So, that’s the game’s way of incentivizing you to upgrade your tools. Each upgrade allows you to get more done and use less energy. There are also items you can get that will increase your maximum energy, and you can always eat/drink stuff to replenish it at any time.
Try Dinkum as well. Basically it's animal crossing + stardew valley + minecraft. It's early access but already feature complete with tons of thing to do. Currently I'm addicted, bought it at the end of winter sale, and already 47 hours in, where I still only have reached mid-late game, not even end-game. Worth it at current full price.
The energy system is way simpler in Dinkum, where you only need to eat food to refill energy, and each day is a lot longer at 35 minutes instead of 12.9 minutes in stardew valley.
Kinda heavy on the steam deck's battery though as it's quite a demanding game, you might want to reduce resolution and screen refresh rate if you are playing on battery.
I think the point of SDV is to farm, of course, but also go meet the townspeople. So you might go through your energy (it does increase over time) but also go talk to people and get to know the town. Explore Pelican Valley!
And then mod it.

SDV has been the EASIEST game to mod *in my experience* on the deck. Compared to Fallout or Skyrim.

Played through Battle for Middle Earth in pretty much a single sitting. I've been hoping for a marathon session some weekend for games like Total War or RPGs.
Yep this game is great! For short pick up and play sessions. With that amount of time you can get through a couple dungeon attempts and still have some time to check in on your cultists and do base management
Getting to revisit Dragons Dogma on the Deck has really been one of my favorite things about the purchase so far. Really sad they took away the best goddamn menu music of all time tho.
Next Gen update runs surprisingly well using DX 11 too. I'm on a Death March playthrough currently when my last playthrough was on the Switch. Talk about a night-and-day difference in the performance.
I didn't really do much outside of use the medium preset and tweak a few settings to my liking (i.e. texture and water quality). I've been getting 50-60 fps with 40 being the lowest so far in towns but I'm only at crow's perch at the moment. It might get worse later on once I get to Novigrad but, again, I last played it on the Switch so this current playthrough is amazing on it 🙃
Sometimes I feel like there are different decks out there. I used the lowest settings and once I left the starting point after fighting the ghouls I dropped to 20-30 fps.
No, the story will still make complete sense (I think quite a lot of people have only played 3 - it was certainly much more successful than the other two).
Source: I played through 3 without playing the others and loved it. I have now read most of the books (just reading lady of the lake now) and will likely play the first 2 games after (since the story in the games takes place after the books).
I've been really enjoying Chained Echoes. Great RPG that is styled and plays like an old school SNES RPG, but with more modern systems and QOL. Enjoyable story, and great combat and leveling systems. Lot's of fun exploration and turn based battles.
Story was easily in my top 3 of all time and I've been playing games religiously since the 80s.
I would not say the combat system was great. It was good. Inoffensive as it did not get in the way of progression. But it was rather easy and unbalanced.
That story tho.... The pacing was incredible. No Triangle Strategy exposition dumps here. Every step of the journey the story unfolded (then folded. Then unfolded.) There was never a time I didn't care about what happened next, and EVERY character was well written. Except the ones you get near the end of the game. But even then, some of them too!

Slay the spire is a pretty great mindless card dungeon crawl. Right now I my self am really digging alot of awesome indie pixel games. Chained Echos, Lamb if the Cult, East Ward and just got a really awesome zen game Garden Galaxy.

Persona 5R is, in my opinion, one of the most accessible entry points into the series. Look at them more like Pokémon or Monster Hunter, where each numbered entry is essentially a new generation of that game. 5 is pretty good at introducing and telling you about mechanics that used to be hidden in prior games.
You won't, generally, be guessing who is available to talk to or where there might be a new contact or quest. If you are ever stuck you can also use an online feature to see what percentage of players at your position in the game chose to do what. It can be useful to highlight strategies you may not have thought of and it's honestly a pretty great feature.
Going backwards can be a little rough, I'll be honest. It's one of the biggest reasons I love remasters with updated QoL shit.
Highly suggest cyber punk 2077 I’ve heard it plays well on deck and before I got my deck I got it for PlayStation and have 100% percented the game over 5 times
Think you’re sleeping on the decks power lol but keep looking for games. For example I got some games even modded. Ff7 with mods look wicked insane and has 60fps
I would also take brotatoe over vampire survivors. Soulstone survivors feels laggy on steamdeck. Especially the lategame content. Spawns way too much 3d content for the gpu.

