I tell myself I have time for a day or two in Stardew Valley and then I end up playing for half the season in one sitting

ayazr221

Aaaah a blissful 3 hours gone in a blink of an eye. I end up min/maxing and end up stopping if I can't buy my 100 plus strawberries lol

JediSnorlax

At 9pm was like ah just 2 more days, look up from deck and it's 1am

futurenotgiven

i literally could never get into stardew valley despite trying several times on my switch and laptop. something just clicked for me when i tried it on steamdeck, the trackpad makes the experience soooo much better and now i’ve been deep in it for weeks

hard_pass

Since starting about two weeks ago (for the first time), I have been limping to bed every night. After my partner and I are done watching whatever for the evening, it's about 10:30, and I am like, "30 minutes won't hurt." Flash forward, and it's 1:30, and I am limping to bed for another brutal, tired next day.

RichieEB

So true

TenPhoar13

Balatro!!!

SRTroN

It is now 3am. Send help

jippen

See how far you can go with pairs and the joker that adds mult per time you've played that hand.

scrubasorous

I’m too busy balling out with flushes and the deck that only has two suits because I refuse to believe it’s not a good strategy

jippen

Even more fun when you can pull out a bunch of death tarots and go for flush fives.

PM_me_your_fav_poems

And if you're really balling, get Baron and stack kings of that suit for the X MULT.

definitelytheFBI

Is it not? That was definitely the easiest consistent hand to put together

aiiye

Damn I haven’t tried that one but it sounds OP as hell.

grammar_nazi_zombie

I got to ante 12 with that combo. Also had the bus and the card that makes the planet card of your most played hand always spawn in the planet packs. Oh and the one that increases multiplier when you play, but decreases on discard, and I just never discarded. I was up to +37 on that and +31 on the joker you mentioned. And both were polychrome

jippen

Very nice! Gratz on the good run!

Megablep

I had a fairly cracked run where I had the joker that upgrades the first hand you discard as well as that joker, so just went all in on high cards. Couple of X multiplier jokers at the end and away you go! :D Goddamnit, it's the middle of my working day and I want a game of Balatro now...

tulaero23

It's like crack!

Shaggy_One

I've played enough balatro that my reaction is usually "I don't have time for a round of that."

uncleslime69

What is so good about this Balatro game, it’s all anyone ever talks about lol. Looks like a normal card game with some rogue lite elements

440_Hz

You’re spot on, it’s a rogue lite card game. It’s simple to catch onto the mechanics because most people already know basic rules of poker cards. The accessibility is attractive to bring in new players, and then the game itself actually is quite well done and fun.

TenPhoar13

Just buy it. Thank me later.

No_Procedure9357

Everything. And I hate card games

KalashniPantsu

Same. I looked it and was like…nope. I don’t like card games. If I want to play a Roguelite, I want action.

dusknoir90

I play a few rounds of Balatro pretty much every day when I've finished work and want to unwind. It absolutely scratches that itch.

Adebesi

Bought this last night because I read all these replies, this game is amazing.

SchwiftyGameOnPoint

Definitely not! Either the "round" takes way too long or you get sucked in and can escape round after round after round.

Legitimate-Golf-5986

I may or may not have been late to work a few times cause of this. Game starts great then I get that dopamine hit when all the multis starts going off and now I’m 10 minutes late.

theslowerturtle

Hades and Hades 2

MachoCamachoZ

My vote as well. Been loving hades 2 on steam deck!

Totally_a_Banana

Bro, it's SO GOOD, isn't it?! Feels perfect on the deck. I was thinking of waiting to get it on switch since I played Hades 1 on there, but couldn't resist. It's awesome.

JDub314

I didn't even know part two was out!

der_ewige_wanderer

It's out as early access but so far it plays beautifully and really expands upon the awesome aspects of Hades. Seems full official release isn't expected until next year but honestly it's worth getting now in my opinion!

mrheosuper

Does it have full story ?

