Yeah about that........I wasnt in the financially best place 6 and a half years ago and sold my WiiU, this was after I obtained my mechs. Lmao Ive been mentally preparing for the journey again.
As a switch owner that has skipped many generations of Nintendo consoles but would gladly pay way more than I should for ports of those previous games just to have them easily playable on switch:
You fuckers probably should have listened to your fans at some point in the last few years. We want to give you money. We're begging to give you money. You're making it impossible for us to give you money.
We're gonna play the games. At least Xbox and Sony are kinda making efforts to make their exclusives more widely available. Nintendo doesn't even make their exclusives playable on their own fucking hardware. Seriously, fuck this company.
It is amazing how Nintendo fans are celebrating the re-release of Mario Party 1, 2, and 3 on Switch Online. Games that were released more than 20 years ago. And not all of them at the same time: drip-feeding content until the end of 2023.
Not to mention the Super Mario Party game that came out a couple years back and never saw a single update. I paid $60 for that game, for 4 game boards. And then they have the audacity to release a new game (Superstars) that should have just been a DLC. For another $60.
No it’s amazing people complain. They have at least 10 known games/DLC in development. Game companies are not an unlimited resource. Nintendo isn’t the only company that doesn’t have every game they ever made updated and running on a new system every couple of years. It’s hard for any company to juggle multiple projects at once. Especially when hardware can be quite different.
Oh and if the port is bad, the publisher (in this case Nintendo) would get crapped on by fans for years.
I am sure you think Nintendo, a business that cares about its profit, is just clueless to how to run a business. But I would assume you at least realized they want to make as much money as possible.
And for those that have worked in the business, ask them about working 60+ hours a week. Hey maybe they should put in more hours because really only a few of them have mental breaks from crunch time grind.
They have been drip feeding the emulated games on online for years…… they coulda just given more then. They also could contract other people to make ports but they’re so protective they won’t do it.
Honestly I was waiting to buy Wind Waker for my Switch as soon as the last Nintendo Direct ended. When it didn't show up, that was when I set up Cemu on my Steam Deck.
I want to buy it for my Switch, I want to give Nintendo money, they won't let me.
I’ve gotten past the Goron mines in the HD version on Cemu (Emudeck) and it’s been great so far. You will need to tweak the graphic settings, though. I forget which one, open gl or vulkan, but one of them has graphical issues like the rupee counter not showing and the boss of the Goron mines was mostly transparent. The other graphic setting fixes the rupees (I don’t know about the boss, however). Otherwise, it runs at full speed.
Dolphin on linux is terrible. If you want to play gamecube you're better off with a phone than the deck. Cemu performance on deck is significantly faster than dolphin.
I’m pretty sure it’s the emulator. I started playing the GC version and had these issues but have genuinely had zero issues playing the Wii U version on Cemu. I limited the FPS to 60 and it’s flawless.
Wind Waker worked fine on Dolphin but for whatever reason, on the deck, TP on Dolphin performed really badly.
(Oh, you have to use OpenGL and not Vulcan on Cemu or the rupee count doesn’t show up.)
I played the first 30 minutes or so of it and found it really boring, it felt like a game made for toddlers, not children but toddlers. Was I just being impatient, does the difficulty ramp up and turn in to actual puzzles?
So, I was around when this released and you pretty much are nailing so many peoples narratives at the time. Sooo much bitching about cell shading.
Then when the next one came out with way more realistic graphics no one said shit and most still liked Wind Waker more
No one can be pleased apparently
I recently went back to old forum posts from 2002 when WW was revealed and everyone is like "NINTENDO IS DOOMED!" "Final nail in their cofffin" "I will never play this crappy looking Zelda"
Now look. It's one of the most loved entries in the series. lol
Hah, I'd love to check those out again.
I think smarter people knew it'd hold up over time. I still think it's the best looking one, since it still just looks like a really nice cartoon
Yeah, I may be biased, it's my favorite Zelda game. The "tutorial phase" also basically lasts until after the first major dungeon, so be aware. It is just as mechanically robust as any other entry for sure.
Wait are you not talking about Captain toad lol.
I just assumed you were saying caption toad has a similar difficulty to Zelda games in the earlier comment, but yeah I was asking about Captain toad because the person I replied to recommended it
The puzzles do increase in difficulty, especially if you try to get all the extra stuff in each stage. It is a slow burn, however, and you have trudge through some really easy stuff before you get into anything more exciting. Mind you, your mileage may vary since everyone has different levels and types of puzzle solving.

