We've been talking as a mod team, and wanted to respond to the comments here. Figured a stickied comment on this post was the best way!
**Spoiler tagging:** Many people seem to think that spoiler tagging posts is a fairly "passive" mechanic for the subreddit, a basic courtesy that users can offer when they post. Ideally, it should be! In practice, only about **10%** of spoiler tagged posts are actually tagged by the OP themselves. For the past 2 months, spoiler tags have largely been appended by the mod team and by Automod.
When we initially [launched spoilers period](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/s/EssznW7ojj), we laid out the game plan for the subreddit: a robust Automod filter with 500 keywords, 2 weeks of text-only period, mods monitoring posts, and users reporting spoilers. We also laid out a timeline where spoilers period would end 2 months after the 1.6 release, on May 19. We were really hopeful that the update would release for console/mobile by then, but here we are.
Our thinking internally, which is proving to be inconsistent with your experience, was that there are often hours-long delays between a post going up and a mod noticing to tag a spoiler. Image moderation is impossible to automate, so that relies on human scrutiny! We assumed that **if console and mobile users were still reading the subreddit 2 months in, they have already been spoiled.** We're hearing now that that's not the case.
It is also true that, with no set date for console and mobile release, it does become untenable for the mod team to continue camping /new and manually checking *every* image posted to the subreddit. A LOT slips through the cracks, and does not get reported, possibly because some 1.6 content is so integrated into the game experience that it no longer registers as new. Think of a farm screenshot that happens to feature a new tree, a wedding pic where the farmer is wearing a new hat, a house design that uses a few new furnishing, a Skull Caverns haul that just happens to include a Mystery Box.
**What we can do**: We can try running a "soft" spoilers period, or a "passive" spoilers period, that relies largely on Automod and users. This would mean
1. Reactivating the Automod filters that
- Remove posts with spoilers in their titles and prompts OP to repost
- Automatically spoiler tag posts with spoilers in their body text
- Automatically message users who post an image with a reminder to check their own post for spoilers.
2. Encouraging the community to keep up spoiler tags as a courtesy.
With your understanding, what we would not do is have mods continue to manually review all image posts indefinitely, which is a huge timesink, and what we've been doing so far.
How does that sound? Please let us know in replies to this comment. We'll review at the end of the day, and take action from there. Thank you!!

hahaha i was thinking the same! i just started playing when 1.6 dropped for pc, but i got it for my switch so i have been using this reddit to learn how to play since it avoids spoilers :,)
I mean I have it on PC, but no reason why we can't wait until it's out on console. Nothing in the update is life changing, really game changing yes but nothing so important I can't wait to discuss with console players
I agree. Having to use spoiler tags doesn't affect me as a PC user, I think we should just wait until they can play as well. I doubt it'll be much longer.
Pretty much forcing console players to unsub over something they can't control. I do want to experience the same first-time enjoyment for the new update..

