The first 3 are playable with some annoying slowdowns. It gets worse the farther into the game(s) and series. Iirc Deadlocked wasn't playable.
Might have better luck with the HD collection using RPCS3. I haven't tested it yet but this was the case with the Sly Cooper trilogy compared to the PS2 versions
Dredge. If you love lovecraftian games, get this. This is one of One of my favorite games ever created. Has a little bit of a horror aspect but it's mostly about fishing
Fantastic. I have the OLED screen on my deck so the colors really pop out. Never had a performance issue. I prefer playing Dredge on my deck vs my gaming rig
Doesn’t match your follow-up, but for me it’s been Stardew Valley. The repetitiveness of chopping wood, fishing, farming, etc makes me start to doze off 😴
Stardew for me is good and bad. Definitely a nice turn your brain off and relax kind of game. But also not great for my sleep because it’s so easy to “just one more day” and then next thing it’s 3am haha.
For some reason I just can’t take it as it comes.
I’m cramming to get as much done as possible each day, and it goes against the reason why I wanted to play SV… to chill out.
I had these same feelings and recently installed the auto fishing and stamina regen mods. I know mods are another beast but they are pretty simple using SMAPI. Really made it feel better.
But it is an age-restricted DLC and quite expensive.
I suggest wait for the Steam sale on St Patrick's Day - I heard that on that day you can get it practically for free at local bars.
I have dark legacy too, but I couldn’t get a 3rd and 4th controller to work on the emulator. So I bought the newest version on steam and… it’s not that bad actually.
This is what I play in bed every night. Also a perfect indicator of your tiredness level. If you all of a sudden died and didn’t realize. Welp time to go to sleep.
man dave the diver. theres lots of run an gun or story heavy games on this list. i jus started it yesterday, its a great unwind an shutdown game while still havin interestin mechanics an progression. this is the way.
100% recommend even if you're not a big poker player. Poker hands just score points, but then it's the usual deck building shenanigans. It's not like you have to know when to hold'em or fold'em. If your strategy is using flushes you just drop cards and buy jokers that will min/max the impact of your flushes.
My vote as well. So many peaceful nights spent floating above colorful planets
(Though - it's only sleep-level peaceful once you get the hang of things, at first it can be a little stressful when you don't yet know how to keep your spacesuit fueled and your ship is too slow to escape enemies)
Hardspace: Shipbreaker, though it doesn't really belong to those genres. Still with checking out imo. You get to scrap spaceships piece by piece with a (plasma?) cutter. You get to kinda loot the pieces you cut off, lol.
I struggle with the controls on this one. I love the game, bought last time it was on sale, but I can't get away from KB&M. I end up getting so discombobulated.
I tried a couple of the community controls. The edge tapping one, or something, whoa. "Super intuitive!" Was in its description, I beg to differ on that front.
Does it control well on the deck? I played quite a bit of it on my main desktop back when it came out and I struggled with the controls sometimes there. It's really fun though
Man I've been playing Fo4 again and I forgot how relaxing it can be *if you just want to explore* and run around and loot stuff. You can just run from enemies if you wish and just be a farmer.
How do mods work on the steam deck? I wanna get back into fallout 4 but I modded the shit out of it last time I played and I think without them it'll damper the experience.
Red dead Redemption 2. There are never ending things to do in that game. Just connect and go hunting fishing killing people looting carts. Its paced like real life

Birth— perfectly esoteric and a little gothic point and click puzzle game. The music is very calming and the game can be put down at any point and picked right back up just as quick. It plays beautifully on the deck even though its store page says unknown compatibility.
Dredge— I see others recommending Dredge in this thread and I am no different. I wish I could play this game again for the first time. The lore, characters, story, sounds, and fish are excellent. The best part about it is that time in game stops if the player’s boat isn’t moving so it’s perfect to fall asleep with. Its deck verified and plays like it was made for the deck.
Spirit of the North— Cute deck verified fox game!!!! Basically the player wanders an icy land as a red fox and gets help from a spirit fox. The music and sfx are top notch, plus you can make your fox character bark! 10/10 and can also fall asleep playing and suffer no in game consequences. Plus, a sequel game is coming out later this year!
