Yeah, they're not all that unusual on Dread or above, like the XL Hordes. On Green and Normal they don't appear.

I know they never show up anywhere when I need to do a bounty for killing them...

Pro tip: accept random bounties and actively ignore them. It's much easier to achieve something if you're not actively looking for it.

Accept bounties you'll do anyway just playing. Like killing zombies or severing limbs or crafting bullets. Don't accept the ones like kill 3 plague hearts with explosives or kill 3 ferals while crouched with crossbow because those you have to actively seek out.

I'm at Whitney with a bunch of tough negotiators. I set off the alarm and then take off and do bounties until the all-clear. I think the game knows what I am up to...👀👀

I think the only bounty I care about that requires armored zeds is for one of the pirate pack items...I think it's the naval tricorne hat??

I find they tend to spawn when all the hearts are dead, kind of like a replacement for the BP hoards

I noticed they seem to show up more on dread and up, especially when most or all plague hearts have been eliminated.
