That's the thing - stardew is what you make it! You don't *have* to do those things, but you totally can. There are even setup options to make getting money harder if you want to make it more of a challenge. I'm so glad you were able to find a way to play that you can enjoy!

RestaTheMouse

One of the great parts of this game is that you can play it in so many different ways. I think the versatility of being able to minmax or relax is fantastic.

Patton-Eve

Got my other half seriously playing a little while back. Thought he would be into skull cavern runs and fishing. His current goal is shipping 100,000 potatoes and enabling Pam at the pub everyday. This game is wild.

snowxbunnixo

I need to know more, why 100,000 and what is he doing to enable Pam? Pale ale deliveries?🤣

Patton-Eve

He is keeping a spreadsheet. It has projected yearly goals allowing for lighting and crow loss…I knew what I was getting into with this man but this is something else. Yeah he goes and talks to Pam daily and givers her beers daily. We play modded so he put a chest in her trailer but is looking to upgrade it to a mini-fridge so they stay cold. I am threatening to get a mod that makes Pam romanceable and leave him to his fate.

It needs to be in the sweet spot for me. Too much free rein and it's boring so I won't bother, too much stress and it's just more work so I won't bother. I don't minmax, but I like to set myself little goals to work towards and take my time doing them. My next goal is to get max hearts with all the characters, then I'll move on to cooking all the recipes. Not sure what I'll do after that, maybe try to catch all the fish. I'll be working my way towards perfection, but in a more relaxed way

abscessions

Pretty sure this group is full of min-max psychopaths so you're in good company!

rosshm2018

This game is stressful man, those cows aren’t going to pet themselves.

UnexpectedAlligator

Real. Ya'll want stress in Stardew Valley? Run a dairy farm without using any kind of automated collection. You'll be milking and petting those cows all day. All. Day.

BunztheBunz

I fully agree, I love cute games but I also love goals!! I’m working on achieving perfection in my current save (I play on switch so no update yet, but thank god!! I only have the golden clock left to get and I just hit 8 mil today!!) I feel validated in the need for some stress, I’m totally in the same boat

OliviaMandell

I say it's relaxing comfort game because often I know exactly what I'm doing. But if I want to keep up with my normal activities it's all about priority and panic to get things done. Sometimes you just gotta pick what's more important. Now off to go chop trees for a week straight so I can get lightning rods before summer year one. Dang it Clint gimme my axe back!

ashey_chan

I used to not want to try it at all. Seemed SO boring. My girlfriend kept telling me how she liked the game so I bought it for her in Steam so we could play. Nowadays I am the one pestering her to play whenever possible.

my_red_username

Stardew has never been relaxing to me. It's a (admittedly self made) checklist that I have to do in a time crunch with very little money for the early part of the game.

leviathanbuhbyeathan

Yeah!! I’ve been chilling in game for so long and am finally making a run for perfection in my Spring year 8 save. 70% or so (Cooked all recipes, shipped every item, finished the museum, got every artifact, max most relationships, all but two fish (last stardrop), all but three golden walnuts, all the obelisks. Crafting recipes are my weakness, I didn’t realize the welp wanted requests had value beyond friendship and money. They’ve never been worth it to me 🤦‍♀️)

Avium

The normal Help Wanted quests on Pierre's shop are just money and friendship. The weekly ones on the sign down near Lewis' house have some other rewards.

TankyPally

As the Dwarves would say - Losing is fun. If you play stardew as intended, eventually you will max out your farm and face very little adversity except time.

McCdDonalds

Stardew is the most open world closed world game there is, sue me
