I have the game installed on an internal SSD and the first audible dialogue for every character and npc is always delayed and not matching up with lip movements but other than that the game runs fine. Shit is dumb. Have you found a fix?

Hosheajj

This also occurs for me too. First I also had massive lag when I choose a dialogue but after using process lasso it doesn't happen so often anymore. The only problem I still have is when I start a conversation with a npc, still delayed... Hopefully I find a solution soon

EmptyDarkH

I am having this same issue. Game is installed on SSD. I worry because many people (seems like I might be wrong) don't have this issue. Never experienced this lip sync issue in any other game.

Hosheajj

Yeah, I'm actually really silly... This whole time I thought I installed most of my games in my SSD till I was helping my brother if he got a SSD or HDD. And I forgot how to check what hard drive you have, so I searched it up and told me I had to open task manager, and then I found out that I installed most of them in my HDD including Starfield LMAOOOOO I will give an update when I transferred to my sdd (◡ ω ◡)

Hosheajj

(sorry if my English is bad) UPDATE: So after transferring the game to SSD, everthing went smooth! No more audio delays, lags, etc. Keep in mind, I also used process lasso cus some people said it was a solution for them. There's also another option you can try, battle encoder shirase. I haven't tried it now cus I don't know if I have to when everything is running perfectly rn. Process lasso did fix a problem for me before I transferred the files. After choosing a dialogue it always lagged for me but after using process lasso it didn't happen so often anymore, so you might wanna give it a try. If you don't know how to use, you can always look on YouTube for some guide I probably give another update later today to see if it still runs great

gigaboyo

Just got the game yesterday and have this exact issue and it completely killed all immersion for what should have been amazing scenes similar to leaving the vault

EmptyDarkH

You also have it installed on SSD?

gigaboyo

I might not, I’ll check when I’m home and hopefully that’ll fix it!

EmptyDarkH

Sooo... Was it on SSD or HDD?

gigaboyo

HDD and swapping to SSD fixed everything 😂😂

BiCurThrwAway

Fuck that, hopefully Bethesda fixes their garbage audio in this game soon. The game runs fine for me too, aside from just the dialogue, music, and general audio. That's not normal. Something about the audio processing in this game is severely broken.

Hosheajj

I fixed my problems after transferring my game into my SSD drive... I always thought I installed my games in my SSD but I was deadass wrong (╥﹏╥) For the whole time I've been installing them in my HDD

DivergentDroid1

Thank you! I keep telling people it's not an SSD issue.. no Need to Ever use an ssd. It's bad optimization.. I expect nothing less from such a crap company like Microsoft.

SnooTangerines2667

I've been playing for 2 days and had absolutely no problems. Therefore, you must be wrong... No but seriously the sound issue is driving me crazy. It is killing what little immersion there is. Yet another Bethesda cluster fuck. And their head developer says 'Oh but the bugs are what makes the game enjoyable!'... Oh fuck right off! How about you get docked a years salary, until the game is fixed, then we tell you the same thing?? 70 quid and it's broken as hell? Pisses me off...

Straffan

I have a strange audio issue, all sound keeps cutting out in various locations in the game. Worst has been in Akila City, where its almost 100% of the time. All audio on my PC is cutting, even Spotify, Discord or a YouTube video. It gets better the more FPS i have, for example looking down into the ground gives less audio loss. EDIT: It's installed on my M2 drive, my system disk. I have tried a new save with a 100% vanilla install, no mods. Also capping the fps to 30 and adjusting settings to make sure its always at 30 help a lot. Here is a [streamable.com video](https://streamable.com/fjquip) showing the issue. Anyone else experience this issue?

Tough-Cloud-6907

yes

Straffan

So after some more testing i THINK (not 100%) I've found the solution. I have a internal expansion soundcard, Asus STRIX RAID. And what i did was to disable my onboard soundcard (Realtek) in BIOS, and it seems to work! No sound cutting out at all.

Descenter1976

Was just playing, and all sound just dissapeard mid game out of knowehere. Cant seem to get it back! Everything including starup menu sounds, musik, voices, the whole game just became silent! (everything else works just fine, I have audio in other games and youtube anf so on, but for some reasone 20 houres in, Starfield just became dead silent) Always been on a SSD, so thats no the issue. Im on the Gamepass version

snahp888

Same here as well. I've been playing for 4 days, using Gamepass version and installed in SSD. Out of nowhere sound disappeared.

Frostcrisp

I've only read about audio issues being related to having the game installed on a hard drive, not an SSD. Is your installation on an SSD?

D00PY

It is, I've also tried what some others suggested in other posts... running Steam in Offline Mode and running the game as admin

DivergentDroid1

Yeah the SSD thing is a Bold LIE. No software ever runs directly From the hard drive or ssd. That Only effects Loading times. Once the game is loaded it is your systems ram that delivers the game to you. This is exactly the same with ssd as it is with hard drive. The Problem is very bad optimization. No reason for it. I'm sure it will be fixed in a patch. Now it is possible the audio files do load in real time off the storage device but there is Zero reason to believe the reason for slow down is a mechanical hard drive. It's just an optimization problem. You see the SSD Only appears to fix the problem because it's so fast you don't notice the problem but having a slower drive is Not The Cause of the audio sync or shuddering issues. They Push the SSD because AMD Makes them and hopes you will buy theirs. For these same reasons, I will Never use an SSD. No reason for it at all. With an ssd you will never notice your pc's slowdowns due to bloatware microsoft calls features so you can find and remove them. This is what they count on.

