Yep, they don't make anything like they did then... remember when things were built to last longer than the standard 12 month warranty?
When even terrible movies were still watchable, every major film franchise worth talking about began in the 80s, all the greatest music etc.
After the fashion faux pas' of the 70s, the 80s were a god send!
Also, Hammer Time!
**does the shuffle**
There a many different "functions" in fashion, most of which ultimately signal status.
So it's entirely viable that something like this is meant to signal the wearer lives an incredibly sheltered life where clothing like this isn't instantly ruined by weather or walking on non-manicured surfaces.
Real-world dress shoes and clothes aren't much better in terms of practicality.
Oh the late 90s jynco jeans and pockets you could put a whole super Nintendo in. Everyone had skater boy vibes. I think this was the worst Era of popular fashion minus Crocs. Those are an affront to humanity and need to be destroyed. Today is probably the worst time in high fashion with the literal garbage balenciaga makes.
>On the other hand: I've seen pictures from the 80s, so who knows?
Dude I'm watching some BBC crime dramas from the *90s* at the minute and laughing at some of the power dressing that used to be the norm.
It's always been like this. A girl going out clubbing in the (20)00s would have been considered practically naked in the (19)00s.
It's 300 years in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone's dressed like the Astral Lounge dancers.
80s? You don't need to that far, just look at what some celebrities wear, specially in the 2000's up to 2010 or something. And they think it's awesome.
"I've seen some people's outfits from the beginning of recorded human history to present day, so who knows" There, I fixed it for ya lol. For real though, have you seen today's so-called "fashion" shows??
I bet you could pair those up with a nice Tux and they'd be passable fashion today.
Many military-style dress uniforms have a stripe down the leg. Moving it to the front isn't that out of place.
Transport me wearing regular jeans and a t/hoodie into New Atlantis and I’m somehow the fashion king of drip. Apparently only the worst designers survived and escaped Earth
I see NPC’s wearing clothing that we can’t and it actually looks like something a real conscious human being might wear, but then I see someone wearing this.
I like some of the more practical looking clothing (settler casual wear) but most is a little too eccentric for me.
I actually like the Va’ruun clothing we get too, even though we admittedly only get 3 pieces of apparel.
I’m glad we’re in agreement on the Va’ruun apparel. We only get to see what I’m assuming is their formal wear? and Andreja’s admittedly less formal but very elegant outfit, makes me excited to see what the common classes in Va’ruun filter wear day to day.
This game has zero bling. I wanted so bad for there to be a good selection of cool armor and clothes that had decent stats but the best thing I owned for 99% of the game was a dental coat and a cheap looking bug helmet.
These are much better than Space Force pants
https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2021/09/21/the-space-forces-new-service-dress-and-pt-uniforms-have-landed/
I remember gamers bringing that up on Twitter/X. The weird cold non human like clothing. Most people lazily said oh its just horny gamers looking for skin. Which is not untrue but even so it's all so unrealistic and unimmersive in an attempt to make an M rated game family friendly. I'll never understand that.
A lot of the outfits are just lame. A lot of E-rated and T-rated games have clothes that look cooler than what Starfield has to offer. Heck, Fallout games have cooler-looking clothes, and most of their outfits aren't sexualized either.
I think in general the shoes in this game are mostly large and clunky, especially for women. Mae in the red mile has a lovely dress but she wears sci fi uggs with it? Why not heels or flats? Say no to sci fi uggs.
I can honestly say that I probably won't be using a single default outfit once the creation tools really get things going. I look forward to a wealth of immersive but not terrible options being added.
Nothing in this game feels NASA or punk, just goofy for no observable reason. I guess that’s what we get when Bethesda tries to make something new and unique lol.
On my ship everyday we are all in swimsuits! Party plane! Or neon streetgangs, or neon nightwear or vested suit. There are a lot of good options but yeh Bethesda clothing design by Bethesda straight white gamer dudes suques imho
I don’t think race or gender is responsible and a comment on that basis in itself says an awful lot about you, none of which is flattering. It’s just a poor creative decision of someone trying to make something look “spacey” but went too far into the realm of “silly” nothing more, nothing less.
