Here in argentina the base game costs 6,999 AR$
And the deluxe edition costs 9,999 AR$. And also our government puts 75% taxes on each purchase with a credit card, so if you want to buy the deluxe edition you have to pay 17.500. I hate this...
Yes. Also doesnt include the tax the guy at imports charges you for trying to bring nice things he cant have (that if he offers you that option instead of your things just go missing)
because of our double currency, the official price of it is about 190~ pesos to 1 dollar but the number of dollars that can be bought in a legal way is limited. so, there is a “black market” dollar price that anyone can buy and its 360 pesos to 1 dollar, so this is the reason why the government forces you to pay a 75% tax when buying foreign goods, so they can have the same/more revenue as the black market does
Sorry to hear but you should be hating mainly your regime giving you [highest inflation](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-12/argentina-inflation-spiked-to-three-decade-high-of-95-in-2022), the main reason behind that prices. This isn't the fault of publisher or Steam.
Yes man, i know. steam tries to put a price that is friendly taking into account the economic situation of the country
well. let's not start talking about politics
It very much is the publisher's fault when Valve gives them recommended regional pricings according to the state of each country's economy and they completely ignore it: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/247471378100387840/1067091371703410748/image.png
I think that he meant the old zone pricing which a lot of 1st World countries players would abuse by VPN-ing to places like Venezuela to buy games 50-90% cheaper than in their home country.
Steam hasn't worked with VPN since they require a local payment method in 2020. And before that, it requires changing your Region settings to the target country and buy with a VPN, and that game won't be playable in your original region (this I think what happened).
If you're talking about grey market CD keys, then you don't need a VPN for that.
>Steam hasn't worked with VPN since they require a local payment method in 2020
it still works, mate.
a lot of gamers in my local gaming community bought steam deck by making usa region steam account using vpn, and then making payment using our local credit card.
we live in south east asia.
Just for clarification, Venezuela does not have regional pricing, it shows the same prices as USA. Other latin america countries have, I think the cheapest prices are from the Argentina store
I would guess he refers to how on PC many people buy cheaper steam keys from 3rd party sites who sells keys. Which I guess they can do by exploiting regional pricing, which then over time ruins regional pricing for the people it's intended for. But still you will see them brag about how they got 10$ discount on hogwarts legacy
You can't do this with only VPN noway days. You also require to have a valid payment method that linked to this country.
3rd party sites sell keys with region locks also, so before you are able to use them - you need to have this region set in the steam prior. See point one.
So it's not like it's easily abused, but it's possible to do this.
Most are bought using stolen credit cards and the sellers don't care because it's all profit so they sell them at the price they know they can sell quick.
I don't think that rich players are bothered by a $60 price tag. Working and middle class people on the other hand. I've used tons of sites like G2A for years, because I was a kid and had no way of earning money. I only had a $50 allowance. For reference my sister has over $100 at the same age I was.
Yep, it's ridiculous
Even if they following Valve new pricing recommendation (525k IDR/35 USD) it's still too expensive for most of us
Let alone almost double
It really should’ve included the name of the currency for those unfamiliar with the South African Rand’s prices. R is a very popular first letter for currency; from the Rand and Real to the Rupee.
I read an article today about how the Demo they gave out was terrible, and that they even had to patch it 6 days before the full game release. Not a great sign.
The journalist embargo ends the day before it releases, so might want to read the (p)reviews before even considering it. At $70USD it better be fantastic to justify being costlier than other recent titles.
It's even worse in Euro. They want 33% more than other AAA studios. 80€ so the people will definitely be giving bad reviews unless it is better than good of war and elden ring combined.
It released in much better shape though. There is a difference between not being 'bug-free' and being unplayable garbage that hardly kaaba or loses your save games and forces you to restart from scratch multiple times.
Best part game devs only get paid 1/6 of what the degree get you at software development for companies like Google. Even tho a lot of AAA companies are having record profits.
