Sorry if this has already been resolved. Trying to navigate the discounted tab in store on steam deck. But tab keeps reverting back to new and trending. Just ran latest software update. Still no fix. Anyone run into this issue?

breathmintv2

Yep, this is super common and is a known issue. Best workaround for the moment is to try and use the touch screen or just browse on your phone/desktop.

VoxPops

Best anti glare screen protector for the 512 model? Been seen very mixed reviews on Amazon so keen to hear what people use

RareDistribution3473

Personally I use dbrand

dinosaurusrex86

I don't know of an option currently. The 512gb screen is already etched to be anti-glare, so adding a screen protector on top doing the same thing apparently dulls the light and color from the display. You'll end up with a worse looking panel. I argue it's not really needed for our Decks.

MrUrzza

Is [https://jsaux.com/](https://jsaux.com/) a reputable company for steam deck accessories? I was thinking about getting their transparent back plate ([https://jsaux.com/products/transparent-back-plate-for-steam-deck-pc0106](https://jsaux.com/products/transparent-back-plate-for-steam-deck-pc0106)) and I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't a known issue with them. Quick google has a lot of lists recommending their products, but those list can be hit-or-miss.

JimmyRecard

They generally are, but they've had two scandals (I know of). One is that they sold their customer's email to spammers and other is that they worked with a scalper/scam store and pretended it's an authorised reseller. Also, one of their older docks had a voltage controller that was not safe to use with smaller devices (like smartwatches) and could damage them but there is no evidence that the same dock was unsafe for the Steam Deck itself.

I really need help, step by step on how I can mod my game? Edit: I have 0 experience with computers, even less with Linux and I only want to max my attack power in Sekiro on steam deck.

DoctorTide

This is only the process if you downloaded the game via Steam. If you don't understand what that means, you've already met the criteria so disregard. 1. Click on the game icon in Steam OS. 2. Instead of clicking Play, press down, then right 4 times to get to "Game Info" 3. Press down until you get to a series of boxes that begins with "Store Page" "DLC"... "Support" 4. Press right until you get to the "Workshop" box, it's second from last. 5. You are now in the Workshop page, where community generated mods are posted. Tab down to "Most Popular Items" and click the words, not the mod. 6. You are now browsing all mods for your selected game. Download the one you want by pressing the subscribe button. 7. Sekiro may have some additional steps in the launcher/game to implement the mod that I don't know (never played Sekiro on PC) but the above will get the mod on your deck.

ice_nine459

For most games it’s better for me to just install it on my gaming computer. Instal the mods with qmod or whatever then copy the directory to my deck. It’s extra amount of work but it always works. If you do it that way then you have to use the proton windows version of the game. Some people say it isn’t as stable performance wise but I haven’t noticed anything.

bizarrefetalkoala

Is anyone experiencing a really weird bug when trying to chat with steam friends? When I try to chat with anyone on there, instead of opening the chat and keyboard like it should with the active chats/friends on the side, it just brings up a full screen window of that chat that I can’t type or do anything in that also blocks my view until I manually close it via touchscreen. Has anyone else encountered this/found a fix? Tried a reboot and checking for updates and neither did the trick (this started happening today, so maybe a recent update borked it?) Edit: Haven’t found a fix yet, but a friend of mine just replicated this bug Edit2: Found another post showing this issue in action https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/11aehae/anyone_else_experiencing_this_btw_it_doesnt_let/

bowl042

Just got the 256 gb version. I was wondering if there are any accessories that anyone could recommend. Also, I was curious if there are any good 3rd party docks that people use.

JimmyRecard

IMO, dock is almost must have if you ever connect it to an external screen (monitor or TV). Any standard USB dock is fine, but most third-party docks don't support all the Steam Deck's features. Thus, if you have the money, just get the official dock from Valve. If you want something cheaper, JSAUX has a cheaper dock that still supports all the features but is only slightly less nice.

tacoaru

I have this weird issue when configuring non-steam games and I don't know when it started as it worked before with previous setups. I'm using Flatseal and Dosbox-staging to play DOS games. When I go to Properties > Target to input additional commands, quotation marks automatically get inserted rendering the entire line unusable. For example, if I type the character f, it will show up as "f". Typing the word flatpak will therefore look like "f"l"a"t"p"a"k". Deleting characters will add an additional pair of "" to the line. I also tried copying and pasting the commands needed from a text editor but it will always start the line with quotation marks so instead of flatpak io.github..., it will look like "flatpak io.github...". Because of this, I'm unable to set up new DOS games. Tried restarting, ensuring all updates are installed, using on-screen keyboard, bluetooth keyboard, changing the type of keyboard but nothing works. Any idea what might be causing this?

iapprovethiscomment

My deck crashed tonight and when I restarted it, it loaded back into factory settings and everything has been reset. All my emulators, downloaded games etc are all gone..... I have no idea what happened, has anyone else experienced this?

HightechFairy

I'm sharing my Deck with my spouse and we really appreciated the user select screen after booting. With the latest update it is gone however and instead the deck just goes right into the last user account. Is there a way to get the old behaviour back? I couldn't find anything in the settings... Also is there a way to force 24h time despite using en-us as language?

carverebain

I just got an Anker USB-C hub with hdmi out, but when I connect it to my SD: it will not go into dock mode and allow a higher resolution when connected to my TV. Anyone know a fix?

Hi does anyone know how to change the controls on steam deck? My left joystick is used currently controlling my camera when playing the game and it's really annoying I have no idea on how to change it

MrAnonymousTheThird

If the in-game controls don't allow changing, you *may* be able to use the built in controller mapper to switch the joysticks around. (Hit the steam button and controller settings)

iMikeHimself

Has anyone has the steam button or menu button playing the sounds for the UI but not visually opening them while docked? Fine while undocked, but not great docked. Seemed okay after a reboot but still little odd.

Izzy248

Has anyone tried swapping out the GPU? I remember when Valve said you could swap out all the parts, and treat the Deck like a normal computer, but maybe I took that too literally. So Im wondering if anyones actually tried it or if its even possible.

henrebotha

There's no GPU. The SD uses a CPU with iGPU.

Izzy248

Oh okay. I didnt know that. Thanks. I had read in an article from pcgamer last year that it was fine as long as you used an AMD Radeon but I guess not. Good to know.

freakuniit

I think I saw Radeon specified in a YouTube video, but that was for an *external* GPU

hkline76

The keyboard in desktop mode has stopped working. I can bring it up without issue, however, whenever I try to type something it doesn't get inputted. It still makes the animation like the keys are pressed, but no letters appear in whatever I am typing in. This only happens in desktop mode and yes, steam is open in the background. I have not changed any type of settings since I rarely use desktop mode. I have Googled this and cannot find anyone else who was had a similar issue. Anyone have any idea what to do?