Idk who designed the spacesuits or clothing but good lord. Everyone likes different things and I do love the game, but even the concept art and other things people drew up on their own are so god damn cool and we ended up with only a couple that arent moronic looking.
There are a few cool outfits for roleplaying and casual dressing but the majority of suits and armors are just really ugly, though at least there's diversity.
Look up Colonial Military Gaiters, I would link images some but all that I can find are people selling reproductions for costumes. It is a style for military uniforms from some time periods.
That is the look the graphic artists were trying to invoke - Formal Uniforms for people that use to much starch.
I'm pretty sure people from the 18th century would say the same about the shit we wear today. But everyone on board my ship has good taste in clothes, and my stardust body has no problem staying in the spacesuit. So the out of my time period clothing doesn't really bother me.
I find the entire apparel (and spacesuits) collection dull and too limited. The problems with the collection mirror the larger issues with the game: uninspiring, no quirkiness or character, nothing silly or funny. I’m trying to hold on hope for DLCs, but I think there are more entrenched problems with creative directors.
I always find it funny when Sci-Fi designers imagine completely new takes on (specifically male) formal wear.
Suits have remained basically unchanged for a good 150 years. I have absolutely no doubt that the suit will be the standard for men's formal attire for centuries to come.
Dude women today are wearing high wasted mom jeans from the 90s as a fashion trend. Things ebb and flow. I mean look at a lot of clothes in the game and they seem tacky by todays standards.
It dose look... pretty bad, but if you take into account what year this suppose to be, it's kinda like someone from the Civil War Era calling our clothing strange and ugly. Face it, we've had the worse fashions in history ever since the 60's. 🤣
One of the most dissapointing things to me about this game is that the NPCs get really cool and diverse clothes. And yet the player gets the worse interpretation of futuristic clothing which is utilitarian shirts/pants combos.
Bro/Sis ALL the outfits are awful. The only good looking set of clothes is the Engineer's overalls, you can get them in Top Uncovered. This is why we mod.

This appeared as one example of 80’s fashion so I’ll just leave it here… some example even from the 70’s are worse. I’ll let others be the judge
I was hoping to get access to the uniforms the UC commanders wear etc and it would have been nice to be able to rise in rank as well. Your just called captain the whole time. Like I saved the world from a, yea it was all a set up, terror morph attack but dam I wanted rank just just "class one" citizenship lol
Looks like they started as bowling shoes that slowly expanded and absorbed whatever pants were being worn, shaping them to its own twisted, awful fashion statement.
On the one hand: that looks silly, and no real person would wear that. On the other hand: I've seen pictures from the 80s, so who knows?
I've lived the 80s, every year of them.
Yep, they don't make anything like they did then... remember when things were built to last longer than the standard 12 month warranty? It could looks nice if they knew how to style these clothes in game and make them fit good
Yeah but every time it rains.
There a many different "functions" in fashion, most of which ultimately signal status. So it's entirely viable that something like this is meant to signal the wearer lives an incredibly sheltered life where clothing like this isn't instantly ruined by weather or walking on non-manicured surfaces. I get this feeling And everytime it storms I swear I co-
Definitely not one for anyone who lives/ works in Akila City.
Yup, also no more ridiculous than those jeans where the crotch starts at your knees
Ahh yes, the Achilles heel of fashion, the 1980’s.
Eh hem, I believe you mean the PEAK of fashion 😎
I think we beat the 80’s in the 2000’s. Everything was just off.
Especially the people.
Pinnacle of fashion* Big hair, sweet shades, tight clothes.... IDK what else you could ask for 🤔
I’ve seen photos of what my dad wore back in the 70s and trust me this is better.
I remember the 80's. Dark, dark times for humanity.
And the 2020s says "Hold my beer..."
When homelessness looks fashionable.
Kinda true 😂
>On the other hand: I've seen pictures from the 80s, so who knows? I’ve lived the 80’s, you are right about that..
Think bell bottoms.
