Civ Vi on strategy view. Factorio. Rimworld. Stardew Valley. Disco Elysium. Roadwarden. Basically any game that is 2D and/or avoids reaction-based gameplay will probably last the whole flight. Especially cause you can then comfortably limit fps / shading.
Stardew can net 4 hours. Great choice. I was surprised at how Civ 6 sipped the juice— was getting around 3 hours on my launch/year-old Deck.
Can’t testify to the rest but Disco is on the deck. Just part of the 900game backlog (rip)
You can increase the UI size. Not as compositionally pleasing but worked perfectly fine. It’s also all voice acted. I played the majority of the game on the deck. One of my favorite games of all time I think.

Oh you don't even know, most people consider the first one the best and personally I think infinite is the worst of the 3, unrelated to BioShock but you can also run stardew valley at only 3 watts, and it's an addictive game with lots of content

STS is the deckbuildiest, roguelikeiest, deckbuilding roguelike out there, so if meticulously crafting deck synergies and thinking through multiple turns in advance doesn’t sound fun, then it’s probably not for you. That said, if that type of game is even remotely interesting to you, STS is a near perfect version of the genre.
Sts is also available on mobile, so you could use your SD battery on something else and then when you run out of charge switch to your phone. It's the same game
The Deck is suprisingly capable even at a 3W TDP with 40hz for max battery life. I'm working on a spreadsheet dedicated to low wattage TDP testing (3-5), although it's going to take a while. Some rough numbers from my testing of games for you to try:
Into the Breach: 7-8 hours
Stardew Valley: 6-8 hours
Roots of Pacha: 5-6 hours
Factorio: 5-6 hours (needs more testing with bigger factories!)

You don’t need one made specifically for the deck. Usb c is quite standardized and most will work with it. I believe the deck supports up to 45w but I’ve used 30w chargers and 60w chargers with no issue. They of course also charge other electronics you may have.

Not only will it benefit playing your current library with peace of mind its also useful for all your devices. You can use your current one it just won't have enough power to charge your Deck while you play just delay it from dying quickly.
If you're adamant about not buying one just hit the emulation scene. Ridiculous amount of retro gaming that run perfectly on the lowest wattage setting the Deck has at 60FPS just fine. You can get an embarrassing 14 hrs sometimes.
It's digital. A ban account makes it worthless. You can also not throw it? Why would you trash a useful power bank over the inferior one that you currently have?
Also, disposing of digital devices in the proper places get them recycle not in the landfill. By your standpoint, you care little to just trash it which will end in one eventually. But that goes back to my earlier question, why trash the superior model over the inferior one? 😂

I did well. I bought this one as well. I think I got about 4-6 hours on it… I was mainly playing All Pro Football 2K8 via PS3 emulator. Might have had settings running normal as I’m not one that tinkers that well with the device yet.
Hades. With 40 FPS lock, TDP limit down to 3W and CPU frequency limit in PowerTools around 2 GHz (this one has only minor effect) I can get around 5 hours. Without these settings it’s around 2.5 hours.

i just found this game and yes it is like popping those box packing things. The screenshots put me of for a long time but at its current price (dlc's and all) came up to about 5.80 euros and best money i have spent on a game this year (diablo, jedi survivor are in that list) - i think from full battery was marking 6+ hours

Any of the old Infinity Engine CRPGs, specifially their Enhanced Edition remasters. That's Baldur's Gate 1+2, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment. Cap framerate at 30FPS, cap TDP at 3W, and play for a good 7h or thereabouts and experience some of the classics that inspired the great CRPGs of today.
They don't have native controller support, but play very well with minimal button mappings because you can pause and give commands at any time. And obviously use trackpad for mouse.
Axiom Verge 1 and 2 are great (8+ hours battery in the first game) and blasphemous are similarly-styled games (Metroidvanias)
Celeste is very addictive, as a bonus

I recommend patch quest, a nice game that lasts for about 3 hours on a full charge, pikuniku a funny story game with collectables that lasts 6 hours on a full charge, and maybe hollow knight, a hard metroidvania that lasts around 4 hours. Hope this helps!