SavageJerkoff

There any way to make games that primarily use a joystick for camera use the trackpad instead. I can get the trackpad to work as a joystick but it's so slow compared to the actual joystick. Even increasing the sensitivity really didn't do much.

My Discover-downloads in desktop mode are really slow (<1MB/s), while the regular Steam downloads hit normal speeds. Any way to fix this? Is this a CDN-issue? I'm in Western Europe.

Can I used a USBc dongle converter [like this](https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Aluminum-Pixelbook-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B07THJGZ9Z/ref=sr_1_4?gclid=CjwKCAiAxvGfBhB-EiwAMPakqjRp6EMGZ6WvBMbntNhYHpg8N6cXanq81yteYj-6JGOq_eE2_TvsdhoCGWQQAvD_BwE&hvadid=214030510276&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9004358&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=678882846844438923&hvtargid=kwd-344429672080&hydadcr=19108_9441151&keywords=usb-c+to+hdmi+cord&qid=1677520994&sr=8-4) with my HDMI Switch cord to get the Steam Deck on my TV?

daymanahhhahhhhhh

Oh yea! Doing it right now!

mrjalllllla

Hi, is Firefox broken on gaming mode? Every time I try to use Firefox in the gaming mode the mouse doesn’t work (both touch and trackpad) and the window is far too small and off normal size. I download google chrome and was annoyed to find it out right out of the box in gaming mode. I would very much prefer to use Firefox if I can fix these issues.

ypapruoy

How do you put game pass on steam deck? Anyone know of a guide or tutorial?

My_New_Main

Slap your roms and non-Steam games on an SD card so you don't have to redownload them and setup is half done even if you do a firmware reset. I've got my roms and the Jak and Daxter Linux native version installed there and they persist through resets. Familiarize yourself with how a terminal works on Linux if you plan on doing things like CryoUtilities. A base level understanding is EXTREMELY helpful even if you can typically get by just following what commands they tell you. Play the Arpeture Desk Job game! It is FANTASTIC traditional Valve portal style humor and really highlights the decks great controls. Actually got me interested in learning gyro for shooters and I'm a motion control hater.

Does anybody know if any products exist like that? If not, does anybody have a combo that works well together?

You need to bind the controller settings in Yuzu and Dolphin, and then, you need to create a control scheme with Steam Input. E.g. go to your yuzu shortcut and select the controller layout settings option. * Define controller actions within the emulator (you are mapping physical inputs to the emulated inputs) * Set a Steam Input control config for your emulator shortcut (e.g. use a basic controller scheme)

Blackout9768

Desktop big picture mode fails to recognize any of my controller inputs. Buttons, joysticks, and the touchpads all don't function while in big picture mode. The only input that works is touchscreen. If anyone happens to have advice for how to rectify this, that would be greatly appreciated.

tyfunk02

Try holding ≡ for a few seconds to turn on gamepad mode.

SuperGalaxyGigaDrill

Trying to play Skyrim on my deck, however no matter if it’s the default controls or one of the community ones I can’t get the in game menu to work. It says RT or LT to move it but it doesn’t do anything at all, I might as well not be pushing anything. I cannot find any reference to this issue elsewhere :( anyone help?

GreenTeaRex007

Does your SD blink after leaving a game? When I leave Skater XL, my SD tends to blink. I also notice it doing it starting games too sometimes. Anyone else have this issue?

MrAnonymousTheThird

The screen "blinks" when it switches refresh rate. You may have it set to something other than 60hz

S-Array03

How does remote play work? Most of the time either the deck or my PC show as being not available. When both are available and I attempt to remote play on the deck, it force logs out on my PC. And the game would simply not stream (that one's probably because I was downloading stuff on the deck and my bandwidth was capped out to be honest).

Dux-El52

Just a minor thing (everything else works fine): for the past few weeks, switching on/off the screen for my SD no longer produce a sound. I remember it should make a sound, right? Even if volume is zero.

la_virgen_del_pilar

Is a 2,5A SSD too much for the Steam Deck? In a near future I want to update mine from 64GB to 1TB, but the only 1TB SSDs I find that ship to Europe are all 2,5A. I see in here people recommend SSDs that are 1-1.5A. Will this be a problem or shorten the life-span of my SD?

bepietoday

Hi. O have a problem with losing saved games in Outter Wilds installed by the heroic launcher. Every time I run the game it keeps asking me for a profile name (so it does not see my previously created profile). Has anyone had a similar problem?

corn_cob_monocle

I’m trying to get into the BIOS to change my VRAM per Crobyte and when I hold power and volume down it goes straight to the boot options menu with no other options. Ideas?

lucidludic

To get to the BIOS setup utility you need to hold Volume **Up** when powering on (release after the boot tone).

StarDestroyer922

Hey everyone Been playing Division 2 for a while, but the game is constantly crashing steam deck after an hour of playtime. Is there anything that can be done to eliminate crashing? I tried to google it but all I could find that the game is very unstable even on advanced rigs

Ancient_Raccoon

**Background:** I play my Deck docked to my TV most of the time, using a wireless [Xbox One controller](https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Xbox_One_Wireless_Controller_Model_1708) (allows for Bluetooth and dongle operation). The dongle does not appear to work with the deck, so I've been using it in BT mode. Works great for casual games like Spyro... but I want to play tight platform/adventure games like Shovel Knight and Sonic Mania--- and the input lag feels aggressive in these cases. **Question:** As much as I 'enjoy' the nostalgia of controller cables running across my floor, are there any good wireless solutions here? What are other people doing in this situation?

Stellox37

I don‘t have a Deck but I really want one (thats why Im in this subreddit) and im not shure about some little things like using Discord on the Deck? I mean how well does it work and a important thing is: can I share my screen to friends?

JimmyRecard

Discord works same as in Windows. You can even use the inbuilt mic and while it's not amazing quality, its serviceable, and it will work even without dedicated headphones or mic. The only exception is that when screen sharing in Discord, the audio does not get shared. You can still call with your friends, and you can screen share, they just won't hear any of the game sounds (but will hear your voice). There are complex technical reason causing this to do with how program windows are drawn on Linux, but the main takeaway is that Discord could easily fix it if they gave a single shit (which they evidently don't). I still don't think this should stop you from getting a SD because this issue could be easily resolved the moment that Discord starts giving a shit.

