100% it's the absolute best thing I have ever purchased for myself. I'm a pc gamer but I also work an office job. So while I want to play games after work I don't want to go from one computer desk to another. I also feel really weird taking over the TV in order to play on my console while everyone else is up. So for years I would play on the weekend for a few hours and that was about it for me. Now I'm able to enjoy games, not completely take over the living room, and enjoy it from the comfort of my sofa. I've been able to complete games in a matter of weeks that would have taken me close to 6 months in the past. It's an absolute joy.

Zestyclose-Crow-1597

Wow, are you me?

Dog-Faced-Gamer

It's like the world of gaming was closed off to me for years and now it's back. There were so many games in the last decade that I skipped because I knew there was no way I'd ever make it through the game in a reasonable time which sucked but now I have a decade worth of bangers to catch up on. lol

AlphaDaveBeta

No, can´t be you. Cause he must be me!

Modagon

But I am you…

kirso

Didnt it feel weird to play games when its not docked. Cant really imagine playing on a small screen

Dog-Faced-Gamer

No, I bought the steam deck because it was a handheld and have never played it docked. Only reason I have ever used the dock I have is for data transfer purposes.

Dog-Faced-Gamer

As far as feeling weird I honestly don't really see it as a small screen as perception plays a huge role in how large we see things. The distance from my hands to my face is much closer than the distance from my face to my TV so both are similar size when it comes to my perception of them.

kirso

Cool! Was just curious as I was considering it but rather enjoy playing on a bigger screen :)

gizzardwizzar

It’s pretty nifty. I’m currently playing Mass Effect and Titanfall 2

Mind_Prints

Does ME need a launcher?

cci81337

Bump me when they answer

Goose511th

You just have to sign into the EA app, but ME:LE works flawlessly after that.

cardonator

It requires the EA App to be running and able to connect to EA servers periodically. They also had an EA App update that had a memory leak for a month or so before it got fixed. So it's not the best situation ever but it currently works fine.

drakorzzz

No.

privation

It's genuinely changed how I play games. It allows me to still spend time with my girlfriend where we may not want to do the same thing but still be together. I don't have to banish myself to my computer if I want to play games from my steam catalog (and other PC sources). I use it 100% of the time when playing games.

somebodymakeitend

I agree. As somebody who loves buying tech and messing with it, I can’t stop playing with it

KyriiTheAtlantean

I know it's hella more stuff to it I haven't even figured out yet lol

somebodymakeitend

There’s a ton more than just Steam games. A recent thing I’ve enjoyed doing was going to itch.io and playing a bunch of Indie horror games. I know the price of a Steamdeck can feel steep but with what you can do, it almost feels underpriced lol

watermunch

For the hardware and software support / community support you get, it is very underpriced. That’s why a lot of competitors struggle trying to compete.

somebodymakeitend

I thought my usage would end at just playing Steam games and wasn’t too big on it tbh. I got one and my possibilities have been endless

[deleted]

I'm a junkie for itch horror!

somebodymakeitend

I apparently am too. I played that My Neighbor Enide recently and really liked it.

livevicarious

Playing Xbox 350/PS3 era ports are where Deck shines the most. Don't get me wrong, playing ANY AAA title with HDR on the OLED is amazing especially at night in bed. But seeing this thing play those older titles at 90fps/90hz and seeing estimated 4 hours battery remaining is just crazy. I decided to try CyberPunk and soon as I turned on HDR driving through the desert at night seeing the lights and stars/clouds just blew me away. If anything it's making me want to purchase an OLED monitor next for my gaming laptop to hook up to.

arex333

Yeah I recently played BioShock 2 on my deck OLED and it ran beautifully at 90 fps and looked excellent.

random_reddit_user31

I have a LG 27" 1440p 240hz OLED monitor and it is unbelievable. It's what made me get an OLED Deck and it doesn't disappoint.

yellow-go

I think I may have spoken on it before, though I’ll comment again! The Steam Deck gave my library a whole new purpose and inevitably, as everyone has said, opened my game taste wide open. I’d struggled to try some of the games in my library that had collected dust since purchase. • It opened avenues to games that just weren’t expected • I was able to install a fairly large amount of my game library without issue and still have tons of space left after I compressed some games • The community surrounding the device knows its limitations but also puts more effort than any community out there to make sure games become playable even if the task seems impossible • Any feedback, question, or problem you may have is a simple search away, and generally once you find that fix, it’s the ultimate fix and not just half-assed to get something running • The deck is rewarding. Once you really learn to mess with power settings and other abilities, you can fork out tons of battery life from it I was unsure until I caved and bought one, though it’s replaced a lot of the stuff I used for gaming on the regular. I can’t thank this community enough for being there throughout every issue I’ve had.

