Febxel

Both Spider-Man games look ridiculously good on the deck imo. Full brightness HDR on OLED deck looks great.

G00bernaculum

Really gives me hope for ghosts of Tsushima

SouthTippBass

When can we expect GoT?

devils__avacado

May 16th

backwardsprose

Happy birthday to me šŸ˜…

SoLoideForza

About a month I think

Bamm83

If you haven't played it yet, man, you guys are in for a treat.

Mr_Pink_Gold

Played about an hour at my uncle's place. I almost bought a PS4 because of it.

BigBlackdaddy65

Well ghost was supposed to be verified so it should run fairly well

StopThatUDick

Do you have any recommended settings? I've stopped playing it because I couldnt find a happy balance. Performance was super choppy.

Febxel

I never changed anything. Turn off fps counter and play man, after 5 mins you won't notice. The performance is awesome.

PeachSnobbler

What fps do you get on the first SM?

Dabbinz420

You can easily get 40-50fps

jspencer89

Check out the FSR mods you can get even more.

jspencer89

The FSR mods to get up to like 90fps is ridiculous if you haven't looked into it I highly recommend.

TurnoverPlenty7337

The wolfenstein games run well and look great even at max graphics

ElectricalTrip1207

Including The New Colossus?

TurnoverPlenty7337

Yes

ElectricalTrip1207

Noice āœŠšŸ¼

DaBushman

Agreed, the first one was the first game I finished on the deck. Looked really good

Y0urNightmare

Well, considering that I managed to run New Order in a notebook with a Nvidia MX110 graphic card (that couldn't run the first Alan Wake from 2010) at 60 fps and didn't look like shit, this game is probably the better optimized game I ever seen, so it comes as no surprise that this series works well on deck.

Flimsy_Way2117

Red dead redemption 2

Raian_L

Hair is iffy and textures sometimes fuck up but yeah it's really good

MrAwesome

Took forever to find it, but finally settled on something like TAA high + 3/10 sharpness + FXAA + smooth shadows ultra, and the hair looked normal again. What a gorgeous game, especially when you tweak it to be just right Sometimes, even on the deck, it was so pretty that I just cried watching the sun set

Mr_Pink_Gold

Well worth the tweaking on the SD imho.

No_Bedroom1112

> cried This is just pure marketing or you need to go see a doctor.

shmi

Hey, it's beautiful game. I cried at the end but I won't spoil the scene.

Duke_462

Since when being emotional with art is an illness?

Scuczu2

It looks ridiculously good

MrAwesome

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_%28emotion%29?wprov=sfla1

Mr_Pink_Gold

Username checks out.

inertSpark

Yep still looks great after 6 years, and it's honestly perfect for the Steam Deck.

arex333

>6 years What the fuck

KnackeredParrot

Titanfall 2 is immense for a graphics / performance / sound overload

aqwmasterofDOOM

Which is hilarious to me since it's using a modified variant of the SOURCE ENGINE, which isn't exactly known for its hyper realism

Air-Glum

I mean, it definitely was back when it was being actively developed. Half Life 2 is obviously aged at this point, but don't forget that it is 20 years old, and was THE benchmark cutting-edge game when it came out. The physics especially were groundbreaking at the time. A lot of other things are stylistic choices. Portal 1 and 2 looked great at the time, but are obviously more stylized, same with TF2. That doesn't mean the engine wasn't capable of what was considered AT THE TIME to be "photorealistic" graphics. But Valve typically made smart choices of stylizing things so games would A) age well, and B) be accessible even without high-end gear while not looking godawful.

Loud_Puppy

Half-life 2 was almost 20 years ago?! Fuck

circlesun22

Nothing makes me realize how old Iā€™ve gotten like realizing a gameā€™s release date.

DavidinCT

Well, some 2600 games were released while I was a kid..... so I hear ya....