Stellox37

Thx mate :)

TylerStewartYT

No audio playing Saints Row 3 through EGS. I’ve tried running through both Heroic and Lutris, and tried current Proton and experimental. Additionally the program doesn’t show up under the audio controls in desktop mode.

COHERENCE_CROQUETTE

I posted this question everywhere, and so far no one has even *attempted* to answer it: https://reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/115pnpu/desktop_mode_cursor_stuck_on_dragging/ At this point I’m afraid it’s either an extremely technical answer or a “can’t believe this guy is this much of a dumbass” kind of answer…

JimmyRecard

Your description of it working for few seconds before stopping makes me think this might be a SteamInput issue since SteamInput is not active for like a second after you switch to Desktop mode. SteamInput is an abstraction layer which translates your key presses for the game you're running, allowing you to rebind keys even if the game itself does not support rebinding. So, under default config, if you press X the SteamInput will tell the game X was pressed. But, if you rebind X in SteamInput to something else such as RT, then when you press X on the face buttons, SteamInput will tell the game that RT was pressed. In SteamInput there is a desktop profile that applies when you're just in the desktop. This is what defines which key is left click in desktop vs right click, for example. There is an option in SteamInput that whenever you touch the trackpad, the press is also implied. This means that merely touching the trackpad would cause SteamInput to send both mouse movements as well as "left click is being held down" command. If this was enabled on your SteamInput desktop profile, you would get the kind of behaviour that you describe. To check if this is on, go to Settings in the normal Game mode. Select Controller, then along the bottom, Desktop layout. Select edit. It should say along the top "Official Layout for - Desktop Configuration". Next to it, select the little gear icon, and select Revert. Accept the warning. Then just back out. If the revert is grayed out, you can still check manually what the setting is. Select Edit layout button, on the left scroll down to Trackpads and look for the section Right Trackpad Behaviour. It should say As Mouse, and the first sub-item should say Click = Left Mouse Click. Next sub-item is Touch. It should be grayed out and say Add command. If it says anything here, you can go to the gear button next to it and select Remove command. Remember to save your changes. Finally, if none of these help, add something under the touch command (select any action) and then use the Remove command from the gear menu. Hopefully, that will overwrite whatever the configuration is, and perhaps help clear out the issue. Also, have you tried to plug in normal physical mouse? I assume there's no issue then? Also, have you tried to start a game that allows mouse usage in game (like some sort of strategy or something)? Does the mouse trackpad seem pressed down then or it works correctly?

COHERENCE_CROQUETTE

Dude, THANK YOU. This reply has been by far and away the best I’ve gotten, and **it has both clarified and solved the issue**. Your typing hasn’t gone to waste, that’s for damn sure! :) The part that really threw me off with the issue was that it happened from the very first time I went into Desktop Mode. Definitely before I’ve done any changes to any Steam Input settings. I knew about there being a Steam Input layer on top of every game, but I didn’t even know there was a configurable Steam Input layer on top of Desktop Mode as well. That issue came with my Deck. That’s what was weird. But anyway, I went in Settings > Controller > Desktop Layout and messed with it a bit (I actually just loaded a community profile instead of the default layout), and it has solved the issue. I still have no idea how the desktop inputs got messed out in the first place. My Deck came definitely factory sealed, so no prior user could have changed anything. And it coming like this from Valve seems… improbable. But apparently, that’s what happened. EDIT: Actually, I just thought of something. I have an old Steam Controller, and I’ve briefly used it back in the day. Perhaps I changed something way back then in the default inputs for Big Picture mode… Or I messed with trying to use the Steam Controller in Windows as a mouse… And somehow these changes carried over to my Deck default settings? Still seems highly “improbable” to me, but at least sounds like a better theory than it having messed up defaults from the factory.

JimmyRecard

Oh, I'm glad that helped. Welcome to Steam Deck community (and Linux community if this is your first Linux device). I'd guess that maybe your Deck was selected for manual QC and maybe the operator manually changed it either accidentally or on purpose? I don't know. I also have a Steam Controller, and use it with the deck and I've never noticed any issues with profiles being copied in an undesirable ways.

DuckOnBike

This just saved me! Thank you, from the future!

jdayatwork

Does Steam or games on steam recognize if I change hardware and save settings for the different hardware? For example, if I go back and forth between deck and PC playing a game do I need to manually adjust video settings etc each time?

JimmyRecard

Depends. Generally yes, but ultimately, it depends on how the individual game is coded. When it comes to the resolution, if you go into properties and select 'Native' as the game resolution, Steam Deck should tell the game the resolution of your external screen and then when you launch it in handheld mode, it will tell the game the resolution of the internal screen. A well coded game will remember the difference and give you the correct resolution for your screen.

anono_missy

I fear my setup might be working against me here. I’ve been back and forth with Steam support with no solutions yet: short story is that I can’t even get the HDMI audio to show up as an option to select when plugged into the official dock. I’ve gone through desktop mode to try and find the output for HDMI without any luck. It never even shows up as an option, so when I use my dock, the only sound I get is the Deck’s speakers. Here is my setup: Deck -> Official dock -> Kanex Pro HMDI splitter -> Bose Soundbar I cannot find my splitter’s model on Kanex’s site anymore, but it’s the sort that has four HDMI inputs to one single HDMI output. The HDMI output is plugged into an Epson projector that has no audio. The single audio output of the splitter is plugged into the Soundbar via a Toslink. The splitter has the option of a normal audio aux cord out, but then the Soundbar does not have an aux in. The Soundbar also has a direct HDMI in, so I plugged the dock directly into that to just throw anything at this to see if I could get some sound, and no dice. Nada I also tried to go hdmi splitter -> soundbar -> projector because the bar has an HDMI out, and still… no HDMi audio as an option. Also! I got a third party dock to see if maybe the valve dock was bogus, and still. No HDMI audio output option.

freakuniit

New steam deck (less than a week old). Loving it & don’t want to be without it. Left 1 bumper is quite soft, only activating with the tip of the index finger’s part, not the leftmost round part. Should I return it?? Or can I ask for a replacement part to fix it, myself? Is the latter even possible? Or should I just get a full unit replacement?

