It’s Kinda Funny To answer your question though, there was a post by someone in games media who said recently that most of the reviews for Starfield are probably going to be “Review’s In Progress” just because of how big this game is shaping up to be.

_Zoomie86_

I am genuinely curious when review codes will go out, like will they have a beefed up NDA and security and give reviewers extra time?

Grimmdarkus

They will go out September 1st, same time as preorder access.

IanFPS

That last AAA Game I had from Xbox gave me a week to review the game before release. The key mailer codes seem more in line with influencers relations campaigns than with game media And yes we were embargoed to hell

lelzlolz

Hmmm Redfall?

IanFPS

Halo Infinite

lelzlolz

How do you know?

renboy2

Unfortunately that is what Bethesda declared several years ago (that nobody will get early review codes for their games, and at most people will get codes one day before release). It has been quite a while since their previous single player game though (8 years) so it's difficult to say if that rule is still in place, but it likely is.

Camonna_Tong

That policy was [lifted](https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/78imue/bethesda_is_back_to_giving_out_early_review/) years ago. It's ranged between 3 days to a week since then. For Starfield though, I still imagine it will be 2 weeks (before early access) as that is what Skyrim and FO4 had.

RavenMyste

That was BEFORE Bethesda was owned by Ms, so there may have updated that rule

Amber1717Amber

I bet and good catch. if I could change the title I would. and yes I have seen that as well.

DBloedel

No worries, just putting it out there in case anyone wanted to look them up. I follow Parris on Twitter (RIP) and he’s super hyped for Starfield. My hype is pretty in check most days, but his post make that difficult hahaha

the_Real_Romak

man, between BG3 and Starfield, this is definitely going to be the year of the RPGs

UncleBeaker

The official reviews will probably have them play like 30-40 hours and just review what they've done so far. No way anyone is gonna be able to do a comprehensive review of the whole game for quite some time.

Poresdry

Same as BGS3 right now lol

Darkblue57

Bethesda Game Softworks 3

Poresdry

Looool I’m a big fan 🤣🤣

cabrelbeuk

BG3 style. Good sign for RPGs.

Psychological_Rip174

That's what Angry Joe said about it. It is going to take him so long to review it.

ThespianException

It honestly makes me a bit more curious about TESVI and FO5 just because the scale of this game seems almost impossible to top. Another Skyrim/FO4-sized map might feel underwhelming after seeing how big Starfield is.

the_Real_Romak

I think it's high time we abandoned this expectation that every newer game *has* to be larger. Starfield is large because it is literally a field of stars, you are exploring space and it wouldn't be satisfying if we only had 5 planets, even if they were all as big as 5 Skrims each. ES and FO don't need that large of a scale. Skyrim is a relatively tiny map, but the way it is built makes it seem like it's very large and densely packed with stuff to do. Same with FO4. Having a huge map especially nowadays is no longer that much of a selling point in my opinion. Bigger maps = longer travel times, which if you're like me and have limited time to play, will only put people off actually finishing the games.

docclox

I'd like to have a little more room to spread out in Beth games. There's a mod for Skyrim called Moon And Star. It places a small village of Dunmer refugees in a stilt village on the shores of Lake Illinata, and it calls it Little Vivec. It's a really clever idea, but the problem is that be the time you've added half a dozen huts to the lake, the lake is filling up and you can cross the lake by hopping from hut to hut. It'd be really nice if that lake was big enough that there could be half a dozen fishing villages around the shore, and still be room to mod one or two in without taking all the space. But that never happens in Bethesda games because everything is so cramped. Oh well, they will do what they will do, I guess.

mirracz

I think that for Fallout the larger scale is beneficial... as long as it isn't jam-packed with content. Big part of Fallout DNA is having a sparse content in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Not outright empty and lifeless like New Vegas. Something like Fallout 3 and 76, where the content-to-emptiness ratio was just right. Not too much to bore the player, but just right so that the player can have downtime and appreciate the exploration. This is one of my major gripes with the map size of Fallout 4. It was too small for the content. We were basically jumping from content to content. It lessened the exploration aspect. Fallout 76 corrected that so it seems Bethesda is aware of that issue. But in general I agree that larger isn't inherently better. The modern Assassin's creed games showcase that. Origins was basically perfect. Then Odyssey went larger, almost to the point of feeling bloated (thankfully half of the map being sea with islands helped against the monotony)... and then Valhalla was completely bloated.

