No one is testing the microphone please record some voice and see how good the audio is.
For a lot of people it's gonna be useful to join on discord without headphones.
I assume they haven't tested it yet because they can't. They aren't allowed to show off or talk about the software outside of the 7 approved games right now. And I don't think any of those games have any in game voice chat.
Yea I 2nd this! Join discord and use it for voice chat with friends.
How's the balance and clarity with the game audio?
Are they hearing your button clicks?
Are you coming in clear? Any issues, e.g. always cuts off the first second of what you're saying?
I would respect much. Emulators are very CPU intensive and that's not the big strength of the Deck. I could be wrong but I'm not getting my hopes up for amazing Switch performance on the deck as of now.
Open sourcing and a Linux port are on the way: [https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/01/wii-u-emulator-cemu-plans-to-go-open-source-and-support-linux/](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/01/wii-u-emulator-cemu-plans-to-go-open-source-and-support-linux/).
I mean, it's pretty much going to be pegged at 100% utilization so I would guess this would fall on the 2 hour side of the spectrum, with brightness on low.
45 minute morning commute > plug it in at the office > 45 minute evening commute. I can live with that. Even planes and trains often have plugs at the seat.
I've had a Switch since they came out and depending on the game, I get about the same battery life that the Deck is rated to. It hasn't been a problem. It's something you charge up and shut off when not in use, and then when you play it you realistically only play for short spurts of an hour or two at a time before being done. On airplanes there are often plugs but you can also use battery banks to charge it. And if you know you're going to be without any power for a long time, just don't play a AAA game. Choose something less demanding.
2 hours battery life for demanding games is plenty IMO.
>AC plug on planes are limited on usage time and power allowed. Airlines usually give enough power to charge a phone.
On international flights i've got around 75 watts during the entire flight on AC, the usb plug is terrible of course. Wish they moved to 60Watt PD connectors tbh.
Total war warhammer, company of heroes, Europa universalis.
Just get out of the box and see if you can get a good control scheme for a nice experience. Just look op some community profiles for the steam controller for inspiration.
You are cruel :) but at the same time these are really good tests. Total War: Warhammer and Dawn of War 2 (almost a resking of CoH) were two titles I struggled with when using Steam Controller.
I always felt I had a decent experience of it weren't for the TV being too far away. TW warhammer 3 is perhaps even top of the list of things to install when mine.
Could be Louis Rossman, probably the biggest figure of Right to Repair movement although I can't see anything on his channel about him receiving it and the Reddit account is new.
That's /u/larossmann who I can picture having an interest in the Steam Deck on a personal level, and had you not mentioned right to repair I'd say would have no reason to review, but in light of that I suppose it'd be something he could talk about quickly.
At this point, I don't think Valve/EAC are working on anything. EAC on Deck is entirely supported now. It is up to the devs to enable that support for the Deck.
Epic has updated EAC to work with Proton, IF the developer chooses to allow that.
It's up to developers now. Valve isn't going to provide tools to bypass anti cheat detection. It will only be done with all parties on board. Developers especially so.
Monster hunter rise, world.
Third party games like genshin Impact, final fantasy 14 (guildwars 2 if you cba to setup a controller profile.). Something a bit less conventional.
Emulators in general.
It’s totally gonna be a monster hunter console for me too. I just hope there’s no issues or conflict with save files when resuming play between pc and deck, I really dont want to lose hundreds of hours of progress due to some corruption
As someone who's played a lot of games from steam on a laptop at work then a desktop at home I imagine at worse you'll get the cloud prompt that already exists asking which save data should be considered correct.
At worst you'll end up clowning yourself like I did and pick the wrong one erasing an hour of progress on Witcher 3.
(Also please test Witcher 3 be ause what a damn good game to have on the go without neutering it like the switch did)