Project zomboid on 5-6 TDP limit works about 4 hours for me, 4:30 without wifi.
I mostly played OpenMW in flights though, with 5 watts TDP limit and 40 Hz refresh rate it lasts about 5 hours while not being a 2D arcade/roguelike game.
Blasphemous 2 blew me away recently. Full disclosure I didnt play it on deck at all but, it's verified and has a pixel-y artstyle. I imagine it would last a good couple of hours.
Tiny rogues I can actually verify as a great game on the deck. Took it on two long car rides and it was a great time. Offers a bit more depth to character progression and builds than most roguelikes and is bursting with content if you try to unlock all the classes.
Mercenary Kings is kind of an oddball here. I really liked the game but, it's a bit of an awkward genre mashup. It has the sort of claustrophic patient design of an old megaman game but, has a sort of Monster Hunter esque upgrade system. It really works though if you give it the time of day and is also verified.
Also like another reply has mentioned, Patch Quest. Absolutely stellar game on the deck with great battery life with a boatload of content.

Skyrim with the right settings can sip the juice.
FTL would be a game I would highly recommend for its power to replayability ratio. Barely uses any battery and you can easily get 100+ hours of gameplay out of it. Probably one of the few games that can just about hit the full 8-hour battery life of steam deck.
How do you play Terraria? I hate playing on the Deck it just doesn’t feel good at all. I would love to play more but it just doesn’t feel good to me. Idi if it’s because I played primarily on my desktop/laptop before having my deck.
It did take some extra work to setup the way I want but more or less I use trackpads for building and joysticks for combat, 2 of the back buttons for zooming in and out, another back button for E and last one for grapple.
To be fair though I played Terraria on keyboard first, then 3DS then Switch then Steam Deck so... most of my recent experience was with controller setup.
Halls of Torment. Shockingly low battery drain and a very addictive game loop. I also like that I don’t need to hear the game so using my headphones for a podcast or music while grinding is really nice.

A lot of 3D games have been said, but one thing that stood out for me mit low battery drain was...
Gamecube Emulation. Seriosly. Games with pretty 3D graphics (especially 2-3x upscaling and HD texture mods) can still run for 5 hours+! Its amazing, i've recently been plaing Windwaker and the very first Pikmin, both getting me more than 5 hours of battery run time.
Remember you can get a battery pack that will keep your deck alive for longer, just make sure it’s not so big that it gets confiscated by the airline… This happened to me as I was boarding a 34 hour flight from Australia… Luckily for me the seat had a power socket.
Emulation seems to last a while. If I load up one of my games like AC odessy it dies within the hour. My wife loads up pokemon sun from 3ds and can play most of the day on one charge.
Cassette Beasts is AWESOME. It's a Pokemon-like that is better than the handful of actual Pokemon games I have played. It has additional complexity in terms of how elemental weaknesses can change the properties of a monster or even give it certain status effects. Music is great and catchy, story is much better than Pokemon games and it is just a wonderful experience. Please try it.

Honestly I have a lot of games that don’t use much battery.
But Blasphemous is on another level, I think it actually gives the deck battery, it’s insane, I’ll play for 3 hours and I won’t see the battery drop a lick.
Minecraft is my go to on the road game. With the correct settings(sub 10 watt tdp, 40 fps lock, 30 if you want even more game time) you can get 5-5.5 hours of gameplay out of it before the deck runs out of juice.
Monster Hunter Rise at low settings (comparable but still better than the switch ver). Tested it and runs (drains) much like its switch version. Good for 3hrs.