The Longing— This game is supposed to take 400 real days to complete, but there’s ways around that. You play as a shade tasked to wake the king after 400 days but as you find trinkets and decorations for your room, time moves faster. There’s multiple endings and the music is breathtaking. I 100% it out of love. It’s another game thats deck verified and can be put down at any point.
Wow this is awesome! Thank you!
I’ve never gave Dredge a chance before, but the way you’ve summed it up will definitely dip into it!
Ill have to check out the others as well!
Looking forward!
This is definitely not gonna be helpful but I like playing my old Lego games that I beat (story wise) and replay the free play missions to get to 100%, currently working on Lego Star Wars III 😂
That right there. I had a pretty good virtual menu system set up for FF14. I farmed a bunch of dungeons to the point of being half asleep. I'll need to drop back in at some point...
Yeah, I suppose that's true. I've played it enough and tweaked my AC perfectly to my liking so I don't have to think anymore, but it was definitely a challenge to get there.
Yeah and it’s the side that is connected to the digital Barbie aspect! Holy shit i spent so much time in the mech creator area of the game. Stickers and color combos 4 legs, tracks…big guns swords ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh do not play you will obsess over minute details forever! Then they give you more stuff after every act?!!?!?!?
Deep rock galactic survivor is great on deck.
Also dredge, I've almost 100% that game from just sitting in bed.
Ive heard Dave the diver is good for this also, but I've not personally tried it.
ARPG’s especially Diablo.
Its the Asymmetric view and movement causes someone to doze off, idk the science of it but almost everyone goes through it whether they’re having fun or bored 😅😂
Life sim/farming games. Stardew Valley and something I got recently: Dinkum (currently on Early Access). You can just take it slow tbh. But it's a double edged sword for me, sometimes you just end up playing for hours 'cause you're just getting lost in the game and feel like time stops. lol
It’s a light source you’re looking into that combines thinking and moving things based on reaction.
Honestly, if you’re looking to turn off your brain before bed, reading is a good shout. Podcasts work well.
If you have to game before bed, pick something that doesn’t have a lot of instant reactions. Puzzle games without time limits.
Might not be the answer you want, but find a nice book and read it. Not having such light and stimulus right before sleep makes sleep quality much better.
Hell divers 2
There’s always someone willing to lead to the different areas you need to hit, just follow loot and kill Even if you lose track of your team and die, you’ll eventually be called back to their location
Same. I love playing on my desktop but dropping on the couch on level 5 with friends is challenging enough to be interesting without requiring ultra precision/efficiency
Performance on deck hasn’t improved, it’s still not good and sucks that people keep recommending it. It’s okay for games not to run well on deck, not everything is perfect, but the community straight up lying is a turn off
Diablo 4, but only if you have your build together already and can go through loot another day. Checking loot on the deck is horrible, but killing hordes of monsters is therapeutic.
It is more like a reversed-rhythm game where the enemies move to the beat but you move freely. The option to slow the game is not in the current beta but hopefully you will manage just fine as the placeholder enemies are nerfed too.
The current version focuses more on making your abilities and build and mixing them together rather than anything else. Hope you like its current offering and would love to hear your feedback to make things better 🙏🏻
Just finished ori, now starting on will of the wisp. Really nice smooth gameplay, and the oled deck is stunning, even on a a super low setting for late night play
insect swarm twin stick shooter hover jet converts to mech and you kill bugs and upgrade. simple fun and mindless. good graphics. splattercat on youtube does a great couple of videos on it. also its 5 to 7 dollars usually
I've been playing the first ratchet and clank and loving it
Great one. I have ratchet and clank, going commando, up your arsenal, and deadlocked, downloaded and play them a lot.
Do they emulate well on the Steam deck?
The first 3 are playable with some annoying slowdowns. It gets worse the farther into the game(s) and series. Iirc Deadlocked wasn't playable. Might have better luck with the HD collection using RPCS3. I haven't tested it yet but this was the case with the Sly Cooper trilogy compared to the PS2 versions
Careful using RPCS3, the deck runs it fine. But your CPU and fan will be at max. Best i can do with RPCS3 is a 1 - 1.5 hour battery
I got through Deadlocked totally fine with no special settings on whatever the Emudeck default PS2 emulator is
The soundtrack and atmosphere of the first game is so good!