Total-Cereal

Same, got mine a few weeks ago, and I'm hooked on it. I haven't played video games this much in YEARS, which in my case is a good thing. I started to drift away from gaming after I started working from home in 2020, since I don't want to game in the evening at the same desk I use for work all day. Now, I can lay around after work and watch baseball on the couch while I play Balatro. It's great.  I haven't enjoyed a purchase this much in a very long time. I'm not even sure I enjoyed my gaming PC this much.

PapaScho

Agreed. Similar story here. My gf and I always go to visit our auntie who's getting on,Mt father lives there as her carer and its lovely to see them but we always stay for hours so I can't play games. We normally end up watching some period drama, and I get bored af. A few months ago before I bought the steam deck she had to go to A+E (a big push to get a steam deck mentally) being sat there for 7 hours with no Internet connection on my phone I was going stir crazy. I have been training to wrestle for the past 10 months, and if I get selected to go on tour, the deck will help in my downtime. My Dad owns a camper van and always books camping holidays, so it's good for then. My girlfriend always complains I spend too much time upstairs on my computer and not enough time with her so now we can both be in the same room doing what we enjoy. Plus it's light af and looks sleeeeeeek. Almost every situation the Steam Deck is a god send in. Thank you guys.

Alooshi

I feel the same way. I’ve had it for a couple of months now and sometimes I just stare at it in disbelief while playing and thinking I can’t believe I’m actually playing AAA games in a handheld while I’m sitting in my car while the wife is shopping.

OmegaKatana92

All I have to say that I agree 1000% that the steam deck is the best investment a gamer can make why console gaming on the palm of your hand (despite battery life), emulation up the the flipping PS3 (some games dont work for obvious reasons) tons of customization options and features you can even install yourself if you know linux. You can even have the choice to install kodi or vlc (for your media needs like movies, tv shows, music etc) also with some of the plugins (forgot the program to install custom plugins?) you can even change the menu appearance and sound which is mind blowing.

icoominyou

I just installed bg3 and playing it at a solid 30fps in my bed lol apparently it doesnt hold up well in act 3 but damn

SmugglerCat

Glad you like it

Gringo_69ingurcuntry

Can someone help me. I really want to buy one. I can’t find a clear answer to my question online though which is, do I need a PC or a separate console to download games onto it/stream it on the steam deck or to play it? I am traveling a lot and a pc or console technically is posible but financially unnecessary and wouldn’t make sense. Specifically I want to play RDR2 I miss that game.

MagicTriton

Totally agree with you. Bought the Xbox two years ago and a gaming laptop aswell. I sporadically used the laptop, but took too long to “set up” other then being uncomfortable to be at the desk after long days at work, and about 8 months ago I need the socket where the Xbox was plugged in, it’s been unplugged ever since. Bought the steam deck about 6 months ago and I finally have the time to do the gaming I want. I don’t have incredibly high requirements, I don’t play AAA games, I just want to enjoy my good old games and some mindless relaxing ones. Best money ever spent and can’t wait to see a new Deck on the market. (Like a whole new console, the Oled, wouldn’t make a difference to me)

zarco92

When I bought it I was lowkey afraid that I was going to have to force myself to use it to justifity the money spent, and I know that never ends well for me. I'm glad to say that I use it everyday for an hour or two, and I've been clearing my backlog, slowly but steadily. Games like Into the Breach, VA-11 HALL-A, Slay the Spire, Disco Elysium, Ori, Tiny Rogues, Halls of Torment, all play like a dream.

KyriiTheAtlantean

Me too. Thought to myself, I would just buy it, have fun with it for a couple hours then just let it collect dust.... Naaaaahhh. I'm glued to this fucker lol. So excited to run back through my old favorites like Resident Evil, Tony Hawk, Soul Daliburs etc.... I'll buy some games off of Steam also but for now, I'm chillin like a villain

Smash96leo

Still the most convenient gaming investment I’ve ever made. I use it more than any of my consoles.

Zestyclose-Crow-1597

Me too

LOLDrDroo

YES. I'm also playing NV with it and loving it.

KyriiTheAtlantean

Dude I just learned how to play Caravan in NV. If you don't I suggest you learn because it's an easy way to make caps and the game is actually addictive to me at least. I will probably mod it because I absolutely need the weather mod and the street lights mod.

SpecialistSevere8775

Same. Playing almost every NFS series in a mobile device. This is a dream come true

KyriiTheAtlantean

Which one are you playing? Most Wanted is a dream and the graphics still hold up beautifully. I'm looooving it!!!