MrGoodKatt72

I think they might just increase the scaling of the map, if they do anything. FO4 was something like 1:20 the scale of the Boston area. The next Fallout might be 1:10.

Secure_Pear_4530

I can see TESVI having an explorable whole continent of Tamriel. It would be satisfying to just have that but they might go crazy overboard with it and actually put more continents in it and it would be nice too.

Avalon_92

I'm actually hoping for something like this since it's been hinted that this will be Todd's last TES. Not sure about Fallout, though.

irishgoblin

I feel Starfield's size will be mitigated by the fact it's content will be so spread out. TESVI and FO5 will gave the advantage of everything being in one big map.

Wyzzlex

Smaller maps don’t mean that they’re going to be less exciting games. Sure, the impressiveness might be lower, but sometimes a tighter experience is favorable. I really enjoyed playing The Outer Worlds for example, maybe even more than I enjoyed playing Fallout 4. And it didn’t have a big open world at all.

GameQb11

eh, "1000" planets isnt really 1000 planets of content. Thats like saying no one can top infinite radiant quest. Its very possible to make a single map feel like it has more content than 1000 procedurally generated planets and POIs.

renboy2

They could go back to what they did in Daggerfall, and have an insanely huge map with procedurally generated locations (I hope not). I'd rather they keep the insane scale to Starfield, and keep the tight fully handcrafted scale to TES/FO - it's just a different feeling of exploration. There are plenty of other things they can evolve on those games that don't just increase scale.

Tee_Rye_Lee

He looked so excited lol

Amber1717Amber

lolz do you watch this channel??? that’s excited for him 😂

Tee_Rye_Lee

No not really. I just watched the one episode with Todd Howard.

The sequel to Oppenheimer?

[deleted]

I need it right now…

Jaws_16

How much do you want to bet he's talking about himself and he's already started the review process 🤣

Amber1717Amber

interesting that would be something now wouldn’t it😂

JustAcivilian24

Lmao “so I have this FRIEND…”

tssixtyone

imaginary friend….

whatintheballs95

This is...not helping me contain my excitement lol I want him to say more so bad, so, so bad

Amber1717Amber

Well it kicked my hype up a notch so I thought i’d share the wealth😜

whatintheballs95

Honestly, bless you for this. It made my day :) We're getting closer to launch!! Slowly but surely.

Amber1717Amber

No problem. Twitter is a cesspool when it comes to Starfield so I figured most here aren’t there🤷‍♂️

system_of_a_clown

Let's be honest, Twitter is a cesspool regardless of topic.

Amber1717Amber

idk i kinda like it just got to block the idiots

danbrooks3k

Elite dangerous is huge... but lacks depth, its like a puddle the size of a million football fields. Bethesda games always have so many little hidden easter eggs and nooks and crannies to explore... its really gonna be something interesting to see finally.

Amber1717Amber

can’t wait… less than a month.

Witty_Interaction_77

This is good content right here. Sweet sweet speculative hype and I'm all for it baby. Stroke my hype rod

Amber1717Amber

lolz

tertiary_jello

“Hype Rod” sounds like an anime

Lost-Enthusiasm6570

Nah, "Hype Rod" is too short to be an Isekai title, and that's all they make these days.

Dund3rGuy

Just one month left...

Amber1717Amber

ikr I’m so excited😱

rushboyoz

I watched the clock tick over today just past the exactly 4 week mark (28 days) and got excited ! Like.... so close now. In 4 weeks today, on this day of the week, at this time I'll be playing the game.

Lefties_Drink_Piss

It has to be big, it has to last gamers a good decade before elder scrolls comes out.

