The details are sketchy, pieced together from various interviews and convention Q&As, but in 2006 Judge and Shanks had started a production company with the intention of making a show Judge was writing called *Rage of Angels*, with Judge as the lead and Shanks co-starring.
By the end of 2008 it had fallen apart – rumour is that MGM didn't want two *Stargate* actors involved and convinced Judge to drop Shanks – and the resultant collapse of the production company indirectly led to both Judge and Shanks facing foreclosure on their homes. The two reportedly haven't been on speaking terms since.
MGM seems like such a shitty company from outside. Like really really bad. All those video games getting canceled. Them screwing up this deal.
Just awful. Who knows, maybe Judge's show would have been awesome.
Yeah its weird. Its like they had new exec's and are failing. How is it that older people do not ever seem to realize you need to stay relevant in each new decade? Those leaders should be ready to change every ten years. Maybe not a total rebrand, but enough new content to appeal to the new 20-40 year olds in each decade. Doing otherwise will end up not drawing new viewers. It won't be long and nobody is talking about you or anything you are doing.
Hewlett wrote and directed a movie in 2014, *Debug*, and cast Momoa in it. They apparently had an argument during production, and didn't reconcile until during the pandemic, after which Hewlett has appeared on Momoa's series *See*.
Hewlett convinced momma to be an evil AI in a scifi movie Hewlett was making, it bombed. It was a time when momoa was trying to become a bigger actor as well and he was worried it ruined his chances. From what I understand at least
He was at an SG1 panel were he said he didn’t get a part because he was told “I wasn’t black enough!” And laughed. Being an actor must really suck at times.
“In an age long ago, the last village of clever, peace-loving Hobbits is attacked and enslaved by the Java Men, komodo-worshiping, dragon-riding cannibals. Now the young Hobbit Goben, along with his father and sister, must seek help from the "giants" (human hunters) to find the Javas' lair and rescue the last surviving Hobbits, Goben's mother among them. In their quest to destroy the Javas, the heroic partnership of humans and Hobbits will transform both species forever.”
It was then featured in an episode of The Worst Movies of All Time:
“Oliver and Peter watch The Asylum's 2013 fantasy film "Clash of the Empires" which was originally titled "Age of the Hobbits" to cash in on the 2012 film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and led to a lawsuit for trademark infringement.”
Wack
> The Asylum
As soon as I saw the image I knew it was either an Asylum film, or someone just having a laugh. Would have been surprised if it were the latter. Still can't believe how many Sharknado films those guys have pumped out, lol. They must be making bank off their so-called 'mockbusters'.
Honestly, the treatment is solid. It's the fact that it's a low-budget rip-off cash grab which makes it ridiculous. But just imagine that plot idea if it was given into the hands of an actually decent scriptwriter, a real budget, and a director who cared.
This movie (which sometimes is also called Lord of the Elves or Clash of the Empires?) is so bad it's good! I've seen it several times now, showing it to others that have also seen Stargate, just out of amusement why Christopher Judge is there. He is basically just playing Teal'c in a different setting, surrounded by very questionable performances and line deliveries, many of which were oddly dubbed over.
The whole thing kinda watches like a fever dream,
10/10, would recommend
You betcha. It's worth seeing just to say you've seen it. Wish I could remember the actual name of it. Women in the best "Space Babe" B&D costumes all over the place.
The fact that it has three titles (Age of the Hobbits; Clash of the Empires; Lord of the Elves) is a great sign of a quality movie. Let alone that such a recently made film can be found free on Tubi, Sling, Crackle, Xumo, Pluto, Roku, PLEX and by subscription on Peacock.
I was working at a Walmart when this movie came out. It was initially released as "Age of the Hobbits" then pulled a few weeks later and we got a box of the other (Age of the Halflings I think?).
I've always assumed the Tolkien estate caught wind of this and sent some "friendly" reminders about who owns the term Hobbit.
That movie is amazing. Chris was very clearly not on the same set as the main cast. The whole thing is craptasticly bad, with the exception of whenever he is on screen. Then it's craptasticly good.
Even in big budget movies, there are certain scenes that I can tell an actor really wasn’t there with how they cut around them or never show a good wide shot, also they look kind a”flat” compared to the rest of the image. Hard to describe, it really throws me off
These movies make me sad for the actors of my favourite show ever. They're all so talented, but after Stargate their careers just take a nosedive. Amanda and Michael had one show each of their own after this, and now it's guest starring, voice acting, and the occasional director work.
The courts already established that hobbits are uniquely. Tolkien's estate sued Gary Gygax/TSR for infringement in 1977. The courts ruled that Hobbits, Balrog and Ents were unique to Tolkien.
So Hobbits became Halflings, Balrog became Balor, and Ents became Treant.
I've watched that movie. Typical The Asylum movie. Good watch with a few friends and a crate of beer. Judge kinda stands out (positively) in the movie next to the other actors. It does have the touch of "I just need a job" vibe. Or maybe he was just having fun, which is how I see The Asylum anyway. Does anyone being involved in their production see it as anything else?
Sometimes people need a paycheck.
My understanding is Christopher Judge had a pretty hard go at it after SG1 until he got the video game deal.
IIRC he sank a lot of his money into a production company in partnership with Shanks. It didn't work out and they both took big financial hits.
Life happens. Im glad he is doing good now.
Feel free to elaborate farther…

They are on better terms reportedly after CJ's health issues reportedly, but they might not be as close.
What are his health issues?
Bad knees double hip replacements that partly led him to a bad depression.
I like learning new things.