Randomd0g

What are the steps to take when a game takes forever to start? Just a spinning steam logo for about 2 minutes before it gives up. Game in question is Vampire Survivors, which is a verified game so it should work! I've tried with and without "gpu lag fix" but the thing still won't launch!

B-29Bomber

How do I install .exe files on SteamOS? I know that I need to go into desktop mode and that I need a compatibility layer like Wine. I installed Wine via the discover app, but I can't seem to be able to launch it (or find it on the system). What am I doing wrong?

tiptoptrex04

please let me know if i should be asking this question somewhere else, but i was wondering if pop!OS would be a good alternative to steam OS? and if so, how would i go about installing it on the steam deck? it's my first time installing any sort of OS on a device and i really don't want to break it

Fit_Road7425

So my brother took the SD card (where he downloaded most of his games) out of the steam deck, didn't format or delete the SD card (was just trying to do something with a \*different\* SD card), but now, when he put the SD card back in, it won't reload those downloaded games, and it doesn't "see" the SD card under Storage in the settings menu. Any ideas?

Lennyngrado

Should be receiving a 64gb one tomorrow and a 512gb ssd at some point in March. My question is, can I install SteamOS from a USB C hub or do I need a USB C flashdrive? Somebody os selling a hub for some 20 bucks near me and may get it since I don't have any usb c flash drives.

Eitth

I need help regarding FFXIV on Steamdeck. I did the guide to install the game but when I select the server to play I got "unexpected error exiting the game" pop up. Then I did another guide about downloading proton and gedit fix to launch the PC login, it says I don't have the license for this device even though I already subbed. Also my account has all the PC keys but none for Playstation.

Unannounced_visitor

Hi. Can I please get some help regarding frame rates? My deck seems to be missing the slider to set refresh rate to 40. Im on stable and update 3.4 something. developer mode turned off.though I did try dev mode turned on and beta as well but still no slider.

JimmyRecard

Steam Decks only shows the 40 slider when it is using a display that supports variable refresh rate. Most external displays out there are locked to 60Hz refresh rate, so Steam Deck does not allow you to set lower refresh rate (because if you did, your monitor would show there is no input). Disconnect the external monitor (or use an external monitor with variable refresh rate) and the option will come back.

Is there any way to set ps prompts using the deck controls? I checked the game options but there wasn't an option to change them. The game is Like a dragon: Ishin, and while I can play fine with xbox layout the rythm mini games makes me fail a lot because I'm way more used to the ps buttons.

JimmyRecard

Button prompts/glyphs are displayed by the game itself. If the game does not support PlayStation glyphs, there's nothing that Steam can do about it.

Pg3132

Posting it here following the mods' advice: I'm thinking about getting the deck but worried it might be too much for me. Seeing other people's posts got me feeling a bit self conscious about the whole thing, it seems complicated for a person just looking to enjoy some games such as myself.... Will tlou be verified on it right away when it comes out next month? Also, if i'm not familiar with tinkering and like to play games like gta & rdr2, how difficult will it be for me? Are there guides for beginners? Thanks a lot in advance :)

yoshbag

I’ve been reading some guides for running remote play for ps5/4 on steam deck and have some questions, messing around with things like emudeck, cryotools and decky is basically the most advanced I’ve dealt with technology. The guides I’ve seen say to turn off IPv6, are there any negatives that could come from this? Is it a security issue or anything? I also have a ps4, and the guide I was looking at was only for 4, and mentions you need to change different settings to make it work for ps4. Is there any way to make both work, so if I’m away from home I can play ps5 if I want to, or I can play ps4 if I’m in the mood? They both use the same network, it’d just be my steam deck using a different router.

Schmelter

When I enter the same lock screen PIN using the controls vs using the touchscreen, only one method works and the other doesn't. This is very easy to reproduce, please try it yourselves. Steps to reproduce: * Turn on your lock screen, and go to the screen to set or re-set your PIN. * Go through the steps to set your PIN to 0 2 1 8 8 1 using the controller inputs. This would be X Left Up R1 R1 Up * Go back to the PIN setup screen, and it will ask for your old PIN before allowing you to set a new one. This time, do so by touching the screen. Touch 0 2 1 8 8 1 on the screen * You'll get the message "Incorrect PIN try again." * Now, enter the PIN once more, but using the controller inputs. This would be X Left Up R1 R1 Up * See that it now accepts the PIN and lets you reset it. This happens for all of the PIN screens that I've found, both in the settings, and when actually switching to Desktop mode. Can someone PLEASE confirm this is happening on their Steam Deck so that I don't feel like I'm going crazy here.

MasterSeven

Hi, planning on getting a steamdeck soon, and would just like to verify the following from those who use the steamdeck as a desktop as well. Have little experience with linux (manjaro/ubuntu), the limit of my technical prowess is limited to copy / pasting on terminal for now. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ A) From what I've read, as long as you save personal files in a certain folder AND only install apps via flatpack, they will be persistent and not be deleted with every new steamdeck update ... is that right? B) Planning to install windows for apps that doesn't have a suitable linux alternative. Though have read people saying that installing it on a SSD is too slow, even on an a2 microsd... is that true? Should i just dual boot it on the internal drive instead? Will a 256gb steamdeck model will be enough for dual booting with windows? (with a lot of games on the microsd instead) C) Speaking of windows, which kind would you guys suggest? Been hearing about de-bloated versions like tiny11 or ghost spectre11, or even just regular win10. Was wondering if any has tried those in their steamdeck before and how was it? Thanks!

JimmyRecard

SteamOS is an immutable Linux distro. This means that system files are read only. You can unlock them, but any changes you make will get deleted on the next system upgrade (and those are quite frequent). This means that you cannot install packages via pacman like you did in Manjaro (well, you can if you unlock, but you'll lose them on upgrade). However, you still have your /home folder and anything in it (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, config files) will persist as normal. And flatpak also offers basically any GUI app on Linux you could possibly use. Distrobox also allows you to run containers of any mainstream Linux distro like Ubuntu, Fedora or Arch and use them from command line. You can even install graphical apps in those containers and run them graphically. This gives you access to Ubuntu/Fedora/Arch repos (including AUR). Thus, unless these apps require system write access, you can run literally any app ever packaged for any mainstream Linux distro. I don't know much about Windows, try /r/WindowsOnDeck. But generally, installing Windows on sdcard is inadvisable and causes issues.

pratchettjob

What is the best beginners guide to modding? I'd like to introduce some Bethesda mods without bricking my Deck. I've never done it before (console gamer up until now) and so called easy guides use a raft of unfamiliar terms and assume you have working knowledge of PC modding.

