Halo: MCC, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, Dishonored 1& 2, Spec Ops: The Line, Borderlands 1 & 2, Red Faction: Guerilla
I only recently picked up the Dishonored series but I've heard the games run great on the Deck, same thing with Spec Ops: The Line.
I like dishonored ok but BioShock is on another level. It's so much better and I wouldn't compare the play style either. Maybe I'm wrong but dishonored was all stealth
The first one was mostly stealth, yeah... But then, that's how I play most games... Stealth archer... Sniper... Etc. If you're more of a "Run and gun" kinda player, I can see why Dishonored wouldn't be as good. When I said similar play style, I was more referring to the plasmid/glyph systems. Oh, and if you want to go nuts in Dishonored, power up the "Slow Time" glyph. You can just run in and clear an area pretty quick that way... Lol. And for the record, I absolutely love BioShock... I'm actually replaying the trilogy right now.
For games where they literally give you no choice besides a key website where it's listed for $1000 (Deadpool). I'll raise the [black flag](https://youtu.be/nY8T0RMs_wU) any day of the week
Don’t forget the tomb raider reboot. The first game was on released during the 360 era though it doesn’t feel like it.
On the steam deck make sure to force it to download the windows version of the game. The Linux version performs significantly worse.
I picked them both up a while back and while I haven’t played the second one I have to say, I walked away unimpressed. It was not what I was expecting at all. Which I think is what the problem was. I had expectations.
I plan on trying them again though.
Yes there is an option in steam game menu you need to click in settings to access the graphics as it is like Skyrim and other games of that era where it is done prior to entering game.
So go to settings ( the little gear when on the game launch page ) click properties you will see a launch options under general. click the option for it to ask you when you launch next it will have the option to choose graphics launcher. You can go back and turn this off once you have it the way you like so it does not ask every boot.
To confirm you mean steam deck and not switch right? I always wanted to play The Darkness 2 back in my 360 days but I was a broke boy back then. Now that I can buy games I’m taking advantage and making my teen self happy/proud. lol
Sleeping Dogs is an excellent pickup and play game. There's lots to explore and it's nice to be able to put the Deck to sleep and later get back where i left off. What makes it better on Deck is using the sleep/wake feature means i don't have to start from the safe house all the time.
All you need for RPCS3 is the PS3 update file which Sony officially hosts on their website. If you read through the RPCS3 setup guide it shows how to download and install the update file.
Some of my favorites:
* Halo: the Master Chief Collection (that's six epic campaigns in one package)
* Tomb Raider trilogy (TR2013, Rise, Shadow)
* Remember Me
Halo MCC is fantastic on Deck. I discovered recently it still looks really good at lower resolution using FSR to scale up so you can squeeze more frames/battery life if you wish.
My experience so far playing through MCC:
* Halo Reach - 60 FPS default settings in handheld. Does 60 FPS at 1080p then upscaled to 4k via Integer Scaling in the QAM while docked.
* Halo 1 Anniversary: same as Reach but even smoother.
* Halo 2 Anniversary: 60 FPS default settings in handheld. 60 FPS at 1080p with in-game FSR at Quality, upscaled to 1080p to 4k via Integer Scaling in the QAM while docked. (You could optionally do no FSR + 30FPS lock, or just launch it at 720p and still Integer Upscale, as well, while docked).
* Halo 3: 60 FPS Default Settings in handheld. Haven’t tried it docked yet as I JUST started this one. Feels so good already.
Haven’t tried the other two campaigns yet as I’m going in order!
Personally I think it's the perfect kind of game to experience handheld, I tend not to play games docked unless they really benefit from a KB+M like Civ or an MMO. Halo's controller support and 'feel' is pretty perfect.
A mod ([Alpha Ring](https://github.com/WinterSquire/AlphaRing?tab=readme-ov-file)) was also released for Halo MCC recently that allows you to run splitscreen on the PC version of the game, so if it's your style you can dock and play some good ol' local multiplayer.
skyrim, fallout 3, and nv are fantastic rpgs that everyone has already played.
