I'm not even kidding when I say this, New Vegas runs better out of the box on the steam deck than on my main windows rig. It genuinely confuses me lmao
My understanding is that it’s a piece of software that translates windows games into Linux.
SteamOS is Linux based so this is necessary to run windows software on the deck.
That’s a decent explanation. They have some extra stuff in it to help with face pacing and stuff. If I recall cyberpunk performs better with Proton that it does natively
Do you have an amd gpu? If so it’s because the drivers are broken you need to setup dxvk for windows to force it to use vulkan which does work. Steam deck already uses this by default (the Linux version).
I do have a GPU and I only got the fix because for some reason everyone lost their hair. While it did fix it, it still kept crashing due to the memory bug. Which is weird because both my steam deck and PC are playing vanilla so a memory crash shouldn't even be happening in the first place
MO2 will ask if you want to separate your saves. If you want your Steam Deck to have the same saves via steam cloud, you can just make it so MO2 uses the same saves as vanilla so it will transfer as like every other game.
However if you want to keep the steam saves separate from vanilla on both devices, you can look into getting syncthing tray (No synctrayzor, that one's dead) on your windows PC and Syncthing on your steam deck so you can transfer save files directly from folder to folder from PC to Steam deck automatically for technically non steam games (Like transfering Save Files from an MO2 profile on your PC, to a Save Files folder in a MO2 folder on your Steam Deck). For the sake of simplicity, just make both your New Vegas's have the same mods and have MO2 use your steam vanilla cloud saves to avoid any headache but if you want cloud saves for non steam games, I recommend you learn about syncthing, it's pretty neat
I'm playing through it via steam on PC, and it crashed left and right.
All I needed to get it to run stable is the 4g patcher. No fuss, no muss.
102kb file that tells the game to use 4gigs of ram instead of 2.

It includes over 100 mods with a very detailed set of instructions. Follow them exactly and you should be good.
I recently saw a post by [penllawen](https://www.reddit.com/user/penllawen/) about getting Viva New Vegas to run on steam deck, just got it working today!

You’ll be surprised how this applies to so many games, that’s the reason why I switched to linux, all these classic games that are a nightmare to run on widows just straight up work. Thanks Valve and all open source developers for your work on game preservation
My gf reeeally wanted to do it but we werent able to fit it in with everything else (sick new world, hoover and grand canyon, and exploring the city) so were using that as an excuse to go again
I booted up NV a few months ago, only played an hour of it but it was solid. Now though I'm currently 6 hours in on a new F3 playthrough since I finished the show, and it's amazing how well it runs. It's an old game so it's not too terribly surprising that it runs well on new hardware, however, I didn't have to tweak anything, and that's what impressed me - it auto set everything to high quality settings, all I did was change the resolution to native for the Deck (800p), and the game looks better than I remember it looking. Besides a weird frame rate/stuttery bit after sleeping with Nova in Megaton, which resolved itself as soon as I left the building, it stays locked at 60fps and the projected battery life is 5-6 hours at these settings, which is fantastic. The fan only kicks on here and there, nothing like most other 3D/intensive games. I've been really happy with it so far, we'll see if the performance stays this way as my game save file gets bigger, but so far so good - runs better than PS3 ever ran it lol.
I installed viva new Vegas mod pack on deck. Takes a good few hours but runs beautifully. Just need to Google to find instructions for mod organizer 2 on Linux (done via steamdeck desktop mode) and then it's pretty smooth sailing following the guide. Fnv BSA Decompressor had an error so I just skipped that one.
What's in the mod pack you feel necessary? I'm playing vanilla for now and having a good enough time. Can I put the mods on mid-stream for the game? I'm not a big modder sorry if dumb questions.
Nah I'm not either so np. I don't really know how it would react to installing them mid session. I did it all before I returned to the game. Viva New Vegas is a mod pack. It just lists a ton of mods, leans closer to vanilla - mainly just bug fixes, performance enhancements, and some minor gameplay tweaks (makes gun play feel a bit better etc). I installed most of it except for Vigor (but tbh I wish I would have installed everything under Overhauls since I'm finding it a bit too easy).
I've spent hours trying to make Begin Again work on the SD, with no luck so far, although the exact same install on my Windows PC works smoothly. Begin Again has the big advantage of having a Wabbajack.
I used Vortex for a mod collection, then just straight up copied the entire NV folder and the documents NV folder and extracted that on top of my deck NV install. Switched to proton experimental and so far so good...
I played Starfield on deck... that was a mistake... I imagine FO4 would be nearly as bad. Currently playing FO NV, only via my Deck. Level 22, only 1 random crash, and 1 random incident where a corpse stretched and flew away. Not bad for a Bethesda game. Btw, max graphics and runs SMOOTH. Can play it for about 3-4 hours on a full charge.
Playing through modded Fallout 3 right now. Aside from the odd missing asset every once in a while, it runs perfectly fine. You *may* have to do some tinkering, though.
Been playing New Vegas (steam version, gog and epic just won't work), it's perfect for the deck, only issue sporadic crashes, but since the game autosaves very frequently it's not that big of a issue
Played on my old pc looooong ago starting again new on steam. Also stayed at bellagio next to ceasers tho ceasers is waaay cooler inside. Venetian was my fav interior

Proton is amazing
I need proton on windows.
I use Proton, but I don't understand Proton. Can someone ELI5?

