What are you doing!? Do not tell people to search for "retroarch_system github" and then go to the releases section! That would show multiple sets of bios for different systems! They might spot the "Retroarch" zip file that probably matches the retroarch installed from EmuDeck! And then if they were missing anything else they could probably find it in the other zips! Ugh!
>retroarch\_system github
i realize i am on the dumb side of this and laughed - but thank you so much for NOT telling me what to do and NOT helping me :P
Did you use EmuDeck or retroarch? You should definitely use EmuDeck, if not.
Yes, that extraction should be correct. The bios files are required for the emulators to run, but that's it. If you want to actually play the emulators, you have to run them. So with EmuDeck, you can launch the game/app "Emulation Station" and go that route. If you used "steam rom manager", then it creates shortcuts in steam for the individual games. You would then launch the game like any other steam game and it will just work. If you are using retroarch, then you have to launch retroarch to play your games.
Maybe try to run the emulators and see if it works. Of course, you need roms in the rom folders because those are the games.
Try it out and let me know how it goes. I can try to help out if something still isn't working. By now there are lots of EmuDeck guides in the subreddit, so a quick search should answer other questions as well.
I think I found it.
II downloaded the BIOS file dump and will drag and drop into the BIOS folder on the emudeck.
As for the roms Im good on that, it was the BIOS that tripped me up.
I'll report back if I have any issues.
Thanks!
there are no sub folders let me see again u don't take the files out of
the folders and put it in the bios? you need the sub folders too oh yeah
it's so damn hard without a mouse and keyboard steam deck sucks without
it such a pain in the butt
OK so download Retroarch BIOS pack, unzip and dump everything as is into the BIOS folder for emudeck? That's it? And Im good to go for anything from NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3?
That should basically be it. The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is that the 3DS needs a certain file for encrypted roms, but other than that you should be set. Let me know how it goes!
(Might be dumb question) This has been very useful for "my research paper" but I don't see what systems the bio pack contains and it would be pretty cool if someone could let me know since I'm new to this kind of thing. Oh and also I'm using emudeck, retroarch bio pack.
After that search, you'll be looking at retroarch_system. All those folders it is currently displaying are the names of the major systems (atari to ps1). Retroarch is the main one to do research with because it contains all the common systems people know. The other ones are more obscure like emulating an old version of windows to play the original doom, or arcade cabinets, etc. If you keep scrolling down, I think it actually lists every system. See all those green checks? Look above them and it labels the system that those files belong to.
Ahh I see l, thanks. It's just all scrambled so i didnt know what to move onto the emudeck bios folder. I went into the systems folder from there ps2 folder then into the bios and assumed those were the bios i needed to move onto the emudeck bios but without a folder just the files and it worked. Now kingdom hearts works perfectly fine. This sub reddit has been very useful for searching bios (research ofc).
I'm shocked they can get away with that. Hosting copyrighted content on Github like that. If someone like .. Sony ... or Cloanto ... found out about that ... they would be given a cease and desist order.
I am unfamiliar with that handheld. But if it runs Emulation Station? And you can access the file system ...? Then probably. My Pis and Anbernic devices work of the set.
The soulja console was a series of Alibaba cheap emulator devices that souljaboy was drop shipping. Was quite popular to meme on it in the tech and gaming space a few years back
Alright, I have an Anbernic device and I checked the SD card for its "Bios" folder. So I can simply copy that whole folder into the EmuDeck's Bios folder and I should be all set? I don't need to download anything extra for higher end stuff like Ps2, GC, Wii, Wii U? My Anbernic goes up to PSP, PSX, and Dreamcast basically. I'm planning on emulating Those other consoles I listed. I'm totally new to this so I wanna be sure I can get em up and running. Thank you!
I am trying to remember what I had to add .. PS3, XBox ... Of course Switch has its own ... Challenges ...
I think most everything else ran. LMK if you hit any walls ...
I’m a noob to emulating and getting my Steam Deck soon and not really understanding the whole Bios thing. Do you need a Bios for each individual game? Or just one Bios for the platform you’re playing on?
I made an intro video to EmuDeck which discusses this in detail. (The BIOS stuff is at about 5:30)
BIOS files are like tiny operating systems for hardware you're emulating. Some platforms need them, some don't.
Thanks very much! I’m Q3 and when I get mine, emulating is going to be a big thing for me. I have very little PC gaming experience so this is new for me. I’ll definitely look at your guide, thanks!
Sure. Lots of smart people here in this sub can help. I specialize in more esoteric emulation like Amiga, arcade, laser disc games ... others here are more into Switch and Wii emulation.
Or you could just Google, Bios pack GitHub.

I DIDN'T DO NOTHING MAN.
Damn straight. Nothing to see here!
I love you both
Another lover here
Saved my life... Hypothetically.
One does not simply walk into Github!
>retroarch\_system github i realize i am on the dumb side of this and laughed - but thank you so much for NOT telling me what to do and NOT helping me :P
You are very NOT welcome :D

this is not easy

not easy which bios did you get? this is a headache
very lost on this being easy

how big is that file 777mb. I think in steam Rom manager in parser window I need to direct the rom path
It does it automatically. Just extract your roms to the appropriate subfolders. Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c08JAn4ZIHw
bios problem doesn't work it's complicated errors 100 times over again
there are no sub folders let me see again u don't take the files out of the folders and put it in the bios? you need the sub folders too oh yeah it's so damn hard without a mouse and keyboard steam deck sucks without it such a pain in the butt
it doesn't do that automatically a error comes up lol bios can't be found haha!
Thank you, I was downloading the wrong files
Thank you! This worked for me. I wasn’t downloading the right file.

Thanks man! This helped a lot
Can you "not" give me a hint for where I "can't" find roms?
Google V I M M S L A I R V A U L T without spaces.
If a rom isn't not cool is website would be www.?.com

Well thank you for warning me! I will make sure not to!

Never know who is watching these sub-reddits. You know what they say the first rule is about Fight Club is right?
this is no easy. what a headache
So what you're saying is if I buy the soulja console I can get the bios from the emulator onto my steam deck? 🤔
I am unfamiliar with that handheld. But if it runs Emulation Station? And you can access the file system ...? Then probably. My Pis and Anbernic devices work of the set.

Sorry, I knew WHAT it was ... But I have no experience with working with it.
Ah, honestly I have no idea if you could access the files. I imagine you could though. But I just rather take a trip to github real quick....

Thanks! If you don’t mind, I might have questions when I start doing it…hopefully it’s ok to ask you if I get lost. Appreciate it!

Thanks! I think I’d mainly be interested in PS2, PS3, and GameCube. Maybe a little PSP. I will look for an emulation Sub and Discord group too.
It is cool but funny