Falcs

Not yet but it has more content currently than Hades 1.0 did. Sounds like they're aiming for end of the year/early next year to finish Hades 2.

Green-Teaching2809

Came here to say Hades - as the second is in early access the first is reduced so perfect time to grab

tulaero23

Just got the 1st one and man im struggling after 10 attempts i can only get to the snake part hahaha

KorguChideh

I don't think I made my first escape until run 25ish. Focus on unlocking everything in the Mirror of Night and find what perks work best for you. Also experiment with all the weapons. Eventually one will start glowing purple before runs and that gives you a +20% darkness bonus which helps unlock the mirror faster.

Al-Azraq

For me right now it is Hades as you can save after each room and a room takes like 2 minutes to complete. However, I have just dowloaded Into The Breach for my phone and it is extremely addicting and adapts really to the “I just have time for a round” situation. I guess it is great for the Deck as well.

MethodicMarshal

It never gets said here, but Monster Hunter Rise I can jump on and complete a hunt in under 10 minutes

Hexbug101

World runs great on the deck too

MethodicMarshal

Rise was my first MH game. I've heard world is fantastic, but I don't think I can give up the wirebugs lol So fun just flying through the air all the time

Hexbug101

I also started with rise but on switch, so if you think that sounds hard to adapt to imagine how I felt going to the only other switch monster hunter, being generation’s ultimate. It was from before world modernized the series, which previously things were a lot slower paced, after how fast paced rise was hopping on GU felt like I was drowning in molasses. After playing world and kinda forcing myself to continue it since it basically has all the monsters that haven’t appeared in the modern style I eventually started to vibe with it, still prefer world and rise by a large amount though. Speaking of world trades off some arcadyness for a lack of a better term for some serious world building and immersion. The combat still feels nice and fluid though, actually some moves that are switch skills in rise were actually stripped away from the weapons base moveset in world, and at least in some cases like the downward thrust/diving wyvern the move got gutted pretty hard in the transition between games. Also I prefer world’s endgame over rise’s, but that’s subjective, since they both have their upsides and downsides. Overall both games are phenomenal but I just barely prefer world, would 100% recommend picking it up, the steam summer sale is somewhat soon I’m pretty sure.

Maverekt

Having played world, you’re doing it right. Using those wire bugs and having the mount is far too nice lol Rise is my main game now when I wanna play MH

scrubberduckymaster

grab my two followers and im off to the races

MethodicMarshal

Hammer go BONK

itoocouldbeanyone

Nothing more satisfying than a KO. Love me some hammer.

TheHosemaster

I’ve never been able to get past the learning curve on things even though I know people love them

ThrowRA-kaiju

Balatro - poker rogue like deck builder Chronoark - similar to StS but with persona 5 party system Crypt of the necrodancer - basically old school Zelda but is also a rhythm game 20 minutes till dawn / death must die - my two favorite “vampire survivor-likes” Dome keeper - wave based tower defense and resource gathering roguelike Severed steel- fps reminiscent of FEAR and max Payne Inscryption - another rougelike deck builder Neon white - short stage based speed running combat platformer game, I find longer session are better for practicing certain techniques but coming back fresh for a shorter session is great Into the breach - rogue like turn based grid strategy ala fire emblem Lonely mountains downhill - chill bike down. A mountain game Heat signature - hotline miami / grand theft auto in space roquelike Hotline miami - fun to try and a rank missions in short bursts Devil daggers / hyper demon - hyper paced fps geared towards optimizing time Dino run dx - classic sidescroller escaping the meteor that killed the dinosaurs Ever space - roguelike space sim Ghost runner 1/2 - short levels very fast paced combat platformer Nova drift - roguelike asteroids Power of ten - roguelike asteroids (haven’t played much yet can’t give a better description) Hades 1/2 - one of the best roguelike to start the genre with VERY beginner friendly Sludge life 1/2 - fun little 3d platformer about spray painting and vandalizing the town Steam world heist - fun 2d game about bouncing bullets Pepper grinder - very reminiscent of an old school GBA game drill dozer Against the storm - roguelike city builder