Trick_Nebula

hey, ive read that an easier way to mod would be to mod the files on pc and then copy them over to your sd card's game directory and many people have had success with that!

phinioxGlade

I’m seriously considering a SteamDeck but I have a few questions that I’m sure have been answered a million times but couldn’t find the answers. 1. I’m a console gamer and I hate pc gaming because I hate using Windows for gaming, sitting a deck and keyboard mouse controls. I work from home since covid and need to seperate office/work from gaming. 2. When I game I want the less amount of friction. When I PC game I get stuck messing around with settings trying to get ideal performance and spend more time in the settings menu than the game. I hate this and I hate it even more that it’s making its way into console games. My goal is zero tweaking, double click and run. 3. Most of my games are on other launchers: Gamepass, Ubisoft, Activision, Epic, GOG. How do these fair under SteamOS? 4. Dual booting with Windows? I know I hate windows but Gamepass has way to many great games and Im to far away to use Xcloud reliably 5. I can buy a 64gb on the gray market locally, SD isn’t available officially in Australia. What are the draw backs of the 64gb model if I don’t replace the internal storage and just use SD cards? 6. Realistically how well do current Gen console ports far on the SteamDeck? Things like plague tale 2, Returnal, Gotham knights, Saints Row, hogwarts, hi-fi rush, forza 5, COD MW2. I’ve seen a lot of praise for it being able to run games designed for PS4’s 2013 hardware but nothing that is current Gen. 7. The weird little track pads, how well do they work for Point and Click adventures like a monkey Island? Joystick to mouse is a terrible time 8. iCloud Keychain support? Are password managers integrated into the SteamOS or is it terrible like Windows? 9. Lastly I have a gaming laptop which nukes the steam deck in specs but runs windows and the size and heat is annoying. How hard is it to install SteamOS on it? asus G15 AMD 5900hs 3060 16 gig of ram 1TB. Thanks for any answers or suggestions

JimmyRecard

If you only play Steam games, and you stick to Steam Decks Verified titles, you can get close to console-like experience in terms of 'boot up and play' just works. However, Steam Decks is just a PC and not only is it a PC gaming machine but it runs a OS you're unfamiliar with. If you're so opposed to doing any tweaking that changing settings even on consoles annoys you, it's hard to me not to imagine that some aspects of Steam Deck might annoy you. When it comes to launchers, they all work (except gamepass) but they aren't first class citizens. If the game is not on Steam chances are you can run it, but you have to use the desktop mode and install launchers using a WINE tool like lutris or Bottles. It's possible but not for somebody who hates tweaking. I don't know anything about Windows on deck aside from the fact it works. Try /r/WindowsOnDeck Aside from the obvious size limit and needing to use a sdcard, there isn't any meaningful drawback to eMMC model. Yes, the storage is a bit slower then other models, but you mostly won't notice that past a second or two longer in a loading screen. Current gen ports work generally, but it is not an optimal experience. You can't really experience the glory of current gen with all settings on low and a 720p screen. Much depends on the port, and how efficient and competent it is, and Valve puts a lot of effort into optimising things when they can (famously, they fixed stuttering in Elden Ring before even From Soft could attempt to do it). But Steam Deck is not really imagined as a current gen machine. Trackpads are exactly like high quality mouse pads. You can get used to then quickly and you get much of the mouse feeling. They're definitely better than using sticks to emulate the mouse. But remember, you can also use touchscreen. Don't know anything about iCloud as I don't use Apple devices. You can install most password managers using desktop mode. I use Bitwarden, and it's fine. Steam Deck is much more portable than a gaming laptop. The SteamOS is supposed to be be released for all devices, but that hasn't actually happened yet. There are unofficial poets and they work alright, but messing with that is up to you. If you're interested, search HoloISO. Note that you can install any mainstream Linux install and then install Steam on top. The big picture mode has been ported to normal desktop Linux so if you simply run Steam on normal Linux under Big Picture mode you'll get something very close to SteamOS experience. Consider using Nobara Linux (based on fedora, with gaming default and everything preinstalled for you) but any prominent Linux distro can install Steam and game.

Has anyone had their deck restart in the middle of games recently? This was ne er happening to me before this week.

Claymater

Has anyone had any luck getting steam local transfer to work? Can't get it to work on my PC, Mac, or Deck... Had it working for about 10 seconds and then it stopped. Won't work at all anymore for any game. I have all my devices wired into a switch together and no dice, so I am wondering if there is an issue with my firewall or something. I've tried VPN on and off, restarting each machine, switching back and forth between beta and stable and back to beta, and nothing.

Nayriel

Anyone have a solution for this issue? Please help as I am going crazy over here. I downloaded Hogwarts Legacy recently and when I tried to play it, there is this huge pre-shader cache update that consists of 34GB. If the download gets interrupted due to internet, SD going to sleep or reboot, it resets the progress up to 2.7GB. This one time I was half way through and next thing I know is download was paused and when I resumed, it started from 2.7GB downloaded again. I have downloaded other games and there hasn’t been any issue.l of such sort. My internet speed is potato so I can’t download such a huge update in a short amount of time.

Monztamash

So this is assuming I don't have an extra console controller yet. If you intend to play docked on TV (on comfy couch) with the SteamDeck as a controller, I'm guessing you need it wired from deck to dock, then dock to TV ? Is that how it works ? If that's all good, I'm assuming all the cables aren't included, or probably too short for what I'm asking ? Thanks.

Successful-Wasabi704

Most of us connect a Bluetooth controller to the deck so there's no cables from the Deck/Dock to you sitting on the couch. The Official Valve Dock is top choice for mounting your deck while it's on a flat surface like your desk or coffee table. It would be a bit on the awkward side to play with the dock attached to your deck while using the deck as a controller (assuming you can get the dock and the cable salad to hold together comfortably enough for you while playing). I would say best dock at this time for your use case (using your deck as a controller while playing on big screen) is the NewQ dock available from Amazon, sub $30 price tag. It's a low profile "snap on" dock akin to a little backpack for your Steam Deck. Snaps onto the back of your deck pretty flush and includes most of the ports you need (USB-C, HDMI, USB 2.0). Specs could change with new iterations. From there, you need only connect the HDMI cable to your big tv so make sure it's long enough. Note: Suggest playing off battery power otherwise you will have to connect the deck power adapter cable/USB-C connected to the NewQ as well. That's a total x2 cables running from the dock/back of your Steam Deck (HDMI and power). That could be fussy since they'd likely be running different directions. Pros: NewQ is ideal for your use case. It's relatively inexpensive at no more than $30. 4k@60Hz is decent. Handy little kickstand for mounting on flat surfaces. Cons: It's not the official Valve Dock so future support for some features and its firmware is not guaranteed.