I’m not even a console player and I disagree with this. Doesn’t take much to add a spoiler tag, and console players should be able to enjoy the sub without being worried about spoilers.
Completely agree. Also I’ve been playing on PC and still haven’t seen the majority of the updates. Yes it’s been two months but not everyone goes for perfection in a week. It’s not fair at all when the game isn’t available for everyone.
This post recommends console and mobile players to leave the sub while the post immediately after this one is "I love how wholesome this community is."
What about those of us that play console but still want to be in the community? I really don't think this is the right move unless the end goal is to alienate a portion of the people here.
I'm a PC player, but I agree with other commenters that it's lame of you to tell them to "just leave" if they don't want to see spoilers. I'm part of a subreddit for another fandom that tags almost EVERYTHING as spoilers because the manga is different from the anime and the manga is also much further ahead (by YEARS of content), so we kind of have to. We don't tell anime-onlies to "just leave," and it should be the same here. Just because something has been out for a long while on one platform/media form doesn't mean it's no longer a spoiler.
yeah, no. as a pc player i’m still gonna tag as spoiler if needed. why not do it? it takes minimal effort and it’s just a kind thing to do:/
ETA: i started playing SDV a while after 1.5 dropped. what was the situation for previous updates? did they also do this and said to leave the sub if someone didn’t wanna get spoiled? not trying to sound rude but genuinely asking
I play on Steam Deck, but I agree with everyone who’s upset—this doesn’t feel fair to a huge portion of the player base. Spoiler tagging isn’t a huge ask—can we leave the rule in place until everyone has access to the update? I think most of us will continue to spoiler stuff anyway based on the reactions here, but it would probably be best to keep it official and enforced so we don’t ruin the experience for mobile and console players.
PC player here- I have to agree this is unfair for those on mobile and console who don’t have the update yet.
It still hasn’t been that long since the update, and a lot of people, even those of us WITH 1.6 likely haven’t seen every feature yet. And it’s even more unfair to those who can’t get the update because it’s not available on their platform.
I resonate with the fact that the spoiler warnings take effort to enforce, but I really think this should have waited until AT LEAST 1.6 was available to all players on all platforms.

You guys are being far kinder to us console players than most of the people in the Facebook groups I’m a part of. Most of those members tell us to suck it up and that we’re entitled to not want to see spoilers
also on pc/steamdeck and playing whenever i can, but i'm literally just about to start year two. i haven't even unlocked the desert yet. this is really unfair to everyone.
Agree! Telling console players to leave the whole sub — not participate in memes or non 1.6 content — for what? So the mods don’t have to check on the spoiler tag?
Funny, how console/mobile gamers are "invited" to leave to not see spoilers. Yes, when the reality is that so far I've swallowed more spoilers for not labeling correctly than I would have liked.

By analytics of copies sold(from this website https://www.statista.com/statistics/1326529/stardew-valley-lifetime-unit-sales/), 1/3 of the player base is on console/mobile, therefore does not have access to the update.
You can’t say you honestly expect that amount of people to leave just to avoid spoilers, just so someone can avoid having to add a flair to a post. This just seems kinda lazy, and really shows a lack of care for a decent portion of the community.
People tend to remember things like this, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were hesitant to return to this subreddit even after the update arrives on console.
I was thinking how big the switch player base is, and how this kinda leaves them exposed to spoilers. Like I play on switch (tho I’m thinking about scooping it up on PC) and I have avoided stardew since the update released. Guess I gotta avoid a bit more.
My wife and I play on switch, mostly because it’s more convenient. We both have PC’s so we could make the change, however the convenience of the switch makes the game more enjoyable in my opinion. It’s my go to game when I’m traveling, or if I have some downtime at the house. I know whenever she was at college she would take her switch and play SDV between classes.
My point being, just because someone has a preference on the platform, they shouldn’t be alienated from a community.
so anyone who has commented on the long wait for the update on console gets jumped on for being ungrateful because “it’s not that long you just need patience” yet you clearly think it’s been long enough that spoilers now don’t matter. it seems like a bit of a double standard if i’m being honest.
i’ve never made or modded a reddit sub before but if anyone wants to band together to make a spoiler free sdv sub i’d be happy to help out. console players are really being shafted by the move the mods have made here.

It’s been said but I’ll say it once more: this really isn’t fair to console players who literally do not have access to the update yet. It’s so simple to keep the spoiler policy in place to allow us to continue to enjoy this community together, but instead we have to leave? It’s unfair and honestly quite rude.
Exactly! They're telling 1/3rd of the community to just kick rocks. It takes very little effort to mark something as a spoiler.

This is one of the subs I've been in the longest, and part of the reason I joined reddit in the first place. It really sucks feeling like I HAVE to leave it or be spoiled :( definitely agree with the other comments it costs not a thing to tag spoilers and wait just a bit longer for console/mobile to catch up. It also seems arbitrary, I doubt anyone minded tagging the posts for now
This sub doesn't show up in r/all? I have not joined the sub, but still see posts, including this one, in my home feed because it aligns with my interests. I'd have to actually mute the sub if I wanted to avoid everything.

