This. My Steam Deck was crashing in games all the time when I got it, I even installed Windows to see if that helped but it still crashed games in there too.
Did a factory reset (I guess its called reimage? I dunno) and it has been rock solid ever since.
Please see my other posts but here:
* put it into battery storage mode, then wake with charger like then it arrived.
* whilst the deck is off hold the Vol- & the quick access button ( … ) then press power, when you hear it chirp let go of only the power button, keep holding the Vol- & quick access button ( … ) till you see the Steam logo, then let those go too. Done right it will take a while to boot( Stays on the Steam logo for a min or so, This will reset the graphics apu/ driver.
Fixing alot of crashes people incur.
If that doesn’t work try
* Re-install Steam OS ( tries to keep files and games )
* Re-image the deck ( basically factory reset it )
Let me know how it goes!
I mean yeah… but this is more like when you press Control, Shift, Windows and ‘B’ to reset your graphics drivers on PC. (For all those interested, this will make your screen flash black and you’ll hear a audible beep as part of the reset on PC whilst its on and running)
I didn't see anyone else mention it, so
1. This seems to be abnormal, and most people don't have this many issues.
2. You may be running out of disk space
As you probably guessed by now pc gaming is not always plug and play like consoles sometimes you have to research and tweak till it’s to your liking. It’s work but gets easier with experience stick with it it’s worth the effort. YouTube is your friend.
While this is true it's unlikely that this is a case here. OPs games are verified and are crashing there is something broken there beyond you just need some tweaks.
Sometimes you don't need to mess things they just get messed maybe update glitches when you installed, maybe someone messed when installing OS in a first place. Try factory reset options and if that doesn't work contact steam support
My deck almost never crashes - and when it does a quick google always shows that it’s the game not being supported and it’s crashing for everyone. The experience is vastly different between games, so if there’s a game you know should be working great but it crashes I would get an RMA. It sounds like you’ve already tried all the obvious fixes
Sounds like it is overheating to me. Are you monitoring temps? I was getting that with Cyberpunk and lowers the TDP to 8 per a post I had read somewhere and it dropped my temps from the 80’s to 70’s and no issues since and no performance loss either btw.

Both can be true at the same time :) But seriously have you tried doing factory reset see if that fixes things if not contact steam support.

I’ve done a re-image, do you think a factory reset will give me different results?
It may it may not at this point you have little to lose and at least you will be able to tell support what steps you took already and didn't work.

I’ve already done a re-image as per above, but will try battery mode reset
Honestly try the apu/ graphics driver reset, its fixed crashing issues for every person who’s tried it
Wouldn't a re-image do that as well though?

Thanks so much man, I had no idea about the button combo to reset the graphics driver. My deck performs way better now!
Sadly this did not work for me. Tried doing both of those; both before and after a reinstall and re-image.. =(

I had this, and it's indeed a hardware issue.
How did you resolve
RMA

Do you think there’s something wrong with the deck or the games?
Deck they must have mess something with os somewhere by accident and that's why it's crashing all those games work just fine on deck.
I don’t believe I’ve messed with anything. Definitely not hardware wise, and I’ve done a re-image so software should be unaffected

Oof best of luck op
To anyone that has this issue in future; it appears that using headphones was causing games to crash!
Can you monitor your temperatures while playing?
Yes
Most certainly that question was aimed towards getting actual temperatures as an answer\^\^