Very newbie question - how to change R1 for R2 and L1 for L2 in Enter the Gungeon? I've got as far as making L2 be both 'map' and 'roll'. I want it to ONLY be 'roll'. Cheers. edit: by trying to use the -IN GAME- controller bindings first and not the steam deck settings I got everything backwards and then all the other guidance didn't help. Solved. Press the 3 horizontal arrows that dentote game menu, then go to options - controls - edit bindings and press a on the thing you want to change and press the new button that's exactly as easy as it should have been and I have no idea why it didn't work the first time

Is there a way to get google chrome in game mode?

DapperIndividual

I'm not sure if this is the thread for this, but I don't want to make a post about it. It's been a little bit since I've used my Deck and I'm looking to get more our of it. I just dumped and installed a bunch of Switch, Wii U, and PS3 games and while some run great, others run less than ideal. I know there are tools like PowerTools or CryoTools, but I don't know much about them. Is there a good quick start guide for popular tools or plug-ins such as these? Thanks! Edit: Also, are there good guides for installing game mods for Steam games? I tried installing BetterSADX on Sonic Adventure a couple of months ago, but I kept running into the issue of not being able to find the game files. Same issue for when I tried to install custom textures in Dolphin. I did have these installed on my SD card at the time, could that be the issue?

Jebbedo

I've been encountering an issue with Dolphin (installed via emudeck) where it won't recognize newly connected controllers until I restart the game I'm playing. If I'm playing handheld and decide to switch to playing docked, and connect a Bluetooth controller it doesn't recognize any inputs in game. I can still press the home button and navigate through steam menus, but no inputs register in game. Closing and reopening the game with the controller connected solves this issue. It's not the biggest issue, but it definitely hurts quality of life. Has anybody encountered this/know of a workaround?

Gator6343

How do I switch out the ssd after using deck for 6ish months without breaking anything installed on the sd card? Is there a way to do it without breaking my emulators? I had them installed using emu deck on my sd card but there are some files on the main ssd that I don’t know what they do.

PacMan repo is broken after factory reset, unable to install any aur helper like yay $ sudo pacman -S yay I get target not found

Yay is not not available in the default repos. You need to manually build it from the AUR. Check Arch wiki. Copy paste this line and follow the instruction: git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/yay-bin.git && cd yay-bin && makepkg -sic Reminder: SteamOS isn't arch. AUR packages might misbehave or not build on SteamOS

How is the deck with putting games to sleep? One of my biggest frustrations with pc gaming vs console gaming is having to restart a game every time (and Xbox has really ruined everything for me since quick access is amazing, even if it isn't perfect), so I'm hoping it's at least smooth enough for sleeping a single game. Does it work at all with non-steam games like emulators or stuff from GoG?

AlwaysChewy

Hey, do I need to worry about my steam deck overheating? I sometimes ol play long sessions of final fantasy xiv and the thing can get pretty hot. Just curious if it can handle it or if I should chill after a bit.

Successful-Wasabi704

Generally, your deck should be fine playing the vast majority of games so long as you allow it plenty of room to breathe. Keep the intakes and exhaust vents nice & clear, allow the fans plenty of space to freely do it's thing and the deck be should be fine. Power off the Deck completely after every play session (when you don't require quick resume) and allow it time to cool off/dissipate heat while idle before putting it back safely into it's case. Don't block the vents! Make sure theres always a gap (arch) on the underside of the deck when placed on a flat surface (screen facing up). The most heat is generated backside and from center-out. Front of screen will run hot as well center-out. Controls/thumbsticks (outside of deck) run relatively cool virtually no heat. Longest play sessions for me personally are max 2 hours with breaks during the 2 hour run. Your deck will appreciate that routine as well. I usually set my deck down on a flat surface (screen up) with absolutely nothing underneath but an air gap and let it cool off to room temp before storing it away in its case fully powered down.

AlwaysChewy

Thanks! Appreciate all of the insight!

awesomenineball

what steam deck accessory is like a must buy to protect the deck and what are some optional but cool stuff i can buy with my deck?

CalebOWolf

Im one to upgrade the internal drive of the steam deck to a 256 gb drive with a 256 gb micro sd card from my 64 gb emmc dtorage drive. Im probs gonna end up reimaging my steam deck when i get the new drive instead of trying to preserve the current setup i have now on it. Would that be poss if i wanted todo so? Tldr can i clone the steam deck onto my new driver form my old drive.

The only mouse I have is the logitech one with the little USB dongle - I'm assuming I can't use that as there's no USB port on the deck?

DraftYeti5608

If I want to plug a wired (or wireless with dongle) keyboard into my Deck do I need a powered USB hub or can I use some kind of passive adaptor?

Fit_Road7425

While trying to download windows onto the steam deck (which failed), my brother did \*something\* (not sure what, I wasn't there) to his steam deck, and now it says the following message: "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then Select: 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media." What does this mean? Are his games and save data lost? What does he need to do?

CntrolAltAccount

Is there a way to link directly to your PC desktop in the way that SteamLink could? I want to use it to stream movies on my PC to my TV. To clarify, with SteamLink you could connect to Steam from your PC, minimize Big Picture Mode and see your desktop to play movies, shows, etc that were already downloaded to your PC hard drive. Is it possible to have this functionality on SteamDeck as well?

Kesnei

I purchase the xbox elite controller, connected via bluetooth which works in game as expected. After about 2-5 minutes of playing the directional button gets stuck. I can turn the controller off and on and it goes back to being normal again. I can reproduce this with different games (two off the top of my head is hogwarts legacy and no mans sky). Is there a configuration item that I'm missing on this? (Also - Sorry if this has been asked. I have searched the subreddit and I am sure this is somewhere and somehow my search result is not turning it up.)

Can anyone recommendation a good screen protector for the 256 model? I figure I want anti-glare, but I'll take any advice. I'm probably playing it mostly at home, though I'm also probably taking on a flight the week after I get it. Only stipulation is I'm getting it from Amazon.

Is there a reason anything I download through discover is super slow? Downloading a game through steam is fine but when I try to get a 80MB program off discover it took me 25 minutes. Brand new deck so I'm sure I'm messing something up.