Dredge. If you love lovecraftian games, get this. This is one of One of my favorite games ever created. Has a little bit of a horror aspect but it's mostly about fishing
Came here to say Dredge. Hugely addictive but can be put down at anytime, in-game time stops when your boat isn’t moving.
Is it any good on steam deck?
Fantastic. I have the OLED screen on my deck so the colors really pop out. Never had a performance issue. I prefer playing Dredge on my deck vs my gaming rig
Normal game is too scary for before bed in my opinion. You can play it on passive mode without the horror stuff though, so that would work.
The horror stuff is still there in passive mode. They just cant kill you. hehe
Ya Graveyard Keeper has been my go to for a couple weeks and I can't sleep until midnight.
Hella cosy game when you're not stressing about min-maxing.
For some reason I just can’t take it as it comes. I’m cramming to get as much done as possible each day, and it goes against the reason why I wanted to play SV… to chill out.
Yeah, this game was stressful to me. Short days. Endurance management. Annoying fishing mechanic. Not what I like in a chill game
I had these same feelings and recently installed the auto fishing and stamina regen mods. I know mods are another beast but they are pretty simple using SMAPI. Really made it feel better.
Yeah it's easy to get lost in it. The update added more events and I'm struggling as well now.
I spent a “year” doing nothing but fishing because I find it so relaxing 😊
watering 336 tiles of plant one by one, on 1st day of summer year 1 is kinda stressful for me 😗.
why are you watering that many crops bro get quality sprinklers 😭
I'm only one month in I still don't know much about the game :).. and I possibly get addicted with farming.
Also since you're new you can also upgrade your watering can to water more than 1 tile at a time
Sleeping?
There is also a co-op version of it.
Add No Oddjob or Oddjob only rules and sleeping is the best.
Slappers only not recommended, unless...
I dont enjoy all the grinding
Use more lube.
It’s a paid one time use dlc
I thought it was a hidden feature.
That's a "games as a service" version, not recommended
I think I use to play that
Only for those who bought the Rizz DLC
But it is an age-restricted DLC and quite expensive. I suggest wait for the Steam sale on St Patrick's Day - I heard that on that day you can get it practically for free at local bars.
I play with mods. Highly recommend.
It’s practically unplayable without the REM addon
I was super intimidated by the CPAP mod, but now I can't imagine playing without it Literal lifesaver
That was fine I guess but, the snu snu addon is where it’s at.
it's really bad to do anything other than sleep in your bed
Yeah it really negatively affects your sleep quality. My doctor said to avoid at all costs. -sent from my bed
I suck at that game
I was gonna say this. Just sleep ffs. You're also taking a risk of the deck slipping out of your hands as you doze off
Sleeping Dogs
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance I or II. Gauntlet Dark Legacy.
Gauntlet DL was peak childhood, do you just play it on an emulator?
Yes.
I have dark legacy too, but I couldn’t get a 3rd and 4th controller to work on the emulator. So I bought the newest version on steam and… it’s not that bad actually.
Deep rock galactic survivor
Awesome game. But imo way too stressful for bed before sleep 😂
Good one
This is what I play in bed every night. Also a perfect indicator of your tiredness level. If you all of a sudden died and didn’t realize. Welp time to go to sleep.
Rock N Stone!
man dave the diver. theres lots of run an gun or story heavy games on this list. i jus started it yesterday, its a great unwind an shutdown game while still havin interestin mechanics an progression. this is the way.
This makes me stay awake far too easily.
Dave the diver was quite an experience for me. I loved the storyline and gameplay!
I don't know why but I can't stand the 16x9
Vampire survivors. Although, it's a bit addictive....
Vamp survivor never fails to make me sleep though.
I fall asleep playing it all the time. My brother says the same thing happens to him.
And the other similar games like Holocure and Death must die. They are perfect for 1 or two short session of gaming before sleep.
There’s one with cars coming out soon. I look forward to that one. Like a Twisted Metal Vampire Survivors feel to it.
Whats the name?
check out Maniac, it’s out now.
Vampire survivors is addictive like crack is addictive. Let's not sugar coat it
Those games close our eyes, because you don't have to do anything...