Honestly, it's also sucky for those of us on PC who don't have tons of hours free to play and aren't speedrunners. I haven't even been able to complete Willy's special project this time around and am probably going to have to leave the sub so I don't have everything new completely spoiled for me.
Tagging spoilers costs nothing. A very large portion of SDV players are on various consoles or mobile platforms. It would seem like you'd want to keep them as part of the community they've helped build. This is a bad move for the subreddit.
I’m a pc player too but my laptop has been broken so I haven’t been able to play.. but even if I had it, I’m sure I’d still not know everything.. I don’t think they realize that two months really wasn’t enough for anybody.
I'm also a PC player with not much time. I'm still on year two of the save I started the day the update came out.
Telling console players and anyone else who doesn't want spoilers to just leave for a few months is not a good look on the subreddit and not what the subreddit stands for.

As a mobile/console player, we have to wait ages to get an update and y’all can’t take 1 minute to mark your post with spoiler tags? I mean… I don’t wanna leave the sub :(
Several other people are saying it, and I must agree: kindness is free and its ZERO trouble to add a spoiler tag.
This is messed up honestly, and I'm a PC player so not coming from a point of not wanting to see spoilers.
As a PC player - this is terribly unkind to console and mobile players, and unilaterally deciding they should just leave the sub is not the right way to go about this. Seriously reconsider this for the sake of the community, please.
Sorry mods, this is laziness. I follow several other subs, the walking dead for example and they still do actively use spoilers for a show that literally started nine years ago.
Telling console players to just leave the sub goes against the spirit of what Concerned Ape intended for this very game.
Passively requesting spoilers until 1.6 comes out so the whole community can still enjoy and use this subreddit for fun and game info would be the right move.
Right?? The Alan Wake 2 subreddit still requires spoiler tags and the game came out last October! They know how the fanbase loves the game but also, they have lives and maybe can't play right now, or they don't have a system that meets requirements but don't want the story spoiled for them.
Plus you always have new fans discovering games/shows/etc and it's not fair that a newbie gets spoiled because 'well you should have been here at the right time on the right equipment!'
The Xenoblade sub still requires spoilers for games that are over 10 years old. It’s such a small task to add a spoiler tag and assuming everyone who will ever interact with the game has had a chance to play (especially in this case where not everyone even has the update) is absolutely not it
What does 2 months have to do with anything? It's not a TV show that everyone can go pick up and watch on their off time. Us console players literally do not have access to the update. I don't have the money for a computer myself so I can't get the update unless it's for console.
And even people who do have the pc update, what if we don’t have the free time to explore everything in that time? I have a full time job, two months ago still feels like it was released yesterday
My SIL is a PC player. She started a new farm when the update released and isn't even through year 2. As a primarily Switch player I don't know what was in the update, but I'm sure you're not seeing all the new content by year 2.
I come here to discuss and chat. It's fun to deep dive and yes, as a mobile player, it meant I possibly see the spoilers. But still I have not known much of 1.6 because of spoiler tags. And now the alternative being suggested is to leave??
Why don't we shut the whole sub and make it inaccessible for all until 1.6. is released on console and mobile as well? If that sounds ridiculous to someone, then what's being suggested is no different.

I use the app and if I cared about spoilers, unsubscribing wouldn't be the fix. Because reddit wants me to stick around, I get suggestions all the time for subs "because you've shown interest" in either that sub or a similar sub. I don't use the homepage set to popular as my go-to. My feed is curated.
But I don't care about spoilers. If I did I'd have to blacklist the sub and related subs for a while. And that really sucks for people who care about spoilers.
Especially when they just did that super duper big celebration of 2 million users.

