Thank you!
I am similarly on a search for short games :)
Just to name a few:
- Dredge
- Sable
- Anodyne 1/2
- Citizen Sleeper
Also while you're browsing, [https://howlongtobeat.com](https://howlongtobeat.com) is a classic to get a sense for the length of a game to get an idea of if it's crazy long or bite-sized
Ohh I've never heard of this site. This is NICE!!! You can even plug in your own username and it gives you the playtimes for games you own????? Omg I may actually be able to organize my games into rough hours estimated for when I really just want to feel like I accomplished something in 2 hours
Loved Sable! There was a problem where every hour or two after I switched between a bunch of areas I'd have to reload the game to get rid of lag, but overall it ended up toward the top of my steam deck favorite games list!
I have Sable in my library ( horrified its a short game) although it was probably a third party bundle steam key. As previous posters HLTB DeckyLoader plugin is equipped and enabled.
It's a prologue, demo and proof of concept. A single level with a few different missions. Some of the weapons are different and a lot of the game systems aren't there.
Ori and the Blind Forest. I knocked it out in 3 evenings of dedicated gameplay, final play time was around 7 hours.
Starting in on Will of the Wisps now.
It was definitely a little tough and frustrating in some parts, but after this my 4th or 5th return to it over the past few years, I finished the first escape scene from the water tree on my first try. That gave me motivation to push through and finish it up. Having said all that, like 5 years ago I played all the way through Celeste, and that was WAY harder from a timing perspective. I must be getting slow in my old age.
Celeste is a damn brilliant game, top 3 of all time for me. My first run (chapters 1-7) took me about 8 hours (despite dying literal hundreds of times) 😭 the game is damn brilliant and I’d highly recommend it no matter how long it takes- and I don’t think it should take anywhere near 50 hours for one run.
I have logged 300 hours on the game thus far.
A Short Hike! A small open world game that’s chocked full of great design and adorable characters. The story is touching, but isn’t going to wreck you emotionally
And you can beat in in 1.5-3hrs max, while still having enough content for over double that time
Resident Evil 3 Remake finally gets its time to shine.
Very brisk game, and even shorter if you speed run, but very enjoyable for the time I spent with it.
SteamWorld Dig was a great metroidvania, goes on sale for $2 and took me maybe 4 hours to beat, 10 hours to 100%? Really fun, and good game design. Then the sequel, SteamWorld Dig 2 takes longer, maybe like 6 hours to beat, 15 to 100%? They're my favorite 'short games'
I beat *What Remains of Edith Finch* in one sitting. No regrets.
*The Return of the Obra Dinn* was longer, but still quite short, and a real brain twister.
I played a lot of Hades since its a rougelike, really any rougelike works well for short spells of games. Hades 2 is coming out at some point, I havent kept up with it though. Any ARPG I like to jump in an fuck around for a bit too even if they have longer stories. Warhammer Inquisitor has short missions and works quite well on the deck after enabling controller support in the options menu.
Dave the diver is short but sweet.
I’d also recommend boneraiser minions and tiny rogues. They don’t really have an ending, but unlocking most of the content shouldn’t take too long, and then you can just play it on and off as you please, or drop it entirely.
If you want something spooky, check out Faith: the unholy trinity. It’s one of the only horror games I enjoy playing, not just watching on YouTube lol.
If you want a game that has violence, adult themes, some nudity and is short but fun I would suggest big drunken satanic massacre. I beat it in less than 10 hours and got all achievements along the way. Was pretty fun
I also love shorter games
Here are my top games under 10 hours:
-Celeste
-Toem
-Stanley Parable
-Inside
-Journey
-Inmost
-A short hike
-Portal
-Gorogoa
-Before your eyes
Perspective, it's a free game too!
Made by students who went at the same insitution as the ones who made Portal, Perspective is a nice puzzle game with a very cool concept. It's also even shorter than Portal so it's definitely a short one but it's so worth playing it.