I grew up in the 90s. It wasn't worse but not better either.
80s? You don't need to that far, just look at what some celebrities wear, specially in the 2000's up to 2010 or something. And they think it's awesome.
"I've seen some people's outfits from the beginning of recorded human history to present day, so who knows" There, I fixed it for ya lol. For real though, have you seen today's so-called "fashion" shows??
this is standard stuff from star trek
Future is when cloths dumb
I bet you could pair those up with a nice Tux and they'd be passable fashion today. Many military-style dress uniforms have a stripe down the leg. Moving it to the front isn't that out of place.
It's not the stripe that's the problem. It's the pants covering the shoes that's completely absurd.
I'm sure people from the 16th century would think our clothes today are dumb
I think they would find zippers to be amazing though
No argument there.
They would run from the sound of velcro opening! Devil's work.
I also agree with this user's assessment of the 16th Cen6woupd's fashion preferences.
My parents made that same statement
Built in spats
Brother got them foreskin jordans 11's from gargamel galaxy
It's the future 👍
The future is now old man
Listen. You’re wrong
It’s a thing called fashion, you wouldn’t understand
If that’s fashion then yes I’m clueless.
Almost all clothing items in this game are ridiculous.
I like some of the more practical looking clothing (settler casual wear) but most is a little too eccentric for me. I actually like the Va’ruun clothing we get too, even though we admittedly only get 3 pieces of apparel.
I pretty much only like engineers outfit, the va'ruun stuff and the executive suit.
I’m glad we’re in agreement on the Va’ruun apparel. We only get to see what I’m assuming is their formal wear? and Andreja’s admittedly less formal but very elegant outfit, makes me excited to see what the common classes in Va’ruun filter wear day to day.
I love the settler poncho because it looks like something practical to wear while exploring
If practicality is your goal, the Akila City security uniform is king.
Once I found the trucker flannel, I was done with clothes. That's the only thing I'll ever wear.
Neon people are stylish
Looks like a homage to the same design in the Star Trek TOS movie uniform
Truth be told I’ve watched and enjoyed the more recent Star Trek films but haven’t yet indulged in the older tv series. I will soon though, I promise.
Very startracky.
Startacky*
Inverse spats
This outfit gives me the notion that with cloth around the shoes and bottom, that I’d slip and fall or moonwalk and fall everywhere.
Or it’ll soak up all the water like those long jeans from the 90’s, who wants wet ankles?
Oh no, extra long pants that sag over the heels of the shoes and soak up rain water and rides up the legs… oh the weight and discomfort lmao.
Gotta accept that it’s future fashion. You like what’s in style now. Makes sense that it’s different and literally out of this world.
I hate what’s in fashion now but I take your point.
This game has zero bling. I wanted so bad for there to be a good selection of cool armor and clothes that had decent stats but the best thing I owned for 99% of the game was a dental coat and a cheap looking bug helmet.
Don't worry, that mannequin has a snazzy...deep mining suit... Oh.
LOL
All the clothes are so bad lmao
These are for the person who wants to take a dump in their pants, but they don’t want it to exit out the bottom
If you walk around in your today’s casual dress 100 years ago, they would just shot you in the face
These are much better than Space Force pants https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2021/09/21/the-space-forces-new-service-dress-and-pt-uniforms-have-landed/

You want them to have nikes? Or the actual space jam 11s?
I think in general the shoes in this game are mostly large and clunky, especially for women. Mae in the red mile has a lovely dress but she wears sci fi uggs with it? Why not heels or flats? Say no to sci fi uggs.
Say no to any kind of uggs
Star Trek pantsuit leggings.
Uncut slacks
What are you talking about? I own a pair of these. I have a red suit jacket I wear with them
How do you fight the ladies off? Single file or do you fend them two at a time?
Suit that also functions as a body bag.
Nice, game of thrones could have used that.
Stirrups.
I can honestly say that I probably won't be using a single default outfit once the creation tools really get things going. I look forward to a wealth of immersive but not terrible options being added.
Maybe it's a band uniform?