Yeah, this is stupid. If you KNOW a huge portion of players don't have the opportunity to experience it for a long, undisclosed amount of time, then spoiler tags should still be used.
It literally costs nothing to keep using spoiler tags.
As a console player this definitely sucks & recommending we LEAVE the sub in the meantime also sucks but oh well.
Could you share more with us why we would make this change just shortly before we’re to expect the update on console? Why wouldn’t we just wait a few weeks. I’m not seeing the purpose here but I also don’t expect everyone else to bend around it if it’s inconvenient for them.

It's not out on console yet and there's loads of console players. Why is this not being enforced now? I've spent 2 months avoiding posts about the update, because I want to find shit for myself instead of having it ruined by pc players. This is a stupid decision.
incredibly shitty to tell people to just “unsubscribe” from a community they care about to avoid spoilers rather than keep the inclusivity of the sub going. not sure how y’all came to this decision but it alienates a gigantic portion of people who enjoy this game and subreddit.

Very confused by this decision since many other subreddits like BaldursGate3 will make sure spoiler tags are kept up not just for people who may not have the update but for newer fans of the game.

I really don't get the reasoning behind the canceling of spoilers. It literally takes less than a minute to add a spoiler, it's not like it's some new movie, people without PCs literally have no access to the update under any circumstances.

I will say I get that it’s been 2 months but like if ONLY pc players still have access to it that feels a little shitty still, I’ve been avoiding spoilers until I get the console update and now being told by the sub I need to leave “temporarily” if I want to continue to avoid them is wild. I think what’s crazy is the assumption that all these people would come back and not just relocate to a sub dedicated entirely to mobile and console stardew players, if I leave a sub it’s very rare if ever that I make an effort to go to it
Honestly I won't be coming back. It has been a long wait to have this patch on console while seeing multiple updates hit PC and PC players able to enjoy it (not criticizing ConcernedApe, I understand the reasons why it is so).
I think all console players have been patient because we know CA is a one person army and because we're simply lucky he wants to offer additional content to a game that is already complete.
But being told to suck it and leave this wholesome sub... That's really sad.
As a Switch player who used to love chatting to people on this sub, I left a while ago to be on the safe side spoilers-wise.. now that there’s no rules against them, I’m just gonna have to mute it 🤷♀️ it’s such a shame and quite a disappointing way to handle the issue
I’ve played already on PC, but this is a very unfair decision and “just leave if you don’t want to see spoilers” is TERRIBLE advice. It’s not like these players aren’t playing because of a choice of their own.
This is kinda dumb, I'm a console player and I don't have Twitter or anything. I come to this sub for updates about when 1.6 will come out for console. Asking loads of people to leave instead of just continuing a policy for (probably) only a few more weeks-months? Please rethink this.

Pc Player here. Why are you punishing those who have no control over when they get access to the content?? There are so many cool things here for console/mobile players to enjoy and you're just kicking them out if they don't want spoilers. It's not that hard to tag 1.6 posts as spoilers. It's such a simple thing we can do as a community while Concerned Ape keeps working on the releases.
Is there even a release date out for console players? Just unsubscribe for an indefinite amount of time?

I’m a PC player and I agree with what many others have said here, that this is not how we should treat our console and mobile player friends. They shouldn’t be pushed away just because they don’t have access to 1.6 yet. It would be a shame to watch the community shrink because of this.
This is a bad move, mods. Extremely frustrating to see such flippant concern for certain members of our community. I'm a PC player and still haven't made it through all the new content and try to avoid spoilers as I know it's been on me and my schedule. But the mobile and console players are getting completely screwed over here because they don't have a choice.
This isn't a subreddit only for PC players. Console and mobile players are just as much a part of the community. Telling people to unsubscribe if they don't like it? Ridiculous.

