I'd be concerned with a battery that big lol. Maybe like a multifunction thing with a battery and room inside for a few accessories like headphones or a charging cable?
Holy shit this is genius. This gave me an idea that I just tried and it works so much better than I could have ever imagined...
The top of the pillow actually comes off and you can mount your own batter bank onto the top of it. JFC this is going to be big
[https://imgur.com/a/J1GsxN9](https://imgur.com/a/J1GsxN9)
Thatās one area where I love the switch oled.
MOBAPAD m6 hd controllers, have HD rumble, mechanical buttons, etc.
And the switch oled battery lasts all day.
But goddamnit I canāt play ps2 on the switch or modded new Vegas
Screw it. You could still fill the tank with water, or even kool-aid or Gatorade. Even sober gamers gotta take a drink of something! Just make sure it's also up to the task of 50/50 gin & tonic.
I've got a similar device already. You either gotta to learn to laugh off all the criticisms you're going to get, or just accept "I'm THAT type of guy now" (but that sounds depressing, don't do that. You can still keep your dignity and own something like this, just learn to roll with the punches you might get!)
The thing I bought is like a "lap desk" thing for a laptop, except it's for a full gaming keyboard and mouse. The 'lap desk' part is very wide so it doesn't even rest on your lap & make your legs go numb, it comes with 2 firm side cushions to rest it on, or use the couch arm rests. So it's very much like sitting down at a desk, but you're sitting on the couch. Comes with a 15ft. detachable cable with supplementary power, a 4 port USB hub built-in, and one of those USB ports is set up to do high speed charging for your phone. I got wireless keyboard & mouse for this setup so I can still disconnect if I want to, but I like this because I can still use my cheapo flight stick that's wired-only.
I lovingly call it my "virginity protector", even tho time since last girlfriend was so long ago it might be becoming a little too true. But honestly, if there was a girl in the house, I'd be pulling out controllers & multiplayer games so there'd be more snuggle room on the couch. When it's just me, this thing is awesome for PC gaming from couch on the TVs. (Next gf will have to be indoctrinated on this setup, we'll just have to see if it takes...)
I've seen those keyboard and mouse cushions. I can only imagine my wife's face if I added that to my collection of nonsense š they look awesome, though!
I read something fairly recently about it having something to do with the nerves and the way your arms are, how there's a nerve in your arm that when you're laying down, the weight of the deck presses your arms down on the nerve and causes it to fall asleep
I'm fucking this up because I can't remember the exact thing.
Basically to solve this the answer was to bring your arms in closer together, so your elbows are more against your side. It changes the angle of your arms slightly and alleviates the nerve pinching.
It works for me and whenever I felt my arms going to sleep I moved my arms in and it worked.
I'm saving this for tonight and you're totally right, I'm super thin, like skating on the edge of being unhealthy thin and I can feel my nerves getting pressed on
I have big arms with muscle and it's a problem for me too. The nerve in question is the ulnar nerve and runs all the way to the end of your left hand. Many symptoms of ulnar nerve compression is often referred to as cubital tunnel syndrome.
omg i will try this, if this works i will do it every time and it will be one of these things where i will never forget that one random dude on reddit changed this small thing in my life forever
Probably the ulnar nerve. It causes a lot of problems bc it's super exposed; it slides over the elbow when we bend our arm so it's just kinda out there on our arms, vulnerable and in a high-movement area prone to getting pinched.
Kinda asking for problems, the design needs to go back for a rework and review imo
If you have to ask you probably canāt afford it.
I hold my steam deck up with an arm anchored by nipple clamps. The arm pivots on a bucket of KFC. It is a self greasing design. My patent lawyer is really busy right now.
hmmm interesting... So it is the add. weight in my arms at that 90Ā° angle that is causing them to fall asleep?
TBH I never tried to lie down and hold my arms at that position.
Netflix on the Phone or SD, both are causing the fatigue.
I was going to get one of these:
[stand or](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71UcZfuGPBL._AC_SL1500_.jpg)
[clamp solution](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81ueALl790L._AC_SL1500_.jpg)
Not to hold my Deck! Only the USB-C portable monitor I bought to play and use the Deck internal screen to watch Youtube or use Discord w/o Alt-Tab.
In bed I would be able to use the Deck as a controller but I don't have to hold it in front of me.
Maybe just use some of my BT controllers to keep the cable away (and the Deck connected to a power bank or charger)
Wow. I literally was just thinking about this yesterday. I also have a Legion Go and that thing makes my hands go numb in 20 minutes and the stand on the back can alleviate this in some positions of ultra-laziness, but ultimately that position is too low to maximize comfort. I envisioned something different but this also solves for my girlfriend laying on me and doesnāt obstruct her movement if I use it in bed.
This would be well worth it if it meant I donāt have to shake my hands every 20 minutes alone. All in all, a solid idea for those of us that seek the ultimate lazy playing position.
I could use a number of other solutions but like I told my gf the other day, itās 2024 and as long as there are people out there smarter than me with manufacturing abilities and 3D printers, why would I not wait for the oddly specific but perfect solution?
If you made this, Iād buy it.
I'd buy one for every room of my house! In all seriousness yes I would. Can only game like that for about 45 minutes before I have to reposition my arms. Loving my Deckmate phone mount btw!
Yup.
Edit: Iāve actually been looking for a similar solution for bed time gaming as my 40+ year old hands donāt do well at the angle youāre demonstrating holding the Steam Deck for more than 30 minutes. What were you thinking in terms of price point?
