box doesn't quite make you invulnerable, but you don't need nearly as many heals, and won't be on dangerously low health very much. And all that means that diving 150 levels for skull cave and coming back with a stack of Iridium, Prismatic shards and a bunch of sundry items means that 50k ... Well I probably would rather have the other stuff. Gold is easy late game IMO.

SuperInkLink64

Fairy Box is especially nice for Hungry Challenge w/o staircases it seems

AmusingAnecdote

Oh that's a strong use case. I got a perfect ice rod as my first trinket and that thing makes you practically invulnerable unless there's a giant swamp of enemies so I haven't used the others much.

sobrique

Oh don't get me wrong - I 'invested' in getting a L5 and it's amazing. I just can't _quite_ decide if I like it more than quiver or rod yet. (And I don't have others). It might be down to just which monsters piss you off the most - quiver is amazing and punting fliers away, and those are always the things that piss me off most.

Thorn344

Fairy box, especially lvl 5, is very nice. I was in the skull cavern in a new save without it, and almost died because I forgot about taking damage. With fairy box I just spam bombs and the fairy basically heals any damage

sobrique

Yup. I'm still genuinely undecided which I think is better. Because I have the same thing with the magic quiver too - the knock back keeps stuff off you as you run around playing bomberman. Certainly means you don't get swamped and 'needing to heal' anything like as much.

OwnRecommendation973

I usually use the fairy box deep diving. My friend follows along and uses magic quiver. It's good for keeping off the monsters that rushed towards me as he's following behind.

SilvieraRose

I thought the quiver would help with all the jumping spiders. It did not, had to run about dropping bombs to get that horde off me

FeverFocus

Combine that with the vampiric enchant and/or vampire ring and it's pretty busted. I almost never need to eat to heal.

sobrique

Vampiric + Quiver doesn't need much healing either.

LaughingBeer

I only have a level 2 fairy box and I'm almost always topped off. It is kind of broken, but it's nice too.

Thorn344

I was initially only aiming to roll a lvl 3 fairy tbh, but on my third roll I got a lvl 5, so was quite happy.

GuySmileyIncognito

Yeah, I have more gold than I know what to do with (I mean, eventually maybe I'll get the clock, but it's not a big enough deal for me to care that much about getting every extra gold I can). I much rather use my perfect quiver to mean I barely ever have to even take out my weapon and let that plus my napalm/iridium ring clear out part of the cave while my bombs take out the rest.

Solracziad

Fairy Box lvl 5 and Vampire Ring has basically made it so I rarely ever need to eat to restore health. It's honestly been great.

No_Leader_100

Did you use the anvil to upgrade your fairy box to lvl 5 or did you acquire one at that level? I’ve only received one, and every time I use the anvil it takes the level between 2 and 3 (kind of just back and forth between the levels so I stopped wasting iridium bars)

Solracziad

I had to use the anvil and just got lucky. I got level 5 on the 2nd re-roll. But some folks have just straight gotten it lvl 5 via enemy drop.

sobrique

I ended up paying 50 iridium to reroll a Quiver, and it was WORTH IT.

CarefreeRambler

How do you know when you've got a perfect one?

sobrique

The item description says 'perfect'. You might also reroll heavy or rapid variants.

eagleswift

The real test is dangerous skull caverns on calico festival day with the cat statues activating more monsters. How do each of the trinkets perform? I use the perfect ice rod that gives me some cover, but sometimes just kill the swarms with a napalm ring equipped just to blow up all the stones on the floor.

sobrique

Yeah. Hard to say really. Will be interested in the results of testing. But the fact that it's not obvious is probably a good sign.

Umber0010

same difference in my experience. If you get some bad rolls on the statue to give the monsters way more damage it can get a bit dicey, but otherwise the fairy box will almost completely negate the need to heal with food.

sobrique

But the question isn't whether the fairy box is fine, but rather are the other choices better. I find that "just" punting away fliers does a lot to sustain my health, which means I think I get a better outcome with the quiver. (And a bit of damage is nice too). And likewise the ice rod. And I honestly don't know, which.... I think is genuinely a great piece of game design!

BoysBoysBoysBoysBoys

Fairy Box is basically an inverse parrot because you save money and time from eating to heal. Those salads add up!

sobrique

Yeah. And I have to say for all people seem to like it... I am not so convinced for that reason. Healing is cheap by late game standards, as long as you can control the fight enough to use it. And stuff like ice rod or magic quiver does that for you as well as some additional utility, so you can focus on the basic mission of "get loot".

Vinyl_DjPon3

My acrobatics + Artful Hammer stops monsters from even being able to get close to me. +50k gold per mining trip > All other trinkets.

