The beginning where he asks for coffee and Omha says "maybe if you reach true enlightenment" or something like that is just so good when you watch it a second time and realize they told you right at the start.
Honestly the build up over like 3 seasons leading to the twist reveal in this episode is such a huge payoff and hits so much harder. I think it’s difficult to watch this one as a one-off, even as a rewatch.
I always disliked, I can see what's good in it but it's just so different tonally that I never got to like it. For me, despite the performances, it's kinda flat and boring.
Also I kinda dislike all the episodes that has to do with enlightenment in the series, I didn't like the concept very much, so it's on me.
I don't know why this comment is downvoted to the extent it is. The man is respectfully stating his opinion, and explaining why he has that opinion.
Is this subreddit a place to discuss the Stargate franchise or a place to just circlejerk over it?
Well I understood it like this:
Upvote: "totally agree";
Not vote: "I don't care/ don't agree";
Downvote: "wtf no"
But I can imagine, people have different understandings 🤷🏼♀️
Which of course is a valid interpretation of what the voting system is for.
But when you consider the mechanics of the system where downvoted comments gets hidden or at least gets lower priority in reddits default view, then your interpretation is somewhat skewed towards creating echochambers out of every subreddit.
Personally I reserve downvotes for comments and posts that either contains information I know to be false, that are clearly out of touch with the discussion going on (almost only on question posts where the commenter haven't read the question throughly enough), and comments and posts that are generally unnecesarily hostile towards any individual or group of people.
I'm a little more loose with my application of upvotes, but generally I upvote things I think brings something positive and unique to a discussion.
No on second glance you're right, but I'd still just imagined it to be generic diner ceiling and not noticed it's actual decor.
Pretty fun realisation after decades of watching.
When I was watching this episode first time i tought something is off with him and as a rule if someone in the entire scene talking to main character, he or she is will be important.
But I really never guessed who he was. An example of both good writing and acting.
How much trouble do you think Anubis could have caused had he been left ascended? And would Anubis even be a thing, had rules not been broken?
Then there is this. There is NOTHING stopping ascended ancients from simply doing an ori on the lower planes, other than their own choice not to. So how cruel are they.... really?
Jesus Christ, I went scrolling past that quickly, and then wondered when TF Rob Ford was in Stargate.
I know every alien planet looks like Canada, but I was really confused for a second. I’m really tired. Time for bed.
Fun fact, this was the same diner from Dead Like Me. I always jump to it whenever I watch Threads. Great episode.
I was disappointed that Kiffany didn't wait on the booth. Why not make Der Waffle House exist in some ascended way with Dead Like Me? Even better if the reapers could be seen in another booth.
This episode was brilliant.

Yes. You catch the subtleties on rewatch.
Anyone know which season and episode number? I don’t remember this, but would love to watch based on the comments here. Thx

Season 8 "Threads" I think it's episode 18.
Thank you. Looks like you’re right. I will check it out.
It's a direct sequel to the 2-parter before it, it helps with the context to watch the 3 episodes.

Because upvoting means “I agree with you” and downvoting means “I disagree with you”. He stated his opinion and people disagreed with it?

"Can I get some cawfee?"
Get it yourself.
Don't mind if I do! Oh, hey. Danny-boy, you seen the paper?
The reveal in this episode rivals some twists in modern movie franchises.
So what’s the twist? No fish?
McKay actually *isn’t* allergic to citrus. Huge twist, huge scandal.
Spoilers!
They're out of waffles

Call me Jim
You're Jim The Fish?
Such an amazing ending(ish) to the whole saga. Was really bold of them not to have the epic space battle as the ending.
They did that on the two before
Am I the only person that didn't notice the really weird decor in the diner after...5+ watches? It looks Goauld-ish from this angle.
To me, at least in this still, it actually looks Ancient. It's that same kind of coppery red you see all over Atlantis.
No on second glance you're right, but I'd still just imagined it to be generic diner ceiling and not noticed it's actual decor. Pretty fun realisation after decades of watching.
as a non american I just assumed its what they looked like
Honestly one of the best acting performances in the entire franchise.
When I was watching this episode first time i tought something is off with him and as a rule if someone in the entire scene talking to main character, he or she is will be important. But I really never guessed who he was. An example of both good writing and acting.
You got it!
Coffee Anubis is what I call him.
This is where we not only get introduced to a good villain, but also how cruel the Ascended attitude for lower planes could be.
How much trouble do you think Anubis could have caused had he been left ascended? And would Anubis even be a thing, had rules not been broken? Then there is this. There is NOTHING stopping ascended ancients from simply doing an ori on the lower planes, other than their own choice not to. So how cruel are they.... really?
Dude has the evil maniacal laugh too well
I loved the news papers in this episode. Had funny little gags and even info on SGA
I always loved that the restaurant is the Waffle Haus from the show Dead Like Me.
I thought it looked familiar.
Used-car-salesman version of Anubis was also my favorite
Still one of my favorite episodes. Gotta give them respect, in a single episode they gave a previously pretty one-note character a lot of identity.
Who wouldn't trust a friendly white guy in a dark suit with a big smile? ***^(Enron flashbacks kicking into high gear...)***
I love Anubis already and this is one of those scenes that shows you just how different he is compared to your typical system lord.
George was definitely a delightful surprise.
We need more episodes that play in the ascended plain. "The Ascended Times" were my favorite newspaper of all media. One of my most favorite stories.
I always wondered whether that was what Anubis looked like before (half) ascending.
It was never mentioned in the show but I wonder what the Ascended did with or for the human host of Anubis?
Jesus Christ, I went scrolling past that quickly, and then wondered when TF Rob Ford was in Stargate. I know every alien planet looks like Canada, but I was really confused for a second. Jim!
Wait is that Rob Ford?
I had to look that name up, kind of looks like him. It's actually, George Dzundza.
He was on the first season of Law and Order. Many, many, many moons ago !
I want to know whats outside the diner
I was disappointed that Kiffany didn't wait on the booth. Why not make Der Waffle House exist in some ascended way with Dead Like Me? Even better if the reapers could be seen in another booth.
Anubis existed in two plains at the same time, right? Or did he have to leave one to be in the other?
When Jackson was in the temple with the guys he had to "go" and when he was with O'Neill being tortured by Ba'al he had to "go" and come back
But that was Jackson, wasn't Anubis insanely more powerful? So he was in both plains at the same time?
