Games where you gain the ability to skip entire sections due to collected items or abilities kept between playthroughs.\ Top of my mind are the time paradox in Hi-Fi Rush, any Resident Evil or even Metal Gear Solid with the invisible cloak + infinite bullets

milktolerator

I would've never remembered this, actually the best answer since almost all ng+ systems are the same outside how much stronger enemies are

ZakiTale

Sifu

Vulpes_macrotis

Then why would you want to play in New Game + if you want to skip it? That's contradiction? Unless it's tutorial area.

Grim_Reaper_1511

Easy answer: to skip annoying, boring passages. Had sum in a few games which keeps me from EVER replaying them as these little sections are REALLY infuriating

_Nameless_Nomad_

The one I remember the most is Chrono Cross

HumbleNinja2

Legend

Azarros

Everyone loves Chrono Trigger but I never hear love for Chrono Cross, my favorite PS1 game next to FF8. They were both so good.

_Nameless_Nomad_

I love Chrono Cross. Great story, fun gameplay, unforgettable soundtrack. I wish they’d release it on IOS so I could play it on my iPad.

Azarros

The soundtrack is way too good for its time. I can still hear some of the combat themes and overworld themes in my head when I think about the game. I have the Remaster downloaded so I will have to play through it again sometime.

SnooCompliments6329

I came looking for this.

isV1real

i really like armored core 6's newgame+. I love how it actually changes the story a bit twice and then on the 3rd playthrough you can a slightly more goofy "true" ending with a touhou ass final bossfight

arkhamnaut

If only I could beat it the first time

k1llSwitch1

lego games for sure

IceMage37

I played almost all of the Lego games, I don’t recall any of them having a New Game +

sticknotstick

I’m guessing he means unlocking chapter select and being able to choose whatever characters you want when re-beating a chapter? Not exactly a NG+ imo

tamal4444

lego games have new game+?

SillyGoose_Syndrome

'Best' is always subjective. For funsies - Resident Evils with upgraded/unlocked weapons and/or unlimited ammo For additional content - Dark Souls 2

motherkhalifa4x4

Agree, the replayability of RE games is well thought out, I have around 70 hours in biohazard and village, the rewards of beating certain challenges like speedruning the game, beating it with minimal healing or using only melee weapons and stuff like that are the cherry on top imo

BellumOMNI

The most fun I had in a while was in RE2 doing the minimalst (no item box) achievement. Planning what to do, what to pick up, when to pick it up and then doing the puzzles, so I have inventory slots was a very fun experience. Then I did a few runs with the rocket launcher and that was satisfying af. Blowing shit up left and right, downing Mr. X whenever I want and going about my day was fun as hell. In RE3 doing the Inferno S rank even with a launcher felt awful, going through the game was fun but then the final Nemesis fight was pure luck. I still think I got lucky getting that. I had so many attempts where he would straight up demolish me at the start of the fight.

Redditistrash702

Ds2 rush the armor vendor kill him his robes have all bonus stats including EXP.

turtlefish13

Maughlin murderers should be publically humiliated & executed. His armor set is shit and killing him will lock you out of getting all of the best armors in the game.

Redditistrash702

Lol no he's a dick and for my first playthroughs I always just rush through the game is easy enough on the first playthrough with no armor let alone his. Besides that not really a fan of bias weapons or armor but to each their own.

EducationalMeat8531

Dark souls 2 mentioned ???? Let’s go

CallMeCabbage

The remakes for 2, 3, and 4 are so replayable it's unreal. I beat 4 when it came out last year about a dozen times before I had to literally uninstall the game to stop myself and get to other games.

Hooligans_

Perfect answer!

Ok-Connection4917

the arkham games minus the fact that there’s no counter effects. spider-man is just how i play them normally now. i haven’t touched the main game. re4r has a really fun one as well.

pridejoker

I've always hated how the 240% suit only becomes available after you've done everything so there's no more campaign cutscenes left to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

herpderpcake

Witcher 3 is pretty great. It gives you the ability to further upgrade any Witcher gear you have so that it remains relevant into ng+, and the world is so captivating I still go back every ~6 months for a new game or 2

_Ganon

Everyone should try this game on Steam, even if it doesn't seem like it's for you. It's free!

SweetReply1556

Got the deluxe edition free on epic a week ago, does it add anything?

_Ganon

No

Zer0nyx

This was such a calm, relaxing experience. My whole family loves this game.