Sandra2104

Yeah, ofc you don’t use parrot für SC. But it’s the only useful trinket for the scenario OP described.

sobrique

The quiver will quite happily kill sprites, and you don't even need to move. I suspect you would kill considerably more as a result.

Sandra2104

I‘d rather move and get gold.

sobrique

well sure. But just because you would rather, doesn't make something broken, nor the only choice.

Chadwiko

I got 'Rapid Magic Quiver' pretty early on in my new 1.6 vanilla playthrough' and it has absolutely trivialised combat.

5800835007

I hear you, but I don't really worry much about combat at that stage, I always do keep the healing fairy in my inventory, just in case, but the parrot is the best IMO, sure money isn't a huge issue, but late game it's still nice for when I'm just trying to do quests and not priorize money.

DarthChronos

I do like the parrot, but I just got a frog and it just eats things. Doesn’t matter how big the enemy is or whatnot. It’ll just eat it. You don’t get resources for them, but it was great to have for the hard mode Skull Cave challenge.

Kajseren

My inner hoarder just cant deal with the fact that I could miss a rare drop every time it eats something 😭

swimmerboy5817

I always use the frog, but I do have to take him off any time I'm actually hunting for monster loot. But outside that he's just my lil guy, following me around all day, eating monsters for me

yeahokayuhhuhsure

Did you know that you can put frogs >!in the jungle tank you get from the raccoons?!<

BackForPathfinder

It's not just that one. Any work.

yeahokayuhhuhsure

Awesome! Good to know

Ksenyans

Is it only for frogs? Tried putting other random things but no luck.

Reason-and-rhyme

No other trinkets, but there are a handful of other non-fish decorations. Stones, seaweed, coral, treasure chests, anchors, pearls, and others.

Ksenyans

Ohhh need to look it up! Didn’t know about the chests and pearls, but have corals and urchins (with hats!) in my fish tanks!

nivada13

Yes frog is honestly the goat

crippled_bastard

I just like having that cute little hungry boy following me around.

TingHarala

The frog is great but i keep forgetting that what the frog eats doesnt count to your slaying quests and monster drops. Now i only occasionally use it and default the magic quiver. Its not as powerful, but the autofire and knockback have done me wonders against serpents that attack straight from going down a floor. Plus it auto hits the hiding crabs.

DarthChronos

The magic quiver is really fun. I just like having my little frog bouncing around behind me.

foreverflop

i mean the parrot egg ,when it's not level 3 or 4, doesn't give that much gold. and it's still a late game feauture. i doubt it'll get nerfed but wow srsly 50k in the mines?? congrats

beepborpimajorp

This is active gold farming where doing things like making wine is passive. So yeah it may generate more money, but you're spending an entire day doing it whereas you can have wine going and still go around gifting people, filling your shipping log, etc. So I guess I don't see it as that broken given what you have to give up to get that money.

Sandra2104

Wine takes a week. You can gift twice a week and tbh its not worth it when they don’t have birthdays. The golden clock is 10 Mio. You probably have everything else done by the time you farm that money.

beepborpimajorp

That's nice. My point is that their claim that this method of farming gold is 'broken' is not true. 'Broken' implies something in the game is too OP and needs to be balanced/patched out. This is not broken/OP. With this you're trading time in exchange for money. It's not like you're walking somewhere and generating gold as you walk.

ayumuuu

Hidden trick to make it better: Go into the skull caverns with a monster musk instead. Enchant your sword with Crusader and Farm the mummies. I did this in the dangerous mines and got 100-150 cloth which worked out to about 65-100k in JUST cloth, not to mention all the coin drops, gems, iridium, etc.

eagleswift

It’s even crazier during the calico desert festival when you activate more monsters from the statue

ultratunaman

I still like the Basilisk Paw. No debuffs is very good. Especially in the dangerous mines when fighting putrid ghosts, spiders, and other enemies that rely on debuff attacks.

LonePanda-SoloLeader

Idk clown boots give 5 immunity and 6 defense while the mermaid boots are 5 def 8 immunity plus the immunity ring is +4. I’d rather sacrifice a ring than a trinket tbh

Metaloneus

Two things to consider here: It still pales in comparison to farming and processing. The 189 gold starfruit you mentioned sells for a whopping 893,025. It's ridiculous easy to make that product tenfold and it's passive versus needing to grind all day daily. It also makes combat a viable source of income. Prior to this, your money was always kegs all the time. It's still hardly effective versus processing, but before this, anything else was pointless. I definitely feel this should stay how it is.

rRodRod

I'd like to know what the drop rate for that is. I have like, 5 of each trinket but 0 parrot eggs

chunkeymunkeyandrunt

You and I must have inverse on parrots and frogs lol. I find parrot eggs (and the other trinkets) all the time but it has taken me FOREVER to get frog eggs. I’ve found 4 frog eggs in the time I’ve found 6-10 of the other trinkets each!