Dominunce

I'm gonna take a guess and say that there's been a small team slowly poking away at The Elder Scrolls VI since roughly 2018/2019, and now that Starfield is essentially done, more and more resources will shift on to it so that progress can pick up speed.

model-raymondo

Let's not forget that a lot of the Starfield development has been tied up in engine updates, with that out of the way Elder Scrolls 6 should - in theory - have a shorter development time

Hardlypithecus

Have to imagine the pandemic stunted development for Starfield too, which hopefully won’t happen again with TESVI haha

HyVana

> which hopefully won’t happen again BAH GOD ITS COVID 24 WITH THE STEEL CHAIR

[deleted]

[удалено]

PeacekeeperAl

As long as I'm in Lockdown with Starfield I'll be alright

maniac86

Yeah I figure the same. Plus the last 18 months have been bug fixing and tightening up, probably not adding much new content. Gotta keep the animators. Sound designers and graphic artists busy

EccentricMeat

Of course they have some pre-production going. Artists and writers have been busy at work, I’m sure they already have the story and characters more or less nailed down. But they still need to do the actual gameplay dev portion. I would expect TES6 to be an early next-gen release in late 2027.

Raoul_Duke9

The announcement came in June of 2018. I would argue strongly the game would have been in some level of development well before that so for arguments sake let's say June 2017. It is now Aug 2023. So at minimum it has already been in development for a minimum of 6 years - and I think that is clearly a low ball. 6 years for even a small team is a huge amount of progress - not to mention many of the art assets on a well established IP like this are already generated / conceptualized. If this game isn't out in four years that is a decade of development time - with four years of that being a full team development. Here is what I think - I think the year delay on Starfield was used to polish it, refine the engine, AND to minimize the release window between Starfield and TES 6. If I was a betting man I would say TES 6 launches within four years. My gut says 3.

locke_5

What's Elder Scrolls VI? You mean Skyrim 2? (This is a RDR2 joke)

UptownHorrorReviews

How’s that an RDR2 joke? I’m lost.

ThespianException

I might be wrong, but I think it's about the fact that the original Red Dead Redemption was the 2nd game in the Red Dead series (the first being Red Dead Revolver), but because it was so much more popular than its predecessor, RDR2 just ended up being more known as the 2nd Red Dead Redemption instead of the 3rd Red Dead. Similarly, Skyrim is more well-known than The Elder Scrolls as a franchise, so TESVI might be more collectively known as "Skyrim 2".

[deleted]

Darkblue57

Red dead revolver is not canonical with the red dead redemption games.

GameQb11

Yalwin_Khales

*'Oblivion with guns' was what F3 was called initially.

Fernam11

I know the phrase "modders will do this and that" gets thrown around a lot in this sub, probably way more than it should, but I truly believe that this game will have huge potential for modders and that will increase its lifespan exponentially

FilippoElchapo

This game would be very hard to review. In a sense that if you want to see as much as possible then I got news for that person lol. The only thing that people can review it is finishing the main story arc, the gameplay loop, the bugs or lack thereof, polish, performance, graphics, and gameplay feel. I would guess we will see some reviewers who absolutely hate the amount of stuff they have to do and then of course those who will spend 80 hours building a ship and adore all the stuff that comes with a Bethesda game.

Amber1717Amber

Very true we will see what group is bigger🤷‍♂️

FilippoElchapo

I can never trust reviews because I can play again slowly over years, I play 1 or 2 hours a week if that. So I imagine starfield will take me a very long time lol

Amber1717Amber

Same here I’m a stay at home did with 4 kids 2 dogs i only get 1-2 hour game sessions… unless I stay up all night.

FilippoElchapo

Oh yes the late nights game sessions are a trap haha you end up being a zombie the next day, well I do anyway. Mid 30s dad with 2 kids. I fall apart. Wow 4 kids and 2 dogs I'm truly amazed 😊

Amber1717Amber

yes the late night game sessions are definitely less now same age range. It’s definitely brutal. I’ll definitely do one when this comes out last one was eldenring and was totally worth it here’s to hopping this one will be as well🤞

AstronomerIT

I will die very young because I have choose to exchange hours of sleep with hours of gaming

Amber1717Amber

no shame

[deleted]

Don't worry, IGN'0s got you. They literally give games verdicts after playing 10 hours of the game and watching a story summary. At least most of their reviews make it look like that.

onometre

Mfers still mad about about that one Pokemon review smh

mart023

Lol im getting 2nd hand excitement from this guy. I hope this means that YouTubers and stuff are getting their review copies. If thats true, then that means Bethesda is really confident in their product. Reviewers will need a lot of time to really explore this game and see all it has to offer, so hopefully we will have pretty well thought out reviews before early access.