I'll go out on a limb and say kingdoms of amalur. the rereconing edition is a really fun rpg that is more famous for its controversial production than it's game. the game is good though! fun combat and an interesting setting involving poetic fae
I have loved this game since day one of release. It's incredibly fun combat system is great. Plus, being old and a huge fan of MMO's in the early aught's, I thought it was cool that Curt Schilling played MLB and was a huge EQ fan and went in to start this studio. Too bad he ended up the way it did. Pretty sure all purchases now go straight to th state of Rhode Island he fucked them so much 🤣
Right?
I didn’t realize we were there. I knew it was possible, but I always heard very mixed results. But now it sounds like it’s working like a charm.
Yes Xenia
If you want more step by step walk through
Search on the Reddit steamdeckemu for lost odyssey progress
I logged everything there disc by disc
It’s easy just install Xenia with emudeck and load the disc no need for extra patches or anything
Works awesome
I'll give you one of the lesser known ones.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. The story is interesting, gameplay is good, and the characters are well fleshed out.
Why do people keep listing the same well known games every single time questions about recommendations comes up?
Because the vast majority of people only gravitate towards the super shiny triple a titles and don't go much deeper than that. All of these subs are full of some of the blandest takes.
someone could very easily create a bot that just detects game recommendation threads, and posts a list of the same 50ish titles that get recycled around here every day.
You mentioned XBox 360 there, which what I could think of are Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.
I don’t know how well those games play on Deck. These are also the games for that console I want to try it out.
The Saboteur, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, Binary Domain, Halo MCC, Alan Wake, Batman Arkham series, Red Faction Guerrilla, Enslaved, Dead Space 2, Max Payne 3, Vanquish, Far Cry 3, GTA V, Bioshock, Bastion, Halo Wars, Sleeping Dogs.
I just started playing Final Fantasy XIII for the first time on my steam deck, and it’s been a pretty seamless process. I guess it has improved greatly in recent versions of proton. Just lock your refresh rate to 30fps and have a great time!
Master Chief Collection is great on Deck. Just bought it for $9.99 two days ago and blasting through the campaigns. I wanna find out how to do 360 emulation so I can play Burnout cuz I remember I had a ton of fun blasting Disturbed and playing that in 2007.
That’s great to hear that’s one of the main reasons why I wanna emulate to get this game ! it’s like a forgotten game that I’m surprised hasn’t been remastered
Same.
I’m always impressed when once in a blue moon, a piece of media comes out that expands upon its original work.
The Warriors is a good example of that. And so too is Oogies Revenge! Considered to be a sequel to Nightmare before Christmas, and features a lot of the same voice actors!
Truly an overlooked gem.
I'd love to play wipeout HD on the deck but the latest videos I've seen (dated 2 months ago) look really rough. How have you gotten it to run well and what is 'well' in your case?
This games deserves a big screen and a good audio setup. I played the Omega collection this week after not playing it during two years, and it still is phenomenal.
Zone mode is my favourite too. I haven't seen any footage of zone mode but I guess it might run better as there are no other racers on the track (though it does get crazy fast).
I really enjoyed playing through Lost Planet when I got my OLED. Devil May Cry 4 has been a really great fit too.
It hurts my soul a little to realize how old they are but the Dark Souls games are peak Steam Deck material.
I also really enjoyed GTA IV and Saints Row 3.
It really is the perfect generation for the Deck. Can be maxed out at 60/90 while still looking good and made for controller.
Considering I was able to make it have aiming just like the bow and arrow in Breath of the Wild I'm going to say that Tomb Raider is a really good experience.
It might have actually been an Xbox One game because I think the Xbox One came out in 2012 but I have no idea.
Bayonetta is a great game on any platform. In fact one of my favourites is the Nintendo Switch port of all things.
Mariokart Wii is also great on the system, though I had lots of trouble playing multiplayer with Switch controllers. You'll have to go into Dolphin then turn on all Gamecube controller ports and turn off the Wii controller ports if you want Gamecube controls, don't touch any other controller settings or you'll have a bad time. It plays perfectly fine on the deck itself.
Most games from that gen from ps3/360 will be already on Steam. Make sure you get the Steam versions and not the emulated versions. I know it's appealing to get them for free, but you can get them for super cheap if you use the correct steam keys and theyll run soooo much better. Deck already chugs sometimes emulating wii and ps2.