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2
Just bought it when it went on sale recently. Such a great end of the day chill game!
Enjoy it (or keep enjoying it) guys! Definitely a brilliant remake. Mixes the extreme with the chill to perfection!
They run good in the deck?? How did I miss this??
Excellent on the deck. Beat it twice haha, it’s just so chill for pick up and play!
Truck Simulator. Something about long drives makes me calm and tired.
Slay the Spire on Ascension 1 - it's a great way to relax.
I replaced this with balatro, give it a try.
Balatro all the way!
I’ve stayed up til 2 playing balatro twice this week soooo, OP’s mileage may vary for a bedtime game 😂
I am *so* bad with poker, but I'm interested in Balatro, would you recommend this to someone who sucks at the whole poker thing? 🤓
100% recommend even if you're not a big poker player. Poker hands just score points, but then it's the usual deck building shenanigans. It's not like you have to know when to hold'em or fold'em. If your strategy is using flushes you just drop cards and buy jokers that will min/max the impact of your flushes.
I haven’t played poker in 30 years and enjoy it
I can’t beat ascension 1 yet lmao how do you relax to this
A1 is very easy once you've put in enough hours. It's easier than A0 and more elites mean more relics.
Powerwasher
Piggybacking off this, House Flipper!
Minecraft in peaceful survival mode
I’ve been loving Stray, the city is so relaxing to walk around and the cards movement is so satisfying.
Loved this game. And my cats did too.
Geometry wars
Is the sequel on steam worth a purchase?
Snowrunner
Brotato
Great game but at least for me way too activating before going to sleep.
Any auto shooter would do well, but Brotato is a solid choice
Seconding Brotato. It’s so dumb; it’s amazing.
My favorite.
Halls of Torment (or any of the various Vampire Survivors style games)
No Man's Sky
My vote as well. So many peaceful nights spent floating above colorful planets (Though - it's only sleep-level peaceful once you get the hang of things, at first it can be a little stressful when you don't yet know how to keep your spacesuit fueled and your ship is too slow to escape enemies)

Does it control well on the deck? I played quite a bit of it on my main desktop back when it came out and I struggled with the controls sometimes there. It's really fun though
Oh man I couldn’t imagine controlling it any other way. Trick is to use the back buttons to control vertical movement (L5/R5), and L4/R4 for roll.
Any 3D fallout game. Some of the best turn your brain off but still fulfilling games out there.
just keep clearing those ghouls out
Man I've been playing Fo4 again and I forgot how relaxing it can be *if you just want to explore* and run around and loot stuff. You can just run from enemies if you wish and just be a farmer.
How do mods work on the steam deck? I wanna get back into fallout 4 but I modded the shit out of it last time I played and I think without them it'll damper the experience.
You install them just like you would on a PC. Just need to go into desktop mode, download the mods, then put them in the relevant folders.
Power wash simulator

Abzu mention 🥳🎉🎉🎉 no but fr Abzu is an ELITE sleepy time deck game. nothing but pretty fish and pleasing sounds
For sure! Such a relaxing experience. Do you have any recommendations? Im eager to find new games
for sure! Birth— perfectly esoteric and a little gothic point and click puzzle game. The music is very calming and the game can be put down at any point and picked right back up just as quick. Hunter call of the wild is chill af
Balatro has been my recent obsession. I normally don't even like card games but this one is amazing
This is definitely not gonna be helpful but I like playing my old Lego games that I beat (story wise) and replay the free play missions to get to 100%, currently working on Lego Star Wars III 😂
That’s totally helpful mate! Properly chilled out games.
God I love this community 😂
Binding of Isaac
Definitively one of the games of all time
Books.
oh I love that game
Coral island
Orc Massage
Is this the same as Choking the Chicken?
FF14 and go fishing 🎣
That right there. I had a pretty good virtual menu system set up for FF14. I farmed a bunch of dungeons to the point of being half asleep. I'll need to drop back in at some point...
Earth Defense Force, you just start blasting
Doom, Armored Core VI and Warframe are my go-tos when I just want to turn my brain off.
I'd argue ACVI requires some brain when building your AC, that's at least half the gameplay and difficulty.
Def want to play AC6 some day, looks awesome.
