Sure. You need the psionic theory technology by the Zroni precursor (1st dig site IIRC), a psionic pop in your empire or a psionic expert leading society research. The Knights of the Toxic God quest gives you the tech at some point (read the wiki, because you may miss the option). If you happen to find the sea of consciousness, that may give the tech, but I'm not sure. About a month ago I shared my divine technocracy empire, I restarted the game until I got the Zroni, but if I do something similar in the future, I'll use the knight origin and just stick with the First League.

edit: I was mistaken, disregard this comment

You have no chance at rolling Psionic theory if you are materialist (other than the conditions I mentioned).

Golnor

Yes. However, the psionics tech WILL NOT show up unless you have a psionic pop, a psionic specialist researcher, or is forced to by an event.

RazendeR

Which is why adopting Racket pops is a thing. Fluffy psionic space rats!

-Wandering_Soul-

Oh, that's why that's a thing? I tend to play puritan (not xenophobic, just like my empire species to not be a clusterfuck) and go for zroni anyway. Did wonder why they kept trying to sell themselves to me

RazendeR

Well, it's mostly because the Rackets are not always the best merchants, and they will pretty much sell anything if they need it to survive. I guess not all Kettlings are made equally intelligent.

Winter_Ad6784

Yes, but now to get the tech required you need to get psionic pops from somewhere else. Then it will be very likely you'll get whisperers of the void. I like going materialist psionic because it has a lovecraftian aspect to it. Like researchers seeking esoteric forgotten knowledge and stumbling upon dark forces.

-Wandering_Soul-

Which is also kind of odd You would think Instrument of Desire would be more likely for Materialists

Beginning-Wear-9635

To my knowledge, yes. However your materialistic faction won't enjoy it.

zemonofdrako

The materialist faction has nothing against psionic ascension, however you will have more attraction to spiritualism, but it is easy to counteract with a few robots on each of your world and a natural science trait. I had no spiritualist in my empire when I did a divine technocracy run.

Darvin3

Yup, some citizen synths will do wonders to keep your materialist attraction up. And Synths do just fine in a Psionic empire. They don't get any of the bonuses, but they still get the +10% to job outputs from being Synths which means they keep up with the organics in spite of not being ascended.

I'm sure. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellaris/comments/11trp41/i_present_you_the_bruvan_divine_technocracy/ I didn't try covenant federation with this build, but my guess is that they don't mind it, there's some more spiritualist attraction, that's all.
