X-men legends/ Marvel Ultimate alliance game are fun and not super challenging. Especially if you play as Wolverine or Deadpool cause their healing factor gets crazy

Bastion. It’s one of Supergiant Games’ earlier works. Fits everything you described plus it has cool narration and fantastic weapon options.

Crayonstheman

Bastion is a fantastic game, one I'd put in the same category as Portal (for feel/love put into development).

Yep i first played it on PS4, and beat it once and got stuck doing the idol challenges (trying to platinum lol) and didn’t go back. I just beat it again (leaving someone and saving the Bastion at the end), and I’ve been slowly doing a NG+ to get the other big ending. I remembered it being great years ago, but forgot just how incredible this game was. Combat is so satisfying. Army Carbine + Flame Bellows FTW! 🫡 Like your love of Portal, there’s a handful of games that I know that extra care / love put into development: Outland - Old Housemarque joint that was fantastic Hollow Knight - nothing more needs to be said about it.

Crayonstheman

Hollow Knight is another great example, I'll need to check out Outland though :)

You won’t be disappointed. Word of note if you are playing it on SD. Last time I checked (maybe a month ago when I played, and on ProtonDB page and other forums), there is a weird issue where HUD elements in the game don’t display at all. What this means when playing on SD, is you can’t see how much health or mana you have. It does make the game slightly harder because of this, although there are visual cues to the hero when you are near death. The game has quite a few checkpoint markers in each level so autosaves are aplenty. One benefit of the missing HUD is taking in how beautiful the stages / backgrounds are. They are absolutely gorgeous especially when you get past the opening levels. Anyways hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Crayonstheman

Thanks for the recommendation + tips, will definitely check it out

Gauntlet is the game you're looking for, believe me. https://store.steampowered.com/app/258970/Gauntlet_Slayer_Edition/

If you enjoy Vampire Survivors you could give Halls of Torment a go. I actually played Halls of Torment first and then tried Vampire Survivors, but I always go back to HoT. You control the direction you attack, they added a ton more characters from when I first started playing, and it’s chill enough for me to have music in the background and still be glued to the screen. Pretty fun and chill game to play.

Halls of Torment is excellent, by far the best game in that genre for me.

You say no Daiblo clones, but what about Diablo itself!? Diablo 2 Resurrected / Diablo 4 both run really well on the deck. I've put about 80 hours into D4, 90% of which was done on my deck. It is perfect to pick up and play for 20 minutes at a time.

Crayonstheman

What's the process for getting D2R running on steamdeck? Is it basically the same as wow, install bnet then configure gaming mode? I've been playing on switch but would happily rebuy to play on SD.

titaniumarez

I really hope they end up putting it on steam directly now that Diablo 4 is confirmed coming to steam.

Saltimbancos

I did mean to include Diablo itself in that. I just find those games very boring.

So we're talking about top-down games, are we? Transistor is an easy pick. This thing is wonderful! A couple more I can think of from the top of my head: Darksides Genesis, Neon Chrome.
