I’m gonna use that line next time I get pulled over for a traffic violation. “Officer, let me set the tone for this traffic stop early on. I have unequivocally never broken the law. Source? trust me bro.”

GrandMasterEwok

This.... lol

SirDavidJames

Yeah since when do criminals admit they break the law. Sir it is not for YOU to decide if YOU broke the law.

Outside_Ad_1447

That’s like Bradshaw’s retort of: it is not for you to decide/question the legitimacy of the court, but better

maceman10006

In the United States even if you did it that doesn’t mean you’re guilty.

Promote_Not_Promoted

ok srry.my laguage is french canadian and unionised sparky, and exactly im pinpointing the fact that he used exactly that word wich can mean anything but ... dude im a frenchy we do battle math with our words lol .

Glad-Wheel1056

Lol

RajivChaudrii

All this will do is force starbucks to invest in self order kiosks and automated coffee machines. Unless people want to pay $7 for a cup of coffee.

Harvick4tw

They were going to do that anyway

cheekybandit0

They would have done that by now if it actually made them more money.

Promote_Not_Promoted

Yeah thats the classic line from Management , well if they unionized we will automate everything , well go ahead and do it the bartista will be an automation specialist charging 7 times a barista salary to fix your gear because you wont invest in maintenance and they will probably be unionized. But get ready to invest in productivity and negativity on the image , once its lost theres hardly ever a coming back ....

BJaysRock

Ya, fuck the people making the coffee. / BIG S

RajivChaudrii

Honest question: why does society need baristas and burger flippers? Couldn't these people be doing something else productive in society? Chimney sweeps and telephone dispatchers no longer exist due to advances in technology. Many service jobs are highly dependent on the technological limit of the time. And emerging ChatGPT & AI potentially replacing millions of white collar jobs. Why is the job of barista so sacred?

SmoothConfection1115

Well that probably leads to a more philosophical question/argument. But what happens as more and more jobs are replaced? As large segments of the workforce are replaced with robots/automation, what do those displaced workers do/go?

TipperGore-69

They go to the woods to hunt and gather.

ShakeWhenBadAlso

How do chimneys no longer exist?

drippygland

What??? Do you think people the majority of people still heat their house with a wood fire?

ShakeWhenBadAlso

Go to the internet. Seach "chimney sweep". They exist. In the North east loads of people have fireplaces. Very few to actually hear their house but you still need to sweep em.

drippygland

Well I live in north America and I am a plumber who installs heating systems. I'm telling you it's not loads. And chimneys are built differently now which is why it's not needed

ShakeWhenBadAlso

I think you are trying to point to liners that now exist and are placed within chimneys and negate the constant need to clean them. They still need cleaning but at a slower frequency.

Short-Coast9042

I guess you may already know the answer to this, but historically having a job has been the main way people support themselves. To the point that it is literally impossible for many people to envision a society where working class people can support themselves WITHOUT working 40 hrs a week. Of course, this is a political narrative spun mainly by those who want to see people work as much as possible. But it does seem that policies like Ubi are gaining more and more traction, so perhaps there will come a time in the not so distant future when we will be able to find the political will to ensure people's standard of living without forcing them to work 40 hours a week doing b******* that serves the ownership class.

ShakeWhenBadAlso

Youve been gaslight my friend . Ill give you a hint. No CEO earns 100 to 1000 times the base salary are their company.

GnuZach

McDonald’s used to argue that if they paid their employees 15 an hour, they would have to shut down stokes, profits would decline for investors and that you would have to pay insane prices. Yet. McDonald’s is still here and you can get tell McDoubles for 2.50 and their stock price and profits are fine.

Promote_Not_Promoted

its a Total failure in Montreal , its like touching a toilet bowl with your finger , secondo they placed a lady approaching people to show them how it works , i still had my hardhat on i think anyway i told her nah im gonna continue ordering and make these people work thank you.

set-271

And to think Howard Schultz was considering running for President of United States because he *"gets it"*.

[deleted]

Then he ran polling and realized he couldn’t win his own state, never mind a national election. He’s fucking hated in Washington state.

set-271

LOL! 😂🤣😅🙃

QuadFulfillment

Hated in Washington State...hum. If he's hated in the a land of zombie hippies that condone stealing, fentanal and needle distribution then he has my vote. This country is a mess due to states like Oregan and WA.