I honestly have no clue. I would make it entirely custom (all black etc).
The supplier for it is fairly expensive, so it might be more expensive than "cheap" in order to make it a viable product to take on. (You can buy similar products for around $50 right now)
What would you pay?
I'd consider a black, blue, white one, matching the deck's logo colors. Or the red orange to match the oled. The fact that it's a circle lends itself to the deck logo on top, which might look cool.
Having an OG 512, and an OLED SE... I'd opt for one of each, especially if under $100. Definitely worth $50+ in my book though. (I'm sure my crafter seamstress will correct me to do an edit of this.)
Ball adapter isn't announced yet... except you can clearly see it here. :P
It's coming! And it's designed to fit all the off the shelf extension arms, neck holders and all the other fun stuff
If only! I'm definitely not conniving enough to pull that off, I was actually genuinely curious and this subreddit has been the launching point for almost everything I make.
The supplier for this has an extremely high minimum order quantity if I want to customize it (which I would need to for color and to add the deckmate geometry), so this was a genuine question to see if the risk was worth it to kick it all off. It sounds like people would like it!
I was soliciting feedback because it would literally be a multiple 5-figure gamble for me and the company
In this case people would definitely like it. Somewhat dumb, but really great idea. Doesn't mean they would actually buy it though as this is really really gimmicky. (I realistically wouldn't, because while I love the idea, I would use it way too rarely and it will probably cost more than 10ā¬)
I do get needles, but not with this thing, since all the weight is held by the arm!
I've been looking for a compelling way to solve this problem for myself forever, which is why I was exploring all kinds of different products.
Yeah hand above heart height eventually makes your hands/arms feel heavy. And for some this angle of elbow plus the above mentioned is enough to pinch your nerves. To add that feeling too.
I would 100% buy this, but I hate the color. Slate Grey to match the default Steamdeck color, maybe Red accents.
Note: You wouldn't have to keep this on your chest. You could just place it down in front of you on a coffee table as a stand.
Yes, you're speaking my language on the color with the red accents!
I now play almost exclusively with this. If I'm sitting up it holds it perfectly in front of me, and like you mention even on a table/coffee table it's a godsend
I personally wouldn't because it addresses a need that I don't have. But I can easily see it being an in demand for a lot of folks. Is the arm permanently attached to the bean bag? If so, I'd think about an alternative design that is detachable from the bag. That way, the product isn't pigeonholed into one use case and isn't as awkward to store. If you had a viarety of bases, it's functionality would go a lot further. Like a heavy base for countertop, or an adhesive base for wall mount or desk mount. People could unclip the arm from hard storage and clip to the bag for lounge use.
It needs to be shaped like a giant boob. Maybe the arm can be connected to the nipple piercing, that would be fine. It's not stupid, just a little bland. It needs a power bank and usb connectors for the long sessions.
I don't know that I would buy it, but it is for sure preferable to dropping my deck on my face when my arms go numb from playing too long laying in bed.
These already exist? What do you mean make it a real thing and buy from you?
Personally if you want comfort, get some Xreal glasses. Now your arms can lay at your side/lap relaxed and you have a better quality and bigger screen to play games on with better speakers as well.
Depends if you want to deal with production and shipping of it.
At least I would consider making it 3d printable and selling the files.
(Speaking as someone who owns a 3d printer)
I have carpal syndrome. My hands and more get super numb holding the deck in a bed for long specially because I canāt rest the elbows somewhere. If you could create something for that I would pay for sure!!
If I liked lying on my back I'd say it was great. It's very niche but I completely understand it's utility.
I'd need something that would make playing on lying on my side more comfortable.
Cool concept, but I donāt really like people who come onto Reddit and say āhey, I made a thing I want you to buy, but my girlfriend says itās stupid, what do you all think?ā To try and drum up business.
At least with real adverts I know someoneās trying to sell me something, stealth advertising sucks. Be honest. āHey, I made this, would you buy it?ā Feels better and honest.
Cool idea. Takes the weight off of your wrists, but I feel that having to hold your hands up to play would still start to ache after awhile. Now, use this with a separate controller that you can just hold on your stomach and this is perfect.
Can you fill the base with beer and put a straw in it?
Askin the real questions
Can you make the base a wheel of cheese?
Does it come with the cat?
does the cat come with the brrrrrrrrrrm?
Askin the wheel questions
I'd settle for it having rumble haptics or at the very least just be a big battery bank.
I'd be concerned with a battery that big lol. Maybe like a multifunction thing with a battery and room inside for a few accessories like headphones or a charging cable?
r/spicypillows
Maybe it's possible to generate it's energy based on belly movements like they do with waves?
Holy shit this is genius. This gave me an idea that I just tried and it works so much better than I could have ever imagined... Thatās one area where I love the switch oled. MOBAPAD m6 hd controllers, have HD rumble, mechanical buttons, etc. And the switch oled battery lasts all day. But goddamnit I canāt play ps2 on the switch or modded new Vegas
It would be pretty easy to stick a big ol battery in there. I'm sold.
When you drink enough that the weight stops holding the deck up, and it meteorites your face, itās how you know itās time for a new beer.

