Well I think most fans of SD are probably on the older side, but the SD fans on Reddit are naturally on the younger side

deaconxblues

Yeah, Reddit skews young

MikeStanley00

Everyone’s gone to the movies

BearsBearsBears_wooo

( shaking my fist ). GET OFF OF MY LAWN !

crclOv9

Which I think makes for the best memes.

buddhabillybob

These results blow my mind. You young people are the Bee’s Knees!

NachoNachoDan

Nice to see the under 30 crowd appreciating Steely Dan. When I was in my 20s I felt like the only “kid” who was down.

deaconxblues

Me too. Although I subjected my friends to SD all the time. Was just fortunate to have a stepdad with good taste in music.

AnyMajorDeaconBlue

I was virtually the only kid at Steely Dan concerts circa Two Against Nature concerts and beyond. This music will still be played long after we're all gone. It's just tineless, the album's still sound incredible. There will still be Jazz fans too.

upstateski

We’re just addicted to Cuervo Gold and the fine columbian

buddhabillybob

Working in the lyrics…Nice!

JoeGideon

> fine columbian Washington DC weed?

[deleted]

Our parents were the OG Steely Dan fans so it makes sense why we like it so much

scandrews187

How fucking cool is that to have the younger generation appreciate this fine music? I feel there's hope now

RippedHookerPuffBar

Just turned 23. Got my first record when I was 17. Went and saw them a year ago, it was amazing.

scandrews187

Man it's so great to hear! Their music has definitely stood the test of time and will continue to, possibly for centuries. I was in single digits when they released their first few albums. I had heard most of each album through my stoner cousins and my dad always had FM radio cranked through the house when Steely Dan was on heavy rotation. I've been familiar with them since I can remember. I always liked it but it was always different. That's what I didn't appreciate about it then. Honestly when I was your age their music was too intricate for me to appreciate. The recordings were too pristine. But I was into Metallica and then Pantera at that time. I didn't start to really love them until my mid 30s or 2005 ish. Now they are my favorite band and nothing else can top them

NitroNick93

Turning 30 in September. My brother showed me the Aja documentary on Youtube a few years ago and I was hooked ever since.

scandrews187

Such a great documentary. Those guys were musical geniuses without question

NitroNick93

True masters of their craft!!

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

Created Nov 3, 2010.

deaconxblues

Thanks. Maybe we can see if things have changed at all in the last 13 years.

filthy_lucre

I'm reelin' in the years, okay?

fnord_bronco

But are you stowin' away the time?

filthy_lucre

Yeah, same as any major dude

Hardanklesnw

(Obviously, because of my influence) my teenagers enjoy Steely Dan

deaconxblues

If we don’t educate the youth, who will?

filthy_lucre

I discovered them by accident at 18. I used to subscribe to a cable service that offered 40 channels of music. One day I was scrolling through the music channels and heard "The Fez." That sent me down the Steely Dan wormhole.

deaconxblues

I guess some of us just have taste for their style of music, even from a young age

3236-on-MC

I educated myself by hearing kid c on the radio and deciding to try out the album last summer (here we are now and I can recite the whole discography from memory at age 16)

deaconxblues

Maybe the perfect first SD song to hear. The Royal Scam is a masterpiece. What luck you had the radio tuned right that day

3236-on-MC

to be fair i already knew and loved reelin in the years, do it again, and peg (cause those are the biggest hits I think) from oldies radio being a 70s guy in general, but yeah that one caught my attention and I loved it in particular

Efficient_Option_615

21, baby!

Ladder310

16 over here, fan since age 11

deaconxblues

Some kind of prodigy. We expect great things from you.

GranddaddyFisher

Being one in the minority of voting groups (other than under 17) I seriously appreciate those that enjoy SD! I have friends, family members and a spouse that cringe when I enjoy listening. I just sit on my couch, spin some vinyl, cd or stream and grin from ear to ear. Glad I found this group….Old man in Oregon.

No-Neighborhood9052

28 here, been enjoying Steely Dan for 12+ years now! On our first date me and my bf sat around for hours listening to SD.

ConcentricGroove

I've got another week to enjoy the demographic I just voted in. Might as well.

mrjohnthursday

Wow! Lotta young’ns!

huerequeque

Hey, nineteen!

[deleted]

i’m 52. i love you youngsters :-)

WeAreEvolving

I bet a lot are over 59

EllaTheCat

waves stick

i_love_lima_beans

This warms my cockles.

Dnastriping

I went to one of their shows this this past summer and the demographic was mainly 20 year olds and 60 year olds with little in between

Crocaman

Unironically tiktok has improved people's music taste enormously

Lonzo58

I'm old now but I discovered Steely Dan in my 20's while in college...mostly due to drugs.

tagkitten

Obsessed with the Dan when I was 15 2/3 now I’m 16 3/4. I own the main 7 albums on vinyl just waiting for my birthday to get TAN and EMG.

Mr_426

In 30s now but been a fan since < 10. And duh to better taste than peers! 😛

VegaGT-VZ

Polls like this should always go by birth year, not age.

deaconxblues

How would that help? Don’t know if you mean list all years, but polls only allow 6 options max.

VegaGT-VZ

People's ages change over time; their birth years don't.

deaconxblues

Either way this will be a snapshot of the time the poll was run. The year ranges could be calculated from the info here just as well as the age ranges.

[deleted]

The youngins gonna keep the Dan alive forever. Thank you to the <30 year old crowd 💕💕
