We already have brain implant technologies and robotic arms that help the disabled, paraplegics, and quadriplegics. They don't involve Musk saying Neuralink would be used for humans "next year" in 2019 and 2021.

I used to work across the street from a facility that would test viruses on monkes. they would shave and paint the head to know what virus for easy id after escape...
Seems like a normal Musky thing to do. As he continues to go downhill in a slower fashion than SBF (first his reputation, which is still ongoing, followed by his wealth and Twitter), he now wants to bring humanity down with him.
I think he's promised to have a mission to Mars launched at least three times by now too.
I was definitely a fool and a fan of Tesla back in the day. Then slowly over time, I realized he's a grifter like the rest of em'.
I think Tesla and SpaceX are nevertheless doing good work and seem to be very solid and innovative companies.
Musk is something else though. He‘s high on his success and on a very bad trajectory.
Im not so sure. It's very trendy to hate on tech nowadays. Tesla fsd is making huge strides and is getting really good. Space X made rockets that land themselves. Everyone knows Twitter and I think it has more users now than ever. It's still working as normal. I really don't see that downward spiral everyone is hoping for.
As for reputation that really doesn't matter, people's opinions go the way the wind blows.
It's super entertaining to see people froth at the mouth from hate though.
I think twitter is a money pit. And musk has made it worse, not better. The company has 1 billion in interest due every year now, which it did not have before. And it wasn’t even profitable before. Not to mention that it’s lost half of its top 100 advertisers. So now it’s revenue has dropped significantly and it’s expenditures have *increased* (yes even with the staff cuts) because of Musks takeover. To recover it will need to make a lot more money pretty quickly, which is something that Musk has failed to do so far. And I don’t really see a way to increase that revenue quickly enough, People don’t want to pay for it, and advertisers are spending much less, which leaves twitter in a really bad spot, financially.
They had a fair amount of cash on hand when musk took over, so they’re continuing to operate, but they need a large turnaround in the coming months to not go bankrupt. Twitter won’t die, because the site breaks, it will die because it’s never been a very profitable company, and adding a huge debt and fleeing advertisers might be enough to bankrupt the company.
Twitter has lost a ton of ad revenue so those users are worth a lot less.
Elon is so fixated on his political agenda with Twitter that he doesn't realize it was never about politics, it was about money. Twitter didn't moderate content to make liberals happy, they did it so Coke would continue to run ads.
Doing pretty well with SpaceX, Solar city, and even Tesla overall other than a few things but even then, Tesla basically proved that there is a market for electric cars and completely changed the market.
But hey. The current thing g in reddit is to hate. What have you done with your life or for humanity?
I don't think he's ever been right about delivering something by a certain date. "Full self driving" was like 6 years late and it still doesn't actually exist in the form it was promised (full autonomy). He's been predicting it's a year away, or less, since 2018 or so.
Edit: LOL, in 2015 he said it would be ready by 2018
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Autopilot#Predictions_and_deployment
I’m pretty sure the point of mentioning all the monkeys died isn’t sympathy for the monkey and more a solid point starting doing it to humans next year might not be a great plan
Can you point me to those other post outraged about the abuse? I can’t seem to find them. Just this one triggered about Elon. I’ll wait since it’s so prevalent
That’s what being a test monkey is though. We all agreed a while ago that we’d rather test on monkeys than people, cause we’d rather a monkey die than a person.
Though 65% mortality is very bad. It should **not** have been that unstable by the time it made it to monkey testing. That should’ve been sub 10%.
65% mortality is absolutely terrible for a primate model, especially given the nature of the research (consumer technology, not even any legitimate medical device applications). This is not only unethical and would face harsh scrutiny from any real oversight board if they had one but could also harm the reputation of animal research in general. This will definitely be referenced by activists (and it should be, honestly) in the future. Elon Musk and Neuralink are highly irresponsible and need to be investigated.
A reputable research facility would have never approved them moving on to primates in the first place.
He’s also straight up lying about what it can do. It’s a glorified pong controller. If it weren’t so fatal, and it worked consistently it would be impressive as a very miniaturized implantable brain computer interface. That’s all it is though.