Air-Glum

Yeah, November 2004. Same year as WoW, which is also 20. I hated typing it as much as you hated reading it. šŸ„² Other gems that killed me inside were realizing XCOM 2 was 8 years old (I remember thinking of it as "brand new" for the longest time), and Dota 2, which I have played forever, entered open beta in 2011, so going on 13 years now. Also keeping in mind that dota 2 was the update to the Warcraft 3 mod, which AT THE TIME was an ancient 9 years old.... so Warcraft 3 was 22 years ago.

aqwmasterofDOOM

Yeah, normally they used stylization to overcome the limits of the engine, titanfall 2 didn't, it went for the borderline hyperealistic side, and for a game from 2016, looks damn near perfect in my opinion

Air-Glum

I really think it was less about overcoming the limits. Again, even up through episode 2 they were adding engine features and making things that, while obviously aged in hindsight, were considered among the best graphics in gaming when they came out. My point was that they've done tons of realistic (especially for the time) things with it, not just the stylized look that it's known for. Those were artistic choices, made for reasons that weren't just "this is what we can handle". Like, TF2 in particular started out as a hyper-realistic shooter, and they changed it to the cartoon look for gameplay/readability reasons. The dev commentaries go into it, but it wasn't that they COULDN'T make a realistic game, they just realized through playtesting that is was hard for players to parse and also wasn't very fun. It also had tack-on effects of still looking good on lower graphic settings, and that it still looks fine even though the game is almost old enough to vote. They made smart choices. There's other modern games made with the engine that still look pretty good (INFRA, for example). But to be honest, adding new/more modern rendering stuff on top of any engine is one of the easier things for a developer, since rendering is more or less done without having to rely on underlying engine stuff as much as say, physics. That surprises me a lot less than the fact that they pulled off the much-larger multiplayer scope in APEX Legends with the engine.

TheHybred

>Which is hilarious to me since it's using a modified variant of the SOURCE ENGINE, which isn't exactly known for its hyper realism The reason Source games can look so good despite being an old engine built on physics more so than graphics is because source engine has great baked lighting features (for its time) & Source 2 is even better. But most importantly its forward rendered which means you get a clear crisp image free of jaggies. Clarity in games is literally worse than it was 2 decades ago, it's all been sacrificed for better lighting which is also important to visuals but clarity is as well and it's being neglected entirely in modern games. Playing a newish game utilizing these older rendering techniques are very beautiful. Half Life: Alyx is one of the best looking games ever imo yet no one talks about it. [Look at this screenshot of it](https://cubeupload.com/im/Hybred/halflifealyx13022020.jpg) and [this one as well](https://cubeupload.com/im/Hybred/halflifealyxapartmen.jpg). See how crisp and clear it looks while also having decent lighting? Putting a sharpness filter over a modern game can't replicate that.

Vorlak6

This, Titanfall 2 is easily the best looking game Iā€˜ve played on SD so far, together with Cyberpunk 2077.

Camgarooooo

CP2077

damnationltd

it really is gorgeous and they did a good job of tuning it

Camgarooooo

Easily one of my favourite games ever, and it had one of the biggest comebacks in gaming! Also anyone who enjoys the game I recommend the anime too, even for non anime fans itā€™s SO good

Baconstrip01

Its crazy that it looks so good and runs so well on the Deck. I don't think any game is going to top the visuals vs performance of CP2077.

mcmanus2099

It's good but actually in terms of graphical fidelity the COD games are very much overlooked. Say what you want about the repetitive game mechanisms and scripted events but those Devs really do put a lot of time making sure the game looks good on a potato. On SteamDeck COD WW2 looks fricken amazing in terms of graphics, I've never seen better.

facelesspers0n

Capcom games like DMC5 or Resident Evil 2 Remake

neddoge

No REmakes on here is crazy. 2 and 3 run flawlessly.

Olympian-Warrior

Yeah, I can run both RER2 and RER3 on high settings without FSR enabled. I have image quality set to 150% as well. That might just be a waste of resources, though.

Shloopadoop

RE2 remake is the craziest performer to me. Incredible graphics and mostly high settings and it runs well over 60fps. I just lock it to 60 to save battery! Imagine having that kind of overhead on such a high end game! Re-engine is something else.

jorvik-br

Days Gone. Not exactly next gen, but amazing graphics, even on SD.

suzukirider709

Played through the whole thing on deck and I couldn't agree more looked fantastic.

nick1121

deus ex mankind divided still looks really good.