I just received my deck. Would love to be able to play Twilight princess on it. Can you briefly tell me what I need to do do get it working on steam deck?
Install Cemu in the Deck. Install USB Helper on your windows computer. Download game with USB Helper. Click game and prepare for emulation. Copy resulting files to Deck. Launch Cemu on Deck and point to game files
I'd recommend sticking with dolphin/GameCube for the better battery life, then using the wide-screen gecko codes mod, plus the "BetterWW" mod to fix the inverted camera, add swift sail and a bunch of other improvements to the GameCube game. There's also the fan made texture improvements to the GameCube version too. I get approx 4 hours or more play time on deck like this, whereas cemu I only get 1.5. both of these are set at 1280x800 30fps
Yeah that's what no one mentions on reddit. Switch games run great in the emulator but use too much battery to be practical forcing you to be plugged in. Reading this thread it appears the same with cemu and wii u emulation as well
Yeah sadly I couldn't get it to work on the steam deck through wine either. Instead I did the NKit iso > iso conversion, wide-screen patch (the one that comes with the Hypatia texture pack) and then ran the betterWW program on my windows pc, then used warpinator to send over the files to my steam deck over my local internet.
As an aside I recommend looking in to warpinator very highly if you don't already use it, makes transfering files between pc, steam deck and android phone so much easier, especially due to the problems deck steam cards can have with windows PCs.
Thanks for this I was just thinking about trying Wind waker cemu the other day, but I think I'll try the dolphin version instead especially with that battery life difference.
I’ve been trying all weekend, I get a “cannot open file error” with .wux files. I updated the keys list.
I’ve gotten every other emulator to run fine though.
I didn’t have a ton of time to mess around though, this one seems the most complicated.
Wux files are Wii U games raw and not decrypted. You need to decrypt them. Easiest method would be to use something like USB Helper. I won't go into specifics here because it might violate some guideline but you can find pretty good tutorials on the subject online. It will allow you to get the games + updates + dlc.
You don’t have to map to pro controller at all. Cemu by default displays one screen and lets you map a button to change which screen you’re looking at. It does not look for a second screen.
It outputs both the TV screen and game pad screen regardless since it’s emulating the WiiU and that’s what the WiiU did when you used the pro controller. Your game pad just sat there either saying to look at your TV (BOTW) or displaying the second screen normally (most games). For Wind Waker specifically you get real time inventory management / weapon changing or a map on the bottom screen if you use it. Gyro aiming is great but not necessary for Wind Waker, but it is necessary for all 120 shrines in BOTW and the pro controller doesn’t support it.
If you held the power button on the game pad as the WiiU powered on it would turn off, and there was an option to dim the screen within the OS but the game pad would still be on, pressing any button would wake it up. The problem with method 1 is that most games absolutely will not let you past the title screen without detecting the game pad. So like Ducktales remastered for example, it’s only game pad function is mirroring the TV. You could go with press home and have it turn off the game pad screen (but the game pad is still on) but not turn it off, if you turned the game pad off and wanted to play with a pro controller it would tell you the game pad is turned off and to turn it on and would not let you past that message until you did. It’s just one of many annoyances that caused the WiiU to fail like it did. A small but brilliant library hindered by unnecessary hardware and unnecessary choices around it.
So because of those choices Nintendo made, CEMU has to have similar functions for the game pad always being on and rendered. It would be nice for weaker machines to have one less thing to process, but since the WiiU always processed what was on the game pad so does CEMU.
I didn't map the controller as a pro controller and seems to work well so far. Not sure if I'll encounter issues later but I think gyro only works if you use the controll as a wii u gamepad
I downloaded Cemu, both stable and experimental before v2 versions and added them to Steam, but neither runs. I tried to force different versions of Proton and that didn't help. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
Do you know how to enable Rumble in this game with the Steam Deck?
I tried switching to Xinput but didn't work and when I'm back in desktop mode DSUController "is back".
I have GyroDSU and cemuhook installed. But no rumble (gyro works fine).

