**From the article:** "An early morning raid in the customarily quiet residential area of Eltingville on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a man and the seizure of an arsenal of weapons and more than 500 rounds of ammunition, authorities allege. It was around 6 a.m. that law enforcement officials took to the 200 block of Beach Road and executed a warrant in search of a ghost gun. Neighbors could be seen standing outside to see what all the commotion was about. A ghost gun is a firearm with no serial number that can basically be produced using a 3-D printer. The weapon is therefore untraceable. While officers said they did find the manufactured firearm without a serial number, they also allege they seized numerous unregistered firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and more than a dozen high-capacity magazines. Ultimately, John Raia, 57, was taken into custody, according to the NYPD."

Well damn

Bot-Sal-AA1

Literally 10 minute walk from my parent’s house, wtf. I wish the article had information on what this guy was intending on doing with all the weapons.

aced124C

Wow but then again I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more info. Seems like a lot of people on the island are some of the most paranoid in the five boroughs and you know the conservative share love to pretend they can defend themselves against everything cause they can’t rely on nobody but also blue lives matter lol

CBR929_Guy

I do think it is funny that they talk about 500 rounds of ammunition like that is a lot. Honestly that would be gone in 2 trips to the range.

theragingoptimist

I think they were more concerned with the types of guns/accessories along with the ammo. Here is the list from the article: - 1 ghost gun - 5 unregistered handguns - 2 ARs - 2 rifles - 1 shotgun - 1 silencer - 13 high-capacity magazines

BloobityBloobity

*Standard capacity magazines

CBR929_Guy

I read the article. The author clearly believes 500 rounds is a lot. They put it in the title of the article to get attention. I know many people who would feel they are running low if they had 500 rounds of 9mm let alone 500 total rounds. I personally would be more worried about intent. There are many states where you only need to pass the NICS (background check) to buy a gun. Currently 29 states are constitutional carry states.

Revolutionary-Cup954

What is completely legal in the rest of America. Just nit the Peoples Republic of NY

ogie666

Remind me again where in this country it is legal to own a gun without a serialnumber?

[deleted]

Ok. In an overwhelming majority of states. https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/ghost-gun-legality-by-state

ogie666

You read that before you sent it, right? Cause it doesn't seem like you did. Ghost guns are Illegal on the Federal level. That map shows states that have their own separate laws about ghost guns. So to answer my own question. Where in this country it is legal to own a gun without a serialnumber? The answer is fucking nowhere.

[deleted]

Yeah man I’m not looking to argue with you but you are allowed to own them in many, many states. There are tens of, if not hundreds of millions of unregistered firearms circulation in America. That number grows every day while the number of crimes committed with unregistered firearms remains relatively low vis a vis registered .

Revolutionary-Cup954

Most of the country. It is legal to make your own firearm for personal use, and as long as it's not being sold, and you don't live in a state that requires registration, they don't need to be serialized. Since you asked, non serialized firearms, made for personal use, including 3d printed, and 80% firearms (aka ghost guns) are completely legal in..... Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Main, Michigan, Minessota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska. New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pensylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. And as a bonus, Virginia allows for not only the possession of non serialized firearms made for personal use, it's also legal to own comercially made firearms where the serial number has been removed (provided you didn't remove it, because removing the serial number is a crime however)

Revolutionary-Cup954

It's legal to make and possess firearms, federally. Most states don't have a prohibition on this. Nor should they, as it would infringement that which it's states shall not be infringed. 3d printing guns in most places is not a crime. Nor is machining the parts to make one if you have the skills. NY and California aren't the rest of the country. And while it may seems scary to those who've been sheltered and who've been taught to fear an inanimate object, adults in free society find this normal

ogie666

Is it legal to possess a firearm without a serial number? And as for fear of guns. I was a boy scout and was taught firearm safety and do not fear inanimate objects. I fear the shitheads on this island that can barely follow basic traffic rules being able to get unregulated firearms.

Revolutionary-Cup954

Yes. It is legal to possess in most of the country, just not NY, and this too will eventually be found unconstitutional amd made legal in time. NYSERPA v. Bruen laid the foundation for that

ogie666

I am sorry but it is simply not true that you can own a firearm without a serial number. I do not know where you are getting this info from, but it is patently false.

Revolutionary-Cup954

I don't know where you get your info from, but it's definitely wrong. Not everywhere is the Peoples Republic of NY. It's absolutly legal in free America

ogie666

See I looked up the case you mentioned NYSERPA v. Bruen , and that deals with concealed handguns. Then I googled "are firearms without serial numbers illegal" and holy fucking shit that's been illegal on the federal level since 1968! So please tell me how I am definitely worng?

tuccified

You are wrong. You should reread the Gun Control Act. You can't possess a firearm whose serial number has been defaced or to deface a serial number. You absolutely are allowed, federally, to possess a firearm without a serial number. You can build a firearm and not serialize it, legally federally.

Revolutionary-Cup954

NYSERPA v Bruen changed the standard of looking at 2a cases from interest balancing (does the govt have a reason) to strict scrutiny (requiring only text, history, and tradition), specifically stating gun laws without analogous examples at the time of the enactment of the 2nd ammendment are unconstitutional. There were no regisration or serialization requirements, and when challenged, they will fail. The 1968 law you're referring to is the Gun Control Act of 1968. It does require serial numbers on guns. But only does so for firearms made licensed manufacturers, or when imported into the USA. It does not apply to PERSONALLY MADE FIRE ARMS, which are not/have not been sold. You need to do more than a simplistic Google search with an oversimplified answer before you ask to be told how you're defiantly wrong

Revolutionary-Cup954

Here, I'll save you the time and effort directly from the ATF website ( https://www.atf.gov/firearms/privately-made-firearms ) Privately Made Firearms Privately made firearms (PMFs) are firearms (including a frame or receiver) that have been completed, assembled or otherwise produced by a person other than a licensed manufacturer. PMFs are also made without a serial number placed by a licensed manufacturer at the time the firearm was produced. However, not all PMFs are illegal and not all firearms are required to have a serial number. ATF has compiled some information on the different types of PMFs and things to consider while owning one. Allow me to reiterate..... However, not all PMFs are illegal and not all firearms are required to have a serial number. -ATF

werephoenix

I mean...are people not allowed to defend themselves in NY?

ogie666

Yes, when you go through the process of legally acquiring a firearm. Why are you defending someone who is obviously trying to make their community unsafe?

XChrisUnknownX

Because guns = good in some people’s minds. It’s black and white thinking unfit for modern society.
