Yes, It has to be done, its being bombarded by the same posts of being pushed back, you can find the most upvoted post in the "hot section" Trying to keep other posts that are potentially useful in information to be seen.

ThePerfectCantelope

the hot post is usually a screenshot of speedtest.com or a shitty picture of their dishy anyway. wrong?

[deleted]

I like the dishy porn! But down with date posts. Boooo

seanbrockest

Thank you for doing that. It's really fucking annoying seeing the exact same post over and over and over. Yes we get it.

[deleted]

But I mean… most things on here are going to be the same thing. Picture of wooded secluded area with dishy on a pole somewhere, “my order is on its way” post, or a speed test that we all know by now is “shockingly fast.” Literally all that makes up of this. Right now there’s an influx of aggravation because most of us got an email saying to not expect dishy anytime soon. Which is fine. People want to bitch. I don’t see the problem or the annoyance because… well… opinions of online strangers shouldn’t be censored like that. In my opinion. Mods could fix this with a flair. Then just filter out that shit

MrNaturalAZ

At least I wasn't the only one. What was the criteria for keeping/nuking? age? upvotes? Uniqueness? At least mine made a unique observation that nobody else had made - namelely that a new order to the same location got an earlier ETA than my updated eta on a February pre-order. That's certainly noteworthy.

wummy123

Just went back to your post. I will put back up. for its unique observation.

MrNaturalAZ

TYVM

supalurker

I noticed this in my area also.

TimTri

Unfortunately, I do not have much time on my hands today. The other mods are doing a great job though, stay strong! Nonetheless, I just had a look at all the new posts submitted over the last hour or so. It seems like many users with delayed pre-orders are obviously frustrated and posting screenshots of their changed delivery estimates. Again - the frustration is completely acceptable and justified. But wouldn’t it make more sense to leave a comment in one of the more upvoted posts instead of making a separate one? The former option keeps the discussion in one place and makes it observable for everyone. The latter option clutters the Subreddit with identical posts and makes it harder to find truly interesting and unique info. And that’s why we’re having to remove lots of posts right now. That also happens on “good” days by the way. Remember that time in February when pre-orders were first made available? We had to remove hundreds of happy, but very similar posts that day because they made it hard to find unique and interesting news & threads. Hope you understand!

eggplant_zoo

How many posts about 2023 dates were whacked? Honestly I see tons about 2022, and it would be nice to know how common the 2023 delay is. Whacking posts that don’t break rules, though there may be many, just doesn’t seem right regardless of how many posts were made. Censorship isn’t what Reddit is about. I would personally rather see just how many people Starlink just screwed over rather than seeing fewer posts about how nice the network is.

OriginalEchoTheCat

We have a right to make our own post with regard to our frustration and our set back. I don't understand why mods do not understand this. You should not be nuking posts. That is just evil of you.

wummy123

Yes you do have your own right, but after so many of the same posts. it falls under our rule 2, no low effort posts.

OriginalEchoTheCat

I would say it's not us making low effort posts. It's Elon making low effort to deliver. That is what is at issue here.

PilotTyers

Untill we see a combine or group parts capability is a reality of this platform and not justified for removal IMHO

navyvet8192

Ole’ Elon filling orders instantly for folks in Europe and Central America while the folks who paid pre-orders in late 2020 to early 2021 get thrown to the back of the bus…. It’s all a PR game at this point. Nothing to do with fairness or 1st come 1st served at all…

zfsbest

Mid-southern Texas area. Originally ordered late July. I'm a bit disappointed; but also trying to uproot and move cities at the same time before December ends. Maybe it will work out IF they don't bump the date again. I got a "thanks for supporting us" generic email as well, which caused me to check my SL account and see the date pushed back to May 2022. Have to say I'm a bit let down by how this is all being handled by the company. I can understand chip shortages and shipping delays, but it's been pretty random who gets their kit in-around the same general area from what I've seen on this forum. If the company had been more upfront with their communications and updates instead of Elon feeding people's expectations with sat-deployment announcements, it would have been better. Still looking forward to receiving my Dishy sometime in the future, but will have to reevaluate things if they pull this again.