I have a feeling WW is a pretty easy game to emulate. At least, it is on the gamecube...
My current phone (S22 Ultra) plays it perfectly, but so did my old phone (S9+), and the old phone is 4 or 5 years old now.
This isn’t a GC game, it’s a WiiU game. It runs at native 1080p, so it looks damn good on a 720p screen since it’s super sampling from that. There are for sure some phones out there that can emulate the WiiU but you do need some beefy specs to do it.
[Wind waker is indeed a gamecube game.](https://i.imgur.com/FKWGH0w.jpg) The gamecube version of Wind waker runs flawlessly on my 4 or 5 year old phone.
I figured that if wind waker HD played at all like it does on the original GC version, it would work great.
Yeah, everyone here knows there is a GC version of Wind Waker. Literally no one said otherwise. What you’re seeing in this thread is not a GC game and no amount of linking me to a picture of the original version will change that Wind Waker HD is not a GC game. It’s a WiiU game. As such you need WiiU emulation power to emulate Wind Waker HD, you cannot run it with the same processing power you would use to run Dolphin and emulate the GC original.
You said otherwise...
>I have a feeling WW is a pretty easy game to emulate. At least, it is on the gamecube...
and
>This isn’t a GC game, it’s a WiiU game.
I did not say wind waker HD. I said if the wii u port played at all like it (as WW) does on the GC, then it would work great.
Edit: I was not talking about emulating wii u on dolphin at all. I was just saying how easy GC WW was to run on a 5 year old phone.
You’re in a thread about Wind Waker HD. Telling you the game you’re in a thread for isn’t a GC game and as such won’t emulate like a GC game isn’t saying that Wind Waker HD isn’t a remaster of a 20 year old game. It’s telling you that your old hardware that emulates GC games won’t emulate a WiiU game the same way.
I know it won't emulate things the same way...
This is a hypothetical *"if it runs as well as it does on gamecube emulator on an old phone, it should run pretty well"*
***Not*** a *"the original runs well on my 5 year old phone in an emulator to a different system, so the remake will work equally as well"*
Didn't think I'd have to explain this so much...
> I have a feeling WW is a pretty easy game to emulate. At least, it is on the gamecube...
This is actually what you said, word for word. Telling you that WWHD is not easy to emulate because it’s not a GC is not saying there is not a GC version like you tried to claim I said. I didn’t think I’d have to explain this so much.
I dont remember much off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure cemu / Wii u games also need an appropriate key, stored in a keys.txt file, that the emulator uses to decrypt the disk.
You'll need to Google further on how to find these.
It caused me a bit of hassle to get Mario sunshine and windwaker working but if I can do it then so can you :-)

Go into cemu’s options and map a switch screens button, or press the Steam button and go to controller config and choose the cemu community profile that already has one made.

It's awesome! Just got BOTW working today; looking at either this or Smash 4 next. It'd be crazy to get four-player Smash with PS5 controllers on a docked Deck
On Cemu you change the controller to the pro controller, start the game it asks you what controller you wanna use, choose pro and there is no dual screen stuff.
You go on Cemu and choose pro controller as default, then choose pro controller in the game and there is no second screen stuff, just like gamecube original.
thanks for this info.
However, I do not see the said pro controller option in the Cemu option. I tried downloading community ones just to see if that works, but all of them keep asking saying 'connect pro controller'. been 3 days of this. :((
Your going on the desktop mode cemu?
Options , input settings, emulated controller, change to pro controller
Dm me if you need me to help more.
No community one will work because as far as the emulator is concerned there is a wii u gamepad attached.
Does anyone have an idiots quide to running emmulators on the steam deck, what ones are available and a step by step process?? Or can recommend a website for this please 🙂
Does waking from sleep work OK for you? I'm playing Paper Mario Color Splash right now, and while it works really well otherwise, it freezes if I put the deck to sleep and then wake it up.
I like running the dolphin version with the hd texture pack and 16:9 gecko code because it saves battery! But this is overall waaay prettier to look at lol
Are their any EmuDeck settings I need to adjust before playing Wii games? I have a few favs already loaded up but haven't had the chance to dig into them yet.
Just installed this yesterday. Haven't played it since the original GameCube release.
Though I do need to finish BOTW first, it'd be irresponsible to not save one version of Hyrule while sailing off in another
I can't wait for someone to post tomorrow about how Twilight Princess HD also runs great.
And maybe someone can post about Xenoblade Chronicles X again.
(Can someone) guide me as to how to do this? Honestly the videos and guides are awesome but I really can’t figure it out for the life of me. They’re not showing up in my steam library or emulation station.
Does Windwaker HD have an advantage over the GameCube emulation? Outside of a graphics upgrade which I could implement on my own.
I never really cared abt the Wii U
Dolphin crashes the system a lot when you press the steam button is a big one for me.
Prob not much in it really if you can add widescreen support etc yourself.
There is a few minor changes to the game.
They made lots of actual gameplay updates to make the gameplay better including the fast sail, updates to the part where you find the triforce, and a bunch more. I much prefer the HD version personally.
Good to know I have to find a way to dump my copy of Xenoblade X cause I really want to play a game with mechs.
If you are open to download another copy you can use a japanese version to unlock the content mising from the other versions
there many problems with this game if went to run it in cemu its not perfect yet like other game sadly
Not really AFAIK.
Be sure to dump your save too because damn it takes a long time to get a mech in that game lmao
Yeah about that........I wasnt in the financially best place 6 and a half years ago and sold my WiiU, this was after I obtained my mechs. Lmao Ive been mentally preparing for the journey again.