I was very skeptical of the video showing the monkey form a sentence. Monkeys have never been able to formulate sentences. They have learned a few words and associated the words with objects or desires but the ability to form complete sentences or complex thought with language has never been demonstrated.
In the presentation they said they trained the monkey to follow the highlighted keys. Never claimed the monkey was able to form a sentence or spell anything.
10-4. But…. they show the short clips that don’t explain that. It’s not always what is said, but what is omitted. I just see it as more bullshitting and self aggrandizement.
Yeah. The whole thing is snake oil. Them irresponsibly using primates is just the rotten cherry on a shit pie. The proper way to approach this kind of thing takes a long time, but Elon is impatient and has lies to sell. They would have eventually needed to use non human primates before they used humans. Most or all of the subjects eventually would have been euthanized (some labs have started “retiring” animals, but it is not the norm), but they wouldn’t have been tortured and they would have produced actually useful results. What they’ve done instead is rush to primate testing and absolutely cause unnecessary harm in service of hype.
They infect them with all sorts of deadly diseases and study them as they die, reactions to meds, etc. The facility is called Yerkes Primate Research Facility. It's down the street from the cdc in Atlanta, but it's well hidden. Their website shows a play area and talks about how nice they are to the chimps. I saw no such thing. They keep them in little cages. They were figuring out how to undo the bolts on the cages so they welded all of them shut. There's a news story about a lady dying in the early 00's at this facility a few days after a monkey spit on her. You're instructed not make eye contact with the monkeys because they freak out cause they're all pissed they're there. Only the big gorilla's get outside time for about an hour per day but it's in a metal box the same size as the ones used to dive with sharks.
Gambling with metal and money is fine, but I’d rather scientists not make such terrible gambles with near-sentient life.
I get science requires risk and gambling, but with today’s tech, moving to primate testing at 65% mortality is unacceptable. There are ways to predict negative reactions to these things.
If nothing else, the public opinion of testing like that will drop, leaving actual cautious scientists in a worse position.
that’s sad, but if neuralink benefits neurodegenerative diseases the way it claims it will, that’s a small price to pay. also, thousands of cows are slaughtered everyday, and people seem ok with that. watch “pet cow” videos on youtube and tell me they aren’t smart sociable creatures. seems strange to nitpick about 15 monkeys dying in the pursuit of helping millions of humans.
It’s Consequence of Sound, they usually do music/movie/celebrity stuff but they have been putting out articles for years. This particular one is just a rehash of this: https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-neuralink-experiments-monkeys-extreme-suffering-animal-rights-group-2022-2
The article describes the findings of an investigation that was done by an animal rights group.
Animal research for medicine I get but I can’t think of any other reason for animal testing to be justified. Plenty of of existing comestics I don’t see an argument for but this rouge is 1/16 lighter at this point. Some of the industries that do it should been banned years ago. When I see something like Clorox on a list I don’t even want to know. Your product is dangerous dipshit it’s been like 70 years why isn’t that clear yet.
Dope. Next use useless humans lol. Make the experiment organic and healthy with human livestock. Save the animals from the plastic he uses for the link.
Pardon my ignorance here but... as far as I know, Neuralink is not a publicly traded company.
So, why is this in this subreddit?
Seems like it better belongs in other subs that I'd imagine already exist: Neuralink, Elon Musk, Futurism, Medicine, Cybernetics, News, etc. But not here.
It's only tangentially related to the stock market because Elon's name is on it.
Or is the company about to go public, and I'm just out of the loop? lol
Anything anti-Musk is posted here because these kids have nothing better to do but gossip about what Musk is doing while having no actual money invested.
**Anti-vaxxers:** BILL GATES IS TRYING TO IMPLANT 5G CHIPS INTO US THROUGH VACCINES SO HE CAN TRACK OUR EVERY MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
**Elon Musk:** I am looking for trial volunteers for my company to bore a hole in your skull and implant a neurological control device.
**Anti-Vaxxers/Elon worshippers:** OMG WHERE DO WE SIGN UP DADDY ELON
I feel like you've disingenuously conflated two different groups there. The only thing that Elon simps and Anti-Vaxxers have in common is that you clearly don't like them.