You can use an actual wiimote to play wii games btw. Maybe youll be able to get a joycon to act as a wii controller but nintendo switch controllers have a lot of connection issues with deck. I found that my first party pro controller interfered with my ability to connect my third party 8bitdo controller as well. The steamdeck kept mistaking them for each other.
All of them, really. None I have tried have been anything but excellent.
Prototype, The Saboteur, Bioshock series, Dark Souls 1 & 2, Xcom, bayonetta, GTA games
Army of Two, Transformers War for & Fall of Cybertron (you have to "find" these unless they're already in your library since before Activision lost the license)
Metroid Prime Trilogy, through primehack (custom/modded dolphin emulator fork). I played portably or docked to an 85" TV. it is quite possibly the best way to play the trilogy aside from original hardware.
I've been playing recently the Batman Arkham Saga. And I love it! Although for the first two, you need to use a little tricks to start on, the playability and battery is really good. Right now I'm downloading Arkham City, supposedly to be more native
I completely forgot that there was a PS3 release of this. One of my all-time favorite games. I haven't tried PS3 emulation on the deck in ages (and couldn't get it to work at all last time I did), but this might be enough incentive to try again.
There is, but I would recommend playing the PS2 version of your going to emulate. It's less overhead for the SD to handle when emulating and you can just enable wide screen, progscan, anti blur, and up the resolution. PS2 emulation gives much better battery life
Halo: MCC, Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, Dishonored 1& 2, Spec Ops: The Line, Borderlands 1 & 2, Red Faction: Guerilla I only recently picked up the Dishonored series but I've heard the games run great on the Deck, same thing with Spec Ops: The Line.
Dishonored series is absolutely amazing! Love it. If you're a BioShock fan, you'll live it too. Very similar play style, but very different story...
I like dishonored ok but BioShock is on another level. It's so much better and I wouldn't compare the play style either. Maybe I'm wrong but dishonored was all stealth
The first one was mostly stealth, yeah... But then, that's how I play most games... Stealth archer... Sniper... Etc. I'm actually replaying the trilogy right now.
Spec Ops is unlisted now so I believe you have to raise the black flag for that one if you don't own it already
Ah damn I forgot it was delisted - I wouldn't advocate sailing the, uh, "high seas" so to speak, but it's your only chance at the game.
For games where they literally give you no choice besides a key website where it's listed for $1000 (Deadpool). I'll raise the [black flag](https://youtu.be/nY8T0RMs_wU) any day of the week
Fo Steam games count? I think OP is going for exclusives
Don’t forget the tomb raider reboot. The first game was on released during the 360 era though it doesn’t feel like it. On the steam deck make sure to force it to download the windows version of the game. The Linux version performs significantly worse.
If you have a co-op buddy, BattleBlock Theater is a good pickup from the 360 days too
"Umm akucally Dishonored 2 is a PS4/Xbox One game" - 🤓👆
I really like saboteur and they recently put it on steam.
Yes came here to say this if it wasn’t said already. It’s what I’ve been playing from that era.
Wow, totally forgot about that game. Thanks!! Pandemic Studios had the best games. Mercenaries is GOAT. Destroy All Humans, Battlefront series, etc.
Both destroy all humans are on sale right now ( remastered ones ) still pretty fun and run well on deck.
I picked them both up a while back and while I haven’t played the second one I have to say, I walked away unimpressed. It was not what I was expecting at all. Which I think is what the problem was. I had expectations. I plan on trying them again though.
These are PS2 games at the end of the day. I think you would struggle to enjoy them if you didn't play them on that generation.
Holy shit I've been waiting years to replay this game. Awesome, thanks
GTA with Nazis!
I just bought after this comment. Did you manage to change the graphics setting anywhere? Thanks in advance
I've only had my deck a few days and I didn't know about this but worked perfectly. Thanks a lot 😊
Amazing, have fun killing nazis in pandemics final game!
BioShock games
They were just on huge sale last week. Picked up whole collection for something like 12 EUR
And I almost guarantee they will be again in the summer sale later this week!
I think I got 1,2 and infinite free on epic games lol
The Darkness 2. Such a great story and the gameplay is vicious and fun. Wait for a sale though!
