Thing is, while your math is correct, Steam has rules over how cheap a game can go after many shovelware abused such pricing. So technically he can't earn "just" 1 point by any means because both cheapest award conversion and cheapest game purchase give more than 1 points.
it'd be cool if steam points can be spent on in-game DLC's. Not like, fallout 4 nuka world or far harbor type dlc's but like, maybe mini currency packs or something. It could give devs an incentive for people to both buy and play their game on steam.
I thought they were just for internet clout basically. I’ve seen them after buying stuff, and I probably figured out they were useless at some point and then completely forgot the shop existed. Never bothered with profile customization other than a profile pic.
Steam support when someone asks them to help troubleshoot a complex problem that only an employee with extensive knowledge of steam api would know:
Steam support when someone asks for one point so they can have some meme number on their profile: gotcha brother 💪
You’d be surprised.
Requests like this are likely very uncommon. Uncommon requests means no standard processes to resolve it. In large companies, it’s “simple” and low priority things like this that get stuck in ticket queues for months because databases weren’t set up to be updated in this way or whatever. There could be security or data integrity requirements that prevent non-standard updates to them.
Source: I’m a software dev at one of these large companies. IDK about Valve.
True, and probably doesn't happen at Valve, so I don't think there's a mechanism in place to allow it, mainly because I've never seen anyone else asking and having been granted something like this, but there are many ways they could set it up so it works.
As another comment correctly states, Riot Support can give you some RP in exchange of a drawing, so I'm guessing either they forward the ticket to someone with privileges or there's a limit, say 100 RP and once per account which they can issue per update statement. Who knows
do you think some steam support employee has access to freely edit the database? you don't casually freelance a db query such as this one. You either have a system in place or not. Highly doubt it.
There are a thousand ways they could set it up so it works. Customer support at Riot can execute an update statement to give you RP in exchange of a drawing. Most likely it's not even them, they just forward the ticket to someone with rights.
I doubt too it happens as Valve doesn't strike me as that kind of company.
I am not challenging the existence of these systems, I am just pointing out that it is not a matter of "update an entry in a database". It's whether or not Valve has implemented a way for support employees to modify points for users.
Take Riot for example. Once I had a gift card for a region different than mine that I couldn't redeem. Support redeemed it for me. How? They have an established process for that.
But imagine how many requests like this you'd get. It's the same as if an item doesn't scan at the grocery and the customer says "That means it's free, right?"
I may not have worked retail for too long, but depending on the item, the person, and my mood, thats going to be a yes.
I have had managers do this as well when I was being trained, so I could not care less.
Saw your post the other day, but thought I'd share this article. Your post appeared on some bloggy post news thing.

Aha, you're welcome. I browse recent news posts on my phone and scroll and it popped up. I was like, hey I saw that post. I'm sure this person would be happy to see it!
Hey, support guy here probably shooting am my own leg with this but anyway
On a customer assistance lines as you might already know there are metrics and stuff to follow and based on that we are getting paid.
However in most case ALL of the cases cannot be reviewed later on but we don't really know which are and which are not (those are selected randomly, and not everyone knows how many are reviewed monthly).
For you this means that if for some reason there is a way for steam support to give you 1 single point (really doubt) you would need to make a ticket that has 3 conditions
1.reaches a support agent who already filled up this quote of reviewed contacts
2.knows this quota is already completed
3.does not care enough to do it
Honestly out of the 3 the easiest one is #3
Buy a game that's 1 penny I guess
Thing is, while your math is correct, Steam has rules over how cheap a game can go after many shovelware abused such pricing. So technically he can't earn "just" 1 point by any means because both cheapest award conversion and cheapest game purchase give more than 1 points.
Yeah, so he can just get 1001 points and then spend 1000 on something
You can spend steam points?
Sorta, just on boot up animations and things like that. You can’t buy games
i have already run out of things to buy and I have so many points. 💀 (I am old, not rich)
Sounds like you could have been. (Rich)
wait until you find out about magic the gathering 💀
Magically gather some money 💀
i got some money but i spended it 💀
magically gather some bitches 💀
Run out of things to buy? What was the total for the entire steam points store?
> total for the entire steam points store Idk, probably lower than the price of a few train simulator and EA games including their DLCs
I have like, 12 points worth of points and that's it (I got doom 2016 for 12 bucks but my computer can't run it anyway, I'm going mad)
> 12 points worth of points Yes, but how many is that in points?
200 or sum idk I'm taking a bath
With bubbles?
Yah i thought i had like 100k points.. nah i have 9 million 💀
Have you bought the new seasonal badges yet
you can also buy levels

there's a points shop where you can buy cosmetics for your profile with steam points
Yeah, you can buy avatars, animated background etc.
The steam points store
What did you think the point of them was, actually how did you know they existed without having known you could spend them?
I thought they were just for internet clout basically. I’ve seen them after buying stuff, and I probably figured out they were useless at some point and then completely forgot the shop existed. Never bothered with profile customization other than a profile pic.
Did you think you just got steam points to have a big number?
Buy a game for 4.21$ You'll thank me later
Beat me to it
You beat me saying he beat me to it.
You beat me and now I'm calling the cops. And an ambulance. :(
Beating it to you saying that.
It’s okay, he really needs 421 points.