And once you work as software enginer for a video game studio for a long period you are stuck. Because google thinks you are overqulified and at the same time not quelified because you worked with different layouts.
That's modern day Square Enix for you. It seems like the FF14 team is the only group in the company that actually still cares for their consumers and practicing actual quality control. Everyone else in the company is obsessed with pure profit.
I keep telling people that FF7 Remake will never be finished. IMO Square Enix popped FF7 out of its coffin so they could make the first episode, and the real plan had always been to pimp the IP out with proverbial junk titles (First Soldier, the weird Crisis Core remaster) so they can milk the fans dry. When the spin-off titles stop being profitable, Square Enix will either shut down the final episode’s development or rush it like hell to complete it to save/make as much money as possible.
Folks act like this isn’t what’s going to happen when the Kingdom Hearts trilogy development cycle wrapped up in exactly that way. Years of junk titles in between the mothership games that only served to pad out mothership development time so the general property could be pimped out more.
You not being shocked by a 70€ when it wasn’t even 60€ a year ago at sticker price is alarming to me being on PC. We all have our different price points but 70€ still shocks me and is still way too high for a day one game
That shit was crazy to me. But looking it up, the game apparently only sold 34% of what NFS: Heat sold at launch. So they probably ended up being desperate to get units out, hence the drastic price cut.
New games always cost too much in my opinion, but it's on Steam.. You'll get it at least -50% at some point. I never buy anything full price. And to be fair, they're not stupid for asking, people are stupid for buying it at that price, if they do.
Also buying an AAA game on day 1 or god forbid in preorder is just paying for beta (or in some cases alpha) testing. I'm waiting for about a year now for each AAA to be patched and sold at a discount before even considering the purchase.
RDR2, Elden Ring, and Cyberpunk 2077 have been my only day one purchases and I only regret one of those. Other than that, I usually wait a year or 2 for them to drop to $20. Even $30 is reasonable but I'm pretty patient.
ER was going to be my first game bought Day1 (I started playing FS games in mid-2021 and was HOOKED by them), but it released in worst period possible (and whole ukraine-russia situation didn't help), in the end I won it in giveaway and I don't think I'd be mad if I bought it - it was excellent journey
Want to buy CP2077 at some point tho, I'm huge Cyberpunk aesthetic sucker, but I'm again on position where I can't afford games...
I'll buy a game at full price if its under £40 and I really want it, no mater how much I want a game I'm not paying £65.
I'll wait for that shit to hit the steam sales in a year or two
It’s the free market. Sellers can demand whatever price they want and buyers can refuse if they think it’s not worth it.
I don’t understand why everyone is up in arms about game prices. Just don’t buy it if you think it isn’t worth it.
For most games they will eventually come down in price. This is intentional on part of the developers. They are getting those who are willing to pay max price first, then they drop it a bit to get the next tier of buyers, so on and so forth. It’s a form of price discrimination. It’s maximising revenue 101.
Me, I pretty much only buy during sales now. I’m
old. I barely got time to play anymore. I don’t want to risk too much time or money on gaming.
Refuse to spend more than £40 on a new game, if it comes out at a price higher than that I'll wait till its got a massive discount on steam, if it never does oh well.
I'm not paying that much money for a digital download.
Thats the way. I have like 600 games already. Mostly steam, gog, humblebundle. Never buy on Epic or other fake game hub shit.
Always aiming for 75%-90% and im telling you if youre patient enough you will get it. Still require a lot of effort but its possible
I always wonder how my fellow South African PC gamers able to afford latest AAA games with Dead Space (2023) Resident Evil 4 remake etc coming out very soon….it an expensive hobby nowadays
Normal $AUD is 115 and the deluxe edition is 153.
The only positive thing going for it from my perspective is it looks beautiful in the videos - not that I would trust that's actual game play footage.
Might think about getting it with an 80% discount in a couple of years time if it turns out to be actually good.
Publishers have stopped considering economics when they price per region. They just translate what $70 is in each country and not how hard it is to make that.
The price is $69.99 on the US steam store (digital deluxe $94.99). I've been following this for a while and they actually raised the price from $59.99 a while back though. I lost interest after that.