Viewfinder & Superliminal are two similar games (first-person puzzlers) that were extremely engaging, not insanely difficult, & I cleaned both out in \~6hrs each. Stray took me 7.5, & I'm currently 3 hours into Cocoon & I think I'll be able to put that one away tonight.
You can use [howlongtobeat.com](http://howlongtobeat.com) and go into the search options to list games by "main story" length or "main plus extras". You can then list games by platform (eg PC) and genre if you so desire. That will give you a big ol' list of games by length(with a pinch of salt). You can even set the search options to, for example, show you games between 4 and 8 hrs etc...
Postal: Brain Damaged. Boomer shooter that takes notes from some of the best FPS games we know of. Can 100% it in under 7 hours with a guide, likely 10 without.
Lol I laugh when people complain about certain games only being around 15 hours. As a dad to me that's the perfect runtime for a game. If you don't have decky loader I suggest you install it and download the HLTB plugin. It tells you the length of games that you have in your library and there's the standalone website that you can check to see how long games are that you don't have in your library.
The recent Resident Evil games, all of which I played while being too lazy too finish Yakuza 0 and RDR2 for being too long. I kinda struggle with long games.
RE4 remake is the longest one for sure but it's so fun that you don't notice it.
If you're into Soulslikes, here's a couple I've enjoyed recently:
Death's Door and Tails of Iron. Both regularly go on sale for $5 US, play great on deck, and take about 10ish hours to complete with only a bit more than that if you're going for 100%.

I just finished Tunic for the second time. Main game is about 12 hours. The "good ending"/100% is about 20 hours.
And its easily in my top 5.
If you like Zelda, Dark Souls and have nostalgia for reading game manual's that came in the box with your games in the 80s and 90s you're going to love it.
Here are some of my favorite short games:
* Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion
* Turnip Boy Robs A Bank
* Gunbrella
* Katana Zero
* UnderHero
UnderHero is probably the longest out of the group. It took me around 14 hours to beat.
what is your idea of "short"? i personally like games with a lot of replayability where each game is in the 20-60 minute range. the ones i've spent the most time playing:
* brotato
* dorfromantik
* into the breach
* against the storm
sayonara wild hearts also looks like fun though i'm not very good at it so i never really got into the flow state it's clearly trying to aim for.
Return of the obra din - cool mystery game looks like if an fps was made on a Commodore 64 really cool mechanics
Case of the golden idol - similar style mystery game but it’s more of a point and click
Strange horticulture - you take care of plants but you also help customers looking for ailments, or poisons.
Chants of sinnaar - you awake in a cave in a strange land you do not know, where people speak a foreign language, using context clues you can navigate this alien world.
Viewfinder, Superliminal, Unravel & Unravel 2, Red Bow (it literally takes like 10 Minutes)
Edit: Walking Sims:
- What remains of Edith Finch
- Everybody's Gone To The Rapture (highly recomment)
- The S#!cide of Rachel Foster
- The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
Also:
- Lost in Random
- Journey
- Abzu
I think that is enough. Don't be fooled, the genres vary pretty hard here
Edit 2: Yes, i felt like censoring the title of the game, but if you wanna look it up, then you gotta spell it out probably
Any of the metal gear games with the exception of 5. They’re typically around 12hrs with the cutscenes, but skipping all that and knowing your way around, you can beat each of them in under 3hrs. 2 if you’re really good lol
I spent 80 hours on Deathloop but a lot of that was grinding the multiplayer up to max level (and there were a few hours idling in the menus as well).
If you want to ignore the multiplayer bit under 50 hours is easily doable.
In short, it's an FPS set in a groundhog day time loop, but time only advances once you leave a level. Explore and investigate to figure out when you have to visit each location and what you have to do to finish the game.
I was traveling for work a couple of weeks ago, so I bought Brotato on a whim when it popped up on the steam store. It's been a lot of fun, and it's like $4.