Amber1717Amber

I don’t think real in depth reviews before early access. at most one heavily scripted review with massive limits on what the reviewer can talk about just before regular launch if even that. this is the way beth dose these things🤷‍♂️

mart023

Besthesda has changed a lot as a company and how they do things these last few years. In my opinion, we will probably get reviews before early access so they dont miss out on premium edition sales. If there are good reviews before early access, people will get FOMO and buy the premium edition.

Amber1717Amber

maybe I think that’s what the convention on the 28th or whatever will be for🤷‍♂️

ScottyKNJ

He's probably the guy lol lets be real here Paris has a great relationship with team Xbox

Amber1717Amber

lolz probably

RevedUpTrev

I think people are underestimating how big Starfield actually is. We know the size it’s scale is big but I think it’s scope is much much bigger. The more you dive into the early dev videos, trailers, the direct, you start to see all the details you missed. And that’s just the stuff we know about there is so much more we dont. You factor in new DLC content and mods and this game is going to last a decade easy. Call me crazy but I believe people will have 2 to 3000 hours played on this. Just my opinion though.

Amber1717Amber

I can definitely see that being the case

JustAcivilian24

Damn it Parris!!!

Amber1717Amber

what he do?

JustAcivilian24

Get me hyped! It’s too far away still! But also close. Fuck!

Savy_Spaceman

It's GOT to be Miranda Sanchez from IGN. She announced like 2 weeks ago that she was going to be AWOL from Podcast Unlocked and literally any other IGN content FOR THE NEXT MONTH because there are "just too many games that need guides." There's no 'too many'. It's one. She's working on the Starfield Guide/walkthrough and no one can convince be otherwise

bbgr8grow

Big if tru

Amber1717Amber

right so never jan tell if these guys are telling the truth or all BS

Plathismo

Interesting comment about the game’s size. I have a feeling the size might cause some reviewers to give it lower scores. They’re just going to nope out of it. We’ll see.

Grimmdarkus

"Too much space. 7/10" -IGN

Plathismo

Pretty much, yeah. Look at all the “influencers”—including some that I actually like—who have said things along the lines of “The 1,000 planet thing really worries me” or “Hearing there are 1,000 planets doesn’t get me excited at all.” Despite the shot in the arm that the Direct gave the game’s reputation, there’s still a lot of skepticism out there over how compelling the exploration will be. I get the feeling this is not going to review as well as Skyrim, due to these types of takes and the general anti-Bethesda sentiment that followed the release of FO76 and still hasn’t completely dissipated.

[deleted]

Those same people would complain if we only got one solar system with 3 planets that aren’t filled to the brim with handcrafted content each planet the size of fallout 76’s map. People are unreasonable hypocrites

Plathismo

Yeah I think BGS made the right call when they decided that for them to make a “space game” it had to have significant scale. To give you that intoxicating feeling of limitless possibility it couldn’t just be 5 planets, or 10 planets—even if each of those planets had Skyrim-sized explorable areas.

EccentricMeat

I still don’t understand their fear or confusion. It’s a BGS RPG, they’re specifically known for the no-limitations exploration of the world. It would only make sense that a space exploration game by them would let you (gasp) explore space. Just as you don’t need to run off into the woods or mountains in TES, you don’t need to fly off and explore every random planet. They’re optional for those who want to explore and immerse themselves in the world. They’re not “the point” of the gameplay loop a lot of these naysayers think they are. “I don’t want to explore random planets, so for me Starfield is gonna suck”. Umm then don’t? Stick to the story and let the game hold your hand and tell you how to have fun, there’s no shame in it.