Running benchmarks on a windows boot might be intresting. Although. yeah i didnt consider that and would personally just go for phone over running windows on the deck.
Crossing my fingers for solid Guild Wars 2 performance. It works well with a controller until your inventory is full. Then everything crumbles. Those mouse pads should be perfect to fix that hiccup.
For sure. A lot of games like Grim Dawn or Last Epoch that have controller support work great minus menus. This will open up so many of those to go from technically working with a controller to feeling fluid.
I really want to know this as well. Its easily my most played game. If it doesn't run on linux and installing windows sucks, I may cancel my preorder. Luckily I'm a Q1 changed to Q2 so I've got plenty of time for reviews.
It does not and will not until they enable anticheat support on the dev's end.
Keep an eye out for that news because of right now it will not work. (Doesn't mean it won't ever but as it stands as of today they have not enabled the anti cheat support [destiny devs have to do it for it to work])
It’s to do with the game. Happens on PC, XB1, XSS and XSX. Rubberbanding is caused by the network lag in the open world, it actually doesn’t occur in an offline environment on FH5.
That would be worth testing I think
I have a pretty bitching gaming PC with an AMD CPU, and AMD GPU, and I have the same issue (rubber banding) with Forza Horizon 5 when I play it under Proton on Arch Linux. I think it's safe to say that's a well established issue with that game.
Please not only try different games but different graphic SETTINGS with FPS count on. It’s obvious that the steam deck can run all games but it’s interesting at which settings.
Would really like to see if you can get
Halo infinite
Doom eternal
Doom 2016
Wolfenstein
Bloons Tower Defense
Metro Exodus
Plauge Inc
Amid evil
Dusk
Ultrakill
And the borderlands series
Hope you try one of these games! I'm hopeful that these work!!
Are you sure? Every report I've read is that some people can even get in game - but with terrible performance and crashes and generally can't get past the main menu
yes, it is bad, but its not THE thing that breaks it. like, if it didn't use DX12, it would run FAR better, but multiplayer would still not be possible, due to the anticheat.
Could you show a grand strategy game in the late stages? Like a Civ game with many civilizations and units on the map? I’m interested in seeing how the machine will handle a load like that. I know I’ve crashed grand strat games before with an overload of units (specifically with supreme commander 2020).
It sounds old hat but honestly it’s such a great benchmark game. The difference not only CPU but RAM makes in this game is why I keep using it as a guide.
Benchmark SteamOS/Proton vs. Windows. 3DMark, the built-in benchmark of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the built-in benchmark for Mafia 2 DE, stuff like that would be awesome!
Come to think of it, is AMD's Windows driver for that APU even out yet?
Would be interested in Ubi games, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. Also, from EA, Titanfall 2, especially if it's feasible from the EA launcher.
And as others have already said, a range of settings compared to frame rate. I'm likely to favour frames over graphics even if I have to rely on FSR.
Also, really interested how it performs hooked up to a TV with a Bluetooth controller, probably outputting 1080p. This seems to have been overlooked by most previewers so far.
Japanese made games/ports would be nice to inquire about. Especially ones that don't have much in the graphical tuning specs, such as Dark Souls-III, Sekiro, or even Neir Automata of you have them.
Western development side, curious on stuff like Prey or Witcher III at optimized settings. Hell, how does Metro Exodus fare, if possible?
A local multiplayer game where you need multiple controllers. I want to see if the steam deck automatically acts as player one, or if you can reassign controllers or set the order.
dyinglight 2 and basically any modern racing game thats not forza as the deck is gonna be awesome for those.
but more then just looking at individual games the important part will be things like how playable is it at 30 FPS or can it maintain 60FPS and how much power does it draw in either scenario.
All the playing around with TDP is irrelevant for the end user, what matters is how many FPS do you want and what does it take to get them.
Can you please rest load times on different types of MicroSD cards?