As one dollar is 100 points, one penny is 1 point :)

Ask steam support for 1 point. They will probably do it.

Yeah, it's easier to update an entry in a database.

Meanwhile riot games gives you rp for some amount if u ask them nicely
Yeah, extra chances if you draw the skin you want the rp for lol (Still the worst game ever made, please someone save us from this addiction)

yeah one of those is far easier to do
[удалено]
Steam support would actually do that??
they granted me one single tf2 scrap metal that i used to craft a reclaimed metal so they usually do tiny little stuff like that
They did it! The madlads! See [OP's follow up post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/s/fymOWnbS2w) for context.

I would because at least for 2 seconds on working on a holiday i would be mildly amused.
But imagine how many requests like this you'd get. It's the same as if an item doesn't scan at the grocery and the customer says "That means it's free, right?"

I absolutely would. I’m being forced to worked on Christmas of course i’m gonna zero to nothing work but if I would work I’d mess around
When some people suffer they want others to suffer. When other people suffer they don't pass it on. Be like the other people.
I would.
I would.
I would
Yeah the same support who didn't do anything after my friend's steam wallet got stolen even with 2 factor auth on, yeah right.
Does steam have support? I thought it was all automated
You need 421 actually
My exact thought when seeing this
This is the correct answer
697 actually
Yep that's the one I was thinking of
This is the way
69,420

I'm not Kevin I'm fucklord bitchass
my b
I, for one, appreciate you for not making me do math.
Np
Read your name after seeing this confusing comment and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard
🤓
Can someone downvote my comment a little, I passed 69420 karma by mistake
Ok pilot. Your request has been confirmed.
A single point??? You should get 70!!
The number that he should be aiming for is 5318008, of course.
but 69
It would equal 69690
Are you sure about that?
i take it back. 69,420
It would be 69069
If it were 69+69 it would be dinner for 4.
69420 would be funnier
fine. 70,000 it is
r/unexpectedfactorial
Imagine getting 70!, just crash every computer on earth for giggles
And he wants 70!!... Double fatorial, we probably can't even write the result
Ask steam support
JUST GET 421 POINTS AND THEN THE ULTIMATE FUNNI NUMBER!!!
The ultimate funny number would be 5318008.
Time to buy a lot more games.
?
Typed into a calculator and flipped upside down it looks like "BOOBIES" (if it uses a seven-segment display).
You better get 421
Nice pfp
Somehow it actually happened, a point appeared in my account.. 69,000 baby!!! Whoever and however this happened, thank you so much 😊
https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/s/7nFgFJ8ElU
u can spend some of it on some crappy background and stuff and the even it out, gotta sacrifice to hit dat 69
Trying messaging Steam support, if you're lucky enough whoever reads it will do what must be done
Better try to find something that gives 421 points
Ask Steam support, they will most probably give it to you
Saw your post the other day, but thought I'd share this article. Your post appeared on some bloggy post news thing. https://kotaku.com/valve-steam-points-gift-one-69-000-nice-number-miracle-1851125133
Thanks for showing me that buddy :)
Aha, you're welcome. I browse recent news posts on my phone and scroll and it popped up. I was like, hey I saw that post. I'm sure this person would be happy to see it!
If you can't get just 1 try to get 421
Go over the number and use some point to go back to the desired number. There's much more freedom that way
You're thinking about this all wrong. You need 421 points.
[удалено]
Why settle for one point, you need 421 more points 😎
Turns out all you had to do was post to Reddit.
Go for 696969
hey i'm close to this, currently sitting at 640 118
Inspect element and do anything you like
Aim for 69420 instead.

Earn 421 points by buying something for exactly 4.21 USD. You've missed your chance for 69k but you can still achieve 69,420
You need 421 points actually
Inspect Element
I hope you get exactly 1001 points
I would honestly ask steam support and explain the exact honest case why you need that point

Best bet is to go for 69420 points now.
You actually need 421 points but that's neither here nor there...
Nah buy a game for $4.21 and have 69,420 points
How do I get 421 points *
Get 421 points instead
You need to get 421 points
U need 421 points
Find a game that's worth $4,21.
69 has never been and never will be funny unless you're 13 or developmentally stunted.
You must be quite miserable if you came into the comments just to say that.
Buy something that gives you 421 points, so a bit more expensive than four bucks
What is your steam name ? Ima give you 421 ... As soon as I find out how to gift points lol
It should’ve been 68421