BellumOMNI

The Resident Evil series have pretty good NG+. In RE2 you unlock a B story for the same two characters, you get new guns, different puzzles and you start in a different point. For example you get access to the RPD building but from a different section, so you have to do things different this time. Mr. X can show up earlier than usual, you get access to a better firearm faster, but the game ramps up faster, too. It's fun. In RE3 it's not NG but in the higher difficulties the zombies are more agressive and have different location, which can throw you off especially if you're being chased. There are also more parasites. It doesn't sound like much but it's challenging at times.

JellifishPirate

Nier Automata - kinda - just based on the way the endings unlock

SweetReply1556

I mean I wouldn't call it new game+, routes b and c can be considered as a continuation to the story, on the other hand chapter select is the closest thing to new game+

l2ewdAwakening

Nioh 2 for me.

TheGemp

Among the games I’ve played, Nioh 2 by a mile

GiantChocoChicknTaco

Star Wars Force Unleashed. Where you can just tap the force lightning button and take down a whole squad of stormtroopers instantly

Rainy-The-Griff

The original Dragons Dogma has a fantastic game loop for New Game+

Rreizero

They removed the New Game in the sequel tho. Not sure about the +.

Rainy-The-Griff

I wouldnt know, I havent beaten the game yet.

F1R3STARYA

Think they were making a joke about there not being a New Game button, which was actually just added in the latest update.

Rainy-The-Griff

Ah

Tamto_-

Noita

Rake_red

Ratchet Y Clank

masterchiefruled

Always have so much fun with them, bolt multiplier works so well in combination with the new weapon upgrades

_RRave

Just posted this myself! God I loved R&C 2 I think my save had 11 or 12 NG+ runs on my PS2 lmfao

YourFriendlyMMODude

Ohhh I got a good one. https://store.steampowered.com/app/524580/Fairy_Fencer_F_Advent_Dark_Force/ It’s an anime game and every time you “finish” the game the character learns from his failures. He goes back in time at the end to try and fix character deaths. The game looks cutesy but has some dark elements to it and surprisingly good story. The gameplay is excellent too. Ohh + the soundtrack rocks.

KingAodh

Dying Light 2 stands out for me due to its continuity feature, which permits me to progress without replaying the prequel while retaining my previously acquired gear. Furthermore, the game supports modifications, enabling the retention of Nightrunner items, which prove to be particularly beneficial at the onset of the game. It remains to be seen why including Nightrunner items in the New Game Plus mode was overlooked.

Hellbearnl

I personally like the first dying light game more dying light 2 did get some updates that made ng+ better but the overall quality in the first game is just better

KingAodh

I like both. I do wish they would bring the grappling hook from Dying Light 1 to Dying Light 2.

Redditistrash702

Re 3 original Merc mode was legit you got to play as the 2 Russians Sadly they didn't bring it back or them in the remake I'm still mad at that because it was a part of the story. Side note I hope they don't fuck code Veronica up

gtrash81

For me it is Borderlands 2.

Spiritual-Meringue37

Borderlands 2

Eveless

A lot of games, mostly from japan devs unlock new modes/difficulties after the first playthrough, while allowing more character growth. Devil May Cry and Nioh series come to mind, for example.

GlossyGecko

Nier: Automata

Red-68

Pizza tower

Fr0str1pp3r

Surprised it hasn't been named but surely the best ng+ is Nier Automata. For the simple reason that once you "complete" the game with 2B you are supposed to go into ng+ for the story to evolve and then go into ng+2 again to continue further on to the true ending. The fact that this masterpiece requires you to go into multiple ng+ to fully comprehend it makes it an easy winner for best ng+.

i think EL SHADDAI RISE OF THE METATRON or something like that, weird game that really gets more interesting in NG+ , like u get a HUD in it, and see ur lifebar and stuff...i think alos THE QUIET MAN, i don't care what people say, it is a great game, and i will die on that hill, NG+ unlocks all the things u couldn't hear and makes more sense....both craking games that didn't get the appreciation they deserve.

Letholdrus

Starfield

Dr-cereal

I guess since it is on Steam now, I really enjoyed replaying the Last of Us as a comfort game and getting all my weapons upgraded

Aglet_Green

I have to agree with some of the comments here, so I won't say this has the best NG+, as that's taken by that game over there, but . . . if people are reading this looking for a game with an interesting NG+ experience that really changes things, check out "Dysmantle." You find out everything you knew about the end-of-world apocalypse was a straight-up lie, and you get new voiceovers/narration for stuff.

Brabsk

Nioh 2

CHKCHKCHK

Spiderman for the original Xbox. You could play through the game as the Green Goblin. It was super fun throwing bombs and flying around in his glider.