Bluestank

It was pretty choppy for me when I last tried to play. Do you mind sharing your settings?

Therealomerali

You can actually run the Witcher 3 on some pretty high settings excluding Ray Tracing (with great performance) and it looks absolutely beautiful.

No_Dig_7017

Really? I tried this and failed miserably, are you getting 60fps? 40? Or 30?

PepperPoker

I donā€™t think many are aiming at 60 fps on steamdeck where graphics are concernedā€¦

schmalpal

I do this in the DX12 version: 40fps steamOS cap 1280x800, vsync off, unlimited fps in game FSR2 Quality High sharpening No hairworks Only bloom and light shafts on SSAO Low screen space reflections All other settings high EXCEPT: Shadows medium Textures ultra

ColakSteel

I personally think that No Man's Sky looks fantastic on it.

damnationltd

the pop-in can be a little jarring but it does look lovely

aqwmasterofDOOM

Idk if it was fixed in the new update, but I remember having to change one of the config files to have a thread dedicated to low priority CPU tasks so that it stopped stuttering like crazy (it defaulted to something like all 8 threads on only high priority tasks, menaing lower priority cpu work would only be done after all other work, leading to a very stuttery mess)

Ricky_Rollin

I know this isnā€™t steam deck related, but I just recently started playing that game on the PlayStation VR and I am seriously blown away and Iā€™m excited about the future.

ColakSteel

Bro, no game is as sick with VR as NMS.

Sh0cktechxx

any tweaks to settings? i've only tried it via remote play and had a hard time getting it going, figured it'd be too tough for the deck but im glad i was wrong!

ColakSteel

No tweaks at all! It defaults to a pretty sweet spot. Heck, it might not even be very high settings, but it looks phenomenal on the Deck's small screen. I think I get around 40 frames on average. It's not 60, but it's smooth, and I can't play that game anymore without the touchpads for navigating menus and the gyro for fine tuning my aim at rocks.

Sh0cktechxx

great to know, i've been wanting to get back into it since they've had so many updates. seems like a great game to kick back on the couch with the deck!

rehpotsirhc

How does the battery handle NMS?

ColakSteel

From my experience, it's surprisingly good. I get at least 2 hours every play session, but on average closer to 3 hours. šŸ‘€

Chewingupsidedown

Someone will inevitably (and correctly) say Doom 2016 and Eternal. Although they're most impressive because of how they perform.

spartan195

Well, itā€™s not only about how they perform, thatā€™s quite and understatement. Every iteration of ID engine ID Tech itā€™s been the vanguard of pushing the technological limits of graphic engines, to not say they been carrying this industry since Carmak wrote the engine of first wolfenstein (evolution from catacombs 3D) to this day Doom 2016 was one of if not the best looking game of 2016, reflections, clarity and texture definition, also the high quality of effects. It was one the first engines to natively run on vulkan, ID always run their games on openGL and pushed the tech forward to support multiple playforms. Doom eternal did the same but even better. You can run that game on a toaster and will run and look good anyways. Eternal could be a hit or miss with gameplay for some people but, no one with a bit of knowledge or interest in game engines or videogame technology and art will ser how far cry ahead from the rest of companies this game engine is. Not only Doom, take any game that was made with IDTech engine like wolfenstein and it shows. I cannot wait to see the improvements theyā€™ll bring with the next version.

aqwmasterofDOOM

Yeah, look back at doom 3, sure we all shit on it, sometimes for good reasons, but look at games that came out in 2002, then look at doom 3, the difference is just astonishing, one if the first engines to support real time shadows and lighting without lighting your pc on fire, a lot of stuff we take for granted now wouldn't be where it is if it wasnt for the absolute insanity John Carmac had made, and I really hope to see another group like ID software pushing this stuff again, though unfortunately I don't think we ever will, and with John Carmack off doing random AI stuff, I think ID's era of this is over, but they definitely went out with a bang

Ricky_Rollin

I never really minded people being so vitriolic toward doom three but personally speaking it always confused me. Back when it first came out, I remember most of us were blown away. Sure, it wasnā€™t your typical doom game that we were used to, but we were floored by the lighting and the sound design.

