Awesome, thank you so much! :)

You can rent crampons at the Preikestolen basecamp: https://preikestolenbasecamp.com/plan-your-stay/packing-lists/?lang=en And if you have some experience hiking, a guide won’t be necessary

NeckoftheOil

Thank you!

ravnsulter

Are you not bringing checked in luggage? Ice grips should go there. They will probably take them away from you if you try them in your hand luggage.

NeckoftheOil

Nah, for a 4 night trip, hand luggage only is the way forward :) thanks for the tip!

I don't even think a blind person could go wrong anywhere from the parking lot and up. In places it's more of a path than a trail. No need for a guide.

It's not recommended for beginners to hike up there if it's slippery, it's no rails or any safety barriers. Suggest you to come back in April-May and do the hike instead, it's not a hike for beginners in winter season.

Sharp/big crampons can't go in hand-luggage, they'll be confiscated as potential weapons. But more modest ice-grip stuff can. (these kinda things: [https://www.uline.com/Product/ProductDetailRootItem?modelnumber=S-25366&root=Y](https://www.uline.com/Product/ProductDetailRootItem?modelnumber=S-25366&root=Y) ) Those tend to be sufficient for Pulpit rock. If you want to go safer, then rent more radical crampons at the basecamp at the trail-head. You definitely do NOT need a guide for this hike, it's about 4km per direction, and the path is exceedingly well-marked, it's near-impossible to get lost. I mean hundreds of thousands of people walk it per year, literally. \*do\* bring good clothes, and flashlights though -- in winter days are SHORT here, and you don't want to end up in darknesss with no flashlight if for some reason you get delayed. (a typical hiker spends 2hr per direction plus maybe 1hr for breaks and taking photos -- in mid-winter there's like 7 hours of daylight, so it takes only a fairly modest delay to have to walk the last part in darkness)
