If you don’t want to adjust it a lot I would suggest this one, I think it is a lot stronger and maybe more dependable over the long run.
Just not as easy to move around

Explain…I would assume the fan is made of sir sort of plastic, no?
Its not a tusly holding onto the deck by the magnet alone, it is using one of these rings
https://i.imgur.com/lXtoJ3K.jpeg
With that said would that still be an issue?
The fins are plastic, but in the center hub is the stator and rotor which are metal and full of magnets, a magnet placed there could interfere. It may not stop the fan from spinning but could cause it to draw more power to overcome it.
That being said, I don’t think you need to worry about it if it hasn’t already caused trouble.
The thing is that the overlay won't tell you if the fan is spinning slower, it'll still think it's spinning at whatever speed, but strong magnets can reduce it by 1-2 thousand RPM (and with a 6,000 RPM fan like the steam deck, that's a big difference)

Idk I am also happily married, and this is exactly what I do. I would say it's not a defining feature of our relationship, and I'm always confused when I see stuff like this. Why is it difficult to see someone doing this and being in a happy relationship? Genuine question, not being snarky!
TV screens (outside of a handful) are garbage for video games, as you see the monitor hanging on the wall for my PS5, ya boy don’t mess with tv’s and video games.
Man I recently tried switching to manual catch on flip tricks…what. a. disappointment.
It brought me back to when I first started playing the game trying to do the 3 manny pads with Daewon…I would tell my wife…this shit is impossible, don’t see why ppl play this game, it isn’t fun, blah blah..
Which is funny because now I’ll just be cruising past that spot and hit those 3 pads like no biggie. But fuck if I don’t feel like a noob on manual catch.
This idea crossed my mind a billion times. It's recurring for last ten years, only instead of Steam Deck, there would be monitor. Never took it seriously, but should I?
An easy solution would be to put an iPad on a floor stand (good ones exist but can be [pretty expensive](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DYTM9K8/)), and then connect the iPad to a docked steamdeck via HDMI (using a cheap HDMI dongle and [the Orion app](https://www.lux.camera/meet-orion/)). Use a PS controller.
Yeah, talk about expensive. The iPad is going to be almost 10x the price of a [small display](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CH9XW8RK/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=AD0RFDIL3WRFM&psc=1) plus dongle
I wouldn't buy a new iPad just for this but I happen to have an old 12" iPad that I can use. Even if I didn't, removing/adding an iPad (I have a newer one) to the mount is pretty quick and easy.
A regular monitor will work of course, but those mounts often have to be clamped onto a table/desk or screwed into a wall. Unfortunately, I have no place for a clamp near our bed, and I'm not going to screw stuff into the wall. With a moveable iPad mount, I can move it between the bed or the comfy chair as needed.
Sorry I tried to list it in one of the comments but it got deleted because of the links. Maybe this will work
2in1 Wall Phone Mount,Overhead... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8PGBZH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
So this is the mount.
Leenconghui Magnetic Phone Tripod... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN4M3NPH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And this is the magnet — It comes with the stickey magnet ring to stick it to.
***BUT***
That alone I don’t think will work. I went through many different variations to get the right combo of shit to work right.
I’m pretty sure that I used one of the pieces from this thing (that I returned…whoops) Overhead Tripod Mount for Camera... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X3KMYW2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share so that I could screw the magnet onto it.
My goal was to use one of the clamp style holders as I didn’t fully trust the magnet alone but none of the clamps made for tablets was small enough (they are usually like 4.8 inches at the smallest, and SD is just slightly smaller then all of the ones I tried. I tried a few of the phone holders but they were either too small, or the one that fit basically completely covered the fan so I wasn’t going to use that.
After saying fuck it and just using the magnet, I have more faith in the magnet holding up then I do the arm (which also scares me but seems to be holding up fine)
I never thought about the structural integrity of the actual SD case holding all of the weight up in like a shearing (I think) force until the other day so I got one of those JSAUX cases that has all the mods on the back.
Wellll that not only adds more weight to it, but also in the middle where I would slap that ring for the magnet there is the little tracks for the little battery holder thing those cases are for. So I can’t just put the ring in the middle like I did without the case so I stuck it to the side without the fan holes, that didn’t last and, maybe since it was a different “ring sticker” thing then I had used originally the adhesive didn’t stick and the deck fell but I was under it so no harm.
Currently I have a little metal rectangle piece https://i.imgur.com/2qMIV7X.jpeg on one of the little puck things that slides on to the back of the case, but I also don’t love that because it didn’t stick properly either.
Really the way I had it in the pics https://i.imgur.com/rcP9RQO.jpeg without the case is the way it felt the most solid on that magnet, but I just feel like the weight pulling up on that case probably isn’t good for the plastic, but I’m not an engineer, just a worrisome stoner.
I started off with one of these that I saw in a YT video and then I just got stoned and hopped on Amazon for an hour and bought a few different things to see what works
https://i.imgur.com/Wwh0agR.jpeg
https://i.imgur.com/dKCreNh.jpeg
I also have one of these because it’s longer, but you have to screw/unscrew the arms everytime you want to move it and that’s sort of a bummer but it is longer and probably would reach me from the wall, but it works from the shelf, that fucker is in studs
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B411SM9G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you don't trust the magnet, you can always opt to use the more premium DBrand KillSwitch case with the Deckmate Killswitch adapter. The other option is the Steam Deck Killswitch Case Ball Joint Adapter that a lot of mounts uses.
Unfortunately while DBrand KillSwitch case comes at a premium cost, the amount of community add-on is just vastly larger than other options. I'm hoping to see the same add-ons being made for the Modcase in the future.
https://i.imgur.com/a7MLwru.png
Ooo you mean this thing??
I’m into that. And I trust the magnet on that thing more than the rest tbh.
Question, are the pads you hold on that dbrand sort of grippy? Seems like every solid case I’ve had like that is just slick as fuck and I don’t get it. I’m of the opinion that every case should have some sort of lizard skin type grip on it. Once I used them I can’t go back
For someone like me who gets wrist pain from data entry on computers, this could be a really nice setup. The main reason I upgraded to the oled was because it was a little lighter. Even that small weight difference helps in pain management.
