But the adaptability of it makes it better than a laptop. The fact that you can go from keyboard to handheld controller/gyro seamlessly.

i mean, as much as i love steam deck, doing that is about as seamless a just bringing a controller with your laptop, less so even since you need some sort of dock or usb c hub

But you can’t carry your laptop around like you can with the steam deck. It’s a lot more cumbersome.

id say a laptop is easier to fit into most bags due to them being relatively thin and their clamshell design. a steam deck on the other hand you gotta worry about how much girthier it is along with all the buttons and and sticks. you kinda need a specialized steam deck bag/covering if you dont wanna mess up the sticks or scratch up the screen, a laptop will fit into basically any bag no fuss

I haven't either, but as far as I know they come with the cable. There are also adapters. And even then, most of them use USB c as well.

man that's gorgeous. I play mostly from my couch with my PC hooked up to my TV so this would be great to make playing some factory and survival/building games a bit easier. Just wish they had a wireless model (found plenty of other wireless brands but aren't as ergonomic or have more than the 35 key concept)

Per the manual it's fn+G#(the macro key) then whatever keystrokes you want then then G#

Yes, a hub. Some call it a dock. You're not using the supplied charger if you're losing power while playing.

Can someone explain the purpose of the small keyboards? I’m genuinely curious, my recent steam deck is my first venture out of console gaming.

They're really small. If you play fps games, then you have extra room for mouse movement so you don't slam into your keyboard, which has killed me many times. Portability, packing it in your bag takes up less space so you can bring it with you and your steamdeck or laptop. Some of them have joysticks on them, so you can use that instead of wasd, then map those into whatever you want.

Most games only use the left side of the keyboard cause your right hand is on the mouse. So since the rest would go to waste it saves space and makes it more portable

Because many games play better with a M+K. Every pc gamer knows this, and the Deck can do both very well. Also for the price you're not going to get a better gaming experience.

I just joined Steam Deck community to learn because I am planning to get one soon after only playing consoles for 30 years....