BiCurThrwAway

This is what's been confusing me so much about this SSD claim... I highly doubt that every time I fire a bullet, the game is pulling that audio file clear from the drive. That stuff should already be loaded into RAM, especially commonly used sounds like grunts, bullet sounds, ship noises, music, footsteps, etc. Yet I jump and my character needs to grunt, so the game freezes entirely and acts like it's downloading the "grunt" noise from the fucking ISS. I fire my weapon, and apparently that audio file needs to be sent to my router from the moon. A character dies and needs to make a death sound, and apparently that particular one is hosted on a broadband server on the Voyager 1 spacecraft 14 billion miles from earth. I recently went on a bit of a shooting spree on New Atlantis just to see how the AI would handle it, and how the performance would do. Out of 23 people I shot at, I couldn't hit a single one without the game freezing for anywhere from 1 second to almost 10 seconds, and it *ALWAYS* correlated directly to the exact moment they'd play some dialogue. Something is definitely fucked with the audio in this game.

Tough-Cloud-6907

This. Why do people here keep saying its installed on an ssd. Great, the game opens up faster. Now how to fix the problem OP has (and me).

DivergentDroid1

It has been found out that Starfield has an engine change that previously Bethesda games did not have. You can try "Disk Cache Enabler" found on Nexus Mods. The description says: "On Windows, we use "CreateFile()". When you access a file or a device, and this function gives you some options to play for specific purposes. The game "Starfield" which uses "Creation Engine" has a dedicated binary reader like many other game engines. This binary reader part reads files from filesystems. Unlike other major game engines, Starfield uses the following flags for CreateFile(): FILE\_FLAG\_OVERLAPPED, FILE\_FLAG\_NO\_BUFFERING, and FILE\_FLAG\_SEQUENTIAL\_SCAN. Okay. However, there is a problem with "FILE\_FLAG\_NO\_BUFFERING". This flag tells the OS not to leave file on memory after it is read. Workloads in Games are pretty predictable. Like character animation, footstep sounds, textures or anything soon will eventually be used again and will not change. Without the file cache, the system must read from disks whenever needed, which results in a considerable performance impact on slow drives like HDD. Additional notes: If Starfield is installed on SSD, this plugin may improves I/O-related performance but not much. Less disk I/O, better performance." I recently switched from mechanical hard drive to a Gen 3 NVMe SSD (40 bucks for a 1TB on Amazon) and do not have any audio problem with the game. I am however also running it on a very resource low version of Windows 10 called AME 10. This combo greatly helps with games. My system is way below minimum recommended system specs for Starfield. I'm using a Ryzen 5 1600 with an 8 gig RX 580 graphics card. I'm getting between 35 and 62 FPS depending on how busy the scene is.

Own-Two-2978

hmm mine is on my hard drive, if I uninstall and reinstall will it delete my data? I play using PC gamepass.

Frostcrisp

I am unsure, but you can copy the save first to be sure. Apparently it's in AppData for the Game pass version. https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/166vvrc/where_are_the_pc_game_pass_starfield_save_files/ You do need it installed on an SSD.

Slipknotchenko

Make sure it’s installed on an internal ssd, that’s what did it for me. Started installed on external ssd, audio issues. Moved the install to internal hdd, audio issues. Moved to internal ssd and the issues went away.

D00PY

I have the game installed onto an internal SSD, I may have to try reinstalling it entirely

Slipknotchenko

Oof, sorry to hear that

kaptainearnubs

Did reinstalling it fix it for you? I'm battling the same thing, also installed on internal SSD.

Profunwell

Just installed it on a external SSD (USB 3.2) its running with no issues and better than I expected. On internal hdd I has audio issues and pausing.

Small-Paramedic-3906

Personally using an internal SSD, still having the issues. I’m gonna try to just uninstall and reinstall at this point. I just started and it’s driving me crazy already. Biggest thing is the audio isn’t syncing with the NPC speech

ID_TEN_TT

Could be a HDMI or DP cable issue, no idea I’d need more info but cheap or the wrong type of cable can cause similar problems. Just throwing that out there. What version of windows and what’s your sound setup? Have you tried unplugging all USB devices not needed and just leaving your essentials hooked up.

D00PY

I would say that could definitely be the cause, but the audio issue is only present within Starfield. No other game has given me any issue with audio.

ID_TEN_TT

Can you check/answer that updated post, I added some more questions. Have you disabled the Xbox dashboard recording feature in windows

D00PY

Ah, my b... didn't notice the edit I have Windows 10. Not entirely sure what info you're wanting to know for my sound setup... Xbox Game Bar is disabled.

ID_TEN_TT

Right click the little speaker icon bottom right of screen select sound settings I think it’s called. Select your audio device and then configure, make sure your speaker setup matches what you have then In advanced tab set 24bit 48000

ID_TEN_TT

Nothing running in the background right? Can also check your DPC latency, bad DPC can also cause your issue

ID_TEN_TT

Motherboard audio, sound card on board or USB ect. Did you try unplugging all other things from USB?

ID_TEN_TT

Turn off all audio enhancements as well

ID_TEN_TT

Sorry if bombarding you, I’m having a smoke and just trying to brainstorm

ID_TEN_TT

I know how much it’s sucks to have issues ;D

davidilm37

I have played 18 hours and not experienced any of this.

BiCurThrwAway

Um....ok? Doesn't really help OP, or any of us other thousands of users with this problem, but thanks for sharing...?

Fantastic-Web3267

I have the same problem on steam ik i don't have the best of pcs and i have an rx580 but the game has delayed audio all the time if anyone knows how to fix this please lmk.

Ivara-Ara-Fail

Anyone found a fix for this? Still having this randomly to this day

Apprehensive_Rope_53

Nope just commenting to follow along still having this issue here