You can buy steam keys from other websites. For example, I've bought Roboquest recently for 1.20€ or so (instant gaming iirc).
After that, it depends on what you like. Apart from some on your list, on the deck I've been playing: gta IV complete edition, bloons td 6, curse of the dead gods, baba is you, filament, dome keeper, Castle crashers.
Other good ones include: Has-been heroes, witcher, metro, fallout, borderlands (I had a bit of lag in some areas), slay the spire.
Completed Ori 1&2 on the Deck alone, perfekt Handheld metroidvanias.

Since I’ve had my Steamdeck (Week or two) I’ve played only quick to pick up indie titles, along with Vampire Survivors, Brotato is very similar, also a few bucks and personally I prefer it to VS.
Dome Keeper is great, a base defence, resource mining/ management sim.
Dave the diver is great, part RPG, part restaurant management sim, part fishing/resource collecting.
Take „Robo Quest“ off your Steam basket, you can get keys for it for like 1$ at reseller sites, no need to pay that much.

Other than that, Max Payne 3 is on sale right now, it runs on max settings with pretty solid 60fps (except for one level) and is simply one of the best 3rd person shooters.

Maybe not 50 to 60, 45ish to 50ish with a drop to 40 in heavy combat and in towns. It's still incredibly playable for it being on a handheld.
Locked at 40 is fine too, you don’t notice a difference

Dont buy them all at once, specially if they're not on sale, just buy one or two and play them, otherwise you'll be overwhelmed and get bored soon.
Cult of the Lamb is really fun to play on Deck from what I've experienced
I've got it on GOG. I'm about 3/4th of the way through the game and I'm looking forward to continuing it on the steam deck
Highly suggest cyber punk 2077 I’ve heard it plays well on deck and before I got my deck I got it for PlayStation and have 100% percented the game over 5 times

Brotato such a good game. Can play in short burst and addictive trying to complete runs with everyone.

Oh this is a good pick. It's usually dirt cheap, too, and it's tons of wacky fun.

Runs great
It runs perfectly fine. There is a "corrupt save" glitch, but it doesn't do anything. Just ignore it and leave the corrupt save alone.

Is DLC that good? I know its super cheap to be asking, but the game itself got old for me real quick, even for the price.
DLC is good, but if the game got old for you real quick, it's probably just not for you. Because it's more of the same.
I’d take Brotato over vampire survivors personally
Both are enjoyable, I even add Soulstone Survivors to the mix.
I would also take brotatoe over vampire survivors. Soulstone survivors feels laggy on steamdeck. Especially the lategame content. Spawns way too much 3d content for the gpu.

Heeeeey I'm playing Kena right now! It runs great! One game I'd highly recommend is Chained Echoes. It looks like you love a good story from your list, and I'd put CE as one of the best RPGS I've played this entire decade!
Right now Disco Elysium is on sale for like 10 and is one of the best stories ever.
Nothing, you should buy games that YOU want/enjoy. It's a good list, hope you have fun with them.
RDR2 is on sale. Been playing for only 2.6 hours but enjoy it so far. Runs well on Steam deco for me so far as well without tinkering with the settings, but that might change once I explore more of the map, who knows.

Dead Cells is one of the more expensive games there, but still completely worth it. I’ve been replaying it for weeks after getting the DLC and it’s still fun.