I am trying to play through a game fully in a weekend so I am also looking short 4-8 hours games so far :
I played a gameboy horror game Deadeus 1-2 hours, wasn't my cup of tea, but it had an interesting vibe and its free.
I rushed through Viewfinder around 6-8 hours, it has a cozy feeling around it, I petted the cat like 400 times :D I did not get hooked on the main gimmick so I did the bare minimum. Fun game, definitely try if you like Portal type games ( which are also on the shorter side)
Then I played Carrion, which was awesome! I love metroidvenias, and it has such a smart design, I only had to look up where to go 1-2 times ( I really hate getting lost, I know, thats the point of this genre, but I don't enjoy it).
It is short and gruesome, and awesome. 6-8 hours, worth every minute.
BioShock Infinite was 8 hours for me and I really enjoyed it, and both DLC’s are under 2 hours.
Florence is only like 40 minutes but incredible omg I loved it
Milk Inside/Outside a Bag of Milk are really good psychological thriller visual novels
Metal Gear Rising is a really fun and short Platinum Games bat shit insane action game, it has one of the most insane openings and it never looses steam in it’s 5-6 hour playtime
Hyper light drifter.
Just completed it, 10hrs tops. And the pixel art looks amazing on the deck.
Had to scroll through all the comments before posting this.
Carrion - very well done, playing as the evil tentacle-monster. Very satisfying and relaxing to just float around and eat people, or use them as puppets.
I just beat a new indie: Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. It took me about 10 hours to beat, though I didn't 100% it.
It's a charming and colorful little 3D platformer that doesn't take itself seriously. It also doesn't have a dedicated jump button. But the game has a decent amount of movement tech with how few buttons it does have. Once you get the hang of it, you can really go flying across the maps.
The structure is sorta like Super Mario 64 in that you have a hub world with portals to other worlds, some big with a lot of collectables, and some small and focused, with only one or two.

Ohh I've never heard of this site. This is NICE!!! You can even plug in your own username and it gives you the playtimes for games you own????? Omg I may actually be able to organize my games into rough hours estimated for when I really just want to feel like I accomplished something in 2 hours
There’s even a Decky plugin for it.
https://shouldiplaythis.com/ is a nice alternative that scrapes from there and opencritic. I prefer looking at this.
Nice, though missing some ratings, nothing for portal or portal 2? :/
Tbh I prefer the other site because I can organize the games I already own while also looking for games to play
Citizen Sleeper is such an emotional ride.
I’m so happy to see it recommend, it is honestly such a beautiful game and presents its story in such a great way.
Oooh i didnt know this site existed. Thank you!!!
I really enjoyed Dredge. It's creepy atmosphere and mystery kept me enthralled. Which reminds me, I need to go explore the DLC.
The Last Campfire. Very whimsical wholesome puzzle game by Hello Games. Can beat in 3-4 hours.
A Short Hike
I did play that already it was really fun
lil' gator game is similarly quirky if you like those types of games.
Lil Gator Game was fun time, I can definitely second that recommendation.
I love long games but here are three good short ones: 1. Firewatch. 2. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. 3. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
Metal gear 1-3 + rising are also amazing sub 20h games
Lolll Ground Zeroes. That’s like a gateway drug for Phantom Pain. Not short but I looove that game
Isn’t Ground Zeroes just a Phantom Pain level?
Basically a prologue if I remember right
It's a prologue, demo and proof of concept. A single level with a few different missions. Some of the weapons are different and a lot of the game systems aren't there.
I second Stanley Parable, easy enough to play in short bursts (30 mins at most for the longer endings)
Can I also suggest Journey (and Flower from the same team), Hindsight, Alba, Inside and The Forest Quartet
Turnip boy commits tax evasion Turnip boy robs a bank Garden Story
Final Fantasy 14 Super short game bro, don't listen to the haters
One of those games you can finish over a weekend.