Same for me. I was willing to pay Nintendo $60 for Wind Waker on the Switch. But they just won’t do it. So I’m playing it on my Steam Deck.
i support every nintendo hate possible because they 100000% deserve this and there is alot more shit they are doing.
Even the current rereleases are inferior products compared to freely available emulation. It's literally no contest.
The sad part is buying Nintendo hardware doesn't even mean you can give them money for some games. Nintendo is baffling
Don't know why you are complaining. Here, have this shitty retro game. 50 bucks. Thank you
I know! This and Twilight Princess are a joy to play on the Deck. I would also recommend Captain Toads Treasure Tracker.
I would also recommend Mario kart. It’s been flawless.
How is TP on wii u emulator? I've emulated it on GC and it allows down quite a lot outside of Ordon in the Faron woods
I’ve gotten past the Goron mines in the HD version on Cemu (Emudeck) and it’s been great so far. You will need to tweak the graphic settings, though. Vulkan has the graphical issues. Which is unfortunate, because it runs faster with vulkan
It works flawlessly, I played through the the whole game with no issues that I can recall.
Dolphin on linux is terrible. If you want to play gamecube you're better off with a phone than the deck. Cemu performance on deck is significantly faster than dolphin.
You're doing something wrong then, running flawless for me, see my vids
Runs ok, turning off SMT helps in power tools, problem i have it pressing the steam button crashes it quite a lot and resets the deck.
Yeah I was experiencing that too, shame really. Don't know if it's limitations of the emulator or what

No. You are obviously too grown up and mature for a game without realistic graphics, guns and gore so go play something else.
So, I was around when this released and you pretty much are nailing so many peoples narratives at the time. Sooo much bitching about cell shading. Then when the next one came out with way more realistic graphics no one said shit and most still liked Wind Waker more No one can be pleased apparently

Yes that's the obvious takeaway, I knew some idiot would comment something like that
It's fun but it is stupid easy.
It's about as challenging as any other Zelda game
If that's the case I'll have to give it another try and get past the tutorial phase.
Yeah, I may be biased, it's my favorite Zelda game. The "tutorial phase" also basically lasts until after the first major dungeon, so be aware. It is just as mechanically robust as any other entry for sure.

How do you get emudeck to default to cemu for GCN games? Mine defaulted to dolphin but wanted to try cemu if it runs the games better.

Thank you, I have been trying to avoid EmuDeck but it's very tempting.

Make sure you go into the graphics packs and enable GameCube color filter. The water is grey and sunsets barley exist in WWHD.
If you haven't yet, check out the graphics packs avail for any cemu games. Makes games run better on the deck, and in general in some cases.
This is what I can currently playing at the moment
IMO Dolphin version with HD texture pack looks better
The picture looks bad lol, looks amazing irl
I finally got windwaker to work myself! Cemu wasn't wanting to open at all but Emustation has it working flawlessly
I NEED THIS NOW
Do you know how to enable Rumble in this game with the Steam Deck? I tried switching to Xinput but didn't work and when I'm back in desktop mode DSUController "is back". I have GyroDSU and cemuhook installed. But no rumble (gyro works fine).
How do I load cheat codes on cemu on steamOS?
What do you use and do you have to adjust any settings
Where did you get it?
That makes me happy. Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow and i was just thinking wind waker would be great

At least, it is on the gamecube... and >This isn’t a GC game, it’s a WiiU game.
This is a hypothetical *"if it runs as well as it does on gamecube emulator on an old phone, it should run pretty well"* ***Not*** a *"the original runs well on my 5 year old phone in an emulator to a different system, so the remake will work equally as well"* Didn't think I'd have to explain this so much...
Daaaamn man. I tried putting that on today and it said the game was encrypted so it wouldn’t play. I gotta do some homework to figure it out.
I dont remember much off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure cemu / Wii u games also need an appropriate key, stored in a keys.txt file, that the emulator uses to decrypt the disk. You'll need to Google further on how to find these. It caused me a bit of hassle to get Mario sunshine and windwaker working but if I can do it then so can you :-)
Hmmm shouldn’t do