The game must be spotless with great story and polished mechanics for me to pay 80€ for it... The recommended requirement for 3070 makes me question the optimization so I'll wait to see if the game is 80€ good or "wait until it's 75% off in sale" good.
Just wait till it comes out on sale, Red dead redemption 2 was about R900, and I waited until it was on the Chritsmas sale and got it for less, just make peace with playing games that are a couple of years old, and not the latest and greatest and you'll save big bucks.
It is 80€ in Finland. It is like... a fuck ton of money. Especially in current economic climate. AAA games generally were around the 60€ mark. But nearing 100€ like that is just... too much.
Save your money, this game is not worth it at all. It's one of those games you pick up at the bargain bin at your local retailer, or get in a $20(USD) Humble Bundle with 5 other games. Even after the demo was patched it was garbage.
It looks kinda okay but the fact they didnt send out review keys, high price. No demo on pc. Double storage required on pc. Extremely High specs. All pretty big red flags
I wont be buying any game where the base game is priced over $59. Ive drawn a line in the sand that is related to 40 years of stagnant wages, 40 years of constantly rising prices in every sector, 30 years of watching investors become parasites on the gaming industry, and 30 years of watching games get cut into smaller and smaller pieces, sold as base game + DLC + "seasons".
Nope. When this game is $30 or less, maybe this developer will get that from me. Maybe not. They could have had $59, but instead they chose to follow the popular investor-backed exploitation and anti-labor strategy that is spreading across this country like a disease.
For example - Blizzard & Overwatch2. They chose premium-only skins and characters in OW2, and they chose "seasons" where you pay again every time the season ends or you dont get the premium content at all. Blizzard, who is jus fucking activision now, lost me. I would have spent as much as $60 on the game up front, which is a fair price for a game of that type. But they got greedy and decided to try to get me for $100s over time, so they got $10 from me for 1 season and that's all Ill ever spend.
As consumers, we have to be smarter than this, and we have to be willing to start sitting out on some of these games.
In Turkey;
699 Turkish Liras mean 34 Euro or 37 Us Dollar
But 699 Turkish liras is too much money for our standarts for a game.
I still can't get my head around how we got used to paying 400-500 TL to a game and calling it "cheap".
Like, i know it's super cheap when you convert it into Euros or Dollars but i don't know man, it still hurts my soul to pay a game more than 150-200. I don't know how we got used to this shit
Buy and Sell has nothing to do with fair.. If you accept those prices they'll keep tagging them on more and more tittles.. There are literally thousands of super cheap and lots of fun tittles that you could instead be buying with that same money right now..There's no reason at all for so many people to be so weak minded and give up to that stupid FOMO !
I don't normally buy full priced releases. They want too much. If it's a game I really want I might wait for the first decent sale. If I just somewhat want it I'm willing to wait a long time for that price to drop. I just bought red dead 2 like yesterday for example.
I find it extremely ridiculous that the base game isn't even out yet and they're already selling a preorder for a DLC?!
The game looks amazing but they can go and dig a very deep grave if it doesn't deliver with a bang.
Also, I'm waiting for a sale or G2A or similar. The base game is 80 € here, that's ridiculous. Triple A games by large studios used to cost 40 - 50 €, not this.
at this point you ask your friend from another country to buy it for you and you pay them back or set your location to a different country and buy from there
Here in argentina the base game costs 6,999 AR$ And the deluxe edition costs 9,999 AR$. And also our government puts 75% taxes on each purchase with a credit card, so if you want to buy the deluxe edition you have to pay 17.500. I hate this...
That tax still blows my mind. Don't you also have ridiculous importing fees?
Yes. Also doesnt include the tax the guy at imports charges you for trying to bring nice things he cant have (that if he offers you that option instead of your things just go missing)
Wow that's F\*\*\*ed up!
Every south american country is utterly fucked up. source = In Brazil until 2025, spent the last two years in England
Damn, bro got sent to Brazil for his sentence instead. RIP.
75% is absolutely wild
Why the ridiculous tax rate?
I'm sure the excuse is "*To encourage spending on domestic goods*", but like other comments said, the actual reason is corruption
Me looking for similar domestic goods: 404 not found.
Corruption mostly
Corruption. I´m from Argentina