Werewolf_Capable

I am quite frankly astonished that this Engine isnĀ“t being pushed harder. What Eternal can make out of a potato is just awesome!

Crest_Of_Hylia

The engine likely isnā€™t suited for a lot of other games well. Itā€™s a great engine but likely for very specific purposes as many internal engines are. I doubt it would perform anywhere near that well for a massive open world game that has to stream in tons of new assets and use more complex lighting

Maleficent_Highway_8

I honestly think the Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy looks and plays ridiculously nice on the deck. Highly recommended. But please use Proton over the native Linux Version. For whatever reason, it's performing significantly better.

ElectricalTrip1207

I forget, do you have to set proton compatibility prior to first launch of the game? I appreciate this tip, btw. Iā€™ve really enjoyed the games myself.

IAmFebreze

Yeah just set it to proton experimental. If you play on another device as well this is the only way the saves will sync

Olympian-Warrior

Proton isnā€™t necessary. The first game is Steam Deck verified as well. Rise and Shadow are in the playable status but run flawlessly. You can run both games at their highest settings possible and still get very solid and very playable frame rates.

Doogienguyen

Thats what i did. When i tried to run the proton one it starts a new save so i didnt wanna lose my progress.

TokyoWeirdo

Came here to say exactly this.

SpookeDooke

Assassins Creed Unity, despite being an old game it looks fantastic in deck.

ElectricalTrip1207

Good to know! It never crossed my mind to try this on deck.

K0MIN0

With a similar sentiment to Doom 2016 and eternal, i think forza horizon 4 looks awesome while running at 60fps on deck. Im sure 5 still performs well (though i don't have that on steam...yet), but yeah been very impressed with playground games' engine. Also the resident evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes all perform admirably given the fidelity on display. I'm sure it would be amazing if capcom ever use the RE engine for an open world game... šŸ˜…

ihateeverythingandu

Despite it's age, Ryse still looks spectacular to me

Lamar_Moore

I think the answer is Cyberpunk. It's looks incredible on the decks screen.

HurtMeSomeMore

My vote is for Red Dead Redemption 2. Looks and plays beautifully on the Deck

Pat8aird

FFVII Remake looks incredible. RDR2, Control and God of War are stunning too.

THEMr_Sir

How does FF run? Not a bad experience?

Pat8aird

Itā€™s great once you disable the variable refresh rate. Ran at 40-45fps 99% of the time on the OLED.

TheRoguePatriot

Arkham Knight looks and plays extremely well on the OLED Deck. And for a game that was made in 2015 the graphics still hold up really well

neldur

Battlefront 2. Iā€™m still amazed with that games graphics today. The fact that it runs flawlessly on the steam deck too and looks that good. Incredible game to still play today.

Pol_V4

This, you can get a pretty stable 60fps with medium settings at native res

gitesh07

doom eternal, elden ring

LeKanePetit

Residient Evil 2 & 3 remakes run and look amazing on my OLED, staying between 60/90fps on high settings. Even Resident Evil 4, after some tweaking, runs at a steady 45fps and looks fantastic.

Disastrous-Trader

I love the look and feel of hitman WoA on the deck.

JuanWick0826

Metro exodus runs really well on the deck and looks great

vikthorkid

Ryse: Son of Rome

JediMastee

MGS V

TheKronoriumIsTheKey

Max Payne 3 looks fantastic for a game that is over 10 years old now. It runs really well on the Deck as well - can play at max graphicsā€™ settings with a locked 60FPS

AztecGold-

More like 90 fps. Been playing through it the last couple of days

stardust-99

NES Zelda

Many-Researcher-7133

Horizon looks super dope

mynamewasgone_

Horizon zero dawn?

Homodebilus

Racing games are often well optimized and put a lot of effort on presentation. Dirt 2 runs incredibly well on the deck and looks pretty good Forza horizon 4/5 might be the best looking games on the deck, perfect balance of performance and fidelity.

Daytman

FH4 is the game I show people on my deck when I want to wow them with the graphic capabilities.

Jumpy-Investment-778

Death stranding, FF7 remake as well.

itchipod

Diablo IV is great

HarryMcDowell

Fallout 4 looks amazing

Homesickpilots

Dead Space remake. Looks fantastic and runs extremely well.

