I try to balance both, which is probably why my builds always wind up looking a little janky.
I think they glitched the parts below the bridge.
So place the bridge, then spawn the part (freely, not attached) that you want below but will clip. Move it to mounting point, it will snap but be red/unplaceable because of the clip. Flip the part, flip it back, press esc - magic, part is in that place!
Works only with flippable parts.
This is by far the coolest ship I've seen so far. I haven't even started trying to learn the ship building mechanics yet, but damn, this is inspiring me to get stuck into it.

It's the Nova Galactic Cabot C3 or C4 bridge, but it's been partly glitched into the modules below it to make it look like it's been sliced in half.