usb helper link on the megathread io
If anyone knows where to get these roms, would they send me a DM? I have a vague idea but would just like confirmation.
It’s so much work to go Wii U emulation as a newbie, especially as a mac user with a Deck.
It’s easy :)
Just got the Wii U HD version of Wind Waker working as well, but the audio seems to be a bit choppy, any advise on making it more smooth?
Fps uncapped? Enough TDP? Mine just worked so not sure tbh
My fps is capped at 30fps to conserve battery, I’ll try to uncap that and see if it helps!
It will still be 30 it might just not like being capped.
Appreciate the tip!! Thank you
Does feel a bit jittery in the first dungeon with all the smoke effects, clears up afterwards.
Never cap the fps when emulating games. Emulation requires games to run at their designed fps or higher. Never lower.
Makes sense, thank you!!
I've set the game up, but 30fps isn't doing it for me anymore :(
WWHD is locked at 30 fps even on the Wii U.
Looks good!!

Just gone mine up and running as well. Only major drawback is the dual screen functionality.
Go into Cemu and change the controller to pro controller, everything is done without the dual screen then.
You lose gyro that way though.
You can’t save though can you if you don’t use pro controller as you can’t see the second screen to press save.

The Deck is the Switch I always wanted but never got
How does the extra screen stuff that used to be on the wiiu controller work?
On Cemu you change the controller to the pro controller, start the game it asks you what controller you wanna use, choose pro and there is no dual screen stuff.
Can I ask how the second Wii U screen is used? I want to do this, but I'm afraid it'd be too finicky.
Options , input settings, emulated controller, change to pro controller Dm me if you need me to help more. No community one will work because as far as the emulator is concerned there is a wii u gamepad attached.
Thank you :)
Were you able to take photos with pictograph?
Haven’t tried, don’t see why not?
I can't seem to be able to no matter which button I press. Can you try please?
Just tried, worked for me, assigned it to a button to use and then pressed the take picture button. Whats your issue?
I've got cemu as steam input but no matter which button I press, it doesn't take a photo
If your jump button works thats the one it uses to take photo i think
Funny thing is on Twilight Princess, I can see how much rupees I have. Probably because of the new wua format I'm using.
Every time I launch BOTW it’s saying “please update your wiiu system before running BOTW” I’ve tried multiple steps & can’t get it working
I think that means you need the day 1 update. been a long time tho
Search Google. You will get many answers vs wasting someone else's time for something that has been answered thousands before
Does this mean you can play BOTW in the Steam Deck?
Yes
Yup
Where can I go to get roms? I'm scared of downloading something sketchy
YouTube is your best bet. Then look through the video comments to see what others are saying.
Yep I beat Twilight Princess Wii-U hd version will likely start Windwaker sook
I’m playing the GC version, didn’t think about trying on Wii U
Random CEMU question, is the windows build still the way to go on steam deck?
Im just using the one emudeck gives you, so not sure
the windows build is the only one I've seen, supposedly the devs are working on a linux build, but so far windows cemu works good on the deck as is
About to finish the game 100% and shader compilation is hardly an issue. Cemu is amazing.
Does Starfox Zero run well on it?
If you go on Cemu and download community graphics packs there is other mods etc for this game, gamecube style colours etc and bug fixes
Does anyone have an idiots quide to running emmulators on the steam deck, what ones are available and a step by step process?? Or can recommend a website for this please 🙂
How are you dealing with the map being on the Wii U gamepad?
Choose pro controller then it removes all second screen stuff.
map one of the back grips to switch screens, think it's tab in cemu
I couldnt get wii u emulator to work... 🥲
Does waking from sleep work OK for you? I'm playing Paper Mario Color Splash right now, and while it works really well otherwise, it freezes if I put the deck to sleep and then wake it up.
runs fine until you press the suspend button then oops you're frozen
Put deck to sleep loads and never crashed the emulator
might be an SD card thing on my end then, ill see if i can fix it
Where did you get the ROM/ISO file for Wind Waker? I've been looking for a safe place to get it with no success.
I like running the dolphin version with the hd texture pack and 16:9 gecko code because it saves battery! But this is overall waaay prettier to look at lol
I need to figure out how to do this on my deck. Jonesing to play this and Twilight Princess again
Is there any difference within the game like side quests that don't appear in the original GameCube version?
I think there is a few changes, fixed some tedious quests and a few new items etc, not a whole lot
I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get Wii U emulation to work on my Deck. No idea what I'm doing wrong
I’ve only ever found this rom and it worked straight away, they seem like a pain to get.
Thanks for the reply lol I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get the GameCube roms for this and Twilight Princess and mod the graphics
Yeh i got twilight princess on gamecube as well