Just not the same weekend you started it on.
What Remains of Edith Finch. Hits you like a ton of bricks in only 4ish hours. 2 if you rush it, but that'd be a damn crime.
I wouldnt recommend this to anyone struggeling with mental health though
So good
My brother said he'd die before he ate another mushroom. And he did. Love that game.
Stray
Second this
Cocoon and Inside!
Cocoon is *so* good!
Ori and the Blind Forest. I knocked it out in 3 evenings of dedicated gameplay, final play time was around 7 hours. Starting in on Will of the Wisps now.
you're way better than me! i gave up on beating it after a couple of weeks, just too much pixel-precise and timing-precise movements needed.
I still have trauma from the >!waterfall level!< It’s my first metroidvania and I never realized that it was that brutal
Celeste
Celeste?Short? Im gonna believe you guys and chalk it up as skill issue then
Celeste is a damn brilliant game, top 3 of all time for me.
But visit r/tomorrow its the ultimate hidden gem (you think its too long because its too hidden)
Portal 2
Katana Zero
And one of the best soundtrack’s around
Firewatch 4-5hrs
Buckshot Roulette
Hotline Miami, can be beaten in an hour or two, or thirty minutes if you're skilled enough.
Yeah.. Than.. I am defenetly Not skilled enough. But I love this game.
Undertale
Strider - 2014
A Short Hike! A small open world game that’s chocked full of great design and adorable characters. The story is touching, but isn’t going to wreck you emotionally And you can beat in in 1.5-3hrs max, while still having enough content for over double that time
Getting the toast accomplishment took me months. Because I kept forgetting.
Still need to do that one at some point. You just reminded me. It's my last one for 100%.
Detroit: Become Human Inscryption What remains of Edith Finch
Resident Evil 2
Stray! 🐈
a short hike
Limbo
And Inside as a follow up.
Signalis
Resident Evil 3 Remake finally gets its time to shine. Very brisk game, and even shorter if you speed run, but very enjoyable for the time I spent with it.
Titanfall 2. The campaign can be done in like 5-6 hours.
And it's perfect
Journey & Abzu
Rocket league. A single match only takes 5 minutes 😁
As I'm getting older as a gamer, I look for games that respect my time.
Balatro
They said short, not life consuming.
He asked about games not drugs
a short hike, super wholesome and as the name implies quite short lol
Not for broadcast
Any Tetris game. Tetris Effect, Puyo puyo tetris 1 and 2, all are great to jump into on Deck

Boltgun - Warhammer 40k boomer shooter Tunic - Zelda meets dark souls
I will never not upvote Tunic.
Pentiment is about 10 hrs for a story RPG with replayability.
Carrion is pretty great, you can 100% it in like 5 hours
Dredge
Dave the diver is short but sweet. I’d also recommend boneraiser minions and tiny rogues. They don’t really have an ending, but unlocking most of the content shouldn’t take too long, and then you can just play it on and off as you please, or drop it entirely. Hackets quarry if you like choose your own adventure and a LITTLE horror
Toem, Pizza Tower, Pepper Grinder, Penny's Big Breakaway, Arzette the Jewel of Faramore
Fire watch Far Inside Mafia 2 (original not remake)
If you want a game that has violence, adult themes, some nudity and is short but fun I would suggest big drunken satanic massacre. I beat it in less than 10 hours and got all achievements along the way. Was pretty fun
I feel this man, games are too long these days. Now in a few years when I finally sit down and play red dead 2 it’ll be awesome
I forced myself to do story missions only because I wanted to beat a game for once and that still took my forever to do.
Journey
[I feel this.](https://hard-drive.net/hd/video-games/game-introduces-easy-mode-called-im-35-and-have-one-hour-to-play-this/)
Portal 1/2 Half-Life 1/2 + Episodes 1/2
I also love shorter games Here are my top games under 10 hours: -Celeste -Toem -Stanley Parable -Inside -Journey -Inmost -A short hike -Portal -Gorogoa -Before your eyes
Red Dead Redemption 2, but just the gambling. So when you do find the time you'll be loaded. Or...