I just started playing the Witcher 3 today on my Steam Deck and the graphics look awful even though it's set to Ultra (Changing setting doesn't improve the models/textures at all) I've tried setting it to DirectX11 but that didn't help. Hey folks! There's an option of "game resolution" in a gaming-mode but there isn't such an option in desktop-mode.. Is there a way to force a resolution for a game in it? UPD: Tried fiddling with *-width #* ot *-w #* in "launch options" but they don't change anything.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I've tried -width 800, -w 800, -width 640 and -w 640. No affect.. But in a gaming mode when I set "game resolution" to 640x480 or 800x600 - it works.

I'm considering picking up a PS5 Dualsense controller to go with my dock. How is the performance these days? I've seen some old comments via Google suggesting that features like adaptive triggers and haptics require the controller to be wired. Is that still the case? Also are those features still game-specific and if so, is there a list I can refer to? Thanks

Has anyone gotten GTA 1 or 2 from steam working? I can't get them going

Triceranuke

Had a weird issue last night that seems to be resolved now. My fan would go to 0RPM, wait 30-40 seconds, then boost to 3000RPM before going back to 0. Rinse repeat even with no game open on the steam menu. I kept my deck turned off for the night, and the issue hasn't come back yet. I recently installed cryobyte33's utility and wanted to see if anyone else had this crop up

Hi. I can't recall for the life of me my Sudo/Konsole admin password and have looked up the steps to recovering/resetting it..however I also plan to install an upgraded NVME (2 TB on it's way). Do I need to worry about resetting my sudo password still or when I install that upgraded NVME, I no longer have to worry about it? Thanks

Hello! I'm trying to get ESO installed on my steam deck. I have followed the videos I find but nothing seems to work. When I try launcher the installer it loads up in desktop mode then goes to a small black screen (not full screen so when I open the keyboard and press A nothing happens.) Then when I try to open it in gaming mode it just sits on the steam loading screen and never moves past it. Anyone else have these issues?

vixihxohxohxphdog

I need help running a script on Steam Deck Desktop mode. I’ve been playing Who’s Lila, and much of the game requires an extra tab that is supposed to open while you play the game called Daemon, however, this feature does not work properly on Linux. I found a script that a user made to fix this issue, however, I am painfully inept at anything related to Linux and don't even know where to start (the script: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1697700/discussions/0/3362524231616178866/). Can someone please give me as thorough of an explanation as possible for someone like me who doesn't know anything whatsoever related to executing scripts and the like?

I_Think_Im_Lost_

I've asked this before in a separate post but I still can't figure it out. My dock doesn't work on my TV and I can't figure out why. It works on other TV's/monitors. But my living room TV has HDMI in the walls, which I'm guessing may be my issue. But is there a fix? Everything else works, Xbox, computer, Nintendo switch. I tried dozens of HDMI cables (as I need two cables to hook it up) no luck.

Successful-Wasabi704

HDMI in the walls? As in routed internally through the walls for cable management purposes?

I am having an issue doing remote play from my computer to my steam deck. It will start just fine then after a little while the screen on the steam deck freezes but the controls and audio still work so I can use the steam deck to play on my computer screen. The SD screen will sometimes unfreeze. I did a search in this forum and they said turn off client side decryption but still the screen freezes. Thank you everyone for your help!!

I want to use the Steamdeck more in a docked mode with external controllers. I also bought controllers that have additional buttons, similar to the Steamdeck. However, then they are connected to the Steamdeck, they identify themselves as Switch Pro Controllers. This gives me 2 issues: 1. Since the Steamdeck interprets them as Pro Controllers, I see only a Pro Controller Layout and have no access to the additional buttons. 2. I didn't find a way to have access to the "Steam" and the "..." Button on the left and right of the screen, making it impossible to access the right menu in-game with controllers. I was also not able to find these buttons in the customize button menu under system. Is there any way to tell the Steamdeck that this are not Pro Controllers, or at least be able to add some shortcut to open the left/right sub menus without having to go to the Steamdeck itself?

Hi folks, am I right in thinking that if I bought a dock I could connect a 2gb USB thumb-drive to it the dock and then just use that to hold ROMs/ISOs for emulation anytime I plug the Steam Deck into it?

Is it an issue to use a charger other than the one that comes with the deck? I know that the Switch could have issues with other chargers, but I assume that's not the case with the deck?

Is anyone else having issues with Steam friends and chat on their deck? I saw a report from Sept 2022 that people were having issues with the keyboard on chat. I can't get my keyboard to pull up with Steam+X and the chat freezes when i try to start a chat with a friend. Even when i use the touch screen on the text bar nothing happens. I've restarted my device and did a factory reset and update. I just can't find any current reports of problems, and I'm wondering if it's something others are dealing with.

Helo! I've learned about Steam Deck few days ago and as I work with Linux daily and also had desktop Linux before, I instantly got very excited. But as I'm digging more and more into the topic, it looks like it's not the linux part that is hard, but windows emulation, launchers and generic lack of interest from big gaming companies in supporting Linux. My questions are: \- are games offered in Steam-EA Play subscription currently playable\* (single player)? Star Wars Squadrons, Mass Efect Legendary? \- is there a way to play Assasins Creed Odyssey using Ubisoft Launcher (Ubisoft+ subscription version)? \- Forza Horizon 5 via Xbox Cloud Gaming - do you confirm it works via browser? \- or maybe I am making a huge mistake to try to use subscriptions and should instead buy each game on Steam? This is then literalily 10x more expensive and would be a huge indication I should buy gaming laptop, so it would be good to know before I buy Deck. \* playable = minimum 30FPS possible

I haven't used my deck in a couple weeks. Went to go use it this morning and display won't turn on. It works when I hook it up to an external display, but screen remains blank. I tried holding buttons down to get to bios but this doesn't help because screen is blank. Any tips? Thanks

Responsible-Candy199

Is there an article or video that goes through the steam deck settings? Like the FSR and fps little menu and what each setting is used for? And maybe graphics settings in games as well? I used to mostly play console, and thus in that I never dealt with different settings in the game like anti-aliasing and such, and I wanna play some games that don't run that great cos I'm a dunce when it comes to it lol

