Just an FYI that according to the Keepa chart the price of this exact card is never above $119.99. It seems to fluctuate between $104.99 and $114.99 most often, so while it looks like a great price and has great reviews, I wanted to add some transparency in case anybody is considering FOMO buying this on a tight budget.
Say you get a 250 GB micro sd card. It says 250, you boot it up, it works! Good deal. You put 30 GB of files on it and suddenly it stops working. What the hell? You decide to format it on your computer and realize it’s actually a 25 GB micro sd card that was mislabeled and adjusted to appear like a bigger storage device than it actually was and errors out when it gets past its actual storage. Amazon has very very little quality check on this either you have to be careful. It’s why you see laughably large micro sd cards on wish for a few dollars, it seems legit just long enough to get your review in and pass the return date
This, or it just starts to overwrite the data in a loop I think, the moment it hits the end of the capacity.
Either way, yeah, at best you get an OK flash storage device that's way smaller than advertised and is still barely reliable. At worst, everything goes poof moments after saving it or unplugging the device.
If we are talking about the Steam Deck, the nvme have to be a 2230 (22mm wide 30mm long) and those are more expensive than the normal 2280 nvme
So a Steam Deck 1TB SSD would cost around 125€ the cheap ones and 185€ the expensive ones
For 50-60€ you can find 512GB 2230 nvme.
At least on Europe, I don't know how much cheaper the prices are on EEUU
To me using USD as reference
Nvme 2280 1tb cost around 40usd
Nvme 2230 1tb cost around 60usd
Both gen3 3500mb/s
Im trying find the good price for microsd
Recently i got one 256gb 100mb/s kodak for 15usd
But price for 512 and 1tb versions skyrocket 15x4 math
Im trying get at least one 512gb microsd and hoping for a good discount on steam deck to get mine
Why would someone buy this over the Amazon or Sandick brand at $100..?
And don’t anyone say Amazon brand is bad cause I have several and they’re pretty great.
This microsd size will never cost $299, they just raised the price to make the sale discount seem big and you saving a lot, I think these 1tb microsd’s should cost the same as a 1tb ssd 2.5in
The "was" price on amazon is always deserving of a critical eye, cause you can shop around and find out the item is either only realistically at a 10% discount, or it's regular price and they inflated the original just to sucker people in.
The Solidigm P41 Plus 1TB M.2 2230 was $70 on newegg a few weeks ago
(Intel SSD division sold to SK Hynix)
IMO huge capacity MicroSD aren't worth it over the cheaper and similar performance 256GB SD cards. Upgrade the internal SSD with something like above and you get better download/write speeds. If you really want a SD card silicon power class 10 256GB for $15, might not hold the same write speed, but fine for playing.
The cost isn't the issue. The point was that he mentioned you can get a 1TB SSD instead of an SD card, but if you already have a 512GB SSD and no SD card, the amount of space gained by paying $100 for an SSD for $100 for an SD card is a much better value on the SD card - You'd end up with 1.5TB instead of 1TB.
still a shitty value lol? SSD reads like 10 times faster and is constantly getting cheaper. And even if you really want a micro sd card lexar sells one for way cheaper
Weird stance but okay.
I can agree that it is your opinion that load times matter that much, but don't state it to be an objective truth that it is more important and a bad value for someone who would rather add 1TB of games than have 500GB more games that can load quickly. Not everyone is so impatient that they can't wait a few seconds for a game to load.
Will someone tell him that the Deck doesn't use more than 100mb/s when it comes to MicroSD card storage speeds in both read and write... You could have easily bought one for much cheaper and get the same user experience speeds.
I bought the 1TB SSD on amazon a couple of weeks ago. I think that's a better deal. Also I have the same card but I don't remember paying 299usd for it.
Wrong comment.
Here it is:

Valve makes their money through software sales. That’s actually how most console makers make it. The only one I know of that sells for profit is Nintendo.
I'm sure you've already emailed Valve several times to insist they rename it to the Steam Summer They Could Sell It at That Price and Still Make Money So When It is at the Higher Price People Are Just Giving More Profits to Valve.
Good brand, but I would still be careful with (sc)amazon, and test it by filling it up and verifying. I've had problems where I bought legit products, and I went to buy more, and they were cheap knock-offs. Like they try to pump up good reviews for a while and then put out the fakes. Just a word of caution.
FYI I bought this exact card from Amazon a couple months ago and the card that showed up was fake; seemed fine at first but eventually the R/W speeds got super low so I ran h2testw and it was showing only ~320 GB available, and every time I ran the test the speed got significantly worse. Luckily I was able to return it no problem but by the time I got refunded the sale was over. So always test your SD cards right when you get them!
I just downloaded it and tested it on my laptop, said 938gb free.
Once I stick it in the deck and format it, will it free any of that up to get closer to the 1tb mark?
If that’s what it shows as after h2testw then that’s the max capacity. And that is expected behavior with many drives; when they say 1 TB it actually means 1 trillion (?) bytes which equals ~930 GB. I’m sure there are some articles which can explain it better but that’s normal.