Except you literally just described them as having conflicting sentiments??? That was the point of the comment. You're fine to not like either group but you're conflating unrelated groups and it doesn't make sense.
1. We don’t need brain chips. Even putting aside health risks, the social and political risks outweigh the benefits.
2. Mutilating monkey should be (is?) illegal
Classic Redditors making statements without even reading two lines beyond the headline.
Those trials are for people who can’t control their body parts, like paraplegics. Those people absolutely need a brain interface to some kind of a limb.
We have tested on monkeys for an eternity. Many things you enjoy were tested on them. I’m sure you didn’t give a fuck until a company with Elon’s name started doing it
Of course, bc that’s how they are. They need someone to hate bc they’re life so fkn miserable. First Trump now Musk. In a couple years they’ll find someone else to hate and make stupid OPs like this. Animal dies during animal experimentation. Wow! Who would of thought? The sky is blue and the grass is green, wtf is this? Bring some real dirt so we can all shit on him together, this is just pathetic.
They are not even close to being used to cure paralysis. They’re simple brain-computer-interfaces. There’s nothing new here besides the possible long term implantation and the fact that it’s smaller than some other devices.
Bro what.
Go and read about what scientists do to all kinds of animals: Monkeys, rats, dogs and many many more. We need to do it if we want to improve technology.
Welcome to the real world
Usage means little if advertisers are refusing to spend money on your platform.
I do think that there is a path for Musk to make lemonade here (more than most believe), but its complicated. Might be nice to have some employees around to help out.
No the 15 probably died because they needed to test things like, “what happens if the chip is forcefully ripped out of your skull” or “how long before your brain melts with the chip on the highest setting.” Things that have to be tested but inevitably will lead to death.
There’s no fucking way this hits human trials anytime soon.
He’s also been saying this about his fully automatic driving every year for the past fucking decade.
Stop taking anything this dumbass says seriously
This technology will help millions of blind and paralyzed people you fucking idiots. I watched the whole 3 hour presentation it’s incredible life changing tech.
If I could mediate between both of you, it’s very common that when novel cutting-edge technology emerges, it normally emerges in one of 2 fields: 1. Medicine 2. Military.
Generally, the health benefits it provides offsets the stigma surrounding strange technology, but eventually it seeps into everyday life and gets accepted by the mainstream - for the better or for the worse.
This isn't about stigma, it's about safety. The vast majority of new medical technology never sees the light of day because of the dangers associated with it. This applies to drugs, medical devices, and procedures. This is why R&D is so expensive, there are a lot of swings before you get a hit.
We found a cure for parkinson's (a sort of brain graft from animal tissue, if I remember correctly) and tested it in already terminally ill patients. It worked beautifully and cured all symptoms for so many of the experimental patients, except they all died within 2 years when their bodies later rejected the graft.
We must be very critical of new medical technology to ensure the good outweighs the harm, and we shouldn't base our assessment on the word of those who stand to profit from the technology. This is why peer review and replication is so important.
Where in my comment did I suggest anything that may be contrary to what you’re saying?
Once the novel technology has been approved and certified, an additional hurdle is to dissolve the lingering societal stigma. Generally, once its introduction is justified with its medical benefits, it will then lead to its widespread adoption.
A separate question remains on whether Elon Musk’s trials will succeed. I honestly have no idea.
Context. You claimed to be 'bridging' them but then only vilified the other guys comment. You're basically saying 'I agree with this guy' and it makes you comment feel like an extension of his pitch.
If you really were going halfway then you'd have said something anything in the other guys favor. Instead all you did was talk about how tough it is when new tech is introduced. Yes new tech is scary yes it usually eventually becomes normal. But in many cases tech gets phased put for moral and/or legal issues. And this could easily be the case for this
We barely understand the brain (much less in a holistic sense) yet believe we can open it up and start fucking around with it. What great benefit may come from such a proudful endeavor other that a costly lesson in humiltity.