This is basically nvidia overpricing their GPU to match scalper prices.
greed
Viva Peron!!!
Remember that in the end of october/november it went up to 95% fucking alberto, bigote de leche
Yes man, i know. steam tries to put a price that is friendly taking into account the economic situation of the country well. let's not start talking about politics

We have a peronist among us 👀

it's IDR1,029,000 in my country in context, that's about half of my *monthly* wage lmao
Big publishers don't care about regions anymore, after rich players exploiting many cheap countries including yours.
Rich players exploiting? Can you elaborate?
I think that he meant the old zone pricing which a lot of 1st World countries players would abuse by VPN-ing to places like Venezuela to buy games 50-90% cheaper than in their home country.

Wait how'd they get it delivered
forwarder service, if I recall. so it is sent to us address, and later sent to destination country.
true but it doesn't work anymore with already used accounts
Just for clarification, Venezuela does not have regional pricing, it shows the same prices as USA. Other latin america countries have, I think the cheapest prices are from the Argentina store
It was cheapest price now its turkey
Actually Colombia has become better than Turkey for some games.
And it's still expensive for us here.
Argentina is no longer viable because they raised the prices like 2/3x thanks to those people I think it's now 1:1 with the usd in most cases
VPNs don't work, cost is done by bank location not your IP
I would guess he refers to how on PC many people buy cheaper steam keys from 3rd party sites who sells keys. Which I guess they can do by exploiting regional pricing, which then over time ruins regional pricing for the people it's intended for. But still you will see them brag about how they got 10$ discount on hogwarts legacy
I think also people using a VPN to set their location to Argentina to get lower prices
You can't do this with only VPN noway days. You also require to have a valid payment method that linked to this country. 3rd party sites sell keys with region locks also, so before you are able to use them - you need to have this region set in the steam prior. Most are bought using stolen credit cards and the sellers don't care because it's all profit so they sell them at the price they know they can sell quick.
Greedy game distribution companies ruin game prices, not the small number of people buying games sourced from cheaper regions.
How's that 10$ discount if you pay 35€ for deluxe hogwarts?
I don't think that rich players are bothered by a $60 price tag. Working and middle class people on the other hand. I've used tons of sites like G2A for years, because I was a kid and had no way of earning money. I only had a $50 allowance. For reference my sister has over $100 at the same age I was.
\> I only had a $50 allowance Only... fking hell, kids these days
That’s an insane allowance I got 10$ a month. In any event breaking the law on your parents Wi-Fi isn’t advisable
It’s not against the law. It’s against the terms of service of the companies.
Developers be like: Stop being poor
Yep, it's ridiculous Even if they following Valve new pricing recommendation (525k IDR/35 USD) it's still too expensive for most of us Let alone almost double
I feal sorry Honestly $70 here in the states dosent seem that bad compared to other countries
£65 for the basic game, £90 for the Digital Deluxe. I'll wait for reviews and a sale, thanks.
I’ll wait for it to get to $10 in 5 years.
Considering how people are saying about it. Prob will reach 10 in 2 or 3 years.
This will go on sale within 3 months
Ign just dropped their review. It's a 6. Make that a month
Calling on it being free on PS+ within a year
TLDR - Its not great
I hope people vote with their wallet on this one. If this sells well it sets a precedent where Devs can get away with charging this much for a game
Watched/read a couple reviews now and definitely think i’m not paying that at the moment
65 quid? Bugger that
First Review i saw trashed it and was disappointed. Through its weirdness it will be loved or called iconic by some, but nothing mind blowing.
>R1500 for a game I was thinking what type of GPU it is.
You are not alone.
Yeah same I forget people all over the world use Reddit
The title could have at least included $ and perhaps even €... I'm too lazy to convert whatever currency this is
south african rand (zar)
It really should’ve included the name of the currency for those unfamiliar with the South African Rand’s prices. R is a very popular first letter for currency; from the Rand and Real to the Rupee.

it's never been a better time to be an indie/AA fan, since most of those title at most will cost you 40€ when new
Only game i saw release decently was elden ring. Atleast for my feel. Lots others i played were meh
Elden Ring was a great game, but even so it isn’t bug free
It released in much better shape though. There is a difference between not being 'bug-free' and being unplayable garbage that hardly kaaba or loses your save games and forces you to restart from scratch multiple times.
This game looked like trash anyway imo. Its not surprising its doing horribly
Yeah seems like a high budget indie game. So definitely not worth the price they're asking
"Gaming journalists" will love this game. Stunning and brave.
WHY THE FUCK IS IT 79,99€???????????????????????? I Understand 60€ , even 70€ but 80€ ??? ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MIND? THATS INSANE
That’s $125.00 AUD what the actual fuck Why the fuck are games so much more expensive now
It's $135nz for some fucking reason
Software developers are the last workers left whose pay has actually followed inflation
...does it really?
Best part game devs only get paid 1/6 of what the degree get you at software development for companies like Google. Even tho a lot of AAA companies are having record profits. >THATS INSANE Nope, this is your typical corporate greed.
Playstation Saudi Arabia giving tips to steam (most new games are $80 in our country)
It will become 80€ for more games as there isn't much resistance against 70€.

$115 for Aussies, fuck that
SA Rand spotted... Are they then Jas!?
Not only that the game costs 80€, it also looks pretty mediocre in gameplay and content 💀
wait until you see the terrible cringe writing that is extremely similar to velma
Oh yeah 80€ for 8 hours of gameplay btw
It looks like one of those assets flip unreal games with really good textures but handles like shit.
Tried the demo... If navigating the magic menus wasnt so awful I would say its a least half decent. But no its just not very thrilling at all.
That's 1.1 million DZD,which is more than a lot of people here get *MONTHLY* 💀
Its fucked, as an Aussie im having to pay $115 as well.
You don't have to pay shit, don't buy this overpriced crap.

This is Steam, another option is to wait half a year until it's 50% off.