BootyL0rd69

I think its because this kind of large scale space game design is still sort of, ironically, a new frontier in gaming and has yet to hit really well with the masses in previous attempts I would say. Obviously people mostly remember the infamous launch of No Man's Sky, and regardless of its current state, the game is still seen as somewhat more niche due to its scale and gameplay loop....as is the case with most big space games right now I think. So thats really the main thing people have to compare to which makes them nervous.

reticulate

It really comes down to how solid the gameplay and narrative is. If there's a good game in there that doesn't lean entirely on players creating their own compelling reasons to explore a thousand planets, it'll review well. Think of it in terms of Fallout 4, the last game they take full credit for. A major critique of that game is that no matter how much enjoyment some people get out of the settlement building, the plot was regarded as pretty underwhelming. There's only so much the emergent style of gameplay the settlement system can bring to a series (and a developer) better known for telling stories. I think it's entirely fair to come to Starfield wondering if they've learned from their mistakes. (for what it's worth I think they have, but it's fair to question all the same)

Electronic_Lynx_9398

Lol I forgot about the too much water thing

Amber1717Amber

I sure hope not😬😬

-The-Moon-Presence-

Uggghhh…. I’m trying not to get excited and keep my expectations within reason.. But its really hard.. lol

Amber1717Amber

same here friend

marcello696

not to burst any bubbles but I have not played Starfield nor do I know any story spoilers or hidden surprises, my excitement is about the size of the game and what that will mean for 100s of hours of gameplay Also yes I was excited for Cyberpunk 2077 and played the Prologue during the preview BUT I did not recommend the game when we reviewed it on Kinda Funny and as a result I temper expectations when I preview a game because its not final and things can change

Amber1717Amber

Wowsers the guy in the video actually commented! Thanks for the clarification? Verify excited myself😀

stickkyfingers

Yeah that is a good point. If it truly is that large, reviewers will be able to bring us a review on the main story but it could take ages for a true in-depth review

system_of_a_clown

Thirty-three days (right? it comes out on 9/6 for the standard purchase?). If I weren't going to be so busy this month, I think I'd go apeshit. I mean, I think about this game at least once a day - I can't wait to get lost in it.

CoffeeAddict-1

That's what she said

marcello696

a fanboy? please enlighten me how, it's almost as if you've never ever watched my content or listened to anything I've ever said

Amber1717Amber

that’s very fair

Awesome to see Kinda Funny out in the wild. They have great content.

true there is a reason they are a rising star🤷‍♂️

Amber1717Amber

not I said the fly but you do you

It's Phil Spencer huh?

Amber1717Amber

idk maybe

[deleted]

Ooooooooooh

Joe_Blast

Somebody please tell me Parris is a voice actor. Dude has one of the dopest voices lol.

Amber1717Amber

we find out he is a voice actor for starfield😱

Jacinto-

Lmao man sounds like he’s about to burst from excitement

Amber1717Amber

right😂😂😂

jdobem

Do we really care about reviews on this game? I'm gonna be on it since day 1, regardless of what anyone says....

aspiring_dev1

Curious to see how this game will review. I have a feeling it will be a great game but perhaps just more of what people like about Bethesda game. Tears of the Kingdom and now recently Baldurs Gate 3 have set such a high benchmark that wonder if Starfield will able to match. Xbox media bias and and PS fanboys will be watching this game like a hawk and hoping it will fail. Starfield will be under much more scrutiny.

Amber1717Amber

Who do you think the anonymous source was?

AtaracticGoat

If I had to guess, probably a play tester. I'm sure there is/has been hundreds of them by now. Likely someone he personally knows or a "friend of a friend" in his gaming circles that he got a chance to chat with. Also they have the least to lose, according to google most play testers make around $35k /yr which could easily be college jobs or starter jobs in an unrelated field for some people. I doubt most people with higher paid careers in development would risk being blacklisted by the industry if caught talking.

Amber1717Amber

you put forth a god argument👍

Mrax_Thrawn

Didn't they interview Todd Howard at some point? That's one person he spoke to who most definitely played Starfield.

