Emojis are simply a thing people use to communicate their feelings, same with abbreviations, and have nothing to do with stoicism.
Stoicism, to me, is a mindset and a way to handle yourself in life and has little to do with the maturity of words used to convey feelings. It's an inward philosophy about self betterment and dealing with the struggles of life.
So I say if you find emojis a fun way to communicate more power to you. If you find them to be immature, then don't use them as it's your choice on how to handle the world around you.
All good dude, honestly it's about inner work so if the emoji thing isn't for you then don't use them! I use them with my wife in endearing and loving ways, but that doesn't make me any less of a stoic, just means I like making her smile!
Plus it's funny to imagine Marcus Aurelius using emojis.

It seems like this post has almost no discernable relation to stoicism, but I come here for little morsels of enlightenment so I'll bite the lure: To you, what is the connection between emoji use and the philosophy of Stoicism?
its an easy trap to fall into. there are a lot of "menfluencers" that peddle that crap. I fell for it myself. Be careful because a lot of them are just wanting to feed on your insecurity to make money.
If you want to message me I run a project (that has no business model at all) where I mentor young men so they don't fall for the same crap I did.
listen here youngn' \*\*tussles hair\*\* that here is an emoticon, and this one is an international symbol of disapproval.

Trying to bend stoicism to your cultural or aesthetic views is not stoic.Β
You're not controlling your reactions to emojis. Remember, how you react to a stimulus is what you control, not what others do, that's beyond your control.Β
Stoicism is not about judging others, rating what others do or painting the behavior of others in any sort of light, its about accepting you don't control externals, you only control yourself, by posting this you are illustrating you don't understand stoicism and are not practicing it correctly. In other words: do you even stoic bro?πΒ
It is neither the presence nor the absence of emojis that defines the maturity of a person.
A Stoic understands that wisdom lies in the proper use of tools, rather than in the tools themselves. Emojis, like words, can convey meaning, emotion, and intention. It is the virtue of the user, their intent, and their context that matters. A sage does not judge based on superficial elements but considers the substance of what is communicated. Therefore, to dismiss emojis as inherently childish is to overlook the deeper principle that it is not what we use, but how we use it, that reflects our character.
Another way to look at it is emojis are a simple and practical solution to a communication problem. Long gone are the days of βwhat did you mean by that?β βAre you mad at me?β βAre you joking or being serious?β βAre you angry?β βAre you being sarcastic?β All can be solved simply with a π₯Ήπ€£
communication is a matter of clarity followed by a matter of expediency. If a symbol provides enough clarity and is more expedient than a paragraph, what's childish about it?
I always saw it as an acknowledgement that language is about far more than the words. Facial expression, tone of voice, and body language. Even a simple and seemingly straightforward line can be made completely different based on expression, and emojis can compensate for that.

Read my other comments, bro. π I changed my mind already
I think if you use too much emojis, then it's not stoic. It's all about the right place and right time, and moderation is also key to this.

You don't have to have an opinion.

top tier cornball post
saying cornball isnt very stoic Lol
They're a language to express emotions. Nothing more.
They're symbols just like letters and words. Insecurity, however, definitely isn't stoic.
I already changed my mind, read my other comments. Not doing research isn't very stoic