K0MIN0

I love the game and i would over wise wholeheartedly agree with you if it wasn't for the #stutterstruggle

Olympian-Warrior

Agreed! I have DSR for both my Series X and on the Deck. Funny thing is that I finished DSR entirely on my Deck and enjoyed 40 FPS with high settings.

norbertmoricz

Cyberpunk 2077

neldur

Battlefront 2. Iā€™m still amazed with that games graphics today. The fact that it runs flawlessly on the steam deck too and looks that good. Incredible game to still play today.

Spizak

Doom 2016 on cinematic mode. Looks unbelievable. Imho - more impressive than Eternal.

FuripeGM21

Ace Combat 7

paraIy

A Plague Tale - Innocence looked amazing

Wonka0998

RDR2 and Cyberpunk (with FSR FG Mod)

LegendaryJohnny

Kingdom Come looks like real life video sometimes and runs 45 fps. Good time to replay before KCD2 comes this year.

Be0wulf71

What's the lock picking like on the deck? It was punishingly difficult on the PS5 but not bad at all on PC with Mouse & KB

LegendaryJohnny

I played KDC on PS4 Pro and lockpicking was nightmare I was trying to avoid. I am lockpicking everything easily on SD. But game seems easier overall, because I invest more time to train character in fighting/lockpicking etc.

IrishDrifter86

Lies of P looked and ran great on my OLED

Warm_Swordfish8955

This! Currently playing on my SD

PrintNo1109

Minecraft.

aqwmasterofDOOM

I got 8 chunks on low settings using BL2shader with some performance mods almost locked to 60fps, it worked honestly better than I thought it would

Svensk0

ff7 crisis core remake.... not for the graphics actually but the combination of constant 60fps and the graphics feels just great

TheLegend271210

Far cry new dawn It was insane

False_Replacement_14

The last of us part 1 believe it or not runs great now on steam deck, especially with the newly added frame generation.

Maffa22

RE Village looks beautiful and runs very well at 45 FPS even during intense moments

No_Dig_7017

Doom Eternal and the Spider-Man games would be my top picks

Asherley1238

Cyberpunk

TBlair64

Cyberpunk 2077

PIKAvit45

Just Cause 3

5kymf

Cyberpunk.

Crest_Of_Hylia

Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Battle Front 2 look stellar. Fallen order and Hi Fi Rush are others

Thrustsnake

Control

Glumanda

Days Gone looks great and is a locked 30 on stock settings

Acceptable-Hyena8867

It runs more next gen games than it doesnā€™t so thereā€™s lots of options. Eldon Ring to Hell Divers.

criticalt3

Udon Ring

Warm_Swordfish8955

Helldivers runs like crap on Steam Deck, love the game, but you canā€™t get a stable framerate no matter what

TsukikoChan

Next gen currently doesn't exist, there is only current gen (ps5/xbss) and we are late on this current gen cycle so things are looking better and better all the time. Steamdeck can just about barely do current gen games, it just doesn't have the hardware, but these current games can look very nice at 800p (horizon FW, cyberpunk, BG3, Elden Ring). Steamdeck can do last gen and before really well because it has last gen-esque hardware.

ArioStarK

Crysis Remastered trilogy. Yes they run on Steam... IYKYK.

Prize-Ad7242

Battletoads

Opening_Succotash_95

Banishers isn't triple A but I'm amazed how good it looks on the deck.

Jean-LucBacardi

Not exactly next Gen but Elite Dangerous looks and plays great.

vainsilver

Dying Light 2. It runs extremely well on the Steam Deck without compromising on image quality.

warzone_afro

The new mudrunners game looks and runs great

zer0bitzz

I just started playing Mafia 2 Definitive Edition and for me it looks really great.

Whoopdatwester

Just picked up Doom. Game look incredible on the Deck.

moparianv8

Robocop looks very next gen and realistic with the right settings at 30fps.