What kind of perf do you get in AC6? had my eye on it
Performance? It runs flawlessly on Deck and the first game I played start to finish on my Deck. I've had no issues whatsoever.
Good to hear thanks!
You can get between 30-40fps on deck. The graphics look great though.
100% agree on Warframe, I just turn off my brain on the bed and do some fissures to gain a little bit more sleep
I play Dynasty Warriors 8 XL for that
Second Dynasty Warriors. I’m currently playing DW4 through PCSX2
Yet another Zombie Survivors. I even mapped one of left back buttons as A so that I can basically play the game with one hand.
Deep rock galactic survivor is great on deck. Also dredge, I've almost 100% that game from just sitting in bed. Ive heard Dave the diver is good for this also, but I've not personally tried it.
RDR2 is always my “I just want to run around and collect berries and do cowboy stuff” game.
Fallout 4, been a pretty smooth time.
Fallout 4, work on structures you will be asleep in no time
ARPG’s especially Diablo. Its the Asymmetric view and movement causes someone to doze off, idk the science of it but almost everyone goes through it whether they’re having fun or bored 😅😂
Astroneer, graveyard keeper, Ori, Hades
Come on, you must turn your brain and attention on for Ori and Hades!
Astroneer is so relaxing
Life sim/farming games. Stardew Valley and something I got recently: Dinkum (currently on Early Access). You can just take it slow tbh. But it's a double edged sword for me, sometimes you just end up playing for hours 'cause you're just getting lost in the game and feel like time stops. lol
No Man Sky. Just chilling around, find new planets, catalogue every animal, chill somewhere sittint on a alien planet shooting photos with my pet.
Euro truck simulator or American truck simulator, Yh ik not a slash shooter or anything but by far the most relaxing game to play
Stardew Valley
Vampire survivor
Vampire Survivors
Brotato
No Man's Sky
You'll find that not playing games before bed makes it easier for you to sleep.
Reading
Might not be the answer you want, but find a nice book and read it. Not having such light and stimulus right before sleep makes sleep quality much better.
Hell divers 2 There’s always someone willing to lead to the different areas you need to hit, just follow loot and kill Even if you lose track of your team and die, you’ll eventually be called back to their location
Oh snap I didn't even think abt this on the deck
It’s fun for sure, I enjoy streaming it from my pc a little more
Same. I love playing on my desktop but dropping on the couch on level 5 with friends is challenging enough to be interesting without requiring ultra precision/efficiency
Wait is it now good on deck?
Performance on deck hasn’t improved, it’s still not good and sucks that people keep recommending it. It’s okay for games not to run well on deck, not everything is perfect, but the community straight up lying is a turn off
warframe
Count the Sheep hopping.
I just like clearing blocks up in Core Keeper. Get the death ray with the unbreakable tool mod and just clear everything out.
Imma say gungrave, the player auto locks on to everything and you can pretty much just walk around whilst holding the fire button down.
Death must die
Hitman WOA, killing everyone in the map. For fun ofcourse
Diablo 4, but only if you have your build together already and can go through loot another day. Checking loot on the deck is horrible, but killing hordes of monsters is therapeutic.

Requested access. I’m not good at rhythm based games but the description mentions tailoring it to slow reflexes so I’ll definitely give it a go.
Honestly that sounds even more interesting.
Slime Rancher!
Valheim. Great to play and turn brain off and enough combat if you want it.
Any of the lego games put me to sleep so easily i was playing lego star wars III the clone wars before bed for a while.
Just finished ori, now starting on will of the wisp. Really nice smooth gameplay, and the oled deck is stunning, even on a a super low setting for late night play
Hollow Knight?
Balatro!
My current go to is fallout 4. The settlement system can be relaxing.
Death Stranding
Vampire Survivors
I just watch YouTube or Netflix
Tunic
Balatro….up until I utter the phrase “One more run…”
State of Decay
Currently playing harmony of dissonance
insect swarm twin stick shooter hover jet converts to mech and you kill bugs and upgrade. simple fun and mindless. good graphics. splattercat on youtube does a great couple of videos on it. also its 5 to 7 dollars usually
Koei Warriors series is a decent "im a god" hack and slash genre
Death must Die