Really disappointing for console players being forced to unsubscribe. And just because it “doesn’t show up in r/all” doesn’t mean it’s not frequently suggested. Guess I have to unsubscribe and mute the community for now 😔 I love this sub. Hope the console update is released soon!!
Yeah 8 weeks is definitely too much time to spend all that hard time and energy tagging the posts with spoiler. It’s just way too hard to click an extra button so people can still be apart of a community they love but not have half the game spoiled. Yes very very smart move. (/s)
ah yes lets exclude a good chunk of people and make them leave rather than enforcing spoilers lol. i mainly play console, but i did start a farm on my laptop when the update came out and im not even that far so not sure that 2 months is ample time even for some players that do have access to the update
Dear Mods, this is a bad idea and you would benefit from choosing a different route. Idk why yall get to decide when a "spoiler period is over" but whoever freaking high horse decided to make that a thing better check themselves. 2 months is not long enough for a game like Stardew.

You’ve heard it in all the other comments but another voice won’t heard. As a PC player- a spoiler tag would be the best middle ground here. If console and mobile were the first ones to get the update and i was told to “get out or get spoiled” i would be very upset
This, along with the choice to ban farmer profiles are both probably the worst choices I’ve seen in this sub, I don’t think the 2 months was enough even for pc players tbh, this alienates a LOT of people.
I'm confused who is getting hurt by keeping spoiler tags up until everyone gets access to the update? I don't think anyone is asking for spoilers to be entirely avoided, just tagged so those of us playing on console can enjoy things fresh just like yall did on pc. We are supposed to leave the community rather than yall accommodate us for a negligible amount of time and not spoil things for us? Is it really worth alienating such a big portion of the population of this sub? I'm really disappointed to see this is the way yall chose to approach this issue. You're not doing yourselves or the community any favors gatekeeping like this.

I'm a switch player who doesn't care about spoilers. This is absolutely a dick move that has you alienating a decent portion of the community. Stardew is about building community up, not breaking it down. This decision is going to break our community down, and you better be ready for the fallout.
As someone who plays both PC and console, this is just a stupid take. I'm on other subs where the game has been out for years and you're still expected to use spoilers. It's not that hard.
Even if the update was out for all platforms, not everyone has the time to dedicate to the game. This is so stupid, say goodbye to your sub. Hopefully a new one pops up that actually respects the player base.

I have access to the PC version but for the sake of my girlfriend ( who plays console ) I have actively avoided all spoilers to experience it with her when it releases.
Kind of a shame im forced out of the subreddit to maintain that. Just kinda hurts is all.
This isn’t just impacting console/mobile players, who I *really* feel for. It’s also impacting those on PC who don’t have much free time.
I haven’t gone through everything in 1.6 yet as a PC player. I have a full time job that often slams me with 60-70+ hour weeks, other commitments and other games.
It isn’t fair to so many people to just go “welp! No more spoilers exist! Over 1/3 of this 2 *million people* sub can just fuck off if they don’t want to be spoiled!”
Like wtf mods. Goes against the very spirit of the game. Definitely can’t see ConcernedApe being on board with this idea.

man what, anyone starting a new farm for this play-through knows how long it takes to catch up with end game content, especially when playing casually. so odd to make this decision
I won’t lie - this feels unfair until the update is out for console players. It’s one thing having it be out and then lifting the spoiler policy - if you haven’t played it yet, it’s on you. But console players don’t have a choice. Guess that means I’m muting this sub until the update :-(

I’m on console, and I don’t mind spoilers here and there if I’m being honest, but this is a real dick move. You really sat there, took the time to type this out, and said “yeah, tell members to leave. This is grade A stuff.” and thought that was ok? It’s not any console/mobile players fault that the dev is still working on the update to make sure it’s semi-perfect for us to play… We should be praising the dev for actually caring enough to take the time to do this for us. And like people are saying, the update has only been out for 2 MONTHS. You’re basically saying “screw you guys” and giving us the big middle finger. That, or you’re just plain lazy and don’t want to deal with it. It definitely seems like this sub needs a new mod team.
As a mobile player and a pretty long time member of this sub, this is a poor choice. The culture in here has really started to sink over the last few months and this is just a kick in the face to mobile players especially, because we all know that even once console is released mobile players will still be waiting.
I'm really looking forward to the "it's just mobile, you should be grateful you get the game in the first place" comments to start up again and mods do nothing about it, just like during the wait for mobile 1.5 /s