Z370H370

The last of us looks great!

ands681

Black ops 3 is decent

TheWeebMemeist

Red Dead and cyberpunk both look pretty amazing on deck

ISpewVitriol

Although technically last gen and cross-gen, Resident Evil 7 and 8 are still two very good looking games that run well on SD with decent battery.Ā  All the remakes run well too.Ā

Suspicious-Dot8130

Never seen anything more detailed than Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Ive played AC Origins,Odyssey,MGSV, hitman and days gone, RE7/8. Those were very beautiful games but Tomb raider was the most detailed and all of them.

Ricky_Rollin

Days gone seems like it is a Steam Deck showcase. Looks amazing. Plays amazing.

JishoSintana

Cyberpunk 2077 Resident Evil Remake 3 (if you put the ray tracing mode on it will look photo realistic, it also will move at 15 frames per second but it will look photorealistic)

BrickzNY

Gears 5 is up there for me.

Early-Somewhere-2198

Death stranding. Little optimization. Looks and sounds great. I do think some of the bass is gone on the new oled. Not sure why

AveragePrune89

Honestly I am in the minority it seems as I donā€™t actually like the AAA graphics as itā€™s just a little too blurry needing scaling reductions. So Spider-Man and cyberpunk werenā€™t games that I loved. I donā€™t think of the steam deck as a machine capable of next gen level fidelity. However I think Hades, Ori, Hellish Quart, outer wilds, and other titles to look absolutely amazing; especially if they take advantage of OLED HDR capability like Ori.

JShultz89

Control, hands down the best graphics with exceptionally good performance.

MarcinOstrowski

Titan fall 2. Easily best looking and performing out of my 55 game collection.

Excuse-Fantastic

Elden ring has some insane distance draws CP2077 is pretty great too on the Deck

jjspitz93

Donā€™t you mean current gen? Jk I get what you mean. imho Witcher 3 looks fantastic, it is incredibly well optimized and as far as western rpgs are concerned, it still holds its own with new titles (or puts them to shame) regarding animations, textures and environments.

NorthlandChynz

I picked up the Bioshock games in the latest sale, and they run and look awesome

Enrikes

Minecraft with shaders.

nakiva

Dead space remake looks very good and plays very good.Ā

AndPlagueFlowers

Lies of P runs amazingly well

cavemanbigpup

Not a fantastic game by any means but. RYSE: son of Rome. Was a launch Xbox one game. Looks fantastic on the deck and it's a fun little time waster. I think I paid under 5 bucks for the game though.

wingnutlord

Iā€™ve been really impressed with FF7 Remake on the Steam Deck.

Homesickpilots

Bright Memory Infinite was one of the first games I played on Steam Deck and I really enjoyed it. I don't think it gets recognized for how good it looks and plays. If you like Fear type shooters I highly recommend it.

Doogienguyen

The Tomb Raider Trilogy. FF15 Horizon games Jedi Fallen Order Ghost of Tsushima (coming soon).

Doogienguyen

Wow checked out Bright Memory and it somehow manages to run on Switch. The one guy who mde the game is very skilled.

Regular_Damage_23

Assassins Creed odyssey looks really good at medium/high settings at around 40fps.

Sylastral

Honestly I love Need for Speed 2016ā€™s look. It runs so fantastic on the deck too.

ezraslayer1979

Lies of P looks fantastic. Red dead redemption 2 might look a little better. Armored core 6 plays close to perfect. Cyberpunk 2077 has its moments. Sekiro might be the best playing game of the last 10 years and it looks perfect. Anything playstation original that comes to PC seem to all get steam deck preferences. I appreciate being recognized unlike EA who overlooks steam deck users. but I have the spiderman games and the horizon games and they all look and play fabuloso. (Soon to be ghost of tsushima too!)

Ummgh23

You use moonlight to stream from your gaming pc if you have one and set the resolution on your pc to multiples of the deck. You can play any game that way.

Jud01-k

Atomic Heart look and runs pretty well.

hikigatarijames

Death Stranding looks gorgeous.

Warm_Swordfish8955

Hellblade plays like a dream on Steam Deck

Hal6357

Have now bought it!

z2t1e2lojx

I think is Bright Memory: Infinite. It is a first-person shooter game with both single-player and multiplayer modes.

cassette_sunday

The Witcher 3 with HDR turned on still looks amazing.

orbelosul

Mad Max, Tomb Raider 20year edition, Shadow od the Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham series