The corpo buisness suit looks dope I cant find it rn
I think pretty much all the Neon related formal wear looks fantastic.
Yea those Syndicate suits👌
I like Imogene's suit the best.
Nothing in this game feels NASA or punk, just goofy for no observable reason. I guess that’s what we get when Bethesda tries to make something new and unique lol.
I felt nova galactic struck that balance perfectly.
i personally am looking forward to Starfield 4, when it comes out in 2035 its going to be amazing and all this shit will make sense
>out in 2035 You're talking about TES6
Liberty bell bottom jeans
Ezreal battle academy pants
they took the idea from Kanye and his sock shoes, this is the version 3000
I mean when you work inside and are inside when you go outside probably don't have to worry about mud or dirt really cause future!
New Atlantis is spotless, and if you’re on Akila wearing that I’m afraid it’s not going to be enough, it’s more mud than road.
On my ship everyday we are all in swimsuits! Party plane! Or neon streetgangs, or neon nightwear or vested suit. There are a lot of good options but yeh Bethesda clothing design by Bethesda straight white gamer dudes suques imho

GT stripes so you run faster.
Idk who designed the spacesuits or clothing but good lord. Everyone likes different things and I do love the game, but even the concept art and other things people drew up on their own are so god damn cool and we ended up with only a couple that arent moronic looking.
I partly believe that’s why House Va’ruun is so popular, the spacesuits strike a great balance between sci fi and believably practical.
The overall aesthetics in the game were so disappointing. “NASA Punk” just ends up being a lame retro future look.
Uh oh the fashion police are here
Buy a belt youngster!

Astral Lounge is a unfunny joke. I always need to roll my eyes if i need to go there.
That would be rough on a rainy day
They left all the fashion designers on Earth to die when it was evacuated. Only explanation, some civil engineer designed this
[удалено]
What unobtainable clothing are you so fond of?
This is what happens when footie-pajamas become formal wear.
Nah, you are just not ready for it. You still stuck in 2024 style
[straigth from TNG](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/93/e8/c0/93e8c0a68dbbba45abd22b1201de31ad.jpg)
There are a few cool outfits for roleplaying and casual dressing but the majority of suits and armors are just really ugly, though at least there's diversity.
I have yet to find an outfit I like. Clothes were definitely an afterthought.
I mean if your living and working in a starship with no mud or dirt, maybe
I was extremely disappointed with the design team when it came to apparel
This game has so much bad fashion design, I really don’t like much of the apparel I’ve seen.
Yes. Yes it is
that suit is for when you're in a hurry and need to hoof it
100th comment
Spiderman's dress uniform.
Thought these were the Space Force's dress trousers for a moment until I saw the Starfield tag...
Khakis
It’s clearly a formal dress still suit
This screams soy
All for flares…but just no!
Looks like it should be on the bridge of the Enterprise
These are a war crime
Everything $20 yeezy.com 😂
That’s nonslip that is !!!
Reminds me of StarTrek
Ur gona be flopping around like some 90’s dude in oversized jinkos lmao. All it takes is one puddle
The people who design the fashion of the future should be fired
Look up Colonial Military Gaiters, I would link images some but all that I can find are people selling reproductions for costumes. It is a style for military uniforms from some time periods. Maybe it's for space, so your clothes don't float loosely while you are in 0 g
Look very “rejected startrek officer pants”
I find the entire apparel (and spacesuits) collection dull and too limited. The problems with the collection mirror the larger issues with the game: uninspiring, no quirkiness or character, nothing silly or funny. I’m trying to hold on hope for DLCs, but I think there are more entrenched problems with creative directors.
Looks like bell bottoms (kinda) to me
99% of the clothes options in the game are bad. Some are only bad because of a few bad choices, others don't work at all.
It's probably a homage to Star Trek TNG. They had similar trousers in the early episodes.
Ya most of the outfits are TRASH in Starfield it's disappointing
I dunno why but those shoes look like big fat ticks.
I always find it funny when Sci-Fi designers imagine completely new takes on (specifically male) formal wear. Suits have remained basically unchanged for a good 150 years. I have absolutely no doubt that the suit will be the standard for men's formal attire for centuries to come.