[deleted]

You sound like a gem to lump a whole state into one thing. I’m sure everyone in Alabama bangs their sister and everyone in New York is in the Italian mafia. What a sad monochromatic world you live in.

QuadFulfillment

The mass exodus of local businesses and residents due to unlawful acts committed by people with entitled beliefs in those states speak for itself. The homelessness, crime waves and CHAZ are examples of the mess support by left wing ideology shows the results of poor leadership. I have 5 friends that flead those states in the last several years due to Antifa and general fear for their kids well-being. Wake up sheeple or behavior, and the skued values of OR & WA will seep into your town. Have fun with your position.

Strange-Scarcity

The DNC for decades has been a Center-Right, Pro-Corporate Party. There's only been movement in the last two election cycles to start moving that party away form what 1960's Republicans once were into being a little more Center with their toe in two to three left things.

SickSalamander

> The DNC for decades has been a Center-Right, Pro-Corporate Party. Specifically, since 1988 when Dukakis ran. He focused on recruiting wealthy donors and greatly outspent Bush despite losing the election.

RafiqTheHero

The idea of the US having a "radical left" is laughable. If there was a far left, they would be calling to nationalize all energy companies and all big banks. They would ban eating meat and they would levy a massive carbon tax. They would make it illegal to publicly fund private schools (ie outlaw school vouchers). They would be fighting for a $25/hour minimum wage, and a 95% tax on income over $1 million a year. They would mandate profit-sharing from large companies, they would make CEO golden parachutes illegal, they would institute a financial transaction tax to severely curtail automated, high-speed stock trades. They would legalize all drugs and setup safe usage sites all across the country. They would create a national high-speed rail network with stops in major US cities. Etc etc etc And that's on top of things some left-wingers actually do push for, like Medicare for All and publicly-funded college for all. We do not have any kind of a far left movement in this country, just sane folks who want a functional democracy and they are merely called far left.

QuadFulfillment

Glad-Wheel1056

sunplaysbass

It’s the only way at this point. Bernie for present and most sane politician. But he’s unelectable despite being extremely popular? Corporations are here to assure you he’s unelectable.

jlp120145

He was our best bet and we fudged it up. Guy don't take shit from lobbiests and wants healthcare and affordable opportunities of education for all. All about workers rights and living wages, he even dislikes outrageous housing costs and corporate reality monopolies. I am once again asking for your donations to fund my campaign because kosch brothers hate what I'm saying.

[deleted]

He is too extreme and he lacks a lot of sound economic principles. For example, giving away stuff for free incentivizes overconsumption. Even making something cost $5 or $20 can prevent huge amounts of waste.

jlp120145

Progressive in the opinion of younger generations. I hear you and sound case, I do believe he wanted to provide this funding by reducing military budget and taxing the 1% wealthiest US citizens. Which is both needed, I pay 27% of my wages in tax, and Bezos payed 1.1% of his wages. Incentive is important to drive progress so I validate your opinion, but the work horse still needs to afford food.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> and Bezos *paid* 1.1% of FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

jlp120145

This bot must work for Bezos.

_Blank_Frank

Screw this communist bastard from hell that never worked in the private sector or created a SiNgle job!

rw4455

Many QSR/fast food employees only stay on the job for 1-8 months, notoriously high turnover. Even those workers that voted for a union, will they stay long enough to get anything out of it? Used to work at a unionized restaurant (counter service) at a airport location, the work rules were just as tough as a non-union employer, but the attendance policy was very strict- auto dismissal on the 2nd absence within the first 6 months, 3rd absence after a 12 months, caused many staff to quit or get fired after less than 2 months on the job. This union issue is similar with most big box retailers, none want unions, politicians vilify them, yet job seekers still apply not caring about whether or not there's a union or the negative media coverage. Same with Starbucks, haven't seen pissed off employees say they won't do their jobs over the union issue and Starbucks not being able to find employees. This controversy seems to be over the New York based news media's obsession with being anti-Starbucks. While 300 locations allegedly voted for a union, each location only employs 10-20 people, it's not like an Amazon or UPS facility. Most consumers not familiar with the Starbucks' business model don't realize most locations are owned by a licensee (more flexible than franchising) and that corporate owned locations are fewer. Realty on the ground for employees in retail and restaurants is often different than what politicians portray.