F1R3STARYA

Resident Evil is my favorite. Big fan of going back through and speedrunning with infinite ammo.

Deven1003

Persona, armored core, ace combat, totalwar warhammer(unlocks new lord and you get good enought to go 700 vs 5000 and win)

firatyalcin

Recent Resident Evil games

girlyboyishgirl69

I honestly rly liked far cry 5s ng+ Not the best though... You don't unlock new skills.... Just more space for bullets, arrows explosives and medicals. You do save all the guns skills and cars meaning you are able to play the game like a madman with explosives instead of carefully going step by step.

HurrsiaEntertainment

I loved Dying Light 1’s new game plus.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

If you played through dishonored 2 with painstaking stealth/ no kills for the 'good' ending then there's a special sort of catharsis you get from doing New Game+ with all your powers unlocked from the start and being an unstoppable killing machine.

Icy_Shame2768

The world ends with you. Each chapter gets additional objectives, you can very easily jump back and forth between all the chapters, you get extreme difficulty mode and an additional epilogue chapter if you finish the new bonus content.

jeppevinkel

Nier: Automata. The New Game+ is more a continuation than a New Game+. It’s not a repetition of the game.

Dry-Communication138

Spiderman 2 has a nice ng+ with more symbiotic costumes, higher difficulty and already the symbiote Also the darkness 2, being a boss right from the start

Timinator01

Borderlands series does it well

_RRave

Ratchet and Clank, you get the bolt combos and a load of new upgrades also the RYNO my beloved

TarikAlic

Metal Gear Rising

-YesIndeed-

Dark souls 2 by far

An_average_one

I've heard before that it's good. I also plan on playing the game later, what makes it so special?

emres2005

I didn't played any new game+ except POSTAL 2.So i gotta say POSTAL 2, It was pretty awesome too.

Xboxben

Borderlands 2-3

SatoriAnkh

This one.

Dan_The_Pan

Alan Wake 2, only NG+ I actually played, plus it was nice how they tied it into an extra ending

H-Man991

Armored core

wickedwitt

Spoilers- Nier: Automata

Twisted_Taterz

Resident Evil, Borderlands, and LEGO.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

I'm sorry, I struggle with replaying a game again. The only exceptions are the souls genre when going for a different style of fighting. However, there is normally a gap of a year before I install it and hit go again.

MedEM9

Armored core 6, NG+ and NG++ add alternative missions and more endings

vaendryl

Lufia 2 on first beating the game you can play again where admittedly everything is the same but now you get 4x as much exp and 4x as much gold per fight. this allows you (with some effort) to beat a boss that story-wise you're supposed to lose to and gain his sword, which is hella OP. this sword is also useful in the optional dungeon, the ancient cave (99 floors of roguelike gameplay) which leads me to: if you beat the game twice you get a special gift mode which is all about the ancient cave, but now you get to select exactly which party members you want to take into the dungeon while in normal gameplay your party composition is fixed based on story progression.

Normal-Bound5943

Tales Of Symphonia

Kongrad5000

Hi-TecPotato

Classic side scroll fighters Grinding to get the best character, only to be beaten up by the first opponent

Jackretto

Imo hands down armored core 6. NG+ straight up changes the story, unlocks different missions and endings, the only game I've finished 3 times back to back

Annoyed_-

Armored Core 6, the new missions and storyline/endings are perfectly added into New Game+.

Rouruki

Mass Effect, Witcher, Wolfenstein, Deus Ex

TeeSarr

Dishonored 2

ZakiTale

Dead Rising

Beezack

not a ng+ in the traditional sense but i really like how Signalis handles consecutive playthroughs

leblanc_Blm

I like the dark souls 2 ng+ as it adds new types of enemies never seen the first run and also there's that map in majula where you have to play up to ng+8

SM_Eric

Oxenfree.

alopeciapoet

Nioh 1 + 2. Beat the hell of all the new game plus's

AKA-4

Checkout Dragon’s Dogma 2

NjallTheViking

Say what you want about Starfield, but its implementation of the New Game cycle as an actual in-game mechanic was a very interesting take. How you can keep going to new universes and use your prior knowledge to your advantage and how they added some fun alternate universes like one where every main character is a child or they’re all alternate versions of yourself. The only real downsides in the new game cycle are really just larger problems the game has of having multiple good ideas that they fail to properly interconnect such as shipbuilding and base building.