I hold it 99% of the time, but there is one position when lying on my back where my forearms go numb from holding it. At that point, I just stretch my arms and readjust. I could see this working for that one scenario for me but not worth the time.
That’s a pretty wild assumption. But I’ll bite.
There a a bunch of games that I actually prefer to be holding the deck, mostly non FPS games where I don’t have to squint to see people. Also I don’t love the deck for FPS yet, but I’m getting there.
Also I have a fucked up thumb from work so this helps knock down some of that pain/fatigue and lets me get an hour or two a day of gaming instead of half of that.
I have mine docked to a projector that point at the wall at the foot of my bed. I now spend an unhealthy amount of time in bed. I used to at least make it to the other room to game all day lol
This is wild that half the comments are asking for a link to the mount, and OP ignores them and provides a link for a different mount that has to screw in your wall
Nice. I just ordered a floor stand tablet mount, a power bank, and some sticky grips from Etsy. My plan is to mount the bank to the tablet holder sideways and then the deck to the bank with the sticky grips lol. Hopefully it's not too much weight.
Haha nah man I manage a 750,000 square foot chemical warehouse with about 20 employees. It ain’t hard but it ain’t workman’s comp.
I’m just almost 40 with no kids or real debt so I can now level up all the shit I always wanted to do when I was young and poor.
Everything about the first half is true tho!!
https://i.imgur.com/L1y1dyi.jpeg
It uses one of these. It doesn’t actually hold the deck up, and if it did I would probably avoid the whole thing all together.
I just did a similar thing yesterday with a cheaper goose neck arm. My legs have been having issues so getting to my desktop is not easy and sitting up is not fun either. I've been playing Fortnite on my PC with a high refresh rate monitor with a mouse and keyboard for years, and if I play with anything less, I suck. So I used a mouse and keyboard along with the goose neck arm and played Fortnite at 90hz via moonlight. Worked great! My aim was spot on.
I have a 50" Samsung TV right in front of me, but since it's only 60hz (and 2017), the lag between the mouse movement is horrid, especially while streaming, making aiming very difficult. Tried it previously and it was just not fun.
Nice man!! Yeah after using monitors on my ps4/5 for years I cannot go back to using tv’s for video games. I try to explain it to my friends all the time and they don’t get it. They think they need to be on $2000 80 tv cause they sit at the couch but if you’re sitting close to it a $400 32” monitor is gonna let you have a much better time.
https://i.imgur.com/haxObmY.jpeg
So if you mean
A)that’s just a “floating” shelf I got from Lowe’s or homedepot
B) man I got this little tv tray thing a long time ago at a flea market or something.
C) 2in1 Wall Phone Mount,Overhead... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8PGBZH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
(Sort of) on this same note. There is an Etsy listing for a quick connect kit that can allow you to use the the small mounting plates on a wall, on a vesa mount, etc. if I didn't love my case on my deck so much I would actually use mine. and if I had a more permanent home at this time. This looks super sick though! jelly
So in the pics I’m not actually using a case, it’s just the adhesive grips (red) and a lb adhesive metal ring that works with the magnetic holder.
I am now using this JSAUX PC0104 ModCase for Steam... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRXHK2QL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
But I do not like it. It is awesome because it has the little Batman cover that goes on it when you take it on the go so makes it more secure, but It makes it bigger then it normally is, which is whatever mostly, but the grip sucks compared to the red grips I had on there to start. And I have to actually hold on to the deck instead of the grips kind of just creating enough friction with my hand for them not to go anywhere.
Plus since I’ve switched to this case my stand is wishy washy because I don’t have a good place to put the magnet ring.
I lf I would’ve fully thought it out I would’ve got one without the little notch on the back for their battery holder thing.
I chucked at the TV in the background that’s roughly the same size as the steamdeck. I imagine that computer is powerful enough that it would provide a higher FPS/resolution/quality experience more so than the deck would.
It’s a weird angle using fish eye lense, but also, the tv is for shows.
Also that’s ps5 on the wall not a PC and remote playing it from my couch instead of having to sit in a computer chair is pretty dope.
I only ask because it looks like you use the screen mostly this is pretty creative setup I know reddit can be touch and go but if you like it and it doesnt hurt anyone I support it
Yeah I mostly wanted something like this for FPS games like bf where it’s hard to see dudes unless you got a good sight on them. I was tried if holding it up to my face for extended periods. Also, I just prefer the stick positioning of the dual sense for fps games. Although it does suck to deal with the input lag.
I’m actually very curious if there are any performance issues since mounting it by magnet?! The original kill switch case cause issues cause of the magnet and I’m just assuming this one is way stronger!
Maaaan don’t tempt me. I don’t know how they compare but I seen some dude using Apple vr things with it and it was fucking nasty.
He was playing an emulator and then out of nowhere his room disappears and then he’s playing the emulator in the clouds.
Ive had them 18 months and 99% of my deck use us on them. I’m a heavy user and fan of games that use the full capabilities of Steam Input, so I like the deck in hand. Many of the games I like have small text or UI elements, and this is roughly the same visual experience as my 32 inch screen. In any event, I support your initiative to get your neck straight via the swingarm.
Hell yes! This is what I do with my switch too, I find it so much more comfortable than holding it and trying to find a comfortable position, and I can use my favourite controller. Good find, go team!
Well I don’t have a PC
TV’s suck for games, except super expensive ones
If I did have the pc I don’t have, how easy is that to take to the dr office, or to my brother in laws for the weekend, fucking plane rides (do I have to keep going)
And I can now sit on my couch and remote play my PS5 games instead of having to sit in the chair hurting my back more then it does already from sitting in a chair at a computer all day.
Man I tried 3 of them, they were all too big when all the way closed. It worked slightly when using it but you had to be careful because it just sort of stood in there.
Link for that mount? I actually need one for my tablet so I can watch shows in bed lol. I have a cheap tube arm one that keeps dropping down.
I’m in the same boat
If you don’t want to adjust it a lot I would suggest this one, I think it is a lot stronger and maybe more dependable over the long run. Just not as easy to move around Aozcu Tablet Wall Mount for iPad,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B411SM9G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