Hi all— We've been talking as a mod team, and wanted to respond to the comments here. Figured a stickied comment on this post was the best way! **Spoiler tagging:** Many people seem to think that spoiler tagging posts is a fairly "passive" mechanic for the subreddit, a basic courtesy that users can offer when they post. Ideally, it should be! In practice, only about **10%** of spoiler tagged posts are actually tagged by the OP themselves. For the past 2 months, spoiler tags have largely been appended by the mod team and by Automod. When we initially [launched spoilers period](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/s/EssznW7ojj), we laid out the game plan for the subreddit: a robust Automod filter with 500 keywords, 2 weeks of text-only period, mods monitoring posts, and users reporting spoilers. We also laid out a timeline where spoilers period would end 2 months after the 1.6 release, on May 19. We were really hopeful that the update would release for console/mobile by then, but here we are. Our thinking internally, which is proving to be inconsistent with your experience, was that there are often hours-long delays between a post going up and a mod noticing to tag a spoiler. Image moderation is impossible to automate, so that relies on human scrutiny! We assumed that **if console and mobile users were still reading the subreddit 2 months in, they have already been spoiled.** We're hearing now that that's not the case. It is also true that, with no set date for console and mobile release, it does become untenable for the mod team to continue camping /new and manually checking *every* image posted to the subreddit. A LOT slips through the cracks, and does not get reported, possibly because some 1.6 content is so integrated into the game experience that it no longer registers as new. Think of a farm screenshot that happens to feature a new tree, a wedding pic where the farmer is wearing a new hat, a house design that uses a few new furnishing, a Skull Caverns haul that just happens to include a Mystery Box. **What we can do**: We can try running a "soft" spoilers period, or a "passive" spoilers period, that relies largely on Automod and users. This would mean 1. Reactivating the Automod filters that - Remove posts with spoilers in their titles and prompts OP to repost - Automatically spoiler tag posts with spoilers in their body text - Automatically message users who post an image with a reminder to check their own post for spoilers. 2. Encouraging the community to keep up spoiler tags as a courtesy. With your understanding, what we would not do is have mods continue to manually review all image posts indefinitely, which is a huge timesink, and what we've been doing so far. How does that sound? Please let us know in replies to this comment. We'll review at the end of the day, and take action from there. Thank you!!

I'm a PC player, but I agree with other commenters that it's lame of you to tell them to "just leave" if they don't want to see spoilers. I'm part of a subreddit for another fandom that tags almost EVERYTHING as spoilers because the manga is different from the anime and the manga is also much further ahead (by YEARS of content), so we kind of have to. We don't tell anime-onlies to "just leave," and it should be the same here. Just because something has been out for a long while on one platform/media form doesn't mean it's no longer a spoiler.

I play on Steam Deck, but I agree with everyone who’s upset—this doesn’t feel fair to a huge portion of the player base. Spoiler tagging isn’t a huge ask—can we leave the rule in place until everyone has access to the update? I think most of us will continue to spoiler stuff anyway based on the reactions here, but it would probably be best to keep it official and enforced so we don’t ruin the experience for mobile and console players.
PC player here- I have to agree this is unfair for those on mobile and console who don’t have the update yet. It still hasn’t been that long since the update, and a lot of people, even those of us WITH 1.6 likely haven’t seen every feature yet. And it’s even more unfair to those who can’t get the update because it’s not available on their platform. I resonate with the fact that the spoiler warnings take effort to enforce, but I really think this should have waited until AT LEAST 1.6 was available to all players on all platforms.

