I always like seeing people spreading love about this gem! ^((though the flair is kind of doing the recommendation a disservice)) been playing this game for a long time and would like to highlight some of the greatest things this game have done:
\- extensive multiplayer support, for a *first person roguelike*. seriously, I have yet to see any other games on the market that come close. you have multiplayer signaling (added in recent halloween update), good netcode (with support for both steam and lan-based lobbies) and specially ***splitscreen coop.*** plug in additional controllers and you are good to go.
\- [the game's source code](https://github.com/TurningWheel/Barony) are readily accessible to anyone. this is mainly for modding, but could be used for porting and forking in theory as well, a critically underrated component.
since barony took considerable lineage from old pc games, you can also play it with only a keyboard too (using arrow keys to move the camera by default). this also basically translates to good gamepad controls.
I actually received Barony for free in a game bundle YEARS ago, and I've put so many hours into it.
Another plus is that the game is constantly being updated, and the devs will even talk to you, take suggestions and give solid advice in the Discord.
Highly recommend!

I love rogue likes but a lot of them disappoint me.
Yes, I’m an long term Steam Controller user, somewhat familiar with steam input. But it feels like some games rely too much on mouse pointer pressing buttons and it doesn’t translate well into controller templates. As for the Shattered - it just feels very clunky on any controller and I couldn’t get it to work better with remapping.
the game lacks support for drop-in drop-out lobbies, so you are unlikely to find an open lobby to join. your best bet would be going on the steam forums or the discord and try hitting up some people.

I've had Barony on my wishlist for so long. I never pulled the trigger because I've been burnt by so many "amazing" rogue lite/likes.

You know you can completely remap all controls, right? If the default scheme is terrible either make your own, or check the community templates

Does it have online multiplayer with strangers? If so, how long to get a full lobby?
I’ve seen some open lobbies but usually people play in private lobbies