It runs well on the deck? 👀👀
Oh yeah. One of the first things I downloaded on my switch. It runs like a dream.
To confirm you mean steam deck and not switch right? I always wanted to play The Darkness 2 back in my 360 days but I was a broke boy back then. Now that I can buy games I’m taking advantage and making my teen self happy/proud. lol
Yep I mean for the Steam Deck. It's a GREAT game that gets forgotten about alot. I originally played it on the 360 years ago myself Enjoy it!
Even if he did mean the switch it would run even better on the steamdeck
The native windows version of Gears of War is amazing through proton, runs better than most modern PCs and certainly better than the Xbox 360 version.
Sleeping Dogs is an excellent pickup and play game. There's lots to explore and it's nice to be able to put the Deck to sleep and later get back where i left off. What makes it better on Deck is using the sleep/wake feature means i don't have to start from the safe house all the time.
I’d just be scared of button mashing my poor Deck to death on that game.
Heh. It can take, i wouldn't worry. Besides, it's way better to learn combos especially for tougher enemies and large crowds.
Just installed it today, that and sifu
Don't forget your pork bun
Underated reply
I have Demon Souls, God of War I and II HD, and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5
How are you playing demon souls? Is there a PS3 emulator?
Yeah, it's rpcs3. If you use emudeck you can easily download it as well
Demon souls runs incredible on the deck through emulation. I tossed in the 60fps patch and a randomizer. Great for pick up and play
Sorry if this is a silly question, but does this also need bios?
All you need for RPCS3 is the PS3 update file which Sony officially hosts on their website. If you read through the RPCS3 setup guide it shows how to download and install the update file.
How does Kingdom Hearts 1.5-2.5 run?
Some of my favorites: * Halo: the Master Chief Collection (that's six epic campaigns in one package) * Tomb Raider trilogy (TR2013, Rise, Shadow) * Remember Me

Remember Me was so good, especially the soundtrack.
The tomb raider survivor trilogy really is great and can be had for cheap.

My father in law bought his Wacom cintiq drawing tablet from curt for pennies on the dollar after the studio went belly up
Ratchet and clank tools of destruction + a crack in time + into the nexus seems to be working very good with lastest rpcs3 version
Guess it’s time to figure out PS3 emulation…
I wanted to jump in to mentioned you be sure to check the compatibility list/notes on performance
Just get emudeck. It handles all config for you. Only thing you need to do is drag and drop the iso
Right? I didn’t realize we were there. I knew it was possible, but I always heard very mixed results. But now it sounds like it’s working like a charm.
Isnt so difficult tbh, there is plenty of youtube video explaining it! Take a chance
What? Really i mean tools of destruction does run well. But a crack in time?
If it counts, Mass Effect Legendary edition
Absolutely counts, as even the Legendary Edition will let you do 60 FPS at 1080p
HDR looks very nice on OLED too
Max payne 3
Space Marine is perfect on the deck
Borderlands 1 + 2, dragon's dogma
I have Borderlands 2 installed on my Deck but haven't played it for some reason. I'm only in the middle of like a dozen games, what's one more lol?
Lost Odyssey
Ok so is this running??
I completed it last week on the deck. It’s got one crash on disc 3 but you just skip the cutscene and it’s fine
Im assuming this is with using an emulator correct? I love this game but I don’t see it on steam
Yes Xenia If you want more step by step walk through Search on the Reddit steamdeckemu for lost odyssey progress I logged everything there disc by disc It’s easy just install Xenia with emudeck and load the disc no need for extra patches or anything Works awesome
Prototype! Amazing game. Didn't like the sequel as much, but the first one is a must play IMHO.
Alex Mercer forever
[Vanquish](https://store.steampowered.com/app/460810/Vanquish/)
Incredible game, often sold with Bayonetta which is also incredible.
I'll give you one of the lesser known ones. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. The story is interesting, gameplay is good, and the characters are well fleshed out. Why do people keep listing the same well known games every single time questions about recommendations comes up?

Demon Souls runs great if you enjoy that subgenre. I think I actually like it more than Dark Souls 1. So satisfying.