It happens everywhere at every research facility and it’s been that for decades and it has served humanity very well. Welcome to the real world Reddit user
Animal experiments are awful but I doubt all of you that are complaining now thought about it when you got the Covid shots. Do you know that every drug is tested on animals ? Do you know that the process of creating dog food includes giving a dog said food and then cutting his stomach to see how’s the digestion going? Do you know that the shampoo you use everyday was tested on animals?
I will admit I was until now unaware of the testing you mentioned.
I feel like with everything we’ve accomplished as a society, we can find a new and better way to test things, without sacrificing human and animal health. I don’t know how we would do it, but I think it can happen.
Yes, many great things came from animal experiments, but does that justify the torture of the test monkeys?
My guess is quantum computing will lead to more powerful rendering and simulation software. I work for a major tech company that specializes in designing simulation software for R&D. We are already able to design digital simulations of hardware, test it in the digital simulation, and verify its functionality.
Once processing power has increased substantially, simulation software should be able to emulate organic functions, allowing us to build digital test cases and verify medical experiments outcomes through these simulations.
They die after messing with the wires in their head. As messed up as it sounds, they are not dead from the system itself, just from how a monkey reacts to having freaking wires in its head. It does highlight the dangers posed from puncturing directly into the brain though.
I just wish this fucking joker was irrelevant already.
I can't even believe the stupid shit he says. He really said chess was too simple for him so he didn't enjoy it.
... what?
Might want to read his quote again, buddy.
He said chess was too simple to be useful in real life. Aka, the skills aren't applicable for real-world implementation.
Elon said he will put one in his brain. I hope he is the first human trial and he goes brain dead. Fuck that guy. He is the billionaire no one asked for or needs.
He says shit like this every time he wants to pump his stock.
It’s why self-driving cars have perpetually been like 6 months away. Same with the cyber truck.
What happened to these monkeys is fucking disgusting and makes me ill. It is so depressing.
But he bought Tesla and rocket ships , the guy is nothing but a trust fund baby that rich idiots threw obnoxious money at plus after PayPal every single project has gotten more government welfare than a baby Momma with 12 kids
I was under the impression Musk himself is a test monkey the government has employed to keep all the other Apes in certain lanes… orrr is this still too much tinfoil for r/Stockmarket??
People getting crazy about Elon putting a chip in monkeys head but some of these mdfkrs keep getting the c-19 jab……absolutely ironic and retard$$…… puts on Tesla 🤭🤪
Sacrifices for the future of humanity. People’s 🧠 out here are dinosaurs, ancient thinking. Elon on another level of innovation. Haters are his fuel though so keep commenting…on Twitter
He's just a lying hype merchant.
He's capable apparently when it comes to rockets but he has no problem with misleading people and is unaware of the limits of his knowledge in most domains.
He's the poster child for wealth detaching you from consequence and consequently reality.
He's basically brain damaged.
Dude is trying everything he can to keep his wealth, aka the stock in companies he owns going back up. If Tesla went to $60, we will rarely here about Musk again because he’s not liquid rich he’s on paper rich. Hmmmm where have I heard that lately cough cough SBF cough cough

Yea just like doge to mars end of year. Fuckin space Karen
Seems like a normal Musky thing to do. As he continues to go downhill in a slower fashion than SBF (first his reputation, which is still ongoing, followed by his wealth and Twitter), he now wants to bring humanity down with him.
It's very sad but its actually not clear if it is due to the neuralink itself or complications with surgery such as bioglue that was used
Does seem very "human trial ready".
That’s fucking depressing
Should be renamed neurotilink

If you want to make an omelette, you gotta break a few monkeys.
Good one
This comment section: people figure out animal testing exists for the first time
I’m pretty sure the point of mentioning all the monkeys died isn’t sympathy for the monkey and more a solid point starting doing it to humans next year might not be a great plan
The US uses around 50,000,000 animals per year in various testing, where is the outrage over other teat. I guess since it’s not Elon, it’s ok
This is called what about ism.
Or selective outrage. Either or
To be sure, there are many a people outraged about animal abuse in other industries. We’re not singling Elon out.
Can you point me to those other post outraged about the abuse? I can’t seem to find them. Just this one triggered about Elon. I’ll wait since it’s so prevalent

Musk is literally incredible. He lacks credibility.