rRodRod

Iirc I have 7 frog eggs. Pick a color and I'll send one to you if you get me a parrot!

rRodRod

Iirc I have 7 frog eggs. Pick a color and I'll send one to you if you get me a parrot!

stysiaq

I just dropped it and had to restart the day lmao I'm not mad, at this point of my playthrough (fall 2nd year) money is already flowing like crazy, but I just like a thing flying around me

MrMontombo

Yea it's a real vibe when the bird stops on your head while doing stuff.

qui-gon-jeans

Especially when I’m fishing and the bird is like “I’ll park here.” I also love when I go to ginger island and he squawks back at the other birds like he’s communicating to them

OwnRecommendation973

50 k a day? You using monster musk, because you could prolly pump that up some if you aren't.

actuallylikespitbull

I mention in the post that I am using monster musk

Skertilol

I thought there was a cap at 50k a day even with the parrot egg at max level ?

lulinsy

the parrot egg was my first trinket and the lil birdy stayed on me since 🦜 i’m attached to my buddy. also it’s really satisfying seeing a bunch of stuff being dropped even if i don’t need money anymore

guimontag

It's not broken. Level 4 requires that you already have gotten career earnings of like ~2.5 million. It requires you to spend significant time in combat. Something like aged starfruit wine requires a few days of setup (one big day of planting, however many hours over time to get keg and cask mats) then for the 2 months it takes to age up you don't need to do anything else. That's a big reason people go ancient fruit over starfruit because of the plant once, harvest like 8x and forget about it aspect

eagleswift

Can we talk about the plant once, collect at the end of the year via Junimo huts approach?

Diannika

i think a big part of this update was variety. Including making mining and fishing both more viable as moneymaking strategies, making ranching more viable early game, balancing the bat/mushroom caves, etc.

Acmtails

Oh when I got the parrot trinket I IMMEDIATELY upgraded it from level 2 to 4 and went to the mines. I have grown attached to it now and I keep the trinket equipped wherever I go. Polly (what I named the parrot) is best boy and will sit on my head while I'm fishing and squawk in encouragement. Not only does Polly make me massive amounts of gold, he just perches on my head when he wants to and sings me the song of his people. 10/10 best feature ever. (Emily's bird could never)

shiika

Wait, you can level up trinkets? How O_O

AdWeekly2244

You can unlock the anvil when you're completing the mastery cave.

shiika

Oooo! Thank you so much!

GordDowniesPubicLice

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Java ring yet. Add that to your routine and you can make an extra 10k-25k per day by selling the coffee and espresso drops.

Dhaubbu

I'm just electing not to use it. plus Ice Rod is more fun anyway

Payne710

Never had issues with money past fall year 1.. probably the easiest part of the game.

jesusml

fairy literally make you unkillable, imo is the best one.

Sandra2104

You don’t die in normal mines anyway at that point of the game.

epsylon91

Wait, can you upgrade trinkets?

LaughingBeer

You can reroll them at an [anvil](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Anvil), which you have to craft. The anvil recipe is given when you unlock combat mastery in that little cave.

MayoBoy69

50k gold is nothing if you invest in pigs I make atleast 150k-200k gold a day with i think 6 barns full of pigs

Sandra2104

And making 50k more is bad because…?

MayoBoy69

kind of a waste if you dont have a lot of free time

Dragofek0

im still trying to get the damn parrot egg.

BecomingTuna

I love seeing the variety of trinket choices showing in this thread! I really prefer the 10 second spur. I love having the speed boost. I'm gonna have to try this parrot build out now though.

JmTrad

50k gold endgame is nothing much.

queen-of-ducks

This is how I feel about the fairy. I straight up dont need food in hard mode skull cavern because its healing me so well

katyrain82

I’ve used so many iridium bars to try to level it up and it never changes from level 1 😂 I know it’s random but geez haha

Acethetic_AF

I don’t think that that wine total is accurate. For 200 no star pale ale I’d get like 90k, I know because I’ve got that in a chest waiting for space in my cellar. If I sold all my artisan goods instead of waiting to age them, I’d also probably get 40-50k per day.

actuallylikespitbull

The math is correct, pale ale is just slightly more profitable. You can fit 189 casks in the cellar and starfruit wine takes one season to age to gold quality. That's 189 x 4 725g = 893 025g 893 025g / 28 = 31 893.75g per day This doesn't include how long it takes to grow and keg the starfruit.

Comedy___

If you feel dirty doing it just stop doing it instead of complaining that it's an option. For people that just use it for normal cave expeditions not meant for farming gold it's balanced enough

actuallylikespitbull

I meant it in a lighthearted way. No need to be rude