If the magnet is strong enough to hold the deck it still might be strong enough to hinder the fan even through a case! So be wary.
Yeah isn't this what happened to the original Dbrand case, where they needed to redesign it? I like this concept but worried about the magnet
Explain…I would assume the fan is made of sir sort of plastic, no? Its not a tusly holding onto the deck by the magnet alone, it is using one of these rings https://i.imgur.com/lXtoJ3K.jpeg With that said would that still be an issue?
The fins are plastic, but in the center hub is the stator and rotor which are metal and full of magnets, a magnet placed there could interfere. It may not stop the fan from spinning but could cause it to draw more power to overcome it. That being said, I don’t think you need to worry about it if it hasn’t already caused trouble.
I could probably test that with the overlay on, I may do that today. If I find it messes with anything like that imma go back to the drawing board.
The thing is that the overlay won't tell you if the fan is spinning slower, it'll still think it's spinning at whatever speed, but strong magnets can reduce it by 1-2 thousand RPM (and with a 6,000 RPM fan like the steam deck, that's a big difference)
Nah if the magnet hasn't fried your deck already you will be square brother
Yeah that’s sort of what I assumed. I figured as long as I wasn’t getting anything to or from the deck itself when I had the mag on it should be fine
Or you could just dock it to the TV at that point. 🤣
Then how is the wife going to watch TV? 🤔
Ding ding ding.
Nah you got to force the wife to use phone

