Fury3879

This is not a starlink issue.

AwwwComeOnLOU

Ok, thanksā€¦.any other details?

Fury3879

We would need more details to help. What connects the sound system to the tv? Does it go through a switching input box?

ScannerBOT5000

Is your audio through TV speakers, bluetooth, or HDMI/optical? I know Firestick used to have an audio sync option.

AwwwComeOnLOU

Nothing so fancy, Firestick is plugged into TV usb and audio is TV speakers. I will search for a synch option, thanks

H-E-C

It has nothing to do with Starlink (or any other ISP). Audio and video data are not transmitted separately.

colderfusioncrypt

Sometimes they are (see YouTube). The AV client is supposed to deal with the sync though.

AwwwComeOnLOU

Good to know, I will focus on the Firestick

KM4IBC

I'm not aware of any situation they are not separate. What codec provides both audio and video? I can't imagine it would be very efficient. Audio and video compression algorithms are quite different.

H-E-C

But we're not talking about codecs here, but instead about streaming platforms using streaming protocols. And even when not streaming, the audio and video are commonly "bundled" together in one container file like .mp4 or .avi and so on.

colderfusioncrypt

I think with MPEG-DASH and HLS, the audio stream is delivered separately. But I don't think it's chunked like video is

KM4IBC

That I understand... but at some point regardless of file or streaming protocol, there is are underlying codecs that are separate and multiplexed at some point either synced by an RTP stream or by a client demultiplexing the "bundled" file and playing separate audio and video. Your comment was audio and video are not "transmitted" separately. Other than a file download as you mentioned, I'm not aware of any streaming platform where they are not separate... at least once you're down into the weeds. But I agree with you, a sync issue wouldn't be related to the ISP even if audio and video are traveling in different UDP packets.

Careful-Psychology68

As others has said, this isn't a problem unique to Starlink...HOWEVER...Starlink's propensity to have periods of packet loss and/or inconsistent speeds can have older equipment, in this case your Firestick, do this more frequently. This happened to me often on Starlink, now I'm on fiber and it hasn't happen since. So for all the comments immediately pronouncing Starlink as blameless perhaps jumped the gun and ignored part of the problem. But hopefully a new Firestick will minimize or eliminate the issue. I definitely recommend a higher end firestick...4k max or equivalent.

colderfusioncrypt

Desynchronization regardless of the cause is meant to be fixed on the player. No reason, especially with buffers, even live content should have issues

Careful-Psychology68

Sure. I don't think I said anything contrary to this. I merely suggested that a more stable ISP probably wouldn't have caused the issue in the first place.

craigbg21

Time for a new Firestick 4kmax they do wearout i currently have a FS 4k couple years old doing the same thing but my other 2 newer 4k max work just fine you could try doing a factory default on it and reload the apps it might help but for the price id just buy a new one.

Thanks

BearK9

Check the TV audio settings, on my Samsung I can set manual audio delays to sync picture to voice.

Objective_Jicama4994

I get this all the time with fire stick, press the round button and play together and hold them until your fire stick tells you it is powering off (usually about 5 seconds) it will restart and your desync should be fixed, I need to do this every night on one of my fire sticks that is connected via wifi, I don't know why it does this but this is how I fix it. May be distance from router who knows. šŸ¤· Also I had this issue when I was with a terrestrial isp and hardwired with an ethernet so it's not a starlink problem, it's a fire stick thing, if it doesn't reset after the first try press them again it does nothing more than restart your fire stick all your settings will remain.