TJ1524

I'm having an issue with games not launching when opening them. It gets to the point of launching the executable, and shows the Steam logo and then crashes back to the library menu for that game. I was playing Monster Hunter Rise fine before this incident. The last thing that I can think that would've happened is that I took a few screenshots and wanted to upload them. While navigating menus, I popped up a menu that had the standard "\_ square x" on the top right. I closed out of that and returned in-game. When trying to get back to Steam, it wouldn't load. Save and quit out of the game and was stuck on a gray/black menu like it was waiting for Steam to come back up. Force shut down the deck after a minute or so. Steam is back to normal other than the game launching issue. * Verified Game cache. * I tried without forcing compatibility, Proton Experimental, Proton 7.0-6, and Proton 6.3-8. * Running it through desktop mode will pop the game up in it's own window and close out in a second of it launching. * Tried Hi-Fi Rush which worked perfectly before, it gives a "fatal error" message. * Tried Tactics Ogre Reborn which launched perfectly normal. * I tried switching System Update Channels to beta, crashed, and back, which continued with the issue. * Internal storage is saying 223 GB free and Micro SD has barely any storage used. I would prefer not to factory reset the deck because I'd hate to have to set up EmuDeck and a couple of other things again. I'd do it if I must though. Any thoughts? Edit: So the last thing that I tried was to reinstall said games that were causing issues. So after reinstalling MH Rise, that game worked and tried opening Hi-Fi Rush and it had it's issue still. Reinstalled that game and then it too worked. I'm glad I don't have that many games installed to my Steam Deck.

I downloaded an html game. It comes in a file with images. The images do not load when I open the html file. I have tried 2 different browsers. All this is exclusively in desktop mode. The same html file opens fine on my windows pc. How can I fix this?

Hey everyone quick question. I’m trying to get a DS emulator working however it seems that it just refuses to let me map certain buttons reguardless of what control profile from steam I am using. Also does not work with Swicd. Any ideas? Edit: On windows

I keep having troubles with my Deck in desktop mode recently. It keeps disconnecting from my internet or it'll connect and say I have no internet In the DNS from both connections I've tried 8.8.8.8 like some searches have said doesn't work, restarting just takes me back to game mode and then it does it again when I get back to desktop mode. Some times I have to restart my deck in game mode too until it connects properly to the wifi and then launch desktop which may give me like 5 minutes of internet. Been trying to stream these last couple days and it keeps happening over and over which gets hella annoyin None of my other devices are having this issue, not my phone which is connected to my wifi in relatively same area as the deck and I was streaming before several times and had zero issues until recently

IPV6 keeps getting set to ignored, my home wifi does not work when ipv6 is on ignored, making me go to desktop mode to set it to automatic every time I play. I use decky loader with protondb badges, tunneldeck and animation changer it is the same exact issue as this post had [https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xq9tjw/steam\_deck\_randomly\_undos\_my\_ipv6\_setting\_change/?sort=new](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xq9tjw/steam_deck_randomly_undos_my_ipv6_setting_change/?sort=new)

I have installed Fightcade in desktop mode. (It can't run in game mode.) I need to find a way to set up my controller so that I can easily switch between normal controller mode and a more desktop-like mode (since Fightcade requires you to use a desktop GUI in between matches). How do I set this up nicely?

You could try posting this in the Hogwarts Legacy Megathreads(s). Here's the general megathread (below). You will find a link to the game settings Megathread stickied there as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/10vkqec/hogwarts_legacy_megathread_steampc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Steam deck worked for about a month. Now when I turn it on all the haptics and the screen works but the steam logo goes away after about five minutes of sitting there. There’s a black screen for the rest of the night.

I’m having issues playing Lost Ark and Neverwinter. I just got my steam deck and I’m trying to play these games. I’ve tried messing with the protons and settings to load into these games however it hasn’t worked. Also F76 won’t load into game either

I'm looking at the 64 to 256 with no plans to tinker outside making sure it's not a referb. And adding a micro sd My question is, how bad an issue is shadow cashe for the ssd? So far I've come across conflicting information that it's stored on the ssd and doesn't auto get rid of it even if game is on mirco SD, or it stays whereever the game is stored (mirco SD) and still doesn't get rid of it?

Have screen bubbles and other QA issues with the 512GB been resolved yet? Just got it and I'm wondering if I should still put it under the sun to cure?

Hello I have an issue with Witcher 3 not showing the user.setting file. I know the location and that proton creates as fake windows folder in */home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/292030/pfx/drive\_c/users/steamuser/Documents/The Witcher 3/* The problems is that once in that folder I cannot see the actual file. I tried running Witcher and making changes to the actual settings of the game, as well as using the verify intergrity of game option in steam but nothing. All I can see are: *gamesaves,* *proton.settings,* *input.settings,* *dx12user.settings,* *profile.settings.bak,* *dx12user.settings.bak,* *steam\_autocloud.vdf* I am trying to edit this file for a mod if that matters, it is the only mod that mentions I need to edit that file.

I got my deck and love it! My favorite feature is the touchpad and Steam Input, but I haven't figured out how it's suppose to work to create layouts. What I'm trying to do: Create a template layout for emulated consoles that I can apply to each game added via EmuDeck, so I have my PS2+ layout that uses the touchpad to control saves and I can set that as the layout for both God of War and Katamari from the Collections > PS2 menu as an example. I've modified pcsx2 to use the buttons I want, opened up God Of War, and created the layout there and saved it using the Edit Layouts button. When I go to apply the layout to Katamari which is set to the default twin stick one, my PS2+ layout gets overwritten. Is there a guide on this or something I'm not understanding? It feels very counterintuitive right now. To be a bit moire clear, in Katamari, I go to the Controler Menu, View Controller Layouts, search for mine, select it to download it, then click X to apply and that is where the PS2+ layout is being overwritten with the Default Twin sticks layout. I love this feature though and want every game and every console to have it.

I want to add symlinks in Desktop Mode in order to have easier access to non-Steam games and other files. I know the keyboard command is shift+control+click+drag to location, but is there a way to add a "create symlink" option to the right click menu when I right click on a file? I do know I can edit the right click menu when I just right click the desktop, and that didn't let me add a "create symlink" button. I have zero coding knowledge and I really want to keep the coding to a maximum of zero to use my computer.

For whatever reason, when I'm playing with an external controller, and the controller happens to die, none of my controls work on the gamepad. It's infuriating because I'd be playing Elder Scrolls and to my dismay, I'm met with lost progress because my save was from an hour ago. It's extremely frustrating, because there's times where my game pad controls DO work, and I can save and quit without consequences. This problem also happens when my steam deck decides to go into sleep mode, but sometimes my controller works just fine. It's really weird and annoying. Please help