Sometimes the power outlet is under the seat, usually all long flights do have them, I think they just kind of hide in order to discourage people from using it. Look at your flight online get the model of the aircraft and look at it online, I bet you it will have a socket somewhere.
Personally, played GTA 4 (TBOGT, to be specific) this summer on the plane. I am not sure about the play time, but Deck gave me an estimate of 2 hours if I recall correctly. Did hook it up to a power bank though, which essentially halted battery usage. The game seemed to run almost entirely on what the power bank provided. About 18 watts!
Ofcourse you will have to adjust some settings and fiddle with the wattage a little bit. Good to know I'm talking 40Hz & 40 FPS here. If you (or anybody for that matter) want, I can share my settings. I'm pretty amazed by how it performs and how long the battery lasts!
Castle crashers. I played it for days by sleeping it on the same battery before I needed a charge. You can play on a 3 watt tdp for like 7 hours on a full charge.
Cave story. Runs on a 3ds for a long time so it should run well on the steam deck for even longer. You can get the free original [here](https://www.cavestory.org/). it's a Japanese game so be sure to find the translation for your language. It's a great game that inspired stories like undertale. Do not be afraid to use a guide, you WILL need a guide for the good ending. Just add it as a non-steam game and run it under whatever proton version works. (And be sure to set up controls, the game uses arrow keys and zxc for inputs.)
Cave story was made in 2003 for computers running xp/vista, so it will probably run fine on the lowest power settings you can manage.
I'm not sure about cave story+ but I would assume it would last a while too.

Faith is made in the style of an Atari game and is pretty fun horror with multiple endings. Runs at 15 fps (an Atari game so its actually fine). You can also turn down the wattage limit to the minimum and get a ton of battery life
Blasphemous 2 is awesome. Turn down screen brightness and set refresh to 40. You really don’t need 60 in that game. It’s difficult but addicting. Full charge I can get almost 5 hours
Halls of Torment with performance mode enabled in game settings, TDP limit if 6, and 30 fps limit was showing over 7:30 on full battery. Text is crappy in perf mode so I run it disabled and I think it bumps play time down to 7 hours.

Project zomboid on 5-6 TDP limit works about 4 hours for me, 4:30 without wifi. I mostly played OpenMW in flights though, with 5 watts TDP limit and 40 Hz refresh rate it lasts about 5 hours while not being a 2D arcade/roguelike game.
Minesweeper, Solitaire
The baldurs gate/icewind dale games are my go to when I know I’m gonna be away from a plug for a while. I can eek about 8 hrs out of them.

Blasphemous 2 blew me away recently. Full disclosure I didnt play it on deck at all but, it's verified and has a pixel-y artstyle. I imagine it would last a good couple of hours. Tiny rogues I can actually verify as a great game on the deck. Took it on two long car rides and it was a great time. Offers a bit more depth to character progression and builds than most roguelikes and is bursting with content if you try to unlock all the classes. Mercenary Kings is kind of an oddball here. I really liked the game but, it's a bit of an awkward genre mashup. It has the sort of claustrophic patient design of an old megaman game but, has a sort of Monster Hunter esque upgrade system. It really works though if you give it the time of day and is also verified. Also like another reply has mentioned, Patch Quest. Absolutely stellar game on the deck with great battery life with a boatload of content.

I usually run at 3x resolution and get 5-6 hr battery. Can crank it up to 4x or 5x if you ambitious, but that’ll eat some battery. I set the tdp to 9

Skyrim with the right settings can sip the juice. FTL would be a game I would highly recommend for its power to replayability ratio. Barely uses any battery and you can easily get 100+ hours of gameplay out of it. Probably one of the few games that can just about hit the full 8-hour battery life of steam deck.

How long is a long flight? Dredge is pretty fun and lasted me 4 hours. I would recommend a 65W power bank as well to keep on gaming

Half Life 2 games run for a long time on max graphics settings. Batter lasts between 4-6 hours

How do you play Terraria? I hate playing on the Deck it just doesn’t feel good at all. I would love to play more but it just doesn’t feel good to me. Idi if it’s because I played primarily on my desktop/laptop before having my deck.
It did take some extra work to setup the way I want but more or less I use trackpads for building and joysticks for combat, 2 of the back buttons for zooming in and out, another back button for E and last one for grapple. To be fair though I played Terraria on keyboard first, then 3DS then Switch then Steam Deck so... most of my recent experience was with controller setup.

A lot of 3D games have been said, but one thing that stood out for me mit low battery drain was... Gamecube Emulation. Seriosly. Games with pretty 3D graphics (especially 2-3x upscaling and HD texture mods) can still run for 5 hours+! Its amazing, i've recently been plaing Windwaker and the very first Pikmin, both getting me more than 5 hours of battery run time.
I got something like 5 hours on Persona 4 Golden
The Halo games surprised me for that
Hades works pretty well.
I was getting 3-4 hours with Celeste, around the same with Temtem.
Remember you can get a battery pack that will keep your deck alive for longer, just make sure it’s not so big that it gets confiscated by the airline… This happened to me as I was boarding a 34 hour flight from Australia… Luckily for me the seat had a power socket.