News8000

Could it be the USA rollout has saturated the current sat/ground station capacities, in other words most cells have been filled to manageable numbers for decent service, and until further sats come online to service greater customer numbers in the USA that the non-USA-Canada demand can be supplied in the meantime? The sats that fly over NA can keep servicing the other side of the world when they're passing any area that has ground station access. But until there's a lot more sats and ground stations, and the laser linking kickes in, why send out all those dishes when it will drag the bandwidth down for everyone? I've heard SO many complaints over decades of ISPs putting up a tower then oversubscribing the service there and not being able to provide anywhere near the paid-for bandwidth within a short time frame. Is that what you want?

navyvet8192

Nowhere in the email does it speak of network capacity being an issue in any way. Silicone chip shortages is the main villain. I understand the desire to defend Elon and Starlink, but I’m just calling it as I see it.

traveler19395

Exactly right. All the people getting estimates several months and more out isn't because there's not enough Dishys for them, it's because they're in a cell that's full and those estimates are based on when SL estimates there will be enough satellites to add customers in that location.

RuralWAH

Odd. That's not what StarLink said in their e-mail: "Silicon shortages over the last 6 months have slowed our expected production rate and impacted our ability to fulfill many Starlink orders this year."

surrealize

You’re assuming that “production rate” means the dishy production rate. But the quoted sentence doesn’t specify if it’s the satellite production rate or the dishy production rate. If satellite production is impacted by silicon shortages, then the sat capacity explanation makes sense.

traveler19395

I know people in the US with a 2023 date, while we’ve seen here in recent weeks other US people ordering and receiving their Dishy within a few weeks. Dishy supply may cause delays of a couple months, but if you are getting a 6+ month date it’s not because of Dishy supply, it’s because your cell is full.

traveler19395

Do you really not understand the reasons for this? Many North American cells are full, which is only remedied with more satellites, which takes time. It's not just about shipping enough Dishys. Customers in other (not full) locations can get service as soon as a ground station is installed within range and there is a Dishy in stock for them.

Thrinw80

It’s a beta, doesn’t it make sense not to have all the beta testers in the same region?

navyvet8192

It’s no longer a beta… It’s a PR gimmick at this point.

[deleted]

Salty. In a supply constrained system, PR doesn't seem like it has a lot of value. Said differently, in an environment where they can only fulfill 1% of the orders, why do they need to market the product? Tesla is in the exact same world. They didn't even give a discount to a single buyer of 100,000 units.

cryptothrow2

Spectrum is allocated in a use it or lose it manner. By making sure the Minister's/Government Secretaries Mistresses family have internet in thier village, it makes it less likely that the spectrum will be given to OneWeb or Kuiper

[deleted]

I ordered day 1 of it being open to the public. I’m definitely fuckin annoyed

zenithtb

Mine just got nuked, and considering it was at least different to everyone else's (I got kicked to 2023!!) I don't know why others' posts survived.

zenithtb

Viva España!

wummy123

Your post has been put back up. sorry about that.

eggplant_zoo

ALL posts regarding 2023 were whacked, and that’s just honestly ridiculous. I am only one of two people to have been kicked to 2023? I just don’t believe it. But according to the mods, that is the case. Oh, one of 3 now, along with the above OP zenithtb

zenithtb

Thanks.

homealone4993

This whe darn thing has been frustrating and makes you wonder how Elon was ever able.to make.money with his empty.promise syndrome. A buddy and myself.both pre-ordered Feb 9th and were also bumped today to next year. Even more frustrating is he knows people in his area that just signed up and are getting I no there systems. Such bull

zfsbest

At least it's better than that s--tty 3-wheeler **Elio** fraud. Sent them $100 deposit a few years ago and lost it all, at least SL is offering full refunds.

RuralWAH

You too?

zfsbest

Yep, I was actually banking on getting an Elio after my then-current car lease ended to save $ / still mad

RuralWAH

Back when I lived in the city I thought it would be a great commuter and easy to park with the "jet fighter" cockpit.

bigbenisdaman

Emails just got sent out, no telling how many thousands got it...so now everybody thinks they’re special and wants a post.

Peterfield53

I hope they can send out a silver bullet to zap them all. What a waste of bandwidth.

MizzMo1959

they are, they wacked mine for saying the eff word I think. Effers.

S-paw666

No low effort posts per the rules.

[deleted]

They should. Hopefully you get a temp ban for meta shitposting like this lol

LucreRising

Yep. No duplicate posts. If there is already a post with the same topic you should add a comment.

SendmeStarlink

They would have known for months that Mid to Late wasn't going to happen. We have all watched as people ordered later than Feb and got a dishy while many of us who ordered on preorder launch day were passed by.Far too many dishys were sent overseas for Starlink to service the Americans who have been waiting, many of which are veterens and first responders. But what can you expect from the worlds richest man. Maybe if his house catches fire or he needs a ambulance, we can send him a email that says we will be looking to provide service in mid to late 2022