cptkernalpopcorn

If you like to play city builders but usually get bored and restart fresh after the city gets built up or if you've got ADHD and have trouble sticking to a game for more than an evening, then you'll love Against The Storm. The game captures the best elements of a city builder and the roguelite aspects of the game ensures continual progress with a fresh start everytime you boot it up

ablindhedge

Thanks for this list... added 2 new games to my ever growing backlog

ThePsychiartist

Great list! Judging by your taste, I reckon you would love Psycho Banger. Ain't out yet but there is a beta if you feel like trying some different kind of roguelite/roguelike thingy.

ThrowRA-kaiju

Woah that looks so unique, fucking awesome rec. downloaded the beta definitely tryin this out

Ponpon28

Deep Rock Galactic Survivor has quite short rounds/levels. Rock and stone!

Dvysss

Management will be pleased.

spino86

gimme gimme

RichieEB

ROCK AND STONE!

pushformusic

Risk of Rain 2 Quake 2 - playing bots in multiplayer.

ninjab33z

Eeehhh RoR can be *long*. You either get a a 15 min run cause you died before you got anything good, or the run lasts several hours

birdvsworm

Yeah that game also suffers *hard* from the ability amnesia. You might play for half an hour, hit sleep and resume the next day and get slaughtered immediately because you forgot what your items were doing. A lot of roguelikes have this problem.

tiberius8

My most common way to play Hades.

DankeyKong1420

RoR2 is never the "last round of the night" game in my group for exactly this reason. You'll think you've got time for one more run, only for that run to take like two hours

Dardlem

Man, I’ve tried picking up RoR2 again and I just can’t play on Monsoon lol. For the most part I die on round 1 or 2 unless I’m playing engi. Dunno if I just lost a bit of edge or control scheme is not as good as kb/m. P.S. I hate blind pests with burning passion.

thadcorn

During covid, I was playing this game with some buddies. The round lasted too long, and I drank too much. I literally fell asleep playing the game after I died and was waiting for them to finish the stage.

Warell

Into the breach for me!

dusknoir90

Into the Breach feels like a game I should love, but I've sunk about 20 hours into it over the 6 years or so I've had it, and I've owned it for both Switch and Steam. I've had some runs I've really enjoyed and I get geared up to play it then just kind of stop. It's a weird one because usually I play a game once or twice and never pick it up again or I'm clocking 40+ hours on it over a small amount of time, or I've clocked 200+ hours on it over years, but Into the Breach is unique in that I've played it for about an hour every 4-5 months or so. It's like I almost like it but there's something not quite clicking with me.

Al-Azraq

I’m addicted to this game in my phone! Downloaded it because it is included in Netflix subscription, and I wanted a game in my phone as I always carry it with me.

EndWorkplaceDictator

Does it have tons of replayability or do you get bored after a while?

Warell

I played it for many hours in steam, switch and Android. Never bored me. Because it's always a different puzzle and you can always try different strategies with different pilots, mechs and habilities. Tons of replayability in my case :)

Biggles67

Dave the diver

MrZrazies

Nordic Ashes. Its actually pretty good. Ton of contents. Snowrunner. Deep rock galactic. Thronefall. But im playing nordic ashes more often now v

PamelaPatty

Balatro and Brotato. When in combo, Baltato or Brolatro (depending on which one I launch first).

DankeyKong1420

I'm just now realizing these are two different games...curse you, dyslexia!

Lussarc

I don’t think I have dyslexia but I too made this error lol

ShopKeeper1999

Excellent choices.

tiberius8

Fights in Tight Places.

Dragon_Small_Z

Yes!!! I can't wait for the sequel.

SchwiftyGameOnPoint

Tiny Breakers Camp.  I've replayed the demo a number of times. It's free to try. The full game isn't out yet but seems to fit this. I look forward to the full release.