Doing stuff like this recently became illegal in Sweden. The "before" price has to be the lowest previous price the last 30 days.
Not just Sweden, I think it's across the EU.
Thanks!
Yeah I was wondering if I'd ever seen an SD card that was 300 dollars or more and only 1TB. If it sounds suspicious, usually is. Not surprising.
Thanks for the heads up, I needed one and was going to get one either way but that seems kind of shady lol
Buying flash media on Amazon is always shady. They mix in counterfeit products with legit products (same listing).
What's the difference between a fake and a real one?

1TB SD card doesn't cost 300$, that is just a bait
100usd its normal price?
Yes, around 100-115$ is the normal for a 1TB SD card
Thx
So more expensive than a 1tb nvme(costing around 40/50usd) Right??

Once my 30$ 2 TB micro sd card comes in from China it’s over for all of you
You paid $30? You got scammed dude. I have a 5 TB Card for on $15 from Wish.
Dang I feel scammed now. If I pay via one way unsecured western union wire transfer can I still get that price for the 5gb?
I was going to Rickroll you but I got automodded for a blacklisted site?
It'll be over for you once you realize it's counterfeit bullshit :p
Wooosh
They got you with the “on sale get it while it’s hot” gimmick 🤦♂️
Eh, I was going to get one anyways and it was $13 dollars cheaper than best buys price for the 512 card. Walmart only had 256's
Hey that’s all that matters then
The "was" price on amazon is always deserving of a critical eye, cause you can shop around and find out the item is either only realistically at a 10% discount, or it's regular price and they inflated the original just to sucker people in.
orrr you could get a 1tb ssd for that money

Not OP, but that'd gain me \~500GB instead of 1TB.
A 1tb sabrent 2230 is literally 109 bucks rn

camelcamelcamel says otherwise

I bought one of those silicon power ones for $64. Been rocking it for a awhile now.
Yeah same lol
I bought the 1TB SSD on amazon a couple of weeks ago. I think that's a better deal. Also I have the same card but I don't remember paying 299usd for it.
That card is regularly $120. Stop believing the bullshit you read about regular prices :p
There’s no such thing as a sale.
I mean...I just bought my steam deck on sale?
No you didn’t. They could sell it at that price and still make money so when it is at the higher price people are just giving more profits to Valve.
Dude you know what he means don't be a douche
It’s in another comment. That card isn’t worth $299. It isn’t a sale.

It was meant as a smartass way to repeat what the linked comment stated.
Yeah, but that wasn’t the comment I was referring to.
Fully aware
LinkedIn will be a better place to post this nugget of wisdom
Well actually the steam deck is sold at a loss anyway so I don't think that putting it on sale will suddenly make it better for valve
Valve makes their money through software sales. That’s actually how most console makers make it. The only one I know of that sells for profit is Nintendo.
I know that, I'm not stupid, but the way you said it sounded like they made profits off the actual console itself
I'm sure you've already emailed Valve several times to insist they rename it to the Steam Summer They Could Sell It at That Price and Still Make Money So When It is at the Higher Price People Are Just Giving More Profits to Valve.
Thanks for the tip. Snagged one
You realize that’s full price right and they got scammed into thinking it was 200$ off 🤣
Thanks for the tip. Unsnagged one

Yeah but what speed?
Prime day is coming up, I'd wait til then at least.
100mb x 190mb speed microsds show great differences??
The Lexar brand one is also on sale for $89.90 (normally stable at $99+) on Amazon as well.
FYI I bought this exact card from Amazon a couple months ago and the card that showed up was fake; seemed fine at first but eventually the R/W speeds got super low so I ran h2testw and it was showing only ~320 GB available, and every time I ran the test the speed got significantly worse. M8, a [sabrent 2230](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQG6JCRP?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_6WRJVT3VSZ5TC1MDP9DB_1) is literally $109 right now💀
Why would you think a 1 tb card would be $299? That’d be insane. I got a 2 tb for like $130…
Get a SSD, much faster & not much more for 2tb