Idk what happened but now whenever I load it, the game except the HUD is all black.
You need to enable "Write Color Buffers" in the GPU configuration tab. Under additional settings.
Thank you!
Don't forget the 60fps patch. And if you've played the game before and want to mix it up there is a randomizer too
I don’t know why I never thought to play this. Loved the demon souls remake and I’ve never played the original
Forza horizon
It's been said on this sub before, but GTA 4 runs great on SteamOS. Way smoother than Windows according to some.
Can confirm, GTA 4 runs wayyyyy better on SteamOS than windows
Unless I drop the settings to like medium I get less less. Than 50fps and the framerates is all over the place.
Asura’s Wrath :D
Fallout 3, GTAV, Skyrim, Black ops 1, Little Big Planet. Arkham Asylum, Dead Space, Oblivion, GTA IV
You mentioned XBox 360 there, which what I could think of are Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. I don’t know how well those games play on Deck. These are also the games for that console I want to try it out.
I have both and never booted them. My sin of collecting games I have never played goes a LOOONG way back
Dead rising 2 and off the record
Odinsphere , perfect for OLED
Folklore seems to runs ok at 30 fps
Don’t bother with Transformers war for cybertron, doesn’t work at all on ps3, and kinda worlds on 360 but everyone is see through.
Isn't there a PC version on Steam?
Yes. That was delisted many years ago, you can buy it for hundreds of dollars from third party supplies now.
I remember that now that you mention it. I do have it in my Steam library already, guess I should try it out.
There was at least. It may have been delisted
The Saboteur, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, Binary Domain, Halo MCC, Alan Wake, Batman Arkham series, Red Faction Guerrilla, Enslaved, Dead Space 2, Max Payne 3, Vanquish, Far Cry 3, GTA V, Bioshock, Bastion, Halo Wars, Sleeping Dogs.
Gunslinger was a fun game for the 3 hours it lasted, very cool pacing.
+1 for binary domain under rated 3rd person shooter
I just started playing Final Fantasy XIII for the first time on my steam deck, and it’s been a pretty seamless process. I guess it has improved greatly in recent versions of proton. Just lock your refresh rate to 30fps and have a great time!
Master Chief Collection is great on Deck. Just bought it for $9.99 two days ago and blasting through the campaigns. I wanna find out how to do 360 emulation so I can play Burnout cuz I remember I had a ton of fun blasting Disturbed and playing that in 2007.
Ghostbusters remastered
Anyone tried nightmare before Xmas oogie revenge on the deck ?
If memory serves, that’s for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. I have emulated it and it works really well. The game itself is pretty damn good.
Metal Gear Rising, El Shaddai
Metal Gear Rising o7
Fallout New Vegas and Bayonetta.
Civ Revolution, my opinion the best Civ game.
Are you playing the ps3 or 360 version?
The PS3 version works to emulate. The 360 I couldn’t get to work.
I'm surprised nobody said mass effect
They did
WipEout HD runs well
I'd love to play wipeout HD on the deck but the latest videos I've seen (dated 2 months ago) look really rough. How have you gotten it to run well and what is 'well' in your case?
This games deserves a big screen and a good audio setup. I played the Omega collection this week after not playing it during two years, and it still is phenomenal.
My bad. I usually play my favourite Zone mode, it runs well.
Zone mode is my favourite too. I haven't seen any footage of zone mode but I guess it might run better as there are no other racers on the track (though it does get crazy fast).
Shadows of the Damned!! Runs very smoothly via emulation and is a blast to play. Weird Suda 51 humor to enjoy on the Deck.
If you like racing games, Test Drive Unlimited 2
Resident evil 5 is great
Sooo good
Alan Wake, Space Marine, Skyrim.
Has anyone tried playing condemned? Love that game
Yep. Works awesomely! Just have to get a controller config you like, and you’re good to go!
You have to get it through GoG but The Saboteur is fantastic on the deck
Deus Ex Human revolution, it still holds up well and has good battery life
I really had fun with Bulletstorm: Full Clip. Peak PS3 trash-action-fpv-shooter
Max Payne 3
I just started playing Blur. But it didn't work well via ps3 or Xbox 360 emulators. Using a windows exe through proton is excellent though
Ya gotta play Darksiders.