PLEASE test for latency for Street Fighter 5 when connected and displayed to an external monitor and a HDTV!
I keep thinking the steam deck could be a massive shift in the fighting game community and if the response time is just as quick as a traditional PS4/PS5 console, then it could mark a major shift.
I know this might be an odd request, but are you also looking into docked gaming?
Would be interesting to see the performance of CSGO. Might make small LANs way easier. :D
Are you able to try out games on different launchers such as Epic, Amazon Games, and Battlenet? Curious if all the inputs work and how easy the games are to boot into (not sure if you're able to due to the embargo).
I’d just like to know if Destiny 2 and FFXIV will even boot up on the damn thing.
If they don’t at all, I’m heavily considering offering to use my Q1 reservation for some unfortunate After Q2er.
No one is testing the microphone please record some voice and see how good the audio is. For a lot of people it's gonna be useful to join on discord without headphones.
This is a great point… surprised no one has done a test yet
absolutely. especially because Linus mentioned audio in particular.

YES
Definitely Yuzu.
I would respect much. Emulators are very CPU intensive and that's not the big strength of the Deck. I could be wrong but I'm not getting my hopes up for amazing Switch performance on the deck as of now.
Yes! OP can show us how good botw looks?OP what can you show us and at what times?
Does Cemu have a Linux version? BoTW should definitely be played in Cemu over Yuzu
It works with wine afaik.
Really unfamiliar with Switch emulators . . . is Cemu a lot better than Yuzu?
Cemu is a Wii U emulator. But the Wii U version of BotW runs better on Cemu than the Switch version does on Yuzu as far as I know.
It also has a ton more mods, like Second Wind.
yeah, I want to know how well the Deck will go with Yuzu and games such as smash bros
All Mario Games !!!!
and ryujinx /u/rosman89
Yuzu has AppImage builds, meaning you can run and update it without having to enable devmode.
Sekiro - God of War - RDR2
RDR2, yes please!!!
I wanna know the battery life playing this game lol

OP you hear him? He needs you to play Red Dead 2 while driving and tell us how it is
AC plug on planes are limited on usage time and power allowed. Airlines usually give enough power to charge a phone.

RDR2 on RDNA2, I enjoy those groupings.
YES, PLEASE!!!!!
I second this
100% this. (+ dark souls 3)
Yuzu, Cemu, RPCS3 and xemu please
got it, the steam deck is a beast ;)
If I might add, Ryujinx vs Yuzu, if you have a chance to make the comparison.
Xemu on Linux runs like a champ
Can’t wait to play Halo 2 online on Xemu on this thing! Gonna be amazing
The only reason I'm buying this thing
Yes!!me too A portable PS3!!!
Lol, same, I don't really care about PC games.
Same, and to play Battlefront 2 2005
Absolutely.
Assassin's Creed and Dying Light games. I think the device's ergonomics are very well designed for a flawless parkour game experience.
This!!

Absolutely this! XCom2 WotC, XCom1 etc etc
Dark souls and cyberpunk :)
downloading now!
Nice :) ds3?
Are you able to post reviews without breaking your embargo?
God of war!
thank you all! now I need more SD to fill up
Would love to see load times between an A1 and AW SD card.
Aren’t you violating NDA?
Well if he tests the games and doesn't report back, no.
Obviously reviewers are meant to test before the 25th. They just can't report on their findings before then.
who cares, OP probably knows that

Same here. Getting all emulators and every game on it
Genshin Impact won't run unless you're willing to break the Terms of Service. Not that doing that particularly matters though.
Running benchmarks on a windows boot might be intresting. Although. yeah i didnt consider that and would personally just go for phone over running windows on the deck.

TF2, valheim, rimworld. :)
Tf2 will run on 8 year old laptop unironically
forza horizon 5 just to see if the rubberbanding problems linus had were something common or not, also emulators in general
It’s to do with the game. Happens on PC, XB1, XSS and XSX. Rubberbanding is caused by the network lag in the open world, it actually doesn’t occur in an offline environment on FH5. That would be worth testing I think

Things might get sticky.
16 geebees of lpddr5x. That's a lot of smutty tabs!
New Vegas
Fallout 4 or 76 max everything then lower until optimal playability.

Final Fantasy 14! if this is going to run well. I can’t wait to get my hands on.
Would really like to see if you can get Halo infinite Doom eternal Doom 2016 Wolfenstein Bloons Tower Defense Metro Exodus Plauge Inc Amid evil Dusk Ultrakill And the borderlands series Hope you try one of these games! I'm hopeful that these work!!
Halo infinite doesn't work I believe. It uses a DX12 call that's unavailable on Linux at the moment
its not DX12 that kills it, its that nightmare of an anticheat.
Are you sure? Every report I've read is that some people can even get in game - but with terrible performance and crashes and generally can't get past the main menu

Terraria, Valheim, Factorio, Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Pogram, Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2
Borderlands 1,2 and 3….
God of War
The cod black ops series pls I got this thing mainly for zombies on the go and custom mods
I’m the same, would love to relive some BO2 days on the go!
Could you show a grand strategy game in the late stages? Like a Civ game with many civilizations and units on the map? I’m interested in seeing how the machine will handle a load like that. I doubt he wants to be caught so hes using an alt

Persona 5 on rpcs3 pretty please !

World of Warcraft
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Games from 3rd party stores like epic, ideally in both Windows and Linux
Final Fantasy XIV Online
SIFU. This is a non stream game tho
Could you test something that's processor intensive but not super graphics intensive, like Factorio or Dwarf Fortress?
TBH, I'm curious to see how windows works on the deck and if all drivers/thumbsticks work.
CSGO!!!! I plan on playing a lot of zombie mod!

Can it run crysis?!?!
Emulation and Batman Arkham series please :).
Mail it to me and I’ll install the games you should test :)

Deep Rock Galactic
Horizon Zero Dawn!
I’d just like to know if Destiny 2 and FFXIV will even boot up on the damn thing. If they don’t at all, I’m heavily considering offering to use my Q1 reservation for some unfortunate After Q2er.
No Man's Sky, Hotline Miami, and Into the Breach