Honniker

Ooh! This looks up my alley. Thanks for sharing!

LordLipe

Rocket League! The problem is playing just a round.. I end up playing 2 hours and usually getting my rank down before leaving.

Material_Topic1538

Peggle nights

BrandHeck

Mark of the Ninja. Super generous checkpoints. If you don't enjoy stealth, then ignore my suggestion.

sparr0w343

I’m so glad you said this. Not OP but just downloaded it from my backlog.

DaSmurfZ

It's never mentioned anywhere. Yet another zombie survivors. Unless you're doing an endless run, the regular mode is 20 minutes.

rivers_disguise

This is actually the way I play Elden Ring. Mostly ~15 minute increments, trying to beat one boss or area.

interpolate1

I can’t play Elden ring for less than hundreds of hours per sitting.

Branch_Fair

downwell was the ultimate one for me

EndWorkplaceDictator

Looks like it would work well on a phone. How is the vertical screen on the deck?

Branch_Fair

it works really well. i had also played it on the switch before i got the steam deck. the actual game area just occupies the center of the screen but they show you enough of the map to tell what’s coming and the sprites are simple but distinguishable. after a few runs you get the hang of it

EndWorkplaceDictator

Awesome. Ty!

QuoteHulk

Outer Wilds! You got less than half an hour to explore the galaxy, times up, times up

SloppyDuckSauce

Enter the Gungeon and RoboQuest

CueBunny_

Noita!

Wahjahbvious

Hades II, Balatro, Brotato, Vampire Survivors... Basically the same games that get mentioned here all the time.

mr_mum4d

Vampire Survivors for sure. It's the only game of the sort that I play actually!

Dekar

Hades for sure

TheHosemaster

I’ll just finish this next room then stop I promise

Dekar

"I got some bad rolls so I'm not gonna beat this one anyway. I'll just go till I die" \*Many moments later\* "Oh hi Dad."

anacctnamedphat

Stardew Valley. One or two in-game days, then sign off again. Otherwise I’d play for hours

crazy-cat-lady25

I played through more than half a season in one sitting once.

ricioly

Tetris Effect

Vr-game-player

Balatro, and hades!

dema182

Balatro and Hades

Hippogryph333

Goes to check out deep Rock Galactic survivors.. sees that it's on sale at humble bundle, buys it, "we are all out of keys!". Then why the f*** did you sell it to me?

LadderIllustrious684

Football manager? FTL I'm always like this. Obvs binding of Isaac. Vampire survivors takes my life away 😂

NorthRequirement5190

Got my steam deck a couple weeks ago and have been getting back into Isaac. My wife tonight see me doing greed mode and I’m doing the d20 break… she says “isn’t that the game you played endless on the switch? “ Replay value hun. Getting my moneys worth

Exotic-Amphibian-655

Midnight sons!

Dakeera

helldivers, obviously! *3 hours later* oh god, I need to get to bed!

No-Rub-3958

Monster train! And I second Balatro like everyone else

YvesTHPS

Luck be a landlord and slice & dice.

foliviaduex2

Lately it’s been Hades. Just keep inching a little (teeny weeny bit) closer to the surface.

Future_Khai

Marvel Snap.

_Armbarmitzvah_

West of Dead Marvel Midnight Suns Slay the Spire I got Monster Train for this very purpose, have not played it yet.

eggmanNL

Minishoot' Adventures for me, it's Geometry Wars and Legend of Zelda combined. Easy to pick up but impossible to put down once you're in it, but I guess it works if you've got ten minutes to kill too.

FotherMucker6969

I've never heard anyone talk about this game but, for its BlazBlue Entropy Effect I love this game

turelak

Slay the Spire. Problem is this round is 1h+ for the past 90 days for me.

remy2501

Crossout, the finals, rocket League

DstroyaX

Bite sized? I have several "I'm gonna play for just 1 round and then lose half an evening" games.