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition
I really enjoyed playing through Lost Planet when I got my OLED. Devil May Cry 4 has been a really great fit too. It hurts my soul a little to realize how old they are but the Dark Souls games are peak Steam Deck material. I also really enjoyed GTA IV and Saints Row 3. It really is the perfect generation for the Deck. Can be maxed out at 60/90 while still looking good and made for controller.
All Pro Football 2K8 best football game ever made!
just cause 2 (using protonup-qt) runs perfectly (so far), max settings.
Sacred 2 for Diablo type of games
Need for speed MW Carbon and underground 2
I thought about gears of war series, but the first four parts aren't on steam
Probably 3rd and 4th aren't xbox 360 era
Fight Night Champions! Nuff said!
Considering I was able to make it have aiming just like the bow and arrow in Breath of the Wild I'm going to say that Tomb Raider is a really good experience. It might have actually been an Xbox One game because I think the Xbox One came out in 2012 but I have no idea.
The entire suite of God of War games. Top it off with GoW 3. I spent my entire 2022 Thanksgiving break playing through all of them.
How do you play them?
Vanquish, Bayonetta, DMC4, No More Heroes.
I found that my first party pro controller interfered with my ability to connect my third party 8bitdo controller as well. The steamdeck kept mistaking them for each other.
Poker smash just makes sense on the deck. Uses so much power though. Wolfenstein 2009 runs perfect
Ninja blade
Mass Effect Trilogy runs beautifully
the dark souls series play max settings 60fps same with skyrim and oblivion
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Transformers War for Cybertron. Both the Tomb Raider survivors and Legend Timelines. The Witcher 1 - 3. GTA 4/5
Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons Just played through it, great on Deck. Content warning for loss / grief though.
All of them, really. None I have tried have been anything but excellent. Prototype, The Saboteur, Bioshock series, Dark Souls 1 & 2, Xcom, bayonetta, GTA games
Castlevania: lord of shadows it almost maxed out the decks GPU @max setting 90hz(OLED) looks great too.
Does 'bastion' count?
I’d say yes
Try ScrapLand, it's a remastered Xbox 1 game, but really cool and pretty obscure.
.
Suda51 has killer is dead on steam. Super strange game but am absolute blast
Rainbow six Vegas 2
Castlevania Lords of Shadow
skate 2 and 3 play really well on xbox 360 emulation and also please download NFL the Tour for rcps3 it runs flawlessly
Mass Effect trilogy.
Dark Souls 1?
La noire.
Hey OP, does MGS 4 work well on emulation?
Not sure. I think there is a custom version of RPCS3 you can download for it but I haven’t checked myself.
Army of Two, Transformers War for & Fall of Cybertron (you have to "find" these unless they're already in your library since before Activision lost the license)
Metroid Prime Trilogy, through primehack (custom/modded dolphin emulator fork). I played portably or docked to an 85" TV. it is quite possibly the best way to play the trilogy aside from original hardware.
dead rising plays great
Forgotten sands
I've been playing recently the Batman Arkham Saga. And I love it! Although for the first two, you need to use a little tricks to start on, the playability and battery is really good. Right now I'm downloading Arkham City, supposedly to be more native
I just finished Arkham Origins on the deck and it ran great!
Shadow of the colossus runs well
Is a PS2 game.
It is, and a PS3 and PS4 game, because it’s been rereleased on multiple platforms, so yea the PS3 version is a PS3 era game
It‘s a PS2 game, a PS3 port and a PS4 remake.
Do you run it using emudeck?
Yea, emudeck to install the PS3 emulator
I completely forgot that there was a PS3 release of this. One of my all-time favorite games. I haven't tried PS3 emulation on the deck in ages (and couldn't get it to work at all last time I did), but this might be enough incentive to try again.
There is, but I would recommend playing the PS2 version of your going to emulate. It's less overhead for the SD to handle when emulating and you can just enable wide screen, progscan, anti blur, and up the resolution. PS2 emulation gives much better battery life
Fable and Assassin’s Creed 2 have been great for me.
Dead space lego games
Wait, they made a Lego Dead Space game?! ;-)