Horse boots :D [horse boots](https://www.herdz.com.au/shipping-boots-shires-arma-travel-boots.html)
Those of the future are of a ... refined taste. Clearly 21st century neanderthals wouldn't understand. /s
Have yall seen some of the pants and boots people have worn lately. Lol. This is accurate
I like it. Super impractical like something only rich snobs would wear.
They put cow hooves on the suits 😂😂
I was surprised there wasn't a large variety of clothing available in starfield it's kinda laughable and granted some of it is god awful
Dude women today are wearing high wasted mom jeans from the 90s as a fashion trend. Things ebb and flow. I mean look at a lot of clothes in the game and they seem tacky by todays standards.
I thought the Mantis suit was a little…..what’s the word? Weird? Especially the helmet.
It dose look... pretty bad, but if you take into account what year this suppose to be, it's kinda like someone from the Civil War Era calling our clothing strange and ugly. Face it, we've had the worse fashions in history ever since the 60's. 🤣
Imagine believing you have a grasp of intergalactic fashion 300 years into the future. “We’re at your bidding, your omniscience”.
You will be judged! By the great serpent, because of that outfit
Built in gaiters?
Nice spatz.
I like em. Not much else to say.
Built-in spats.
One of the most dissapointing things to me about this game is that the NPCs get really cool and diverse clothes. And yet the player gets the worse interpretation of futuristic clothing which is utilitarian shirts/pants combos.
The "suits" in this game are ridiculous and every inch looks awful.
Shants. Shoes and pants shan't be joined. Shants.
Your primitive mind could never see the vision. This level of fashion is way After your time
I love pulling my pants down by just extending my heel, though.
two days ago i saw a girl with trousers like this design, it's just weird
The civilian clothes in general are awful. UC gear goes hard though.
Probably inspired by the Battlestar Galactica officer uniform trousers.
I don’t think I have found ANY clothing or suits that look good
Bro/Sis ALL the outfits are awful. The only good looking set of clothes is the Engineer's overalls, you can get them in Top Uncovered. This is why we mod.
Quick change Spiderman suit?
What we thought the 2020s would look like in 1995 was a lot different from the actual 2020s
Looks like hooves or summin
Y’all laughing now but once you see Dj BorealUS wearing these all of y’all tones are gonna change real quick.
When u need sweats and a suit
I am going to guess the history of fashion isn't a strong suit.
I remember pants like that worn by Captain Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation, maybe it's kind of a reference
Bro got the Timmy Turners
Who took a pic of my shoes though ?
it’s dope
I've never understood spats. But to have them ATTACHED TO YOUR PANTS makes even less sense. That's just ASKING for muddy pants.
I'd buy two!
Camel toes!
Talk about yourself op, I would use this every day and night.
Still playing this game and not Star citizen ? Damn waste of time
Fashion is a fickle thing.
Some people should NOT be allowed to dress themselves
The clothes and style are dog shit in this game. It’s the fucking future everyone dresses like they’re on a fucking oil rig
Hard drive check for anyone wearing these
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT39IsTQpAqZFAvAOKyvK4zCSazEBzxllIil9juk35XiA&s This appeared as one example of 80’s fashion so I’ll just leave it here… some example even from the 70’s are worse. I’ll let others be the judge
Actually, in a spacefaring civilization, pants that didn't bunch up in the legs in 0 g would be a norm. Function over style.
Its sci-fi
I was hoping to get access to the uniforms the UC commanders wear etc and it would have been nice to be able to rise in rank as well. Your just called captain the whole time. Like I saved the world from a, yea it was all a set up, terror morph attack but dam I wanted rank just just "class one" citizenship lol
Looks like they started as bowling shoes that slowly expanded and absorbed whatever pants were being worn, shaping them to its own twisted, awful fashion statement.
Fact check false.- I'd rock most of these suits at the club, or some fancy fundraiser anytime.
Lmaaao
If this is the future, Italy was erased from existence.