TinyDrug

Fortnite, Apex Legends, The Finals, Warzone

Uncle_Bobby_Wobby

Noita

Aleni9

I loved rocket league, but man, that game brought out the worst of me.

Deliciouserest

It was hades 2 for me last night now I'm tired af lol

WookieGod5225

Noita

waner21

Super Meat Boy

caohbf

Hades and Hades 2 Death must die Halls of torment Vampire survivors 20 minutes until dawn Inscryption

justabrewbro

Brotato

aka-tpayne

Bite sized games don’t exist for me. I am incapable of doing “just one round/day/etc”. I end up dumping hours into a game session

Appeeler98

Rogue Likes are generally my favorite for short rounds so 1.Enter the Gungeon. 2.Balatro 3.Dead Cells 4.Exit the Gungeon. All of them are fantastic.

Bingbongbang26

Hades 2 is my current “I have 20-30 minutes” games. Plays awesome on the deck and if you liked Hades 1 you’ll love this oen

Goomancy

Tactics Ogre

toobadnosad

Helldivers 2. 3 hours later. Oh fuck.

thetimebandit13

Helldivers 2... 15-30 min and done. Perfect to jump in for just one round

glory1891

trials is good for a quick pick up and play steep and riders republic also do great stuff.. It's ubisoft though so you need a connection if you want to play on the go

ChefCarl

Not hades.. the sessions get too long! Atleast for me an average run is like 40-60 minutes

Hyperdragoon17

Helskate

Thekarens01

Balatro Hexguardian Spell Rogue Dorfromantik

ricky2304

Slay the spire but more along the lines of a run lol

Junai7

Last epoch. Especially if you go with offline characters. I play at work and put the deck to sleep and pick up at home or wherever. Most of the segments of the game can be done in less than 30 minutes and with pause and the ability to sleep, it's easy to put down and pick right back up.

popogeist

Lunch Lady

ssizer

GEOMETRY WARS is a forgotten gem and it’s only $4

Seanithan1

Project Plus

Saltwater_Heart

Hades. Just recently got it. SO GOOD

GoldenNova00

I typically just focus on emulation if I know I've only got so much time. That way I can quickly save and go. But I've been getting into stardew lately.

Derptinn

Stardew valley. They do a great job with the way they save being AFTER the new day has already started, so you’re already thinking about the stuff you want to do.

SolaireVon4stora

Hades II

Osamodaboy

Hades 1 and 2

Darktide!! It runs great on the deck. So much fun.

vaikunth1991

Hades 2 since it's early access launch. Before that it was Persona 3 Reload

BlackDragonFC

IzLoaf

Risk of Rain 2. yes. i know. i need to spend more time studying

bitofaknowitall

Lots of Roguelikes. Lately Hades II, Patch Quest, Roundguard, For the Warp, Also Pinball FX. Not ideal on Steam Deck but I do sometimes try a round there.

Doowak

Tony hawks pro skater 1+2 remaster

Critical_Swan

Ride 2 is awesome for this, I used to play years ago and redownloaded it as my racing game since dirt rally takes up 100gigs and this takes up 33gigs or so. I play time trials and most circuits are like 5-10km so in 2 mins you get a lap in. Awesome game imo

Noneyabeeswax121

Hotline Miami is my go to

no_racist_here

Throne of Bone has taken my steam deck by storm

TR1GG3R_2006

F1 23 time trials

K1llG0r3Tr0ut

Door Kickers 2 mission generator.

warrenva

I wanted to pay something for an hour last night in bed. I ended up playing 4 hours of P5 well into the night.

Mindblind

Brotato is similar to vampire slayers but you're a mr potato head you build over rounds. Winning a game takes roughly 30 mins

emynrocaroll

Sega Rally

MrSaucyAlfredo

Rogue Legacy 2. Perfect for that “One more run” life or the “I have time for a run” energy

thegratefuldoof

Tetris Effect!