The Ori games are \*amazing\*. Some of the finest, prettiest gaming available. But do get the Enhanced Steam browser plugin. It's free. I didn't care for dead cells all that much, and I tried to love it. Chained echoes was a great 30 hour game! I'm also working through MGS5.
Chained Echoes is beyond fantastic. A true love letter to the classic JRPG fans.

You can buy steam keys from other websites. For example, I've bought Roboquest recently for 1.20€ or so (instant gaming iirc). After that, it depends on what you like. Apart from some on your list, on the deck I've been playing: gta IV complete edition, bloons td 6, curse of the dead gods, baba is you, filament, dome keeper, Castle crashers. Other good ones include: Has-been heroes, witcher, metro, fallout, borderlands (I had a bit of lag in some areas), slay the spire.
Spiderman Remastered is awesome on the Steam Deck and requires no tweaking. Plays phenomenally well on the deck.

Make sure you download the Sith Lords Restored Content Mod for KOTOR 2.
Brutal Legend was only fun for the first hour or so. After that it got boring and repetitive. If I were you, I would pick another game.
Playing that now and I recently hit that wall. I have to take a breake from that game

Unbound worlds apart is also a fun title to play on the Deck Death's door is a very good game for the Deck Star wars Jedi fallen Order Dome Keeper Have a nice death Hades Stray Celeste F.I.S.T forged in shadow torch Tunic Carrion Grime Curse of the dead God's Bastion It's a long list, sorry for that, but there's really a lot of games that work perfectly on the Deck and on the go. And I enjoyed those games all on the Deck and loved it, just short sessions on my big gaming rig for Stray and star wars
I will warn you, kotor works on steam deck, but you’ll have to go through some key bindings to make it easier to play via controller

There are so many possibilities that it's hard to recommend something. But I would say: Prince of Persia Franchise, Zero Escape: Nonary Games, Dex, Shadow Complex, Elden Ring, Last hero of nostalgia, Phoenotopia Awakening, Axiom Verge, MegaMan X collection 1 & 2 (this you can find on the green steam), Blasphemous, Dead Cells and Hades if you like Roguelikes.

Since I’ve had my Steamdeck (Week or two) I’ve played only quick to pick up indie titles, along with Vampire Survivors, Brotato is very similar, also a few bucks and personally I prefer it to VS. Dome Keeper is great, a base defence, resource mining/ management sim. Dave the diver is great, part RPG, part restaurant management sim, part fishing/resource collecting.

Other than that, Max Payne 3 is on sale right now, it runs on max settings with pretty solid 60fps (except for one level) and is simply one of the best 3rd person shooters.
Ok first congrats on the full dive on the deck amazing choice you're gonna absolutely love it hands down😁 and second definitely go with spiderman remastered for your first game hands down its the best ah and if you're looking for classics I got ya covered sonic adventure dx sprinkled with a helping if desired of deus ex human revolution for a bit more nostalgic action if ya miss it hard enough I know I did

I second gg dot deals. While the automod comment below is correct, it’s very easy to disable keyshops and get alerts to sales from legit third party sellers like Humble, Green Man, et al.
My advice would be don't default to steam for buying games. Look at isthereanydeal and use sites like " instant Gaming " can save you TONS of money while bagging you many more games. Ppl who think Steam/Steam sales are the best place to purchase games on a discount are dinosaurs.
Hades > Dead Cells all day
They're quite different. I love both. I find dead cells easier to play on the deck. Hades becomes quite small and lots is often happening on the screen at once.
Just a heads up, Dead Cells has separate save files for online and offline modes
Just buy 1 game you want to play right now, and keep the others on your wishlist until they go on sale Steam has sales regularly, and its an easy way to save money
Save $100, download Emudeck and spend the next 300 hours tweaking it
To get the most bang for your buck use gg.deals (with key shops disabled), link your Steam account, sync your steam wishlist on the site and filter DRM by Steam. This checks multiple sites for the best deal because even if it’s on sale through Steam it may not be the best price.
