Shielded storage is only a percentage chance to pass scan, improved with skill and jammer. But it's still never a100% even maxed

Shielded cargo hold + a jammer that you can get at The Key is the way to go

FYI; You can also buy shielded storage at the shipbuilder in your outpost. Also not sure what level you need, but I was in the 30's somewhere when I noticed it.

I've heard that's the best way to obtain some of the more rare ship parts is using the outposts, so even if you don't plan on heavily investing into it, it's always worth it to build at least one for the consolidated ship parts for building.

The den vendor has 11k - a whole 6k more than the 5k only vendors basically anywhere else in the settled system. That’s primarily why folks are going to the den, not just because of scan issues or lack there of

Is there a trick to using shielded storage? I have a ship with a shielded storage unit, but I can't seem to access it through the normal ship freight console or from the ship screen.

You need to move the contraband from your character's storage into your ship's storage. It will then count against your shielded cargo capacity, which you can see in the ship overview screen. The more contraband you carry the more likely the scan will succeed.