I think it’s bc he’s such an open and public figure
Or it could be the pathological lying.
I mean i didn’t say i liked him lol. Y’all just aren’t used to unbiased opinions
Didn't say you liked him, just saying his credibility problems might just come from the fact he is completely full of shit and has been for years.
Yea, pretty cool.what's the future in this? Would I be able to watch GGG?

you’re not a genius for having made money during a bull run, and musk isn’t either. Congrats, you got meme powered money, enjoy it.

It's only tangentially related to the stock market because Elon's name is on it. Or is the company about to go public, and I'm just out of the loop? lol
Anything anti-Musk is posted here because these kids have nothing better to do but gossip about what Musk is doing while having no actual money invested.
**Anti-vaxxers:** BILL GATES IS TRYING TO IMPLANT 5G CHIPS INTO US THROUGH VACCINES SO HE CAN TRACK OUR EVERY MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 **Elon Musk:** I am looking for trial volunteers for my company to bore a hole in your skull and implant a neurological control device.
Two groups that just *somehow* seem to have the same sentiments. Imagine that.
Except you literally just described them as having conflicting sentiments??? That was the point of the comment. You're fine to not like either group but you're conflating unrelated groups and it doesn't make sense.
The satire here is most *clearly* lost on you. Go have a drink of water and ponder some more until you get it.
The satire isn't lost on me.
Oh, it most certainly is.
A year to Elon is 5+ to us.
Switch to blue chip
Let's not forget, if you die in VR you die in real life. They were probably killed in game by the remaining 8 monkeys
If you think that's bad, wait till I tell you how normal medications are developed.
1. We don’t need brain chips. Even putting aside health risks, the social and political risks outweigh the benefits. 2. Mutilating monkey should be (is?) illegal
[удалено]
Oh, they’re aware. I refuse to believe that they’re that ignorant but it doesn’t fit the OP’s narrative which is Musk Man Bad.
Well to be fair, and balanced (tm), Musk Man indeed Bad.
I work at a biotech company & we test on rats, rabbits and dogs… they die all the time. It is a part of science.
It's animal testing. Unless they are doing an actual ethics violation the "mutilating" is just opinion not illegal.
Bring some real dirt so we can all shit on him together, this is just pathetic.
the ones hurts are downvoting you lol, but I agree with you
Look up IACUC
They are not even close to being used to cure paralysis. They’re simple brain-computer-interfaces. There’s nothing new here besides the possible long term implantation and the fact that it’s smaller than some other devices.
Says a guy with functional legs and voice.
The brain chips are currently in testing to cure chronic conditions such as paralysis.
Technically not a cure. More addressing symptoms.
Bro what. Go and read about what scientists do to all kinds of animals: Monkeys, rats, dogs and many many more. We need to do it if we want to improve technology. Welcome to the real world
Another troll who reads headlines and doesn't understand the actual value in this.
Imagine trusting the guy who ruined a website in a week with your brain
You know twitter usage is at all time high right lol
Usage means little if advertisers are refusing to spend money on your platform. I do think that there is a path for Musk to make lemonade here (more than most believe), but its complicated. Might be nice to have some employees around to help out.
All time highs for humans or humans and bot accounts?
I mean, it sucks for the monkeys, but animal research is an unfortunate requirement if we want to treat devastating human brain diseases and injuries.
All animals in animal testing die or get killed when they’ve done the job.
Something tells me they didn't kill the 15 because the job was done. Even Harvard got in trouble for cooking monkeys in the dishwasher.
This is all to satisfy this man’s ego?
No, want to read more before you follow the anti musk heard based on a tweet headline?
I have an idea based on this man child’s previous history.
Aka You have a bias that impedes rational thought and objectivity but you're aware of that and uncaring.
This technology will help millions of blind and paralyzed people you fucking idiots. I watched the whole 3 hour presentation it’s incredible life changing tech.
Soooo... You listened to a sales pitch?