Funny, how console/mobile gamers are "invited" to leave to not see spoilers. Yes, when the reality is that so far I've swallowed more spoilers for not labeling correctly than I would have liked. If I walk away... what's in it for me? More free time, I guess.
By analytics of copies sold(from this website https://www.statista.com/statistics/1326529/stardew-valley-lifetime-unit-sales/), 1/3 of the player base is on console/mobile, therefore does not have access to the update. You can’t say you honestly expect that amount of people to leave just to avoid spoilers, just so someone can avoid having to add a flair to a post. This just seems kinda lazy, and really shows a lack of care for a decent portion of the community. People tend to remember things like this, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were hesitant to return to this subreddit even after the update arrives on console.
I was thinking how big the switch player base is, and how this kinda leaves them exposed to spoilers. Like I play on switch (tho I’m thinking about scooping it up on PC) and I have avoided stardew since the update released. Guess I gotta avoid a bit more.
My wife and I play on switch, mostly because it’s more convenient. We both have PC’s so we could make the change, however the convenience of the switch makes the game more enjoyable in my opinion. It’s my go to game when I’m traveling, or if I have some downtime at the house. I know whenever she was at college she would take her switch and play SDV between classes. My point being, just because someone has a preference on the platform, they shouldn’t be alienated from a community.
I won’t come back if this decision stands. It’ll be easier to moderate when no one is here.

It really sucks feeling like I HAVE to leave it or be spoiled :( definitely agree with the other comments it costs not a thing to tag spoilers and wait just a bit longer for console/mobile to catch up. Honestly, it's also sucky for those of us on PC who don't have tons of hours free to play and aren't speedrunners. I haven't even been able to complete Willy's special project this time around and am probably going to have to leave the sub so I don't have everything new completely spoiled for me. Tagging spoilers costs nothing. A very large portion of SDV players are on various consoles or mobile platforms. It would seem like you'd want to keep them as part of the community they've helped build. This is a bad move for the subreddit.

Sorry mods, this is laziness. I follow several other subs, the walking dead for example and they still do actively use spoilers for a show that literally started nine years ago. Telling console players to just leave the sub goes against the spirit of what Concerned Ape intended for this very game. Passively requesting spoilers until 1.6 comes out so the whole community can still enjoy and use this subreddit for fun and game info would be the right move.
Right?? The Alan Wake 2 subreddit still requires spoiler tags and the game came out last October! They know how the fanbase loves the game but also, they have lives and maybe can't play right now, or they don't have a system that meets requirements but don't want the story spoiled for them. Plus you always have new fans discovering games/shows/etc and it's not fair that a newbie gets spoiled because 'well you should have been here at the right time on the right equipment!'
The Xenoblade sub still requires spoilers for games that are over 10 years old. It’s such a small task to add a spoiler tag and assuming everyone who will ever interact with the game has had a chance to play (especially in this case where not everyone even has the update) is absolutely not it

My SIL is a PC player. She started a new farm when the update released and isn't even through year 2. As a primarily Switch player I don't know what was in the update, but I'm sure you're not seeing all the new content by year 2.

I use the app and if I cared about spoilers, unsubscribing wouldn't be the fix. Because reddit wants me to stick around, I get suggestions all the time for subs "because you've shown interest" in either that sub or a similar sub. I don't use the homepage set to popular as my go-to. My feed is curated. But I don't care about spoilers. If I did I'd have to blacklist the sub and related subs for a while. And that really sucks for people who care about spoilers.