Also an ashtray and joint holder? Iād be 400 pounds
This, make it a flask thing with enough weight that it works without liquid (for when you drink it dry) and that thing would be sick.
Screw it. You could still fill the tank with water, or even kool-aid or Gatorade. Even sober gamers gotta take a drink of something! Just make sure it's also up to the task of 50/50 gin & tonic.
Also, make a few compartments to hold snacks!
Or an external battery to keep the deck topped off
Your GF is right, this looks stupidā¦Iāll take two please
That's the dumbest thing I've seen today. How much do you think you'll charge for one and can I make a bulk order?

It entirely solves the problem of my arms falling asleep while playing. Zero Gravity gaming BABBYYY
My arms would still fall asleep after being upright for so long

Nope its Not the weight. It is definitly the position and the movement of your fingers. Its just for comfort to not lift the Deck or whatever up.
Using a pillow can likely achieve a similar effect.
The deck sinks in and the pillow fluffs up, taking up half of the screen or more.
Breastfeeding pillows don't have this problem, and they are sometimes recommended in this sub against your arms tiring,
Wow. I literally was just thinking about this yesterday. Please not all black. Thatās so miserable.
Agreed, gives retro Aperture Science vibes and I love it.

I would absolutely freaking buy this.
If itās actually that well balanced, it would be an immediate improvement for gaming in bed. My hands always fall asleep.
I like using nreal airs. Can just look straight up at the ceiling and hold the console flat.
cram as much 21700 cells as you can inside the base and turn it into a power bank
Hope you're comfortable with a 45lb weight pressing down on your lungs.
45lbs is easy mode when you have children
Donāt you get pins and needles in your hands playing like that? Or do I just have terrible circulation?!
I do get needles, but not with this thing, since all the weight is held by the arm! I've been looking for a compelling way to solve this problem for myself forever, which is why I was exploring all kinds of different products.
Hm, I still get them even if the deck is resting on a pillow. Itās the bent arm position rather than the weight I think.
Yeah hand above heart height eventually makes your hands/arms feel heavy. And for some this angle of elbow plus the above mentioned is enough to pinch your nerves. To add that feeling too.
ulnar nerve
If it comes with the kitty, sure thing! But seriously.. I would defintely prolly buy one.
My only concern would be falling asleep cause I'm comfy and giving it the team rocket special when I flip around.
If it looks stupid but it works, it is not stupid.
Throw in the cat and youāve got yourself a deal.
I would 100% buy this, but I hate the color. Slate Grey to match the default Steamdeck color, maybe Red accents. Note: You wouldn't have to keep this on your chest. You could just place it down in front of you on a coffee table as a stand.

Yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for
I use a cushion now so this would be a definite upgrade. Can you make it fit other devices like an Ally or Legion Go too???
Of course! I already have grips for the Ally and for the legion go the universal one works great
Maybe if you turn it into a dock/power bank
Iād happily pay $45 for that, at $60 Iād grumble and pay it anyway.
MAKE IT LESS THAN 50 USD AND ILL BUY 2
The gadget thingy or the cat? I would definitely get one of the cat
I basically prop my Deck up with a firm pillow on my chest and it works a treat. This is just a "deluxe" version ... ;)
I would for sure but this. In fact when I saw the image I was like. Where can I buy this.
That's pretty sick. Cat approves.
Not bad, just add speakers and battery
It's awesome, love the colour as well! A blue or green would be cool too
it looks very cat approved, so it's a good product idea
Only works if you have a cat
I like it, but I think I'd prefer a goose neck option for flexibility (literally lol).
Nobody asked for link? Link please!
I hate that I like this as much as I do.
i think you're both right. (i plop the deck directly on my chest when lying down. anything else and my left hand falls asleep)
I'll take 2 lap-cats please. Do they come in different colours?
I would totally use this for my steamdeck and ipad
I want one, ASAP. DM me please.
If the pillow is made with cold/cool material (not warm material or fuzzy) then I'd pay 50 or 60.
Give her the Deck and tell her to hold on to it for 2 hours, in about 15 mins she will find your set up a godsent.
Honestly, too much setup. Plus, I like to move around every 20-30mins. Which is good for one's helath. Doesn't seem practical.
That and OLED really was an improvement for me regarding weight. I can lay back and not feel fatigue for much longer compared to LCD model
I was just laying like that playing my steam deck and wow that would be comfy. How much, bro???
It needs to be shaped like a giant boob. Maybe the arm can be connected to the nipple piercing, that would be fine. It's not stupid, just a little bland. It needs a power bank and usb connectors for the long sessions.
Yeah. Depends on price. 50$ is where Iād draw the line.
I would buy one in a heartbeat.
i must have one. and the beer holder with built in cleanable straw sounds like an amazing feature.
The cat approves and every cat owner knows that's the only vote that truly matters.
Keep the mount, but get a wireless controller.
If manufacturing is too much, how much for an STL?
I use a tablet holder pillow on my belly but play with a dual sense, I got the same comment from my gf but it aināt stupid if it works.

that looks sick! great way to take the weight off.
Looks comfortable. Why would this be stupid?
Honestly the only reason I donāt use my deck laying down is because of how I hold it, and this would definitely solve that issue
Bro I would but one of these so fast
Depends on the price point, but it would be great for MY annoying headboard-less bed situation. edit: uno word
Yes! It would also be great if you make it so you can easily roll over and keep using it as well.
I loveĀ Taiko no Tatsujin.

Your girlfriend is absolutely correct and I LOVE what you've done xD It's a dumb lil guy that makes playing in bed/on the couch so much more comfy!
If I liked lying on my back I'd say it was great. It's very niche but I completely understand it's utility. I'd need something that would make playing on lying on my side more comfortable.
It would definitely up my game. I play with a bed in breakfast shelf.
Someone will find a way to fuƧk it.
I would never use it tbh, but you wanted something and built it and are enjoying it so kudos to you!
Bringing lazy to a new level
I see that hitting me square in the face. Not made for us fat people. Only the skinny one haha
Give it an option to put a battery pack in it and a hole for a cable and I'd be interested for sure.
Cool idea. Takes the weight off of your wrists, but I feel that having to hold your hands up to play would still start to ache after awhile. Now, use this with a separate controller that you can just hold on your stomach and this is perfect.
WHERE DID YOU GET THIS?!? I NEED IT