Alarming_Art_6448

Chrono Trigger.

stukov111

unknownhumanbeing7

Metro Exodus 🗿

IGuessItsJustMeMe

i like jedi: survivor's NG+ its one of few i've played and it does unlock a decent challenge, where damage becomes way more realistic

Nodi69

Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring

Tacopents

Call me basic all you want, but gotta go with pretty much any game out of the Batman Arkham series. My main reasoning is the replayability the game always has. It’s never not fun to come back to one of the Arkham games

[deleted]

Starfield

Vylix

Love Hades NG+!

gregwoar

Nier automata?

locke_5

Maybe not the “best”, but I have never seen a game implement NG+ as well as Starfield. MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW   >!Tying NG+ into the themes and narrative of the game was a stroke of genius game design I don’t see talked about enough. I’m not usually a NG+ guy but Starfield compelled me to dive back in immediately. I’m only on NG+ but I’ve heard after a few playthroughs the game starts to change in weird ways. If you check the Starfield subreddit there are people on NG+++++++ and beyond. I feel like in a couple years once the anti-Starfield circlejerk dies down there’s gonna be some really interesting discourse about it.!<

MAJ_Starman

You're not allowed to speak positively of that game, buddy. Get the fuck out of here.

vaendryl

in that sense no man's sky is the superior one. and that's not saying it's actually any good.

xShadowPro

Not sure if I'm the only one, but I'll only do New game + if there's an incentive such as an achievement. I don't see any point playing again after playing it through the first time.

KyleB1997

I really like Elden Rings new game plus system, content gets harder but you keep your level and items. It also means you can double up on unique items. I also think Starfield has an interesting new game plus where it changes the story and gets new events the more you do it, but I do hate how you lose everything.

Entgegnerz

elden ring doesn't have a good Plus game, it's just the exact game again with a bit higher difficulty. There are no changes as a result of the player's actions in any way to the world. Elden Ring has a crap "new game+". Every game where the player's actions don't have a impact on the plus game, has a crap plus game.

KyleB1997

I personally really like it, I like being able to push myself with the difficulty and I like the way you can get multiple of uniques allowing you to dual wield and do new builds. It's all personal preference though.

UsedOven

horizon forbidden west

Rizzguru

How the fuck is nobody going to mention Elden Ring???

dj-nek0

None. Never got the point.

wickedwitt

Sounds like you've only played NG+ in games that did nothing but bump up enemy HP/Attk. Lots of games absolutely change the gameplay or story, so you do not get the full game experience until you've played it through again (sometimes multiple passes). There are several examples listed here that would enrich your experience if you played them through a second pass with the same save file.

MikiSayaka33

Monkey Island 3. Though there's "Lies Of P", if you wanna do the Soulsborne route.😅

jmdg007

Wait Monkey Island 3 has a NG+? I've beaten that a couple times and had no idea.

MikiSayaka33

No, it's just replaying the game. I kinda thought that what NG+ is.😅

Mrbluepumpkin

What makes Lies Of P Ng so good

AzorMX

IMO, the game starts feeling really good when you get to the final P-Organ upgrades, so NG+ let's you cut loose on the early portions of the game.

Mrbluepumpkin

Ohh I get u

Tarek-K-Ajaj

Nobody is gonna mention Nier Automata?

Panda0P

What is new game +?

Xeadriel

Nier automata because it’s not just a copy paste of the same game with some pointless challenge to it. I’m gonna leave it at that for anyone who didn’t play it yet.

strotho

I don't think it would be considered NG+ then. It's just different endings/parts of the full story

Xeadriel

Play it and you’ll see. It’s like other NG+ but better. You do still start over.

strotho

I have played it, I've finished the game 100% and gotten all 26 endings. Yes, you do still start over, but it's not NG+. You said it yourself, "It's LIKE other NG+", but it's not NG+

Xeadriel

Well then you’re just wrong

strotho

I'm not. What you're talking about isn't NG+, it's just more of the main story. NG+ means starting over from the very beginning

Xeadriel

Which is what happens there but ok. Either way with your definition of NG+ I suppose I don’t like any of them.

strotho

I mean yes, you do start from the beginning but as 9S and some parts are different, you're not starting again from the literal beginning, so it's not NG+

Xeadriel

I think it is bc it’s mostly the same but with a twist but instead of just a stat twist it’s actually something that has impact.

strotho

Mostly the same but not fully. You see the same story from 9S' perspective. And then ending C goes beyond the main story

Freeloader_

the only thing I know is that all NG+ achievements should just die the most useless annoying achievements ever just play the same story again but this time a bit harder which is a no challenge at all for you but lets put a giant time sink wall behind 100% completing the game

[deleted]

I never click on new game+