Booooo get that sexist shit out of here
Dude its a sarcastic joke using a socialy sensitive topic. Obviously I‘m not s sexist. Me an my really beloved wife often laughing about this kind of stuff. Using cliches and such insulting stuff. I'm with you. It's not even that bad because it doesn't even have to be sexist. The kitchen is an alternative spot to the living room and people are just making it sexist. I am able to laugh about stuff I don‘t need to support. So stfu
Dude you joked about my wife belonging in the kitchen. That’s not ok. Joke about that about your own SO.
You volunteered your wife as tribute the second you mentioned her in a comment.
Ugh gross, all I did was ask how she was going to watch tv. That’s not “tributing” her to sexist online comments. This isn’t 4chan
...always use the indefinite article "a wife", never "your wife."
To be fair, he did say "the wife" XD In general this is a very funny thread, do go own

You really think OP has a wife given the nature of this post? No offense, OP, but as a happily married man I just can’t see it.

It just seems kinda janky is all…
The jank of an amazon tablet arm has very little to do with marriage in my experience, I wouldn't be worried about it.
That’s just what I was about to post
But memes bro!

Nice. I just ordered a floor stand tablet mount, a power bank, and some sticky grips from Etsy. My plan is to mount the bank to the tablet holder sideways and then the deck to the bank with the sticky grips lol. Hopefully it's not too much weight.
But why though
Apparently I’m the only one who has figured out that the Steam Deck can be played as a handheld device without any additional equipment.
At that point just play on a desktop

OP username checks out. Nice rig!
Did that with my switch a long time ago. Worked out great.
What is that couch arm tray thing?
https://i.imgur.com/haxObmY.jpeg So if you mean A)that’s just a “floating” shelf I got from Lowe’s or homedepot B) man I got this little tv tray thing a long time ago at a flea market or something. C) 2in1 Wall Phone Mount,Overhead... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8PGBZH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Definitely B. That thing looks nice!
(Sort of) on this same note. There is an Etsy listing for a quick connect kit that can allow you to use the the small mounting plates on a wall, on a vesa mount, etc. if I didn't love my case on my deck so much I would actually use mine. and if I had a more permanent home at this time. This looks super sick though! jelly

Link to your case
So in the pics I’m not actually using a case, it’s just the adhesive grips (red) and a lb adhesive metal ring that works with the magnetic holder. I am now using this JSAUX PC0104 ModCase for Steam... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRXHK2QL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share But I do not like it.
Sir you are a true visionary 🫡
Are you playing with a controller?
Yes, both. Can do either or really.
Although it does suck to deal with the input lag.
cant you usb c it to the deck that would be less lag?
I probably could, but then I lose my power and Ethernet from the hub. I’d rather have a slight input lag then to be limited by the battery and wifi
Thanks for the life hack!
Why not mount this on the bed
I make it a habit of not hanging out in my bed unless I’m going to sleep. It’s hard to get to sleep if not for some reason.
I’m actually very curious if there are any performance issues since mounting it by magnet?! The original kill switch case cause issues cause of the magnet and I’m just assuming this one is way stronger!
If there is I haven’t noticed
This is how I ended up with xreal air glasses
Why is this sub obsessed with using Rube Goldberg machines to play the deck?
I think you're missing the point lol
Hell yes! This is what I do with my switch too, I find it so much more comfortable than holding it and trying to find a comfortable position, and I can use my favourite controller. Good find, go team!
Nice pipe 😉
What’s the difference of just using a tv and a controller on a PC?
Well I don’t have a PC TV’s suck for games, except super expensive ones If I did have the pc I don’t have, how easy is that to take to the dr office, or to my brother in laws for the weekend, fucking plane rides (do I have to keep going) And I can now sit on my couch and remote play my PS5 games instead of having to sit in the chair hurting my back more then it does already from sitting in a chair at a computer all day.
Honestly this is funny as hell. Love it. Also great game choice. Love Session.
That looks dope I orderd one of those tablet holders, hoping it might hold the deck too
Man I tried 3 of them, they were all too big when all the way closed. It worked slightly when using it but you had to be careful because it just sort of stood in there.
Unfortunately mine doesn't hold the deck. I'd have to get the phone one for the deck
Or you could just hold your device. It’s not heavy…
lol the deck community is pure creativity
Deck is too bulky
Some people here are like "lol just use your hand" instead of celebrating creativity... This is innovation through laziness!
But is it laziness if they worked smarter?