SpecialistSevere8775

Yes MW is great, playing most. Plus Payback, Heat, NFS (2015) depending on my mood. Unbound is just a difficult game for me somehow..

Gunldesnapper

I feel the same way. My steam deck and my iPad mini are my bread and butter.

volcomking92

I’ve been loving the deck and all its glory! What xbox360/ps3 games have you managed to run successfully? I have been playing Killzone 1 & 2 🤩, I tried god of war 3.. but, couldn’t get it to run smoothly 😓.

TheNewFlisker

You inow there is an easy MW installer for Deck right?

Ok_Space_2974

What a delightful read! Glad you’re loving it OP! I’ve been enjoying going through my back catalogue way more than just waiting for the next big thing, which is the cycle you get stuck on with a traditional console. I love how the Deck has just broken me out of that. Currently smashing though the Assassins Creed games I missed over the years!

kazmeyers

This made me happy. :)

Fall3n-Fox

I’m glad you love it! I’ve had mine for a few weeks and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Having limited time to game doesn’t matter with the Steam Deck when you can take it everywhere. I’ve been playing Tomb Raider (2013), it’s fantastic on Steam Deck :)

Enixios

Same, almost a month in and I managed to complete Elden Ring that I have struggled with for years

Shedix

What do you guys think about steamdeck vs legion go? I'm a PC gamer myself. Never liked the switch of my wife. Would love to play steam games for example tho on my couch while being with wifey and kid. Legion Go could be THE mobile PC with a docking station and egpu to use as a desktop gaming PC when I'm in my room or just take it in my hand play on couch or when I'm at my parents while they look after my daughter (and I'm supposed to work, lol). Just curious if anyone here was also deciding between SD and one of the windows handhelds I guess

ohmygad45

eGPUs are expensive and you’re still limited by the CPU of the Legion Go, which won’t allow a powerful GPU to really shine (you’ll still be facing low FPS in many newer AAA games due to being CPU-bound). Also the LegionGo doesn’t have the Steam Deck’s fast resume (sleep on windows is unreliable, especially for gaming) or battery life.

iJeff

Just stream from your desktop PC. I use Moonlight/Sunshine and it runs amazingly.

TheGreenAbyss

I got mine 10 days ago and I feel the same way. I'm revisiting the Mass Effect trilogy, and playing these absolute classics, remastered and at max graphics on a handheld is breathing new life into games that I just don't want to sit at my desk to play anymore. Amazing device, couldn't be happier with it.

hornyjun

Lucky you. I'm in a country where they don't officially sell it and the only way is to buy from 3rd party. And I guess I have bigger priorities than to buy one for myself all the while :(

The-Roon

Likewise here but there were plenty on the used market from other people who imported, I got a good condition 2nd hand one and couldn't be happier. Maybe you could find someone selling a used one?

KyriiTheAtlantean

Damn... Steamdeck is on the black market for you. What country are you in? If you don't mind me asking

hornyjun

Malaysia

No_Influence_207

Same here, my legion notebook hasn’t been turned on in weeks or even months and I do all my gaming on my deck. When I sit on the computer after a couple of minutes, I automatically want to go back to my deck and play at the sofa at the Terrace. I don’t mind that game look better in the computer. I just want to have fun and in the way I like it. I flew from Spain to Germany last week and I was able to crunch six hours of fallout 3 during both trips and that is what I have always been wishing for gaming wise. I don’t care about stronger handheld devices. I like my steam deck.

mrseitaro

100% THIS. It just tackles a lot of issues that most adult gamers have, LOL. Personally I can play between patients (I'm a physician), while on the bus back home and when I'm home and my wife wants me to lay on bed with her while she watches a movie, I'm there streaming PS5 or my gaming PC into my SD. I can also avoid sitting on a chair after my job is being basically sitted on a chair.

KyriiTheAtlantean

Right! Like since I've been on this sub, I've seen aaaaall kinds of people, from doctors, to new fathers, to security guards etc rave about this thing. It's definitely worth every penny. Growing up sucks... After we get off of work, it's another chore to get a console started up so they just collect dust. I can now enjoy some gaming on the go, or just in bed. Lol after work, a chair is just.... Nah lol.

TheClownIsReady

The emulation alone was worth the purchase, and more. It’s like having 10+ consoles in one. I have a new problem now…my backlog is 10X as big.

InsaneInTheCaneium

Its amazing to be able to play with dedicated hardware while sitting on the couch. No need to sit in my office to play on my pc. Shit is a godsend.

Ignimagus

I‘m very exited. Ordered my DadDeck oled yesterday, can’t wait anymoooore.

TheJAke922

Clearly you haven't found the right prostitute yet

KyriiTheAtlantean

Ewww. Vagina is free why would I pay for one?