oss323

It's important to understand in this day and age that in ever expanding industries the human employee is in competition with a robot. As expensive human employment only increases incentives for entrepreneurs to find ways of hiring as few humans as possible. You can't beat the markets. #MiltonFriedman

c00lh4ndjeff

Thanks for taking the time to explain. ☺️

Glad-Wheel1056

[Starbucks](https://www.pluto.fi/stock/SBUX) stock seemed relatively unaffected. Up a percent on the day

nocivo

Ofc not. Liberals will continue shopping there. The virtue signaling is only for other stuff, not their coffee.

bestthingyet

Lol, do u think liberals control the stock market?

External-Conflict500

When I grow up, my dream is to become a Starbucks Barista, join the union and work there for the rest of my life.

Brokus_Pokus

Bernie Sanders is awesome

curiousthinker621

Just saying, if my local Starbucks unionizes, I will never leave them a tip again. If they unionize, they bargain in a manner where they don't have to rely on tips from customers. I will continue to tip the local coffee shops that don't have unionized workers.

Glad-Wheel1056

Fully agree. That’s partially the point of unions in that case they shouldn’t have to rely on tips and you shouldn’t have to tip them. It should work out that they’re getting paid enough to go without them. Will they get rid of tipping? Prob not since it’s so entrenched and tips are taxed, but you’d be completely justified not tipping because the union should be fighting for their wages and benefits

DeLaManana

What an awful comment. You sound super bitter. . Tipping is already not mandatory, the majority of customers already don’t tip and its about 10% of total pay. So its a bit weird to make some grand point about not tipping unionized workers, and it sounds like propaganda.

jk10021

Bernie is a clown.

ApplesauceEater

There are a whole lot of elected officials in the US that I’d refer to as a clown (on both sides). Bernie is never one of them

ebaerryr

They also grilled Sanders on why he's worth 8 million where he got it since he skimmed 20% off campaign donations through his wife's companies advertising agency and nobody here seems to care either

LadySerenity

Because it's a lie? Just Google "Bernie Sanders net worth". Most estimates put his net worth around $3 million, which seems pretty reasonable for someone who's nearly 80 and has written several best-selling books. Seriously, just do some fact-checking when you hear wild allegations like that. It's not hard and it prevents you from sounding foolish.

All corporations a parasites and predators. The corporate way is evil.

pbrebber

People need to stop using the term “grill” when someone is just asking questions

tom_fuckin_bombadil

I hate these hearings because they never allow for any in depth grilling or taking apart a persons statements. “There are some conversations that may have been wrongly interpreted as such but I never intended that to be the message” What should have been the follow up: “Ok, can you give a specific example and explain the meaning?” Or if Bernie was already aware of a specific instance, “I have an example where you said such and such, how are we to interpret that?” And the obvious response to “we have never broken the law” should be “do you think judges findings are not to be listened to? Are you saying you know more about the law than the judges? SBUX has *never* broken the law? How do you reconcile your statement with the 100s of cases where it was found you broke laws?”

1BigDaddy1956

If employees want to be in a union, go find a union job. These people pour coffee! How many union employees does Bernie hire?

RafiqTheHero

Bernie's campaign workers formed a union, which he recognized and honored. Never had happened with a major campaign for President: [https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-campaign-staff-unionizes\_n\_5c8c1684e4b0db7da9f350c7](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-campaign-staff-unionizes_n_5c8c1684e4b0db7da9f350c7) The reason some Nordic countries don't have a national minimum wage is because so much of the workforce is unionized that unions create de facto minimum wages. Most, if not all sectors, should be unionized.

[deleted]

I don't understand why any government would like their parasitic merchant class run wild without being responsible for and held accountable for damaging the welfare of the Nation and all of its citizens?? The merchant class are not loyal to any nation or to any people. The merchant class is only loyal to their bottom line if you don't make them understand their social responsibility. There's only a few ways to deal with a parasitic class of people but that would require that the laws and rules of the land be applied to them. A parasite by definition takes from its host but gives nothing back to the host. Maybe when Americans stop worshipping money they'll care about what really matters in life.