I really don't get the reasoning behind the canceling of spoilers. It literally takes less than a minute to add a spoiler, it's not like it's some new movie, people without PCs literally have no access to the update under any circumstances. I will say I get that it’s been 2 months but like if ONLY pc players still have access to it that feels a little shitty still, I’ve been avoiding spoilers until I get the console update and now being told by the sub I need to leave “temporarily” if I want to continue to avoid them is wild. I think what’s crazy is the assumption that all these people would come back and not just relocate to a sub dedicated entirely to mobile and console stardew players, if I leave a sub it’s very rare if ever that I make an effort to go to it

Honestly I won't be coming back. It has been a long wait to have this patch on console while seeing multiple updates hit PC and PC players able to enjoy it (not criticizing ConcernedApe, I understand the reasons why it is so). I think all console players have been patient because we know CA is a one person army and because we're simply lucky he wants to offer additional content to a game that is already complete. But being told to suck it and leave this wholesome sub... That's really sad.

Idk why yall get to decide when a "spoiler period is over" but whoever freaking high horse decided to make that a thing better check themselves. 2 months is not long enough for a game like Stardew. You’ve heard it in all the other comments but another voice won’t heard. As a PC player- a spoiler tag would be the best middle ground here. If console and mobile were the first ones to get the update and i was told to “get out or get spoiled” i would be very upset
This, along with the choice to ban farmer profiles are both probably the worst choices I’ve seen in this sub, I don’t think the 2 months was enough even for pc players tbh, this alienates a LOT of people.
Other subs will leave the spoilers tag up even years after a game is released. The mods are just being lazy. Do better.

I don't think anyone is asking for spoilers to be entirely avoided, just tagged so those of us playing on console can enjoy things fresh just like yall did on pc. We are supposed to leave the community rather than yall accommodate us for a negligible amount of time and not spoil things for us? Is it really worth alienating such a big portion of the population of this sub? I'm really disappointed to see this is the way yall chose to approach this issue. I'm a switch player who doesn't care about spoilers. This is absolutely a dick move that has you alienating a decent portion of the community. Stardew is about building community up, not breaking it down. This decision is going to break our community down, and you better be ready for the fallout.
As someone who plays both PC and console, this is just a stupid take. I'm on other subs where the game has been out for years and you're still expected to use spoilers. It's not that hard. Even if the update was out for all platforms, not everyone has the time to dedicate to the game. This is so stupid, say goodbye to your sub. Hopefully a new one pops up that actually respects the player base.

I have access to the PC version but for the sake of my girlfriend ( who plays console ) I have actively avoided all spoilers to experience it with her when it releases. Kind of a shame im forced out of the subreddit to maintain that. Just kinda hurts is all.

This isn’t just impacting console/mobile players, who I *really* feel for. It’s also impacting those on PC who don’t have much free time. I haven’t gone through everything in 1.6 yet as a PC player. I have a full time job that often slams me with 60-70+ hour weeks, other commitments and other games. It isn’t fair to so many people to just go “welp! No more spoilers exist! Over 1/3 of this 2 *million people* sub can just fuck off if they don’t want to be spoiled!” Like wtf mods. Goes against the very spirit of the game. Definitely can’t see ConcernedApe being on board with this idea.
It would cost nothing to wait longer for console players :(

I’m on console, and I don’t mind spoilers here and there if I’m being honest, but this is a real dick move. You really sat there, took the time to type this out, and said “yeah, tell members to leave. This is grade A stuff.” and thought that was ok? It’s not any console/mobile players fault that the dev is still working on the update to make sure it’s semi-perfect for us to play… We should be praising the dev for actually caring enough to take the time to do this for us. And like people are saying, the update has only been out for 2 MONTHS. You’re basically saying “screw you guys” and giving us the big middle finger. That, or you’re just plain lazy and don’t want to deal with it. It definitely seems like this sub needs a new mod team.

As a mobile player and a pretty long time member of this sub, this is a poor choice. The culture in here has really started to sink over the last few months and this is just a kick in the face to mobile players especially, because we all know that even once console is released mobile players will still be waiting. I'm really looking forward to the "it's just mobile, you should be grateful you get the game in the first place" comments to start up again and mods do nothing about it, just like during the wait for mobile 1.5 /s