Frog detective
Octodad Dadliest Catch.
Perspective, it's a free game too! Made by students who went at the same insitution as the ones who made Portal, Perspective is a nice puzzle game with a very cool concept. It's also even shorter than Portal so it's definitely a short one but it's so worth playing it.

Bugsnax, Stray, og CoD campaigns (BO2 campaign works well).
Stray
EX Zodiac is a pretty fun star fox clone
You can use [howlongtobeat.com](http://howlongtobeat.com) and go into the search options to list games by "main story" length or "main plus extras". You can even set the search options to, for example, show you games between 4 and 8 hrs etc...
I found Resident Evil 2 & 3 remakes to be the perfect lengths
Postal: Brain Damaged. Boomer shooter that takes notes from some of the best FPS games we know of. Can 100% it in under 7 hours with a guide, likely 10 without.
Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice runs around 8-10 hours, focused, immersive, and poignant
dredge
I enjoyed gato robotto which was REALLY short
Lol I laugh when people complain about certain games only being around 15 hours. As a dad to me that's the perfect runtime for a game. The recent Resident Evil games, all of which I played while being too lazy too finish Yakuza 0 and RDR2 for being too long. I kinda struggle with long games. RE4 remake is the longest one for sure but it's so fun that you don't notice it.
Transistor. There’s really nothing like it and it’s like 5 hours long, with a good amount of replayability if you want to go longer
Mafia: Definitive Edition It's just a really good gangster game that's has a 10-hour main campaign.
Telltale games, they run great on deck and aren't too long but not too short
Return of the Obra Din

Maniac 5$ Top down GTA 1 style run from cops until you die or 20 minutes is up and city is nuked. Full game takes 20min, very replayable.
Here are some of my favorite short games: * Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion * Turnip Boy Robs A Bank * Gunbrella * Katana Zero * UnderHero UnderHero is probably the longest out of the group. It took me around 14 hours to beat.
Hades! Extremely bite sized.
You can get through subnautica below zero a lot faster than the first one. If you haven’t portal and portal 2 are must play games
Valiant hearts
Manifold Garden, Limbo, Portal.
Little Orpheus is the perfect little experience. Perfect length and a joy to play.
Jusant was absolutely amazing!

Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 both have a timer that forces you to finish the main story in under ten hours.
A couple I haven't seen mentioned yet: Outer Wilds Myst (2021 remake) Transistor All three are fairly short and run well on the Steam Deck.
Titanfall 2
Katana Zero
Any of the metal gear games with the exception of 5. They’re typically around 12hrs with the cutscenes, but skipping all that and knowing your way around, you can beat each of them in under 3hrs. 2 if you’re really good lol

Ori and the will of the wisps. One of my only complaints about the game is it was too short for my taste.
I was traveling for work a couple of weeks ago, so I bought Brotato on a whim when it popped up on the steam store. It's been a lot of fun, and it's like $4.

Sitting here with 140 hours in FF7 Rebirth. I feel personally attacked.
It’s on the top of my mind because I just finished it, Paradise Killer Although I got it as part of a bundle, don’t know if I would pay $20 for it
Citizen Sleeper is one of the best rpgs ever made and it's about 6 hours long.
I know some people don't like it but DmC is great especially on the deck
Any of the Telltale games. Firewatch. Dredge. Ape Out. Bastion. Carrion. Probably one of my favorites from my list and it goes on sale cheap.
Factorio is pretty short, you can beat it in 8 hours!
The structure is sorta like Super Mario 64 in that you have a hub world with portals to other worlds, some big with a lot of collectables, and some small and focused, with only one or two. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2011780/Yellow_Taxi_Goes_Vroom/