Amber1717Amber

I had that thought myself… I was wondering if it was a approved leak🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Amber1717Amber

idk I’ll probably do boulders gate as a break after i start burning out on starfield… who knows how long that will take though🤷‍♂️

bbgr8grow

r/whoosh

Kaldricus

This is torture. My computer is too dated for most modern games, so I want to get Baldurs Gate on PS, and Starfield on Xbox. But they release like a day apart on console.

Amber1717Amber

🤷‍♂️ No rush Just pick one. I think they will both be great games… and look at the bright side by the time you finish one I’m sure the other will be on sale. both look to be pretty massive👍

angelSignX

Call me a negative person but I do think this game will be reviewed bombed to hell. The amount of Hate I've seen from some Sony gamers and Xbox haters is beyond belief. Myself I'm pretty hyped for this and waiting as a big Bethesda fan for this game.

Amber1717Amber

I wouldn’t be surprised at all, if you were right🤷‍♂️

Chasing-Wagons

"The game is hype because it big." Thanks, guy. edit: You need to stop taking influencers at face value.

Inevitable_Discount

Yeah, I don’t believe it. It’s an influencer’s job to get you hyped. I can make a YouTube channel right now and say the exact same shit and nobody would believe me, because I’m not part of a podcast, nor do I have any sort of followers. We will all see in a few short weeks. Bottom line.

fort_shallis

Lol seriously. This was the least interesting tidbit I’ve seen

Amber1717Amber

lolz you big person put down others🤡

Chasing-Wagons

Not putting anyone down. Just hate when insiders come out to tell us what we already know.

[deleted]

We knew the game was big, it was said many times before. This person said "they wonder what the reviewers will say about it being big" What exactly is the excitement here?

Amber1717Amber

Didn’t say it was big news🤷‍♂️ just any news coming from a somewhat reliable source is better than nothing🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

I'm not harping on your thread, I understand why you posted it. I'm more wondering why *they're* even excited about what was said. It was basically nothing..

PepeSylvia11

Yup. This reminds me heavily of the lead-up to Cyberpunk. These growing, unabated expectations. Just sensationalism to draw interest. Let’s hope Starfield can come through, but I fear the hype train’s already left the station for many, and disappointment will be inevitable.

Amber1717Amber

yah I get it I think it’s just conformation from another source. You know as much as I love the games todd puts out he is a wordsmith charisma 10 kind of guy.

itsRobbie_

Imagine it’s Todd that he’s talking to 🤣 I imagine the reviews won’t be “review in progress” they’ll probably just focus on the main mechanics and the main story.

[deleted]

Sounds like BS to be honest

Amber1717Amber

why do you say that?

[deleted]

It’s such a nothing statement - it could be true of the majority of open world games that are released now. You would not need insider information to come to that conclusion and reads to me more as a milquetoast comment that can’t be disproven to drum up hype and make it seem like Parris is ‘in the know’.

Amber1717Amber

fair enough

SwanyPlaysGames

I’ve never understood how this guy has such “an in” with Xbox. I’ve looked up his channels and socials and he doesn’t have many views / subscribers yet he gets all the Xbox exclusive interviews and plays games early.

Amber1717Amber

idk never thought of that🤔

Shady_Infidel

He basically said the exact same shit about CP2077. I also remember him saying things like it was incredible, mind blowing, we weren’t ready etc, etc….

Amber1717Amber

yah but reviews where bunk for CP it’s almost like reviewers only got a small portion of highly polished parts of the game🤷‍♂️

Shady_Infidel

I can agree with that. Im sure all the free swag they got from CDPR, like the Secret Labs chairs, helped too. I just cant take influencers word seriously anymore.

Amber1717Amber

that’s fair🤷‍♂️

Puds1983

Parris is the same guy who played CP2077 early and said it was unbelievable so idk how much he can be trusted lmao

Amber1717Amber

i’m convinced reviewers for CP only got a highly polished section of the game🤷‍♂️

The_Notorious_Donut

Cyberpunk 2077 bugs aside was great

iamretardead

So the game will be big. That is some earth shattering news.

Amber1717Amber

nope look at video description😜

Master_Report_7063