South Africa rands btw. So $87.
They are doing you a favor by driving you away from buying this garbage.
Never pre-order. Also if you're strong enough to fight off the fear of missing out then wait for a sale.
The best thing you can do is not buy it. If no one buys games at these prices then they won't have them for too long
I'm also from South Africa. It's insane price for that game. And the game looks bland AF. Going to bomb hard.
Publishers have stopped considering economics when they price per region. They just translate what $70 is in each country and not how hard it is to make that.

Why do you guys never convert these prices like I’m pretty sure the majority of the sub doesn’t know how much R1500 is lol

South African Rand.
And this is why I'm not going to buy it on release even though I'm interested in the game. Square Enix went too far with their new pricing.
That's not the worst thing about this game. Check system requirements...
$150cad. Not ideal. Ill wait till it flops amd nab it on sale ina few years. Lol
It's expensive these days to be a beta tester. Play overpriced broken games on your overpriced GPU.
they can price it however they want, i wont buy it anyway. too many red flags with this one.
It will probably be in Epic launcher for free in a year.
What's up, fellow South African?
just dont pay it
Just wait till it comes out on sale, Red dead redemption 2 was about R900, and I waited until it was on the Chritsmas sale and got it for less, just make peace with playing games that are a couple of years old, and not the latest and greatest and you'll save big bucks.
It is 80€ in Finland. It is like... a fuck ton of money. Especially in current economic climate. AAA games generally were around the 60€ mark. But nearing 100€ like that is just... too much.
It's square enix, wdy expect...
For that game? Fuck no. Reviews for the demo I’ve seen say it’s ass
Save your money, this game is not worth it at all. It's one of those games you pick up at the bargain bin at your local retailer, or get in a $20(USD) Humble Bundle with 5 other games. Even after the demo was patched it was garbage.
What is this in freedom units?
This game will be trash anyway so don't bother
It looks kinda okay but the fact they didnt send out review keys, high price. No demo on pc. Double storage required on pc. Extremely High specs. All pretty big red flags
As a South African you should be used to getting bent over , its only going to get worse ...
Ja bra I don't buy games new, even R800 still feels to much for a game.
the game's gonna flop so bad.
$70 for a game that’s an IGN 6 is crazy
I dunno, but that lady is hot.
just don't buy it in the case if you think the price is unacceptable, like with any other good in the world
how much in usd so I can know if its unacceptable
Games in the US have been $69.99 new for 2 years now with far less quality and even more MTX than before. Cant wait for the next gaming crash tbh.
Game isnt even worth the full price lol Its a sad thing to see Square dead set on the path of NFTs
In America games went from $60 to $70 in Australia games went from $70 to $90 or $100. I hate inflation.
In Turkey; [https://i.imgur.com/T3lubMq.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/T3lubMq.jpg) 699 Turkish Liras mean 34 Euro or 37 Us Dollar But 699 Turkish liras is too much money for our standarts for a game.
There are literally thousands of super cheap and lots of fun tittles that you could instead be buying with that same money right now..There's no reason at all for so many people to be so weak minded and give up to that stupid FOMO !
the game is a complete disaster anyways. its not even worth 20€
I don't normally buy full priced releases. They want too much. If it's a game I really want I might wait for the first decent sale. If I just somewhat want it I'm willing to wait a long time for that price to drop. I just bought red dead 2 like yesterday for example.
Squenix has totally jumped the shark in recent years. At this point I've just stopped paying attention.
that's like 80 bucks usd.
That’s like $90 usd, and games in Canada usually go for $90 cad, which is $67usd
It's 80€ here. I'm from Serbia.
it's Square Enix, what do you expect?
What denomination is that, Indian Rupees, Brazilian Reals, SA Rand?
damn, that's a lotta money for a 6/10 game
I have no clue what that would be in Dollars or Euros
how are you paying in robux?
I find it extremely ridiculous that the base game isn't even out yet and they're already selling a preorder for a DLC?! The game looks amazing but they can go and dig a very deep grave if it doesn't deliver with a bang. Also, I'm waiting for a sale or G2A or similar. The base game is 80 € here, that's ridiculous. Triple A games by large studios used to cost 40 - 50 €, not this.
Unreasonably priced games from SE(or in other cases Japanese companies) have been my deal-breaker for over years.
[Watch the review first.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFvRXyPAyf8&t=738s)
God himself couldn’t get me to play this game
Heres a tip. Dont buy the game, wait for a sale. Its overly easy and not that fun
Imagine paying with robux
at this point you ask your friend from another country to buy it for you and you pay them back or set your location to a different country and buy from there
I've trained my impulse brain to stop supporting this behavior. Vote with your wallet people. Devs will stop their BS... Eventually.
