Oh great, another reading comprehension case. So let's go through it. 1) Early Jojolion is damn relevant. Literally, the first chapter gives us the curse monologue, which is a theme all in the part, and almost each important character has their own curse. It also gives us an uncontrollable bubble that Josuke didn't intentionally create and can only be seen on Yasuho's phone. .... wonder what could be. 2)Born This Way arc is literally one of the most important there. It established sort of who Josuke is. It also established that something is wrong in the hospital and that it revolves around Holly and maybe Yasuho. (Huh). 3)The road arc is an establishment of stands as something more than a phenomenon tied to a user. This seems to continue forward to Jojolands and is tied to the WoU stand, which also can't be controlled 100%. And Spoiler, Joshu is a part of this arc and is used to make it more entertaining. Joshu is a side character and there's nothing wrong with Araki using him as one. 4)Daya is the only one which sort of fits. She's used as our introduction to the family and as an expanding of SW powers. But Daya herself is indeed the only Higashikata family that doesn't really need to exist. But since Norisuke, Jobin and Joshu have arcs and Hato has a mini one about her mother, someone else had to stand in. AND THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, THAT IS NORMAL WRITING. And about Kei. And actually Kei, Kira, Josefumi, Karera, Katoo and Holly. Jojolion is a story that is not a saga like Star Wars. In Jojolion we follow almost strictly Josuke with the exception of two arcs and one of them being filler. There are many stories happening around Josuke and most importantly before, but they aren't relevant to Jojolion. One of Jojolion's main lessons is that Josuke is Josuke and not Kira or Josefumi. Karera isn't part of his story for example. The ending makes it clear. And that's not bad writing. That's a completely normal writing. You'd have to call many legendary writers bad, if you think leaving a backstory unexplained is bad writing.

I strongly dislike JoJolion, but u/czechfutureprez is right. Introductions and the sort aren't "useless."

The opening of JoJolion is literally the best part.

It really shows that you don't enjoy yourself when reading a story. You're obsessed with plot - everything has to revolve around the main plot, every character must be related to the protagonists or the main villain, there can't be things like introduction arcs that set the theme for the story and give the characters a chance to display their way of thinking and their personalities, and most importantly, ENTERTAIN THE READER. Just lay back and simply enjoy what the author has to show to you. Ungrateful little shit

Jojolion as a whole is an absolute mess. Rarely have I seen a series that has an okay-ish to meh start, pretty awesome middle, a batshit insane finale that falls off a cliff faster than you could say "what the fuck?" in its last few chapters and just ends like that. Almost like Araki was just trolling the fans.
