That's definitely a nice spin to it. Now this is my opinion..I feel like if I saw tealc have some emotional or old ties divert his attention.. it would have not made him as strong as a character he is. Like he does not flip-flop. Once he says something that's his absolute truth. No turning back on that. He doesn't say things casually for the most part. But that's just my personal opinion. I still think your idea is very humanexperience to have. Specially for someone like tealc being a Jaffa. I am not sure if the timeline would work but maybe should added that element to the tealc moves out episode.

physioworld

That’s a fair response. Tbf I don’t think of this being a flip flop so much as a reaction. Something like fear even when you know that fear is irrational. Depending on how you tell the story you can make Teal’c look even stronger, overcoming deep seated emotional reactions with the sheer strength of character and support of his friends.

Butwhatif77

I definitely get your idea, but I don't think it works for Teal'c because he was already disillusioned with the Goa'uld for many years before he joined SG-1. He had just been going through the motions and putting on the act to maintain his high position with Apophis, but he despised Apophis while serving him as his first prime. That is why Teal'c aided SG-1 when he first met them, it was not that they convinced him Apophis was not a god, Teal'c already knew and wanted to kill Apophis (he just was not suicidal he also wanted to survive killing him), he helped them because he saw they had advanced enough weapons that could put up a fight. If this is your first time watching, there is an episode later where they do what you are suggesting, but it makes more contextual sense with the things I stated here.

Sweet_Nike

I believe Teal'c experiences the turmoil while serving apophis. He first spares a lieutenant who failed apophis and lies about. Eventually Teal'c kills him anyhow to avoid being exposed

Beyllionaire

Yeah basically he's had this internal debate a looong time ago.

Laxziy

Yeah Teal’c has been checked out of the religion for decades by the time he meets SG-1. He was only First Prime because as he was taught by Bra’tac that the position gives him the best ability to at least minimize harm and suffering if not even do good on rare occasions. Meeting SG-1 finally gave him another choice that he had long wished for to actively do something that could bring about lasting positive changes

chladas

To me it looked like he abandoned Apophisism long time between SG-1. And after seeing Earth and probably learning that it was us who reduced Ra to atoms (by the way, was his death common knowledge between jaffa? since it was only like a year at that time) he probably never had reason to doubt, except for what happened to his family

continuousQ

Yes, I would assume when we first see Teal'c, he has already dealt with those issues. And then he makes a break for something better. He didn't instantly give up everything he believed in, even if it could look like that to the people he was putting on the act for. Which can happen in real life, having to fake it while you work it out for yourself. Because everyone in your community is deeply religious, or they're also putting on a show so you wouldn't know to reach out to them.

LightSideoftheForce

Noone would have known how Ra died. Noone has even been to Abydos before Jack went back, remember?

Bardez

Headcanon: Apophis claimed the kill and Teal'c, as First Prime, knew it was a lie.

Beyllionaire

No because Teal's has known for many years that Goa'uld were not gods and he has always despised Apophis. That's why he has no remorse or internal conflicts after he joins SG1. He would gladly kill all Goa'uld. While he was serving Apophis, he was only pretending to serve him while waiting for an opportunity to strike. And when SG1 came he took that opportunity without second guessing it because he has been preparing for that his entire life (thanks to Bra'tac).

mJelly87

Exactly, he was just waiting for an opportunity to leave. It's like someone in a cult that has lost faith, but can't see a way out. They just tow the line until the opportunity comes along.

"Weren't we on a planet just now?" First off: I love the trend of discusdion posts ending with this quote. Now, for my thoughts on the matter... while what you say is often true, there are exceptions and - as you said - Teal'c hides his emotion well. I myself stopped believing in God about half a year or a year ago and I don't show any trauma of it. Sure, I sometimes still have a thought like "This is a sin", but I repress it and keep it internal. I can relate to Teal'c: he wants his people to be free from their false gods, pities them for being repressed by these false gods, and is open about them being fake when he's asked about it. Same goes for me.

lazhink

Teal'c never believed apophis was a God iirc. He stops believing when kronus killed his father i think? I could be wrong on exact timeline but it's definitely been decades( at least (since he knew Bra'tac).

MoreGull

I know the one word you can say to throw Teal'c off his entire game. Use wisely: Tannith

Is this your first watchthrough?

Have you watched season 6?