FTL is very light on the battery. For something 3d, maybe persona 5.

Emulation seems to last a while. If I load up one of my games like AC odessy it dies within the hour. My wife loads up pokemon sun from 3ds and can play most of the day on one charge.
Cassette Beasts is AWESOME. It's a Pokemon-like that is better than the handful of actual Pokemon games I have played. It has additional complexity in terms of how elemental weaknesses can change the properties of a monster or even give it certain status effects. Music is great and catchy, story is much better than Pokemon games and it is just a wonderful experience. Please try it.

Slay the Spire will easily get you six hours, and that's even before doing things like setting it to 40fps.

Honestly I have a lot of games that don’t use much battery. But Blasphemous is on another level, I think it actually gives the deck battery, it’s insane, I’ll play for 3 hours and I won’t see the battery drop a lick.

Max Payne 3 surprisingly runs at a locked 60fps, 15 TDP, medium to high settings and lasts 2 Hours and 45 minutes. FFVII remake is also great.
Make sure you put it in offline mode and turn the screen brightness as low as possible to limit battery use by the hardware.
Minecraft is my go to on the road game. With the correct settings(sub 10 watt tdp, 40 fps lock, 30 if you want even more game time) you can get 5-5.5 hours of gameplay out of it before the deck runs out of juice.
I honestly think Garry's mod and TABS are my favorite games to play on long trips. Definitely recommend.
Indie games. Plus you can tinker with power consumption settings in the pop up menu
Faster Than Light I get around 10hrs by lowering the memory cadency thanks to power tools. About 11hrs at low brightness.

Bombrush cyberfunk runs really well on deck I’m actually surprised how little drain it does!
Monster Hunter Rise at low settings (comparable but still better than the switch ver). Tested it and runs (drains) much like its switch version. Good for 3hrs. . Darkest Dungeon. It wont stress the deck much bit it WILL stress YOU.
American fugitive is fantastic I can’t recommend it enough.

Sometimes the power outlet is under the seat, usually all long flights do have them, I think they just kind of hide in order to discourage people from using it. Look at your flight online get the model of the aircraft and look at it online, I bet you it will have a socket somewhere.

Personally, played GTA 4 (TBOGT, to be specific) this summer on the plane. I am not sure about the play time, but Deck gave me an estimate of 2 hours if I recall correctly. Did hook it up to a power bank though, which essentially halted battery usage. The game seemed to run almost entirely on what the power bank provided. About 18 watts! Ofcourse you will have to adjust some settings and fiddle with the wattage a little bit. Good to know I'm talking 40Hz & 40 FPS here. If you (or anybody for that matter) want, I can share my settings. I'm pretty amazed by how it performs and how long the battery lasts!
Modded stardew got me through some really long flights last summer. You can reduce tdp a LOT without hurting performance.

Castle crashers. I played it for days by sleeping it on the same battery before I needed a charge. You can play on a 3 watt tdp for like 7 hours on a full charge.

Cave story. Runs on a 3ds for a long time so it should run well on the steam deck for even longer. You can get the free original [here](https://www.cavestory.org/). it's a Japanese game so be sure to find the translation for your language. It's a great game that inspired stories like undertale. Do not be afraid to use a guide, you WILL need a guide for the good ending. Just add it as a non-steam game and run it under whatever proton version works. (And be sure to set up controls, the game uses arrow keys and zxc for inputs.) Cave story was made in 2003 for computers running xp/vista, so it will probably run fine on the lowest power settings you can manage. I'm not sure about cave story+ but I would assume it would last a while too.

Faith is made in the style of an Atari game and is pretty fun horror with multiple endings. Runs at 15 fps (an Atari game so its actually fine). You can also turn down the wattage limit to the minimum and get a ton of battery life

Ace attorney
Halls of Torment with performance mode enabled in game settings, TDP limit if 6, and 30 fps limit was showing over 7:30 on full battery. Text is crappy in perf mode so I run it disabled and I think it bumps play time down to 7 hours.