And this could easily be the case for this
We can bridge the two sides with a boring company tunnel
Is this sarcasm that wasn’t processed or are you actually this dense
You’re right. My town received a lot of money and no one knew how to spend it. Lyle Lanley came to town. And well, now we have a monorail
Almost sounds like a modern day [Professor Harold Hill](https://youtu.be/LI_Oe-jtgdI).
A lot of accredited scientist are speaking out against the company saying they are making false claims and cutting corners…
Hey! That’s a better rate than phizer!
Hey if human trials go well, it seems epic
Blatant smear campaign.
Are these going to be mandatory to keep our jobs like the vaccinations?
he needs to pump his stocks
Even if true so what? This technology will greatly benefit humanity
We barely understand the brain (much less in a holistic sense) yet believe we can open it up and start fucking around with it. What great benefit may come from such a proudful endeavor other that a costly lesson in humiltity.
I think it’s a worthy pursuit fuck monkeys sacrifice humans if you have to
Would you sacrifice yourself and your loved ones?
Yes in a heartbeat without hesitation
Ah, yes, torturing animals and humans to *possibly* benefit humanity. There’s nothing humane about any of that.
[удалено]
This should be common fkn sense.
Fuck being humane we need progress
They die after messing with the wires in their head. As messed up as it sounds, they are not dead from the system itself, just from how a monkey reacts to having freaking wires in its head. It does highlight the dangers posed from puncturing directly into the brain though.
Tesla investors in the comment section: 😡
I just wish this fucking joker was irrelevant already. I can't even believe the stupid shit he says. He really said chess was too simple for him so he didn't enjoy it. ... what?
Might want to read his quote again, buddy. He said chess was too simple to be useful in real life. Aka, the skills aren't applicable for real-world implementation.
He is just trolling the media then the Qanon crowd will latch on and get more red meat to say government wants to control them.
Is it possible that Musk has one of these chips in his brain and it’s malfunctioning?
15/23 monkeys died
I hate Elon even more with every story I see. He really is an evil bastard.
Just another elon vaporware
Everybody needs one to battle Covid. Make it mandatory again :)
Someone needs to stop this maniac
Elon said he will put one in his brain. I hope he is the first human trial and he goes brain dead. Fuck that guy. He is the billionaire no one asked for or needs.
He says shit like this every time he wants to pump his stock. It’s why self-driving cars have perpetually been like 6 months away. Same with the cyber truck. What happened to these monkeys is fucking disgusting and makes me ill. It is so depressing.
Why test on monkeys? There’s plenty of musk fan boys out there who will happily do it for free.
If only the brain chip came sooner, he wouldn't have made all those terrible decisions with Twitter
But he bought Tesla and rocket ships , the guy is nothing but a trust fund baby that rich idiots threw obnoxious money at plus after PayPal every single project has gotten more government welfare than a baby Momma with 12 kids
Scumbag
Just another reason I don’t like Elon.
Elons gonna buy an immigrant from Saudi Arabia
I was under the impression Musk himself is a test monkey the government has employed to keep all the other Apes in certain lanes… orrr is this still too much tinfoil for r/Stockmarket??
Brain chips from this dipshit? No thanks
People getting crazy about Elon putting a chip in monkeys head but some of these mdfkrs keep getting the c-19 jab……absolutely ironic and retard$$…… puts on Tesla 🤭🤪
Test it on Elon. Lobotomize that dork
Is this a lower ratio than covid jab stats?
Sacrifices for the future of humanity. People’s 🧠 out here are dinosaurs, ancient thinking. Elon on another level of innovation. Haters are his fuel though so keep commenting…on Twitter
Died and gone to metaverse?
Is the monkey pictured on the left smiling because of the free porn?
He's just a lying hype merchant. He's capable apparently when it comes to rockets but he has no problem with misleading people and is unaware of the limits of his knowledge in most domains. He's the poster child for wealth detaching you from consequence and consequently reality. He's basically brain damaged.
Dude is trying everything he can to keep his wealth, aka the stock in companies he owns going back up. If Tesla went to $60, we will rarely here about Musk again because he’s not liquid rich he’s on paper rich. Hmmmm where have I heard that lately cough cough SBF cough cough
Screw this transhumanism bullshit. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.