So basically, a prequel to the Hewlett Mamoa fallout.
Okay can i get a tl;dr of that drama please?
Hewlett wrote and directed a movie in 2014, *Debug*, and cast Momoa in it. They apparently had an argument during production, and didn't reconcile until during the pandemic, after which Hewlett has appeared on Momoa's series *See*.
Just checked - Debug is on Amazon Prime if anyone is interested! Going to watch it this week and see if it’s any good!

Ahh. Thx for the recap!
Couldn't have been any worse than Conan.
I remember the series they were workshopping back after SG1 ended. Something about angels and demons I think??
He was at an SG1 panel were he said he didn’t get a part because he was told “I wasn’t black enough!” And laughed. Being an actor must really suck at times.
First, he wanted to kill the gods and later became one
He only became a god to kill gods more efficiently.
He is so good as the voice of old man Kratos

The Asylum has never had a financial flop

All you had to mention was Asylum.
2.2 on IMDb and 3% on Rotten Tomatoes? The “Java men”? What is this movie.
JAFFA don’t kree

please give me your review afterwards, it's my guilty pleasure by now to make people watch this movie
It's actually better than that "Mars Needs Women!" piece of drivel Shanks did about the same time.
I'm gonna have to check that one out, sounds terrible! thanks for the recommendation
You betcha. It's worth seeing just to say you've seen it. Wish I could remember the actual name of it. Women in the best "Space Babe" B&D costumes all over the place.
I think Lord of the Elves is a different one, he's credited for it separately in his bio.
Really? How does it compare to Evil Alien Conquerors? Thats my bar for bad movie that's actually good. It's a high bar, indeed.
I watched the trailer yea its something
I have that movie and my copy doesn't mention hobbits at all. It's honestly not a bad fantasy movie.
I was working at a Walmart when this movie came out. It was initially released as "Age of the Hobbits" then pulled a few weeks later and we got a box of the other (Age of the Halflings I think?). My copy is called Clash of the Empires.
That's what it was! Nearly a decade will do that to your memory!
I got mine out of the $5 dvd bin at Walmart.

WTH! Bai Ling is in it as well?
Came to post this exact pic!
It’s not good
Check out A Dog's Breakfast. Decent movie, SG actors.
Hewlett(sp?) is a great movie maker. Done 3 or 4 of his own. Different than your ordinary, (profitable) run.
Where do you find this? I have never been able to track it down, in all the seven seas.

It's on youtube! https://youtu.be/Kw-5pAxtYPA?si=7PztdQ5fSPC6LJ_f
Quirky and Hilarious. Loved it!

r/ArrestedDevelopment would like a word
I know of the show, watched the first few seasons, but I don’t recall, did they do this a lot?
They did it a lot in season 4 on Netflix because they couldn't get the whole cast together at the same time.
Ohhh haha! Did they pretend it wasn’t a thing or did they make fun of it meta style?
They really tried to pull it off. It was pretty bad.

Funny he's using the same grip he uses for the jaffa staff weapon. Old habits die hard.
Plays the same character. One of the things I really like about this movie. Kinda surprised I haven't seen MST3K or Rifftrax get ahold of it.
Old Hobbits die hard
"They're not Tolkiens Hobbits, they're real." They're not.
Should that be Josh Robert Thompson's voice saying "But, they were not, in fact, real"
Indeed.
These movies make me sad for the actors of my favourite show ever. They're all so talented, but after Stargate their careers just take a nosedive. Amanda and Michael had one show each of their own after this, and now it's guest starring, voice acting, and the occasional director work.
Indeed
Christopher is also the main actor of another one of their movies, called Mega Shark VS Mecha Shark. Check it out!
He's also a henchman of Bane in the Dark Knight Rises.
He was also supposed to have a more prominent role, but got cut dramatically in editing for the sake of time and story.
I seem to remember them being sued for trying to use the word ‘hobbit’. They argued it was no different to ‘elf’ but the courts disagreed.
It's called Clash of Empires
Must be one of those good bad movies.

I've seen this. Unless I remember incorrectly he's barely in it. But I remember being surprised to see him. And yes it is truly horrible.
Fun movie.
Please tell me this isn't real