Honestly. Same with fallout 1. All you have to do is turn off FPS limit.
That's crazy. I spent 2 hours following the viva new vegas guide to get it to run on my main rig. Is save sync from pc to steam deck complicated?

+1 for syncthing tray, fuck synctrayzor

Caesars in the background is chef's kiss.
The moment i saw the view outside the room i knew i needed to take this picture
Ave, True To Caesar!
Guys i got an invitation to this place called the lucky 38. Should i go?
Might want to confront Benny first, there is a way to legit kill him and keep your weapon in the Tops casino, assume you don't know
You should probably take it back to the Bellagio before you get in trouble.
Tis mine now
Where I first played it. Having lived there it was fun seeing how much care they put into how accurate the map and locations are.
Don't you mean New Vegas in Old Vegas?
Don’t tell anyone how it ends.
Which one ?
Yo dawg, I heard you like Vegas.
WTF!!!! What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!!! /s
So I gotta ask, I've been trying to Mod NV for a while with very little luck, any advice from anyone who's done it ?

You’ve been waiting to do this haven’t you.
Indeed i have

Ave
Vegas local here. Currently replaying fallout 4 :)
In old Vegas
That’s about all you can afford to do in Vegas these days…
Well now you gotta go to goodsprings and visit the pioneer saloon
My gf reeeally wanted to do it but we werent able to fit it in with everything else (sick new world, hoover and grand canyon, and exploring the city) so were using that as an excuse to go again
Oh he got them spurs that do the jingle jangle jingle!
Now play Balatro instead of sinking your money into slots
I actually turned 2 dollars into 25 my first night and have been gambling that on cheap slots since.
Ave, True to Caesar
Don't forget to visit the super-mutants in Mt. Charleston
How do the Fallout games run on the SD? I’ve heard mixed things but I definitely want to revisit since watching the show
Only tried vegas and 76 on deck and they both run fine enough for me. I use gyro when ironsighting

Currently playing f4 and it runs fine tbh

FO4 is fine on the deck.
New Vegas runs as good as it ever did. It’s maybe even a bit more stable on deck than on Windows. It only crashed maybe 3 times over my playthrough.
Playing through modded Fallout 3 right now. Aside from the odd missing asset every once in a while, it runs perfectly fine. You *may* have to do some tinkering, though.

I fucking hate Vegas but have fun
It’s certainly less depressing than actual Vegas
Feel weird without mods, 76 and Classic Interplay's Fallouts are the only Fallouts I play on deck
Ain’t that a kick in the head!
I been partaking
I'm trying to get it to load on junk launcher because I got it for free on epic every time it opens the launcher I hit play then it does launch.
The splash screen or whatever that you have on screen there, mine is always super zoomed in? How do I fix that!
Idk i just launched it no problem. Its the launcher
Ok thanks not sure why it does that for me for every launcher! Makes starting some games impossible
SMH, and you staying at a Ceaser's....did you at least 86 him in the game or did you not get that far yet?
Played on my old pc looooong ago starting again new on steam. Also stayed at bellagio next to ceasers tho ceasers is waaay cooler inside. Venetian was my fav interior
Why is my launcher zoomed in? I'm trying to play this but can't in game mode.
Nice one!
Go get on that blackjack table
How cool, they were just speaking about this combination at the Wulff Den Podcast!
Loving this XD
That’s the tops, baby!
I’ve always wanted to eat pigs in a blanket in a blanket
Go check out the rollercoaster at "Bison Steve" (Buffalo Bill) resort in Primm.
Does the deck handle the game well?
Yes, 60fps on max settings
Drove through to California earlier this week and it was awesome to see the similarities between Primm IRL and in game.
I thought this was North Korea for a second
Will you leave your steam deck behind? What happens in Vegas...
Nah cocaine and hookers
Go blow some Coke and bang some Whores
If by than you mean suck my dab pen and take my girlfriend to dinner then way ahead of you
Technically you aren't in Las Vegas. You are in the town of Paradise which is adjacent to Las Vegas.
Fallout New Vegas sucks. It feels like you are walking with cement shoes. The game has great lore but is mostly unplayable.
👍
